PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Cruise control allows you to control yourspeed using the switches on the steeringwheel. You can use cruise control whenyou exceed 20 mph or 30 km/h.
Note:The system cancels if your vehiclespeed drops below 10 mph / 16km/h underthe set speed when driving uphill.
Changing the Set Speed
Press and release SET + or SET -. Whenyou select km/h as the displaymeasurement in the information displaythe set speed changes in 1km/hincrements. When you select mph as thedisplay measurement in the informationdisplay the set speed changes in 1 mphincrements.
USING CRUISE CONTROL
WARNINGS
Do not use cruise control on windingroads, in heavy traffic or when theroad surface is slippery. This couldresult in loss of vehicle control, seriousinjury or death.
When you are going downhill, yourvehicle speed could increase abovethe set speed. The system does notapply the brakes.
To help the system to maintain the setspeed when going downhill, downshift toa lower gear.
Note:The system cancels if your vehiclespeed drops below 10 mph (16 km/h) underthe set speed when driving uphill.
The cruise controls are on the steeringwheel.
Switching Cruise Control On
Press and release the cruise control button.
The indicator appears in theinformation display.
Setting the Cruise Speed
1.Drive to desired speed.
2.Press and release SET+ or SET-.
3.Take your foot off the acceleratorpedal.
4.The indicator changes color in theinformation display.
Changing the Set Speed
•Press and release SET+ or SET-. Whenyou select km/h as the displaymeasurement in the informationdisplay the set speed changes inapproximately 1 km/h increments.When you select mph as the displaymeasurement in the informationdisplay the set speed changes inapproximately 1 mph increments.
•Press the accelerator or brake pedaluntil you reach the desired speed. Pressand release SET+ or SET-.
•Press and hold SET+ or SET-. Releasethe control when you reach the desiredspeed.
Note: If you accelerate by pressing theaccelerator pedal, the set speed will notchange. When you release the acceleratorpedal, your vehicle returns to the speed thatyou previously set.
Canceling the Set Speed
Press and release CAN or tap the brakepedal. The set speed does not erase.
Resuming the Set Speed
Press and release RES.

BLIND SPOT INFORMATION
SYSTEM (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
Do not use the blind spot informationsystem as a replacement for usingthe interior and exterior mirrors orlooking over your shoulder before changinglanes. The blind spot information systemis not a replacement for careful driving.
The system may not operateproperly during severe weatherconditions, for example snow, ice,heavy rain and spray. Always drive withdue care and attention. Failure to take caremay result in a crash.
The system is designed to detect vehiclesthat may have entered the blind spot zone(A). The detection area is on both sides ofyour vehicle, extending rearward from theexterior mirrors to approximately 13 ft(4 m) beyond the rear bumper.
Note:The system does not prevent contactwith other vehicles. It is not designed todetect parked vehicles, pedestrians, animalsor other infrastructures.
Using the Blind Spot InformationSystem
Vehicles with Automatic Transmission
The system turns on when all of thefollowing occur:
•You start your vehicle.
•You shift into drive (D).
•The vehicle speed is greater than6 mph (10 km/h).
Note:The system does not operate in park(P) or reverse (R).
Vehicles with Manual Transmission
The system turns on when all of thefollowing occur:
•You start your vehicle.
•The vehicle speed is greater than6 mph (10 km/h).
Note:The system does not operate inreverse (R).
System Lights and Messages
When the system detects a vehicle, analert indicator illuminates in the exteriormirror on the side the approaching vehicleis coming from. If you turn the directionindicator on for that side of your vehicle,the alert indicator flashes.

Note:The system may not alert you if avehicle quickly passes through the detectionzone.
Blocked Sensors
The sensors are behind the rear bumperon both sides of your vehicle.
Note:Keep the sensors free from snow, iceand large accumulations of dirt.
Note:Do not cover the sensors with bumperstickers, repair compound or other objects.
Note:Blocked sensors could affect systemperformance.
If the sensors are blocked, a message mayappear in the information display. SeeInformation Messages (page 88). Thealert indicators remain illuminated but thesystem does not alert you.
System Errors
If the system detects a fault, a warninglamp illuminates and a message displays.See Information Messages (page 88).
Switching the System Off and On
You can switch the system off using theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 85). When you switchthe system off, a warning lamp illuminatesand a message displays. When you switchthe system on or off, the alert indicatorsflash twice.
Note:The system remembers the lastsetting when you start your vehicle.
Note:The system may not correctly operatewhen towing a trailer. For vehicles with atrailer tow module and tow bar approvedby us, the system turns off when you attacha trailer. For vehicles with an aftermarkettrailer tow module or tow bar, werecommend that you switch the system offwhen you attach a trailer.

CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT (If
Equipped)
WARNINGS
Do not use the cross traffic alertsystem as a replacement for usingthe interior and exterior mirrors orlooking over your shoulder before reversingout of a parking space. The cross trafficalert system is not a replacement forcareful driving.
The system may not operateproperly during severe weatherconditions, for example snow, ice,heavy rain and spray. Always drive withdue care and attention. Failure to take caremay result in a crash.
The system is designed to alert you ofvehicles approaching from the sides whenyou shift into reverse (R).
Using the Cross Traffic AlertSystem
The system is designed to detect vehiclesthat approach with a speed up to 37 mph(60 km/h). Coverage decreases when thesensors are partially, mostly or fullyobstructed. Slowly reversing helps increasethe coverage area and effectiveness.

STEERING
Electric Power Steering
WARNINGS
The electric power steering systemhas diagnostic checks thatcontinuously monitor the system. Ifa fault is detected, a message displays inthe information display. Stop your vehicleas soon as it is safe to do so. Switch theignition off. After at least 10 seconds,switch the ignition on and watch theinformation display for a steering systemwarning message. If a steering systemwarning message returns, have the systemchecked as soon as possible.
If the system detects an error, youmay not feel a difference in thesteering, however a serious conditionmay exist. Have your vehicle checked assoon as possible, failure to do so mayresult in loss of steering control.
Note:Your vehicle is equipped with anelectric power-assisted steering system.There is no fluid reservoir to check or fill.
The electric power steering systemoperates by an electric motor, whichreduces the effort on the driver's steeringwheel.
The system operates progressively andduring maneuvers, the system leaves theeffort lighter. As the vehicle speedincreases, it reduces its action to improvethe control of the vehicle.
If your vehicle loses electrical power whileyou are driving (or if the ignition is turnedoff), you can steer the vehicle manually,but it takes more effort. Extremecontinuous steering may increase the effortit takes for you to steer. This occurs toprevent internal overheating andpermanent damage to your steeringsystem. If this should occur, you will notlose the ability to steer the vehiclemanually nor will it cause permanentdamage. Typical steering and drivingmaneuvers will allow the system to cooland steering assist will return to normal.
Steering Tips
Avoid sudden movements with the steeringwheel. The force required to change thevehicle direction is lower, compared to avehicle with mechanical steering.
If the steering wanders or pulls, check for:
•An improperly inflated tire
•Uneven tire wear
•Loose or worn suspension components
•Loose or worn steering components
•Improper vehicle alignment
A high crown in the road or high crosswindsmay also make the steering seem towander or pull.

The adjustable load floor can be set tothree different positions. When theAdjustable Load Floor is in the highestpostition and the rear seat backrests arefolded forward, the Adjustable Load Floorand the folded seats form a continous flatsurface.

Use the luggage cover to cover items in theluggage area of your vehicle.

Insert the ends of the luggage cover intothe mounting features located behind therear seat on the rear trim panels to installthe cover.
To operate the cover:
1.Pull out the cover and secure it in theretaining points.
2.Release it from the retaining points andlet it roll back into the case.
ROOF RACKS AND LOAD
CARRIERS
WARNING
When loading the roof racks, werecommend you evenly distribute theload, as well as maintain a lowcenter of gravity. Loaded vehicles, withhigher centers of gravity, may handledifferently than unloaded vehicles. Takeextra precautions, such as slower speedsand increased stopping distance, whendriving a heavily loaded vehicle.

Note: Loads should never be placeddirectly on the roof panel.
The roof panel is not designed to directlycarry a load.
For proper function of the roof rack system,loads must be placed directly on crossbarsaffixed to the roof rack side rails. Yourvehicle may be equipped withfactory-installed crossbars. Ford GenuineAccessory crossbars, designed specificallyfor your vehicle, are also recommended foruse with your roof rack system.
Make sure that the load is securelyfastened. Check the tightness of the loadbefore driving and at each fuel stop.
Adjusting the Crossbar (If Equipped)
Note:Wind noise can be minimized byeither removing or repositioning the crossbarwhen not is use. Position the front crossbarin the intermediate position to minimizewind noise. The crossbar can be adjustedor removed using the steps below.

Payload
Payload is the combined weightof cargo and passengers that yourvehicle is carrying. The maximumpayload for your vehicle appearson the Tire and Loading label. Thelabel is either on the B-pillar or theedge of the driver door. Vehiclesexported outside the US andCanada may not have a tire andloading label. Look for “Thecombined weight of occupantsand cargo should never exceedXXX kg OR XXX lb” for maximumpayload. The payload listed on theTire and Loading Information labelis the maximum payload for yourvehicle as built by the assemblyplant. If you install any additionalequipment on your vehicle, youmust determine the new payload.Subtract the weight of theequipment from the payload listedon the Tire and Loading label.When towing, trailer tongueweight or king pin weight is alsopart of payload.
WARNING
The appropriate loadingcapacity of your vehicle canbe limited either by volumecapacity (how much space isavailable) or by payload capacity(how much weight the vehicleshould carry). Once you havereached the maximum payload ofyour vehicle, do not add morecargo, even if there is spaceavailable. Overloading orimproperly loading your vehiclecan contribute to loss of vehiclecontrol and vehicle rollover.
GAWR (Gross Axle WeightRating)
GAWR is the maximum allowableweight that a single axle (front orrear) can carry. These numbersare on the Safety ComplianceCertification label. The label islocated on the door hinge pillar,door-latch post, or the door edgethat meets the door-latch post,next to the driver seating position.

GVWR (Gross Vehicle WeightRating)
GVWR is the maximum allowableweight of the fully loaded vehicle.This includes all options,equipment, passengers and cargo.It appears on the SafetyCompliance Certification label.The label is located on the doorhinge pillar, door-latch post, or thedoor edge that meets thedoor-latch post, next to the driverseating position.
The gross vehicle weight mustnever exceed the Gross VehicleWeight Rating.

GCWR (Gross CombinedWeight Rating)
GCWR is the maximum allowableweight of the vehicle and theloaded trailer, including all cargoand passengers, that the vehiclecan handle without riskingdamage. The gross combined weight mustnever exceed the Gross CombinedWeight Rating.

WARNINGS
Do not exceed the GVWR orthe GAWR specified on thecertification label.
Do not use replacement tireswith lower load carryingcapacities than the original tiresbecause they may lower yourvehicle's GVWR and GAWRlimitations. Replacement tireswith a higher limit than the originaltires do not increase the GVWRand GAWR limitations.
Exceeding any vehicle weightrating can adversely affectthe performance and handling ofyour vehicle, cause vehicledamage and can result in the lossof control of your vehicle, seriouspersonal injury or death.
Steps for determining thecorrect load limit:
1.Locate the statement "Thecombined weight of occupantsand cargo should never exceedXXX kg or XXX lb." on yourvehicle’s placard.
2.Determine the combinedweight of the driver andpassengers that will be ridingin your vehicle.
3.Subtract the combined weightof the driver and passengersfrom XXX kg or XXX lb.
4.The resulting figure equals theavailable amount of cargo andluggage load capacity. Forexample, if the “XXX” amountequals 1,400 lb. and there willbe five 150 lb. passengers inyour vehicle, the amount ofavailable cargo and luggageload capacity is 650 lb.(1400-750 (5 x 150) = 650 lb.)
5.Determine the combinedweight of luggage and cargobeing loaded on the vehicle.That weight may not safelyexceed the available cargo andluggage load capacitycalculated in Step 4.
6.If your vehicle will be towing atrailer, load from your trailerwill be transferred to yourvehicle. Consult this manual todetermine how this reduces theavailable cargo and luggage
load capacity of your vehicle.
