HAZARD WARNING FLASHERS
Note:The hazard warning flashers willoperate when the ignition is in any positionor if the key is not in the ignition. If usedwhen the engine is not running, the batterywill lose charge. As a result, there may beinsufficient power to restart your engine.
In some models, the hazardflasher control is located on theinstrument panel.
In other models, this feature is located onthe steering column, just behind thesteering wheel.
Use your hazard warning flashers whenyour vehicle is creating a safety hazard forother motorists.
•Press the flasher control and all frontand rear direction indicators flash.
•Press the flasher control again to turnthem off.
FUEL SHUTOFF
WARNING
Failure to inspect and, if necessary,repair fuel leaks after a collision mayincrease the risk of fire and seriousinjury. Ford Motor Company recommendsthat the fuel system be inspected by anauthorized dealer after any collision.
In the event of a moderate to severecollision, this vehicle is equipped with afuel pump shut-off feature that stops theflow of fuel to the engine. Not every impactwill cause a shut-off.
Should your vehicle shut off after acollision, you may restart your vehicle bydoing the following:
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Turn the ignition to crank.
3. Turn the ignition off.
4.Turn the ignition on again to re-enablethe fuel pump.
JUMP-STARTING THE VEHICLE
WARNINGS
The gases around the battery canexplode if exposed to flames, sparks,or lit cigarettes. An explosion couldresult in injury or vehicle damage.
Batteries contain sulfuric acid whichcan burn skin, eyes and clothing, ifcontacted.
Use only an adequate-sized cablewith insulated clamps.
Preparing Your Vehicle
Note:Do not attempt to push-start yourautomatic transmission vehicle. Automatictransmissions do not have push-startcapability. Attempting to push-start avehicle with an automatic transmission maycause transmission damage.
Note:Use only a 12-volt supply to start yourvehicle.
Note:Do not disconnect the battery of thedisabled vehicle as this could damage thevehicle's electrical system.

control fan, heated steering wheel, audioand navigation system. A message may beshown in the information displays to alertthe driver that battery protection actionsare active. These messages are only fornotification that an action is taking place,and not intended to indicate an electricalproblem or that the battery requiresreplacement.
Electrical accessory installation
To ensure proper operation of the BMS,any electrical devices that are added tothe vehicle should not have their groundconnection made directly at the negativebattery post. A connection at the negativebattery post can cause inaccuratemeasurements of the battery conditionand potential incorrect system operation.
Note:Electrical or electronic accessoriesadded to the vehicle by the dealer or theowner may adversely affect batteryperformance and durability, and may alsoaffect the performance of other electricalsystems in the vehicle.
When a battery replacement is required,the battery should only be replaced witha Ford recommended replacement batterywhich matches the electrical requirementsof the vehicle. After battery replacement,or in some cases after charging the batterywith the external charger, the BMS requireseight hours of vehicle sleep time (key offwith doors closed) to relearn the newbattery state of charge. Prior to relearningthe state of charge, the BMS may disableelectrical features (to protect the battery)earlier than normal.
CHECKING THE WIPER
BLADES
Run the tip of your fingers over the edge ofthe blade to check for roughness.
Clean the wiper blades with washer fluidor water applied with a soft sponge orcloth.
CHANGING THE WIPER
BLADES
You can manually move the wiper armswhen the ignition is off. This allows for easeof blade replacement and cleaning underthe blades.
1. Pull the wiper blade and arm awayfrom the glass.

2. Release the wiper blade lock (A) andseparate the wiper blade from thewiper arm.
3. Install in the reverse order.
Note:Make sure that the wiper blade locksinto place. Lower the wiper arm and bladeback on the windshield. The wiper arms willautomatically return to their normal positionwhen you turn the ignition on.
•Replace wiper blades at least once peryear for optimum performance.
•You can improve poor wiper quality bycleaning the wiper blades and thewindshield.
ADJUSTING THE HEADLAMPS
Vertical Aim Adjustment
The headlamps on your vehicle areproperly aimed at the assembly plant. Ifyour vehicle has been in an accident, thealignment of your headlamps should bechecked by your authorized dealer.

Vertical Aim Adjustment Procedure
1. Park the vehicle directly in front of awall or screen on a level surface,approximately 25 feet (7.6 meters)away.
2. Measure the height of the headlampbulb center from the ground and markan 8 foot (2.4 meter) horizontalreference line on the vertical wall orscreen at this height.
Note:To see a clearer light pattern foradjusting, you may want to block the lightfrom one headlamp while adjusting theother.
3. Turn on the low beam headlamps toilluminate the wall or screen and openthe hood.

•Never wash or rinse any ignition coil,spark plug wire or spark plug well, orthe area in and around these locations.
•Cover the battery, power distributionbox, and air filter assembly to preventwater damage when cleaning theengine.
CLEANING THE EXHAUST
WARNINGS
Failure to maintain the functionalholes, in the tailpipe section of theexhaust, clean and free of debris orforeign material may result in the holesbecoming blocked or plugged. Do notmodify or remove the tail-pipe section.Blocked or plugged holes orremoval/modification of the system couldresult in elevated exhaust gastemperatures which may result invehicle/property damage or personalinjury.
The normal operating temperatureof the exhaust system is very high.Never work around or attempt torepair any part of the exhaust system untilit has cooled. Use special care whenworking around the diesel oxidationcatalytic converter and/or the dieselparticulate filter (DPF). The dieseloxidation catalytic converter and/or theDPF heats up to a high temperature afteronly a short period of engine operation andcan stay hot even after the engine is turnedoff. Failure to follow these instructions mayresult in personal injury.
The visible holes in the exhaust tip and theholes under the shield just inboard of theright rear tire(s) are functional. The holesneed to be kept clear of mud/debris orforeign material to maintain properfunction of the exhaust system. Clean andremove debris or foreign material if presentas needed. Spraying with a hose duringregular washing of vehicle should helpkeep holes clean and clear of debris orforeign material.
CLEANING THE WINDOWS AND
WIPER BLADES
Car wash chemicals and environmentalfallout can result in windshield and wiperblade contamination. Dirty windshield andwipers will result in poor windshield wiperoperation. Keep the windshield and wiperblades clean to maintain windshield wiperperformance.
To clean the windshield and wiper blades:
•Clean the windshield with anon-abrasive glass cleaner.
•For windshields contaminated withtree sap, chemicals, wax or bugs, cleanthe entire windshield using steel wool(no greater than 0000 grade) in acircular motion and rinse with water.
•Clean the wiper blades with isopropylrubbing alcohol or windshield washerfluid.

•To reduce the chances of interferencefrom another vehicle, perform thesystem reset procedure at least threefeet (one meter) away from anotherFord Motor Company vehicleundergoing the system reset procedureat the same time.
•Do not wait more than two minutesbetween resetting each tire sensor orthe system will time-out and the entireprocedure will have to be repeated onall four wheels.
•A double horn will sound indicating theneed to repeat the procedure.
Performing the System Reset Procedure
Read the entire procedure beforeattempting.
1. Drive the vehicle above 20 mph (32km/h) for at least two minutes, thenpark in a safe location where you caneasily get to all four tires and haveaccess to an air pump.
2.Place the ignition in the off position andkeep the key in the ignition.
3. Cycle the ignition to the on positionwith the engine off.
4. Turn the hazard flashers on then offthree times. You must accomplish thiswithin 10 seconds. If the reset modehas been entered successfully, the hornwill sound once, the system indicatorwill flash and a message is shown inthe information display. If this does notoccur, please try again starting at Step2. If after repeated attempts to enterthe reset mode, the horn does notsound, the system indicator does notflash and no message is shown in theinformation display, seek service fromyour authorized dealer.
5. Train the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensors in the tires using thefollowing system reset sequencestarting with the left front tire in thefollowing clockwise order: Left front(driver's side front tire), Right front(passenger's side front tire), Right rear(passenger's side rear tire), Left rear(driver's side rear tire)
6. Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the left front tire. Decrease theair pressure until the horn sounds.Note: The single horn chirp confirmsthat the sensor identification code hasbeen learned by the module for thisposition. If a double horn is heard, thereset procedure was unsuccessful, andyou must repeat it.
7. Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the right front tire. Decreasethe air pressure until the horn sounds.
8. Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the right rear tire. Decrease theair pressure until the horn sounds.
9. Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the left rear tire. Decrease theair pressure until the horn sounds.Training is complete after the hornsounds for the last tire trained (driver'sside rear tire), the system indicatorstops flashing, and a message is shownin the information display.
10.Turn the ignition off. If two short hornbeeps are heard, the reset procedurewas unsuccessful and you mustrepeat it. If after repeating theprocedure and two short beeps areheard when the ignition is turned tooff, seek assistance from yourauthorized dealer.

Pairing a Phone for the First Time
Note:SYNC can support downloading upto approximately 1000 entries perBluetooth-enabled cellular phone.
Note:Make sure to switch on the ignitionand the radio. Put the transmission inposition P.
Note:To scroll through the menus, pressthe up and down arrows on your audiosystem.
Wirelessly pairing your phone with SYNCallows you to make and receive hands-freecalls.
1. Press the phone button. When thedisplay indicates there is no phonepaired, press OK.
2. When Find SYNC appears in thedisplay, press OK.
3. Put your phone into Bluetoothdiscovery mode. See your device'smanual if necessary.
4. When prompted on your phone'sdisplay, enter the six-digit PIN providedby SYNC in the radio display. Thedisplay indicates when the pairing issuccessful.
Depending on your phone's capability andyour market, the system may prompt youwith questions, such as setting the currentphone as the primary phone (the phoneSYNC automatically tries to connect withfirst upon vehicle start-up) anddownloading your phonebook.
Pairing Subsequent Phones
