DATA RECORDING
Service Data Recording
Service data recorders in your vehicle arecapable of collecting and storingdiagnostic information about your vehicle.This potentially includes information aboutthe performance or status of varioussystems and modules in the vehicle, suchas engine, throttle, steering or brakesystems. In order to properly diagnose andservice your vehicle, Ford Motor Company(Ford of Canada in Canada), and serviceand repair facilities may access or shareamong them vehicle diagnosticinformation received through a directconnection to your vehicle whendiagnosing or servicing your vehicle.Additionally, Ford Motor Company (Fordof Canada, in Canada) may, wherepermitted by law, use vehicle diagnosticinformation for vehicle improvement orwith other information we may have aboutyou, (for example, your contactinformation), to offer you products orservices that may interest you. Data maybe provided to our service providers suchas part suppliers that may help diagnosemalfunctions, and who are similarlyobligated to protect data. We retain thisdata only as long as necessary to performthese functions or to comply with law. Wemay provide information where requiredin response to official requests to lawenforcement or other governmentauthorities or third parties acting withlawful authority or court order, and suchinformation may be used in legalproceedings. The Belt-Minder feature will not activate.You and the front seat passenger buckleyour seatbelts before you switch the igni-tion on or less than 1-2 minutes elapse afteryou switch the ignition on...
The Belt-Minder feature activates, theseatbelt warning light illuminates and awarning tone sounds for 6 seconds every25 seconds, repeating for about 5 minutesor until you and the front seat passengerbuckle your seatbelts.
You or the front seat passenger do notbuckle your seatbelts before your vehiclereaches at least 6 mph (9.7 km/h) and 1-2minutes elapse after you switch the ignitionon...

Deactivating and Activating theBelt-Minder Feature
WARNING
While the system allows you todeactivate it, this system is designedto improve your chances of beingsafely belted and surviving an accident.We recommend you leave the systemactivated for yourself and others who mayuse the vehicle.
Note:The driver and front passengerwarnings switch on and off independently.When you perform this procedure for oneseating position, do not buckle the otherposition as this will terminate the process.
Note:If you are using MyKey™, you cannotdisable the Belt-Minder. Also, if you havepreviously disabled the Belt-Minder, it willbe re-enabled during the use of MyKey™.See MyKey™ (page 55).
Read Steps 1 - 4 thoroughly beforeproceeding with the programmingprocedure.
Before following the procedure, make surethat:
•The parking brake is set.
•The transmission is in park (P)(automatic transmission) or neutral(N) (manual transmission).
•The ignition is off.
•The driver and front passengerseatbelts are unbuckled.
1.Switch the ignition on. Do not start thevehicle.
2.Wait until the seatbelt warning lightturns off (about one minute). AfterStep 2, wait an additional 5 secondsbefore proceeding with Step 3. Onceyou start Step 3, you must completethe procedure within 30 seconds.

1.Press the lock button to lock all thedoors.
2.Press the remote start button twice.The direction indicators flash twice.
The horn sounds if the system fails to start,unless quiet start is on. Quiet start runs theblower fan at a slower speed to reducenoise. You can switch it on or off using theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 92).
The power windows do not work duringremote start and the radio does not turnon automatically.
The parking lamps remain on and yourvehicle runs for 5, 10 or 15 minutes,depending on the setting.
Note:If you remote start your vehicle withan intelligent access transmitter, you mustpress the push button ignition switch on theinstrument panel once while applying thebrake pedal before driving your vehicle.
Extending the Engine Running Time
To extend the engine running time durationof your vehicle during remote start, repeatsteps 1 and 2 while the engine is running.If the duration is set to 10 minutes, theduration extends by another 10 minutes.For example, if your vehicle had beenrunning from the first remote start for 5minutes, your vehicle continues to run nowfor a total of 20 minutes. You can extendthe engine running time duration to amaximum of 30 minutes.
Wait at least five seconds before remotestarting after a vehicle shutdown.
Turning Your Vehicle Off After RemoteStarting
Press the button once. Theparking lamps turn off.
You may have to be closer to your vehiclethan when starting due to ground reflectionand the added noise of the running vehicle.
You can turn the remote start system onor off using the information display. SeeGeneral Information (page 92).
REPLACING A LOST KEY OR
REMOTE CONTROL
You can purchase replacement keys orremote controls from an authorized dealer.Authorized dealers can program remotecontrols for your vehicle. See PassiveAnti-Theft System (page 68).
To re-program the passive anti-theftsystem see an authorized dealer.

Note:If you disconnect the battery or itbecomes discharged, the illuminatedcomponents will switch to the maximumsetting.
Press repeatedly or press and hold untilyou reach the desired level.
HEADLAMP EXIT DELAY
After you switch the ignition off, you canswitch the headlamps on by pulling thedirection indicator lever toward you. Youwill hear a short tone. The headlamps willswitch off automatically after threeminutes with any door open or 30 secondsafter the last door has been closed. Youcan cancel this feature by pulling thedirection indicator toward you again orswitching the ignition on.
DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS
WARNING
The daytime running lamps systemdoes not activate the rear lamps andmay not provide adequate lightingduring low visibility driving conditions. Also,the autolamps switch position may notactivate the headlamps in all low visibilityconditions, such as daytime fog. Make surethe headlamps are switched to auto or on,as appropriate, during all low visibilityconditions. Failure to do so may result in acrash.
Type 1 - Conventional (Non-Configurable)
The daytime running lamps turn on when:
1.The ignition is switched to the onposition.
2.The transmission is not in park (P) forvehicles with automatic transmissionsor the parking brake is released forvehicles with manual transmissions.
3.The lighting control is in the off, parkinglamp or autolamps positions.
4.The headlamps are off.
Type 2 - Configurable
Switch the daytime running lamps on oroff using the information display controls.See Information Displays (page 92).
The daytime running lamps turn on when:
1.They are switched on in the informationdisplay. See Information Displays(page 92).
2.The ignition is switched to the onposition.
3.The transmission is not in park (P) forvehicles with automatic transmissionsor the parking brake is released forvehicles with manual transmissions.

It also momentarily illuminates when youswitch the ignition on to confirm the lampis functional. If it does not illuminate whenyou switch the ignition on, or begins toflash at any time, have the system checkedby an authorized dealer.
Auto-Start-Stop Indicator
It illuminates when the enginehas automatically stopped. Itflashes to inform you when theengine needs to restart. Theindicator is shown with astrikethrough if the system is notavailable.

Battery Charging ConditionWarning Lamp
It illuminates when you switchthe ignition on.
If it illuminates when the engineis running this indicates a malfunction.Have your vehicle checked as soon aspossible.
Blind Spot Information SystemIndicator (If Equipped)
It illuminates when you switchthe system off.
See Blind Spot InformationSystem (page 169).
Brake System Warning Lamp
WARNING
Driving your vehicle with the warninglamp on is dangerous. A significantdecrease in braking performancemay occur. It may take you longer to stopyour vehicle. Have your vehicle checked assoon as possible. Driving extendeddistances with the parking brake engagedcan cause brake failure and the risk ofpersonal injury.
It illuminates when you engagethe parking brake and theignition is on.
If it illuminates when your vehicle ismoving, make sure the parking brake isdisengaged. If the parking brake isdisengaged, this indicates low brake fluidlevel or a brake system fault. Have yourvehicle immediately checked.
It also momentarily illuminates when youswitch the ignition on to confirm the lampis functional. If it does not illuminate whenyou switch the ignition on, or begins toflash at any time, have the system checkedby an authorized dealer.
Cruise Control Indicator
It illuminates when you switchthe system on.

Direction Indicator
It illuminates when you switch adirection indicator or the hazardflashers on. Flashes duringoperation. An increase in the rate offlashing warns of a failed indicator bulb.

Parking Brake On Warning Chime
Sounds when you have left the parkingbrake on and drive your vehicle. If thewarning chime remains on after you havereleased the parking brake, have thesystem checked by an authorized dealerimmediately.
Low Fuel Minder
A low fuel reminder triggers at about 50miles (80 km). The low fuel warning lightwill light, a warning chime will sound anda pop up will be shown in the displayindicating the remaining distance to empty.You will also get a subsequent reminderat 20, 10 and 0 miles.
Fasten Safety Belt
Sounds as a reminder to fasten your safetybelt.

Once your vehicle starts, it remains runninguntil you press the push button ignitionswitch, even if your vehicle does not detecta valid passive key. If you open and closea door while your vehicle is running, thesystem searches for a valid passive key.
You cannot start your vehicle if you openthe driver door and the system does notdetect a valid passive key.
STARTING A GASOLINE
ENGINE
When you start the engine, the idle speedincreases. This helps to warm up theengine. If the engine idle speed does notslow down automatically, have yourvehicle checked by an authorized dealer.
Note:You can crank the engine for a totalof 60 seconds without the engine startingbefore the starting system temporarilydisables. The 60 seconds does not have tobe all at once. For example, if you crank theengine three times for 20 seconds eachtime, without the engine starting, youreached the 60-second time limit. Amessage appears in the information displayalerting you that you exceeded the crankingtime. You cannot attempt to start the enginefor at least 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, youare limited to a 15-second engine crankingtime. You need to wait 60 minutes beforeyou can crank the engine for 60 secondsagain.
Before starting your vehicle, check thefollowing:
•Make sure all occupants have fastenedtheir safety belts.
•Make sure the headlamps andelectrical accessories are off.
•Make sure the parking brake is on.
•Make sure the transmission is in park(P).
•Switch the ignition key to position II. Ifyour vehicle is equipped with a keylessignition, see the following instructions.
Vehicles with an Ignition Key
Note:Do not touch the accelerator pedal.
1.Fully press the brake pedal. If yourvehicle is equipped with a manualtransmission, fully press the clutchpedal.
2.Turn the key to position III to start theengine.
Note:The engine may continue crankingfor up to 15 seconds or until it starts.
Note:If you cannot start the engine on thefirst try, wait for a short period and try again.
Vehicles with Keyless Start
Note:Do not touch the accelerator pedal.
Note:You must have your intelligent accesskey in your vehicle in order to shift thetransmission out of park (P).
1.Fully depress the brake pedal.
2.Press the push button ignition switch.
The system does not function if:
•The passive key frequencies arejammed.
•The key battery has no charge.
If you are unable to start your vehicle, dothe following:
