Efficiency Leaves
Efficiency leaves indicate short term drivingefficiency measured over the last fewminutes. The more leaves and vines thatappear on the display, the better your fueleconomy. Leaves and vines willoccasionally appear and disappear toindicate a change in your driving efficiency.
Fuel History
From left to right this view includes aninstantaneous fuel economy gauge,historical fuel economy data and averagefuel economy. The historical datarepresents an average over time intervalsof either 1, 2 or 6 minutes, with the leftmostinterval being the most recent. Shown atthe bottom of the view is the total timeduration for the 5 intervals. You can selecttotal duration in the options menu.Intervals shown in grey color are from theprevious drive. The blue horizontal linerepresents the average fuel economy valueshown to the right.
Note:Hold OK to reset fuel history andaverage fuel economy.
Coach
This view provides a comparison of yourrecent acceleration, braking and cruisingbehavior, then recommends the mostefficient use of energy under presentconditions. The horizontal bars fill from leftto right with best behavior and appear bluewhen at least half full. When the bars areless than half full, the color is amber,suggesting that you need a change in yourdriving behavior to achieve better energyefficiency.
Note:Fuel Economy will be impacted byyour use of brakes, accelerator andaccessories, as well as environmentalconditions such as hills and weather.
Note:Fuel economy is not always ameasure of appropriate driving behavior. Forexample, when driving uphill andmaintaining an appropriate speed, yourinstant fuel economy may not be good(losing leaves) but the Coach may show ablue bar for Acceleration and Cruising.

Common Displays
Both Average fuel economy and aninstantaneous fuel economy gauge areincluded in Engage, Empower, MyView (ifselected) and Fuel Economy (shown inHybrid Mode) on the left-hand informationdisplay. They are also included in FuelHistory on the right-hand informationdisplay.
Average Fuel Economy
Average Fuel Economy is continuouslyaveraged since the last reset. You can resetyour average fuel economy by pressing andholding the OK button on thecorresponding steering wheel controls. ForEnergi vehicles both Hybrid and Plug-inPower mode operation will be included inthe calculation.
Note:Average fuel economy cannot bereset in MyView.
Instantaneous Fuel Economy
If your instantaneous fuel economy isgreater than the maximum valuedisplayed, a + sign will be shown next tothe maximum scale number. When yourvehicle is operating on battery power only,EV will display and the gauge fill will showin blue.
INFORMATION MESSAGES
Note: Depending on your vehicle optionsand instrument cluster type, not all of themessages will display or be available.Certain messages may be abbreviated orshortened depending upon which clustertype you have.
Press the OK button to acknowledge andremove some messages from theinformation display. Other messages willbe removed automatically after a shorttime.
Certain messages need to be confirmedbefore you can access the menus.

The memory control is on the driver door.
Saving a PreSet Position
1. Adjust the memory features to yourdesired position.
2. Press the SET button until you hear asingle tone.
3. Press the desired preset button untilyou hear a single tone.
You can save up to two preset memorypositions. You can save a memory presetat any time.
Recalling a PreSet Position
Press and release the preset buttonassociated with your desired drivingposition. The memory features move tothe position stored for that preset.
Note:You can only recall a preset memoryposition when you switch the ignition off, orwhen the transmission is in park (P) orneutral (N) if the ignition is on and thevehicle is not moving.
You can also recall a preset memoryposition by:
•Pressing the unlock button on yourintelligent access key fob if it is linkedto a preset position.
•Unlocking the intelligent driver doorhandle if a linked key fob is present.
Note:Using a linked key fob to recall yourmemory position when the ignition is offmoves the seat to the Easy Entry position.
Note:Pressing any active memory featurecontrol - power seat, mirror, or steeringcolumn (or any memory button) during amemory recall cancels the operation.
Linking a PreSet Position to yourRemote Control or IntelligentAccess Key Fob
Your vehicle can save the preset memorypositions for up to two remote controls orintelligent access (IA) keys.
After you have saved your desired memorypreset positions:
1. Press and hold the desired presetbutton for about three seconds untilyou hear a single tone.
2. Within three seconds, press the lockbutton on the remote control you arelinking.
To unlink a remote control, follow thesame procedure – except in step 2, pressthe unlock button on the remote control.
Note:If more than one linked remotecontrol or intelligent access key is in range,the memory function moves to the settingsof the first key to initiate a memory recall.
Easy Entry and Exit Feature
If you enable the easy entry and exitfeature, it automatically moves the driverseat position rearward up to 2 in (5 cm)when you switch the ignition off.
The driver seat returns to the previousposition when you switch the ignition on.
You can enable or disable this feature inthe information display. See GeneralInformation (page 97).

When the indicator light on the power pointis:
•On: The power point is working, theignition is on and a device is pluggedin.
•Off: The power point is off, the ignitionis off or no device is plugged in.
•Flashing: The power point is in faultmode.
The power outlet temporarily turns offpower when in fault mode if the deviceexceeds the 150 watt limit. Unplug yourdevice and switch the ignition off. Switchthe ignition back on, but do not plug yourdevice back in. Let the system cool off andswitch the ignition off to reset the faultmode. Switch the ignition back on andmake sure the indicator light remains on.
Do not use the power point for certainelectric devices, including:
•Cathode-ray, tube-type televisions.
•Motor loads, such as vacuum cleaners,electric saws and other electric powertools or compressor-drivenrefrigerators.
•Measuring devices, which processprecise data, such as medicalequipment or measuring equipment.
•Other appliances requiring anextremely stable power supply such asmicrocomputer-controlled electricblankets or touch-sensor lamps.

Auxiliary Power Points

Fast Restart
The fast restart feature allows you torestart your vehicle within 20 seconds ofswitching it off, even if it does not detecta valid passive key.
Within 20 seconds of switching the engineoff, press the brake pedal and press thepush button ignition switch. After 20seconds, you can no longer start yourvehicle if it does not detect a valid passivekey.
Once your vehicle starts, it remains runninguntil you press the push button ignitionswitch, even if your vehicle does not detecta valid passive key. If you open and closea door while your vehicle is running, thesystem searches for a valid passive key.After 20 seconds, you can no longer startyour vehicle if it does not detect a validpassive key.
Automatic Engine Shutdown
This feature automatically shuts downyour vehicle if it has been idling for anextended period. The ignition also turnsoff to save battery power. Before yourvehicle shuts down, a message appears inthe information display showing a timercounting down. If you do not intervenewithin 30 seconds, your vehicle shutsdown. Another message appears in theinformation display to inform you that yourvehicle has shut down to save fuel. Startyour vehicle as normal.
Automatic Engine Shutdown Override
Note: You cannot permanently switch offthe automatic shutdown. The systemdefaults to normal mode when you start thevehicle.
You can stop the shutdown, or reset thetimer, at any point before the 30-secondcountdown has expired by doing any of thefollowing:
•Interacting with your vehicle, forexample pressing the brake oraccelerator pedal.
•You can temporarily switch off theshutdown any time the ignition is onusing the information display. SeeInformation Displays (page 97).
•During the countdown beforeshutdown, you are prompted to pressOK or RESET (depending on your typeof information display) to temporarilyswitch the feature off (for the currentignition cycle only).
Stopping the Engine When YourVehicle is Stationary
Note:The ignition, all electrical circuits andall warning lamps and indicators will beturned off.
Note:If your vehicle is left running for 30minutes without any interaction, itautomatically shuts down.
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Shift into park (P).
3. Briefly press the push button ignitionswitch.
Stopping the Engine When YourVehicle is Moving
WARNING
Switching off the engine when thevehicle is still moving will result in aloss of brake and steering assistance.The steering will not lock, but higher effortwill be required. When the ignition isswitched off, some electrical circuits,including air bags, warning lamps andindicators may also be off. If the ignitionwas turned off accidentally, you can shiftinto neutral (N) and re-start the engine.

3. Press the EV button. This will changethe mode to EV Later and permitengine operation.
Your vehicle may automatically enterEngine Enabled mode if system conditionsrequire it. A engine enabled message willdisplay if this occurs. This is normalfunction, and your vehicle will return to EVNow when possible.
Your vehicle may enter Enable Enginemode if the climate control is in a defrostmode and the outside temperature is cold.A engine enabled message will display ifthis occurs. If defrost is not needed, selecta different climate control mode to permitEV Now.
When you enable EV Now, a blue EV icondisplays in the left-hand informationdisplay. If your vehicle is in the EngineEnabled mode, the EV icon will be yellow.
EV Now will automatically exit when thePlug in power has been depleted.
EV Later
This mode saves most of thehigh voltage battery plug inpower for future use (forexample, your initial drive is at high speedson open roads, but later your drive will beat low speeds in an urban area whereplug-in power usage is most efficient).Your vehicle will run the engine as neededand keep most of the high voltage batteryplug in power for later use in Auto Mode orEV Now mode.
When you enable EV Later, a white EVLater icon appears on the left-handinformation display.
The EV Later mode will automatically resetto EV Auto mode when you power yourvehicle off. You may press the EV buttontwice during the next drive to return to EVLater mode, if desired.
ECO Cruise
Note:ECO Cruise is available as a separatefeature on Energi vehicles only. On nonplug-in vehicles it is included in EcoSelect.
This feature saves vehicle energy byrelaxing acceleration compared tostandard cruise control. For example, yourvehicle may temporarily lose speed whengoing uphill. When set to on, ECO appearsin the information display when cruisecontrol is on.
You can switch it on or off in through theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 97).

Low Engine Use
The low engine use mode is equipped onEnergi models only. The Low Engine Usemode maintains proper engine lubricationat sufficient temperature, and will activateautomatically when you drive your vehiclewith limited engine operation. When yourvehicle is in low engine use mode, yourvehicle will automatically run the engineas necessary.
Note:If your vehicle is in low engine usemode when you start your vehicle, amessage will appear in the informationdisplay. See Information Messages (page106).
If you select the EV Now mode while thevehicle is in the low engine use mode, EVNow mode will be suspended for as longas you are in low engine use mode. The lowengine use mode will resume the next timeyou start your vehicle and willautomatically stop when no longer needed.
Note:Cold temperatures will affect theengine warm up time and the low engineuse mode may operate more frequently.

EcoSelect is a drive mode for non plug-invehicles designed to offer the best possiblefuel economy with tradeoffs in vehicleperformance and comfort.
To switch EcoSelect on, pressthe ECO button.
A graphic displays on your informationdisplay when EcoSelect is on.
Your vehicle will remember the lastselected mode whenever you start yourvehicle.
EcoSelect allows your vehicle to operatemore efficiently. You will notice:
•Less aggressive cooling.
•Softer acceleration.
•Increased deceleration when coasting.
•Changes in engine behavior.
•ECO cruise control activation.
HYBRID VEHICLE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
AnswerQuestion
The high voltage battery is electrically isol-ated from the rest of the vehicle when thekey is off. When you switch the key on, highvoltage contactors inside the battery areclosed to make the electricity available tothe motor and generator and enable thevehicle to drive. The clicks are the sound ofthese contactors as they close and openduring start up and shut down.
What are the series of clicks from the cargoarea when I first turn the key in the ignition?
The vehicle's computer will determine if anengine start is required at key-on. Silent keystart will start the engine if it is necessaryfor cabin heating, windshield defrost, or ifthe outside temperature is low.
Why does the engine sometimes start atkey-on?
There are several reasons the engine stayson for an extended amount of time whenyou first start it. One common reason is tomake sure that the emissions componentsare warm enough to minimize tailpipeemissions. As the climate gets cooler, thisengine-on time is extended.
Why does it take a long time before theengine shuts down?
