Locking Using Passive Entry
With your passive key within 3 ft (1 m) ofyour vehicle, touch the outer door handlelock sensor for approximately one secondto lock, being careful not to touch theunlock sensor on the back of the doorhandle at the same time. After locking, youcan immediately pull on the door handleto confirm locking occurred withoutinadvertently unlocking.
Note:Do not use the outside door handleas an anchor-point for the cargo strap.
Smart Unlocks for IntegratedKeyhead Transmitter (If Equipped)
This helps to prevent you from lockingyourself out of your vehicle if the key is stillin the ignition.
When you open one of the front doors andlock your vehicle with the power door lockcontrol, all the doors will lock then unlockand the horn will sound twice if the key isstill in the ignition.
You can still lock your vehicle with the keyin the ignition by:
•Pressing the lock button on the remotecontrol even if the doors are not closed.
If both front doors are closed, you can lockyour vehicle by any method, regardless ofwhether the key is in the ignition or not.
Mislock (If Equipped)
The horn sounds twice and the directionindicators do not flash:
•If any door or the luggagecompartment is open.
•If the hood is open on vehicles with ananti-theft alarm or remote start.
You can switch this feature on or off in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 96).
Autolock (If Equipped)
Autolock locks all the doors when:
•All doors are closed.
•The ignition is on.
•You shift into any gear putting yourvehicle in motion.
•Your vehicle reaches a speed greaterthan 4 mph (7 km/h).
Autolock repeats when:
•You open then close any door while theignition is on and your vehicle speed is4 mph (7 km/h) or lower.
•Your vehicle reaches a speed greaterthan 4 mph (7 km/h).
Autounlock
Autounlock unlocks all the doors when:
•The ignition is on, all the doors areclosed, and your vehicle has beenmoving at a speed greater than 4 mph(7 km/h).
•Your vehicle comes to a stop and youswitch the ignition off or to theaccessory position.
•You open the driver door within 10minutes of switching the ignition off orto accessory.

Note: The doors do not autounlock if youelectronically lock your vehicle after youswitch the ignition off and before you openthe driver door.
Enabling or Disabling Autounlock
You can enable or disable the autounlockfeature in the information display or anauthorized dealer can do it for you. SeeGeneral Information (page 96).

TAILGATE LOCK
The tailgate lock can help prevent theft ofthe tailgate.
Insert the ignition key into the tailgate lock.Turn it to the left to lock the tailgate. Turnit to the right to unlock the tailgate.
Power Tailgate Lock (If Equipped)
You can use the power door lock controlor the remote control to lock and unlockyour tailgate.
REMOVING THE TAILGATE
WARNING: Always properly securecargo to prevent shifting cargo or cargofalling from the vehicle. Failure to do socould result in compromised vehiclestability and serious personal injury tovehicle occupants or others.
You can remove the tailgate for moreloading room.
1.Locate and disconnect the in-lineconnector. It is under the pickup boxon the center right-hand side of thevehicle near the spare tire.
2.There is a protective cap in the glovebox. Install it on the in-line connectorthat remains under the pickup box.
3.Partially lower the tailgate. Carefullyfeed the tailgate harness up throughthe gap between the pickup box andthe bumper and place it out of the wayunder the pickup box.
4.Lower the tailgate.
5.Lift the tailgate to 45 degrees fromhorizontal.
6.Lift the right side off its hinge.

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT
SYSTEM
Note: The system is not compatible withnon-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.Use of these systems could result in vehiclestarting problems and a loss of securityprotection.
Note:Metallic objects, electronic devicesor a second coded key on the same keychain could cause vehicle starting problemsif they are too close to the key when startingthe engine. Prevent these objects fromtouching the coded key while starting theengine. Switch the ignition off, move allobjects on the key chain away from thecoded key and restart the engine if aproblem occurs.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin the vehicle. Always take your keys andlock all doors when leaving the vehicle.
SecuriLock®
The system is an engine immobilizationsystem. It helps to prevent anyone fromstarting the engine without using a codedkey programmed to your vehicle. Using thewrong key could prevent the engine fromstarting. A message may appear in theinformation display.
If you are unable to start the engine with acorrectly coded key, there is a problem withthe system and a message could appearin the information display.
Automatic Arming
The vehicle arms immediately after youswitch the ignition off.
Automatic Disarming
Switching the ignition on with a coded keydisarms the vehicle.
Replacement Keys
Note:Your vehicle comes with twointegrated keyhead transmitters or twointelligent access keys.
The integrated keyhead transmitterfunctions as a programmed ignition keythat operates all the locks and starts thevehicle, as well as a remote control.
The intelligent access key functions as aprogrammed key that operates the driverdoor lock and activates the intelligentaccess with push button start system, aswell as a remote control.
If your programmed transmitters orstandard SecuriLock coded keys(integrated keyhead transmitters only) arelost or stolen and you do not have an extracoded key, you will need to have yourvehicle towed to an authorized dealer. Youneed to erase the key codes from yourvehicle and program new coded keys.
Store an extra programmed key away fromthe vehicle in a safe place to help preventany inconveniences. See your authorizeddealer to purchase additional spare orreplacement keys.
Programming a Spare IntelligentAccess Key (If Equipped)
See your authorized dealer to haveadditional keys programmed to yourvehicle.

Alarm System
Perimeter Alarm
The perimeter alarm is a deterrent againstunauthorized access to your vehiclethrough the doors, luggage compartmentand the hood.

Panic Alarm (If Equipped)
The alarm can be activated using theremote control.
Triggering the Alarm
•If someone opens a door or the hoodwithout a valid key or remote control.
•If you switch the ignition on without avalid key.
If the alarm sounds, the alarm horn soundsfor 30 seconds and the hazard warninglamps flash for five minutes.
Any further attempts to carry out one ofthe above will sound the alarm again.
Arming the Alarm
Press the lock button once to lock yourvehicle and arm the alarm.
Disarming the Alarm
Disarm the alarm by any of the followingactions:
•Unlock the doors with the key andswitch the ignition on with a correctlycoded key within 12 seconds.
•Unlock the doors or luggagecompartment using the remote control.

ADJUSTING THE STEERING
WHEEL
WARNING: Do not adjust thesteering wheel when your vehicle ismoving.
Note:Make sure that you are sitting in thecorrect position. See Sitting in the CorrectPosition (page 124).
1.Unlock the steering column.
2.Adjust the steering wheel to the desiredposition.
3.Lock the steering column.

Vehicles With Front Fog Lamps

Vehicles Without Front Fog Lamps
Press repeatedly or press andhold to dim.A

DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS
WARNING: The daytime runninglamps system does not activate the rearlamps and may not provide adequatelighting during low visibility drivingconditions. Make sure you switch theheadlamps on, as appropriate, during alllow visibility conditions. Failure to do somay result in a crash.
The system turns the lamps on in daylightconditions.
To switch the system on, switch thelighting control to any position exceptheadlamps.
AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM
CONTROL
WARNING: The system does notrelieve you of your responsibility to drivewith due care and attention. You mayneed to override the system if it does notturn the high beams on or off.
The system turns on high beams if it is darkenough and no other traffic is present. If itdetects an approaching vehicle’sheadlamps or tail lamps, or street lightingahead, the system turns off high beamsbefore they can distract other road users.Low beams remain on.
Note:The system may not operate properlyif the sensor is blocked. Keep the windshieldfree from obstruction or damage.
Note:The system may not operate properlyin cold or inclement conditions. You canswitch on the high beams by overriding thesystem.

Note:If the system detects a blockage, forexample bird droppings, bug splatter, snowor ice, the system goes into low beam modeuntil you clear the blockage. A message mayappear in the information display if thecamera is blocked.
Note:Using much larger tires or equippingvehicle accessories such as snowplows canmodify your vehicle's ride height anddegrade automatic high beam controlperformance.
A camera sensor, centrally mountedbehind the windshield of your vehicle,continuously monitors conditions to turnthe high beams on and off.
Once the system is active, the high beamsturn on if:
•The ambient light level is low enough.
•There is no traffic in front of yourvehicle.
•The vehicle speed is greater thanapproximately 32 mph (51 km/h).
The system turns the high beams off if:
•The ambient light level is high enoughthat high beams are not required.
•The system detects an approachingvehicle's headlamps or tail lamps.
•The vehicle speed falls belowapproximately 27 mph (44 km/h).
•The system detects severe rain, snowor fog.
•The camera is blocked.
Switching the System On and Off
Switch the system on using the informationdisplay. See Information Displays (page96).
Switch the lighting control to theautolamps position. See Autolamps(page 78).
Overriding the System
Push the lever away from you to switchbetween high beam and low beam.
Automatic High Beam Indicator
The indicator illuminates toconfirm when the system isready to assist.
FRONT FOG LAMPS
Using the Front Fog Lamps
To switch the lamps on or off:
1.Set the lighting control to the parkinglamps, headlamps or autolampsposition.
Note:When the lighting control is in theautolamps position, you cannot switch thefog lamps on unless the low beamheadlamps are on.

Press the button on thelighting control to switch the front foglamps on or off.
Note:Only switch the front fog lamps onduring reduced visibility.

Note:The brightness of the daytime runninglamps may decrease when the front foglamps are on.

Front Fog Lamp Indicator
It illuminates when you switchthe front fog lamps on.
DIRECTION INDICATORS
Switching the Direction IndicatorsOn and Off
Push the lever up or down to switch thedirection indicators on.
Note:Tap the lever up or down to make thedirection indicators flash three times.
Set the lever to the middle position toswitch the direction indicators off.
Direction Indicator
Flashes when you switch thedirection indicators on.
Note:An increase in the rate of flashingwarns of a failed indicator bulb.
INTERIOR LAMPS
Courtesy Lamp
Switch all lamps on.A

If you set the switch to the door position,the courtesy lamp illuminates when youunlock or open any door. If you leave a dooropen with the ignition switched off, thecourtesy lamp goes off after some time toprevent your vehicle battery from losingcharge. To switch it back on, switch theignition on for a short time.
The courtesy lamp also illuminates whenyou switch the ignition off. It goes off aftera short time or when you start the engine.
If you set the switch to the all on positionwith the ignition switched off, the courtesylamp illuminates. It goes off after a shorttime to prevent your vehicle battery fromlosing charge. To switch it back on, switchthe ignition on for a short time.

Note: In vehicles without global openingand closing, you cannot operate the rearwindows from driver side when you pressthe safety switch. In certain vehicles, youcannot operate front passenger windowsas well.
Press the control to lock or unlock the rearwindow controls.
Resetting the Memory of theElectric Windows - Vehicle withOne Touch Up/Down on DriverSide only
Note:The bounce back feature remainsturned off until you reset the memory.
In the event of a flat battery or after thebattery is disconnected from the vehicle,you must reset the memory for the driverwindow.
1.Open the window and then try to closeit using the one-touch feature.
2.Lift and hold the switch to the secondaction point until you fully close thewindow.
3.Lift and hold the switch for more thantwo seconds and release.
4.Open the window using the first actionpoint and try to close it automaticallyusing the second action point.
5.If the window does not open or closeautomatically when you press theswitch or lift it to the second actionpoint, repeat the procedure.
Safety Mode
Note:The anti-trap function is not activeduring this procedure.
If the system detects a malfunction, itenters a safety mode. The windows movea little at a time and then stop again. Closethe windows by pressing the switch againwhen the windows stop moving.
Contact an authorized dealer.
Bounce-Back
The window automatically stops andreverses some distance if it detects anobstacle when closing.
Overriding the Bounce-Back Feature
WARNING: If you overridebounce-back, the window does notreverse if it detects an obstacle. Takecare when closing the windows to avoidpersonal injury or damage to yourvehicle.
Proceed as follows to override thisprotection feature when there is aresistance, for example in winter:
1.Close the window twice until it reachesthe point of resistance and let itreverse.
2.Close the window a third time to thepoint of resistance. The bounce-backfeature is now disabled and you canclose the window manually. Thewindow will go past the point ofresistance and you can close it fully.
See an authorized dealer as soon aspossible if the window does not close afterthe third attempt.
Resetting the Bounce-Back Feature
Note:The bounce-back feature remainsturned off until you reset the memory.
