Unlocking the Luggage Compartment(Convertible Only)
If the power decklid release does notoperate because of a discharged battery,pull the rear seat left-hand side seatbackcushion aside, insert the mechanical keyblade into the key slot and turn the key torelease the decklid latch.
Opening the LuggageCompartment
From Inside Your Vehicle
Press the button on the instrument panelto open the luggage compartment.
From Outside Your Vehicle
Press the exterior release button hiddenabove the license plate. You need to haveyour vehicle unlocked or have an intelligentaccess key within 3 ft (1 m) of the luggagecompartment.
With the Remote Control
Press twice within three secondsto open the luggagecompartment.
Illuminated Entry
The interior lamps and select exteriorlamps illuminate when you unlock thedoors with the remote entry system.
The illuminated entry system turns off thelights if:
•The ignition is on.
•You press the remote control lockbutton.
•After 25 seconds of illumination.
The lights do not turn off if:
•You switch them on with the lampcontrol.
•Any door is open.

Illuminated Exit
The interior lamps and select exteriorlamps illuminate when all doors are closedand you switch the ignition off.
The lamps turn off if all the doors remainclosed and:
•After 25 seconds elapse.
•You press the START/STOP button.
Battery Saver
If you leave on the courtesy lamps, domelamps or headlamps, the battery saverturns them off 10 minutes after you switchoff the ignition.
Accessory Mode Battery Saver forIntelligent Access Keys
If you leave your vehicle in the run ignitionstate, it turns off once it detects a certainamount of battery drain or after 45minutes.
INTERIOR LUGGAGE
COMPARTMENT RELEASE
WARNING: Keep vehicle doors andluggage compartment locked and keepkeys and remote transmitters out of achild’s reach. Unsupervised childrencould lock themselves in the trunk andrisk injury. Children should be taught notto play in vehicles.
WARNING: Do not leave childrenor animals unattended in the vehicle. Onhot days, the temperature in the trunk orvehicle interior can rise very quickly.Exposure of people or animals to thesehigh temperatures for even a short timecan cause death or serious heat-relatedinjuries, including brain damage. Smallchildren are particularly at risk.
Your vehicle is equipped with a releasehandle that provides a means of escapefor children and adults if they becomelocked inside the luggage compartment.
Adults should familiarize themselves withthe operation and location of the releasehandle.
The handle is located inside the luggagecompartment either on the luggagecompartment door (lid) or near the taillamps. It is composed of a material thatwill glow for hours in darkness followingbrief exposure to ambient light.
Pull the handle and push up on the luggagecompartment door (lid) to open fromwithin the luggage compartment.

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT
SYSTEM
Note:The system is not compatible withnon-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.Use of these systems may result in vehiclestarting problems and a loss of securityprotection.
Note:Metallic objects, electronic devicesor a second coded key on the same keychain may cause vehicle starting problemsif they are too close to the key when startingyour vehicle. Prevent these objects fromtouching the coded key while starting yourvehicle. Switch the ignition off, move allobjects on the key chain away from thecoded key and restart your vehicle if aproblem occurs.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take your keys andlock all doors when leaving your vehicle.
SecuriLock
The system helps prevent your vehiclefrom starting unless you use a coded keyprogrammed to your vehicle. Using thewrong key may prevent your vehicle fromstarting. A message may appear in theinformation display.
If you are unable to start your vehicle witha correctly coded key, it is not operatingproperly. A message may appear in theinformation display.
Automatic Arming
Your vehicle arms immediately afterswitching the ignition off.
Automatic Disarming
Switching the ignition on with a coded keydisarms your vehicle.
Replacement Keys
Note:Your vehicle comes equipped withtwo intelligent access keys.
The intelligent access key functions as aprogrammed key that operates the driverdoor lock and activates the intelligentaccess with push button start system, aswell as a remote control.
If your programmed transmitters are lostor stolen and you do not have an extracoded key, you need to have your vehicletowed to an authorized dealer. You needto erase the key codes from your vehicleand program new coded keys.
Store an extra programmed key away fromyour vehicle in a safe place to help preventany inconveniences. See your authorizeddealer to purchase additional spare orreplacement keys.
Programming a Spare IntelligentAccess Key
Note:You can program a maximum of fourintelligent access keys to your vehicle.
You must have two previouslyprogrammed intelligent access keys insideyour vehicle and the new unprogrammedintelligent access keys readily accessible.See an authorized dealer to have the sparekey programmed if two previouslyprogrammed keys are not available.
Make sure that your vehicle is off beforebeginning this procedure. Make sure thatyou close all the doors before beginningand that they remain closed throughoutthe procedure. Perform all steps within 30seconds of starting the sequence. Stopand wait for at least one minute beforestarting again if you perform any steps outof sequence.
Read and understand the entire procedurebefore you begin.

1.Remove the rubber covering (A) fromthe cupholder. Place the firstprogrammed key in the backup slot (B)at the bottom of the cupholder, thenpress the push button ignition switch.
2.Wait five seconds and then press thepush button ignition switch again.
3.Remove the intelligent access key.
4.Within 10 seconds, place a secondprogrammed intelligent access key inthe backup slot. Press the push buttonignition switch.
5.Wait five seconds and then press thepush button ignition switch again.
6.Remove the intelligent access key.
7.Place the unprogrammed intelligentaccess key in the backup slot and pressthe push button ignition switch.
Programming is now complete. Verify theremote control functions operate and yourvehicle starts with the new intelligentaccess key.
If programming was not successful, wait10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 7.If you are still unsuccessful, take yourvehicle to your authorized dealer.
ANTI-THEFT ALARM (IF EQUIPPED)
The system will warn you of anunauthorized entry to your vehicle.
It will be triggered if any door, the luggagecompartment or the hood is openedwithout using the key or remote control.
The direction indicators will flash and thehorn will sound if unauthorized entry isattempted while the alarm is armed.
Take all remote controls to an authorizeddealer if there is a potential alarm problemwith your vehicle.
Arming the Alarm
The alarm is ready to arm when there isnot a key in your vehicle.
Electronically lock your vehicle to arm thealarm.
Disarming the Alarm
Disarm the alarm by any of the followingactions:
•Unlock the doors or luggagecompartment with the remote control.
•Switch your vehicle on or start yourvehicle.
•Use a key in the driver door to unlockyour vehicle, then switch your vehicleon within 12 seconds.
Note:Pressing the panic button on theremote control will stop the horn and signalindicators, but will not disarm the system.

Opening the Windows
You can open the windows for a short timeafter you unlock your vehicle with theremote control. After you unlock yourvehicle, press and hold the remote controlunlock button to open the windows.Release the button once movement starts.Press the lock or unlock button to stopmovement.

Heated Exterior Mirrors (If Equipped)

Memory Mirrors (If Equipped)
You can save and recall the mirrorpositions through the memory function.See Power Seats (page 136).
Signal Indicator Mirrors (If Equipped)
The outer portion of the appropriate mirrorhousing will blink when you switch on theturn signal.
Projection Lights (If Equipped)
The lights are on the bottom of the mirrorhousings. See Welcome Lighting (page83).
Integrated Blind Spot Mirrors (If
Equipped)
WARNING: Objects in the mirrorare closer than they appear.
Blind spot mirrors have an integratedconvex mirror built into the upper outboardcorner of the exterior mirrors. They canincrease your visibility along the side ofyour vehicle.
Check the main mirror first before a lanechange, then check the blind spot mirror.If the blind spot mirror does not show anyvehicles in its viewing area and the trafficin the adjacent lane is at a safe distance,signal that you intend to change lanes.Glance over your shoulder to verify trafficis clear and carefully change lanes.

Keyless Warning Alert
The horn sounds twice when you exit yourvehicle with the passive key and yourvehicle is in ON, indicating your vehicle isstill on. The horn also sounds twice whenyou exit your vehicle and attempt to lockthe doors manually when the passive keyis still in the vehicle. The doors will not lockif the passive key remains in the vehicle.
Headlamps On Warning Tone
Sounds when you remove the key from thevehicle and you have left the headlampsor parking lamps on.
Parking Brake On Warning Tone
Sounds when you have left the parkingbrake on and drive your vehicle. If thewarning tone remains on after you releasethe parking brake, have the systemchecked by your authorized dealerimmediately.
Transmission Not in Park
Sounds when the gear selector is in anyposition other than park (P), and youswitch the vehicle ignition off or to theaccessory position. If the door is ajar, thetone is continuous. Once you close thedoor, the tone continues for a period oftime.
Direction Indicator Left On
Sounds when the direction indicator doesnot disengage after 2.0 mi (3.2 km) ofdriving.
Beltminder Warning
Sounds when the system detects anunfastened seatbelt in an occupied seatand your vehicle is moving.

Saving a Preset Position
1.Switch the ignition on.
2.Adjust the memory features to yourpreferred position.
3.Press and hold the preferred presetbutton until you hear a single tone.
You can save up to three preset memorypositions at any time.
Recalling a Preset Position
Press and release a preset button.
Note:You can only recall a preset memoryposition when the ignition is off, or when thetransmission is in park (P) or neutral (N) ifthe ignition is on.
You can also recall a preset memoryposition by:
•Pressing the unlock button on yourintelligent access key fob if it is linkedto a preset position.
•Unlocking the intelligent driver doorhandle if a linked key fob is present.
Note:When the ignition is off and you usea linked key fob to recall your memoryposition, the seat moves to the easy entryposition.
Note:Pressing any of the preset buttonsduring a memory recall cancels theoperation.
Seat recall movement also stops if youdrive your vehicle.
Linking a Preset Position to yourRemote Control or IntelligentAccess Key Fob
You can save preset memory positions forup to three remote controls or intelligentaccess keys.
1.With the ignition on, move the memorypositions to the preferred positions.
2.Press and hold a preset button for fiveseconds. A tone sounds after twoseconds. Continue holding until youhear a second tone.
3.Within three seconds, press the lockbutton on the remote control you arelinking.
To unlink a remote control, follow thesame procedure – except in step 3, pressthe unlock button on the remote control.
Note:If more than one linked remotecontrol or intelligent access key is in range,the memory function moves to the settingsof the first key to initiate a memory recall.
Easy Entry and Exit Feature
If you enable the easy entry and exitfeature, it moves the driver seat positionrearward up to 2 in (5 cm) when you switchthe ignition off.
The driver seat returns to the previousposition when you switch the ignition on.

DOOR OPENER WORK
The system includes two primary features,a garage door opener and a platform forremote activation of devices within thehome. You can program garage doors aswell as entry gate operators, securitysystems, entry door locks and home oroffice lighting.

Note:You can program a maximum ofthree devices. To change or replace any ofthe three devices after it has been initiallyprogrammed, you must first erase thecurrent settings. See Clearing the GarageDoor Opener (page 142).
GARAGE DOOR OPENER
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not use the systemwith any garage door opener that doesnot have the safety stop and reversefeature as required by U.S. FederalSafety Standards (this includes anygarage door opener manufacturedbefore April 1, 1982). A garage dooropener which cannot detect an object,signaling the door to stop and reverse,does not meet current federal safetystandards. Using a garage door openerwithout these features increases the riskof serious injury or death.
Note:Make sure that the garage door andsecurity device are free from obstructionwhen you are programming. Do not programthe system with your vehicle in the garage.
Note:Make sure you keep the originalremote control transmitter for use in othervehicles as well as for future systemprogramming.
Note:We recommend that upon the saleor lease termination of your vehicle, youerase the programmed function buttons forsecurity reasons. See Clearing the GarageDoor Opener (page 142).
GARAGE DOOR OPENER
LIMITATIONS
Canadian radio-frequency laws requiretransmitter signals to time-out (or quit)after several seconds – which may not belong enough for HomeLink to pick up thesignal.
U.S. gate operators time-out in the samemanner.
