starting your vehicle. Read all the starting
instructions carefully, so you'll be aware of these
factors when you start your vehicle.
[TO00600( M)01/96]
When starting a fuel-injected engine,the most
important thing to remember is to avoid
pressing down on the accelerator before or
during starting.SeeStarting Your Enginein this
chapter for details about when to use the
accelerator while you start your vehicle.

TAPPET NOISE
[TO08400( M)01/96]
It is normal for the oil to drain down from the
hydraulic tappets in your engine during
extended shutdown periods (overnight). As a
result, these tappets may clatter for a few
seconds after the engine starts until oil pressure
builds up. This momentary start-up noise is
normal and is not harmful to engine operation.
