Pick-up or Make phone call: Press this button to either pick-up an incomingphone call or to make a phone call.L
Seek: In radio mode, select a frequency band and press this button. The systemstops at the first station down the band. Press and hold the button to movequickly to the previous strong radio station. In CD mode, press this button toselect the previous track. Press and hold the button to move quickly backwardthrough the current track.

6.Press AUX until LINE or LINE INappears in the display. You should hearmusic from your device even if it is low.
7.Adjust the volume on your portablemusic player until it reaches the volumelevel of the FM station or CD. Do thisby switching back and forth betweenthe AUX and FM or CD controls.
USB PORT
The USB port allows you to plug in mediaplaying devices, memory sticks and chargedevices (if supported).

SYNC is an in-vehicle communicationssystem that works with yourBluetooth-enabled cell phone andportable media player.
This allows you to:
•Make and receive calls
•Access and play music from yourmedia player
•Use Emergency Assistance
•Access phonebook contacts and musicusing voice commands
•Stream music from your connected cellphone
•Select pre-defined text messages
•Use the advanced voice recognitionsystem
•Charge your USB device (if your devicesupports this).
Make sure that you review your device'smanual before using it with SYNC.

Speak naturally, without long pausesbetween words.
You can interrupt the system at any timewhile it is speaking by pressing the voicebutton. You can also cancel a voice sessionat any time by pressing and holding thevoice button.
Initiating a Voice Session
Press the voice button. A list ofavailable commands appears inthe display.

System Interaction and Feedback
The system provides feedback throughaudible tones, prompts, questions andspoken confirmations depending on thesituation and your chosen level ofinteraction. You can customize the voicerecognition system to provide more or lessinstruction and feedback.
The default setting is to a higher level ofinteraction in order to help you learn to usethe system. You can change these settingsat any time.
Adjusting the Interaction Level
Press the voice button. Whenprompted:

Check or uncheck this option to turn the Bluetooth interfaceof the system on or off. Select this option then press the OKbutton to change the option's status.
Bluetooth on
This selection does not erase your indexed information(phonebook, call history, text messages and paired devices).Set defaults
Select this option and confirm when prompted in the audiodisplay. Return to the factory default settings.
Completely erase all information stored on the system(phonebook, call history, text messages and paired devices)and return to the factory default settings.
Master reset
Select this option and confirm when prompted in the audiodisplay. The display indicates when complete and the systemtakes you back to the previous menu.
Install applications or software updates you have down-loaded.Install on SYNC
Select this option and confirm when prompted in the audiodisplay. There must be a valid SYNC application or updateavailable on the USB thumb drive in order to finish aninstallation successfully.
Display the system's version numbers as well as its serialnumber.System info
Press the OK button to select.
The voice settings submenu contains various options. SeeUsing Voice Recognition (page 306).Voice settings
Browse the actual menu structure of the connected USBdevice. Press the OK button and use the up or down arrowsto scroll through the folders and files. Use the left or rightarrows to enter and leave a folder. Media content can bedirectly selected for playback from this menu.

•When the line is connected, you mustbe prepared to provide your name,phone number and locationinformation immediately.
Note:While the system providesinformation to the emergency operator, thesystem plays a message letting you knowit is sending important information. It thenlets you know when the line is open to starthands-free communication.
Note:During an Emergency Assistance call,an emergency priority screen appears whichcontains vehicle GPS coordinates whenavailable.
Note:It is possible that GPS locationinformation is not available at the time ofthe crash; in this case, EmergencyAssistance will still attempt to place anemergency call.
Note:It is possible that the emergencyservices will not receive the GPScoordinates; in this case, hands-freecommunication with an emergency operatoris available.
Note:The emergency operator may alsoreceive information from the cellularnetwork such as cell phone number, cellphone location and cell phone carrier nameindependent from SYNC EmergencyAssistance.
Emergency Assistance may not work if:
•Your cell phone or EmergencyAssistance hardware sustains damagein the crash.
•The vehicle battery or the system hasno power.
•A crash ejects your cell phone fromyour vehicle.
•You do not have a valid and registeredSIM card with credit in your cell phone.
•You are in a European country or regionwhere the SYNC Emergency Assistancecannot place the call. Visit the regionalFord website for details.
Important Information about theEmergency Assistance Feature
Emergency Assistance does not currentlycall emergency services in the followingmarkets: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia andHerzegovina, Macedonia, Netherlands,Ukraine, Moldova and Russia.

Emergency Assistance Privacy Notice
When you switch on EmergencyAssistance, it may disclose to emergencyservices that your vehicle has been in acrash involving the deployment of anairbag or activation of the fuel pump shutoff. This feature has the capability todisclose your location information to theemergency operator or other details aboutyour vehicle or crash to provide the mostappropriate emergency services.
If you do not want to disclose thisinformation, do not switch on the feature.
SYNC AppLink
The system enables voice and manualcontrol of SYNC AppLink enabledsmartphone apps. Once an app is runningthrough AppLink, you can control mainfeatures of the app through voicecommands and manual controls.
Note:You must pair and connect yoursmartphone to SYNC to access AppLink.
Note:iPhone users need to connect thephone to the USB port.
Note:Android users need to connect thephone to SYNC using Bluetooth.

USING SYNC™ WITH YOUR
MEDIA PLAYER
You can access and play music from yourmedia player through your vehicle'sspeaker system using the system's mediamenu or voice commands. You can alsosort and play your music by specificcategories, for example artist or albums.
SYNC is capable of hosting nearly anymedia player including: iPod, Zune, Playsfrom device players, and most USB drives.SYNC also supports audio formats, forexample MP3, WMA, WAV and ACC.
Confirm that the USB device has beenformatted correctly and has the followingspecifications:
•USB 2.0.
•File format must be FAT16/32.
Note:NTFS file format is not supported.
The format of the audio files on the USBdevice must be:
•MP3.
•Non DRM protected WMA.
•WAV.
•AAC.
Connecting Your Media Player tothe USB Port
Note:If your media player has a powerswitch, make sure you switch on the device.
To Connect Using Voice Commands
1.Plug the device into your vehicle's USBport.
2.Press the voice button and whenprompted say:

Words in brackets [ ] are optional and do not have to be spoken for the system tounderstand the command. For example, for where (USB [stick] | iPOD | MP3 [player])appears, you can say USB or USB stick.
To Connect Using the System Menu
1.Plug the device into your vehicle's USBport.
2.Press the Media button (next to theaudio display) until an initializingmessage appears in the display.

Depending on how many media files are on your connecteddevice, an indexing message may appear in the display. Whenindexing is complete, the screen returns to the playback menu.

What's Playing?
At any time during playback, you can pressthe voice button and ask the system whatis playing. The system reads the metadatatags of the current track, if populated.
Media Voice Commands
