Note: When the switches areoperated often during a short periodof time, the system might becomeinoperable for a certain time toprevent damage due to overheating.

At normal operating temperature, theneedle remains within the centresection.
If the needle enters the red section,the engine is overheating. Switch offthe ignition and determine the sourceof the problem once the engine hascooled down.

On vehicles with a diesel engine, thetachometer goes to 5 000revolutions per minute.
Fuel gauge
The arrow adjacent to the fuel pumpsymbol indicates on which side of thevehicle the fuel filler cap is located.
Odometer and tripmeter

Tripmeter
The tripmeter can register thedistance of individual journeys. Toreset, depress the button E.
Odometer
The odometer registers the totaldistance of the vehicle. Theodometer reading will be displayedfor another 10 minutes after theignition has been switched off.

Indicates the outside temperature orserves as trip computer display,depending on equipment fitted. SeeTrip computer (page 78).
On vehicles with 5-speed automatictransmission it also shows the shiftingmode and the current selector leverposition or the selected gear. SeeAutomatic transmission (page 110).

If a warning or indicator lamp doesnot illuminate when the ignition isswitched on, it indicates amalfunction. Have the systemchecked by an expert.
ABS warning lamp
If the ABS warning lampilluminates when driving, itindicates a malfunction.Have this checked by an expert.Normal braking (without ABS) will bemaintained.
Airbag warning lamp
See Airbag warning lamp(page 31).
Brake system warning lamp
WARNING
If it illuminates after releasing theparking brake or when driving,have the braking system checked byan expert immediately.
Illuminates when the parkingbrake is applied.
Brake system and ABSwarning lamps
WARNING
Reduce vehicle speed gradually.Use the brake with great care.Do not step on the brake pedalabruptly.
If both warning lamps illuminate at thesame time, stop the vehicle as soonas it is safe to do so. Have thebraking system checked by anexpert before continuing yourjourney.
Direction indicator lamp
Flashes during operation. Asudden increase in the rateof flashing warns of a failedindicator bulb. If your vehicle hasbeen equipped with factory fittedtowing equipment, the control lampalso warns of failure of the indicatorbulbs on the trailer.
Doors open warning lamp
Illuminates if any door or theluggage compartment is notclosed properly.

The engine warning lampshould extinguish as soonas the engine starts. If itilluminates with the engine running, itindicates a malfunction. Have thischecked by an expert as soon aspossible. If it flashes, when driving,reduce the vehicle speedimmediately. If it continues to flash,avoid heavy acceleration ordeceleration. The engine will continueto operate but it will have limitedengine power. Have your vehiclechecked by an expert immediately.
Frost warning lamp
WARNING
Even if the temperature rises toabove 4ºC there is noguarantee that the road is free ofhazards caused by inclementweather.
For ambient temperaturesbetween 4°C and 1°C, theorange sign warns ofpossible ice on the roads. From 0°Cand below, the red sign warns of anincreased danger of icy roads.
Glow plug indicator lamp
If the glow plug indicatorlamp illuminates, wait untilthe it extinguishes beforestarting.
Headlamp indicator lamp
Illuminates when theheadlamps are on dippedbeam or when the side andtail lamps are on.
Ignition warning lamp
WARNING
If the charging system drive belton the diesel engines is loose,torn or broken, the servo assistancefor the braking system also no longeroperates.
If it illuminates whilst driving,switch off all unnecessaryelectrical equipment anddrive immediately to the nearestexpert.
Low fuel level warning lamp
When the warning lampilluminates, refuel as soon aspossible.
Low washer fluid warninglamp
When the warning lampilluminates, top up as soonas possible.
Main beam indicator lamp
Illuminates when theheadlamps are on mainbeam or when theheadlamp flasher is used.

If the lamp stays on afterstarting or illuminates duringa journey, stop immediately,switch off the engine and check theengine oil level. See Engine oil check(page 149). Top up straight away ifthe level is low.
Oil change indicator lamp
Vehicles with a dieselparticulate filter (DPF)
The oil change indicatorlamp will come on andremain on if the engine oilneeds to be changed outside of theregular service schedule. Have theengine oil changed as soon aspossible.
Your dealer will switch the oil changeindicator lamp off for you aftercompleting the oil change.
Seat belt reminder
See Seat belt reminder(page 29).
Stability control (ESP)indicator lamp
Note: If the it does not illuminatewhen the ignition is switched on or ifit stays illuminated whilst driving, itindicates a malfunction (unless thesystem has been switched offmanually when it will also illuminate).During a malfunction the system willbe switched off. Have the systemchecked by an expert.
Illuminates when stabilitycontrol is switched off andflashes when stability control(ESP) is activated.
AUDIBLE WARNINGS
AND INDICATORS
Frost
A warning tone will sound if theambient temperature falls below 4°C.
Lights on
A warning tone will sound if thedriver's door is opened when thelights are on.
Parking aid
A short tone will sound whenselecting reverse gear if the systemis operational. A continuous tone ora deep tone at three second intervalswill sound when selecting reversegear is the system has a malfunction.

•Instantaneous fuel consumption(depending on country)

Info button
WARNING
For road safety reasons, set andreset the functions only whilstthe vehicle is stationary.
Press to change between functions.You will hear an audible signal everytime you press the button.
Reset button
Press the button briefly to togglebetween metric and imperial units.
The functions average fuelconsumption and average speed canbe individually reset by holding thereset button for two seconds whilethe desired function is selected.

Heated windows
Use for quick defrosting or demistingof the windscreen or rear window. Itshould be switched on only ifnecessary.
Vehicles with a diesel engine
The heated windscreen and heatedrear window will be switched on andthen off automatically at low ambienttemperatures and low enginetemperatures. Press the switches toswitch them off.
Heated windscreen
The system operates only when theengine is running and also defroststhe front washer jets. Press theswitch to turn on or off. The lamp inthe switch indicates operation.
The heating system switches offautomatically after a short period oftime.
Heated rear window
Switch on the ignition first.
Press the switch to turn on or off. Thelamp in the switch indicatesoperation.
The heating system switches offautomatically after a short period oftime.
Heated exterior mirrors
Electrically operated door mirrors alsohave a heating element to clear theglass. This system operates whenthe heated rear window is switchedon.

The auxiliary heater aids in warmingthe engine and the interiorcompartment. It is integrated into thecooling system and is automaticallyswitched on or off depending uponthe coolant temperature.
It is possible that when theprogrammable auxiliary heater isactivated, exhaust fumes may comefrom under the sides of the vehicle.This is normal.
ELECTRIC SUNROOF
WARNING
Before operating the electricsunroof you should verify it isfree of obstructions and ensure thatchildren and/or pets are not in theproximity of the sunroof opening.Failure to do so could result in seriouspersonal injury. It is the primaryresponsibility of the supervising adultsto never leave a child unattended ina vehicle and to never leave the keysin an unattended vehicle.

Note: The electric sunroof isconnected to the vehicle’s globalopening and closing feature. SeeGlobal opening and closing (page 40).
There are two ways of opening thesunroof – the rear of the sunroof liftsopen or the sunroof opens from thefront, sliding back under the roof. Thesunroof opens and closes whilst theswitch is pressed.
Switch on the ignition to operate theelectric sunroof.

WARNING
Heating with the engine off willdrain the battery.
Note: The settings of the heatedseats are stored when the ignition isswitched off. When the ignition isswitched on again the settings arerestored automatically.
The heated seats can be individuallyadjusted step by step using thecontrols on the centre console.
Press the + button repeatedly to raisethe temperature. Pressing the –button repeatedly will lower thetemperature. The number ofilluminated lights beside the buttonindicates the selected step. When nolight is illuminated, the heating of theseat is switched off.
Recommended settings
Use step 1 or 2 for heating of the seatwith a comfortable temperature forlonger periods. The steps 4 and 5 areonly recommended for short periodswith a high difference in temperature.
VENTILATED SEATS
WARNING
Ventilating with the engine offwill drain the battery.
Note: The settings of the ventilatedseats are stored when the ignition isswitched off. When the ignition isswitched on again the settings arerestored automatically.
The ventilated seats can beindividually adjusted step by stepusing the controls on the centreconsole.
