Setting the autolamp

The headlamps can be adjusted to turn on earlier or later in the
day according to the amount of outside light reaching the
sensor inside the mirror. To turn the headlamps on using
Autolamp, perform the following procedure.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and place the
Autolamp slide knob to OFF.
[CF28011(ALL)10/96]2.
Press and hold the MODE switch throughout the procedure.
The MODE switch is located in a hole on the bottom left
side of the mirror. It can be accessed with a paper clip or
similar object.

Slowly slide the Autolamp slide knob to the right until the
headlamps turn on. To have the headlamps turn on earlier,
go to step 4. To have the headlamps turn on later, go to step
5.

Slowly slide the Autolamp slide knob to the left until the
headlamps turn off. Go to step 6.
[CF28041(ALL)10/96]5.
Slowly slide the Autolamp slide knob to the right until the
headlamps turn off. Go to step 6.

Release the MODE switch. The new setting will be stored in
permanent memory. If further change is required, you must
repeat the procedure from the beginning.

Front Dome Lamp
[CF28800(ALL)01/96]
Front dome lamp, rear cargo and second row reading lamp may
be turned on and off using the dimmer switch.
[CF28900(ALL)09/96]
The front dome lamp is located in the overhead console
between the driver and front passenger seats.

NOTE: If the sliding door is open when all doors are locked
with the power door lock switch, the sliding door
automatically locks when it is closed.

door locks to override the power locks.

Power Windows with Accessory Delay (If equipped)

Both of the front doors have a power control that opens and
closes the window on that door. The driver's door has master
controls that operate both front door windows. You must
initially place the ignition switch in the ON or ACC position to
use your power window controls. The Accessory Delay function
also allows the power windows to be operated for up to 30
seconds after the ignition key is removed or taken out of the
ON or ACC position. Accessory Delay will be cancelled,
however, if either of the front doors are opened.

Cancelling and reactivating the one-touch-down feature

The one-touch-down power window feature can be cancelled
and reactivated at any time using the following procedure:
[CF35800(ALL)01/96]1.
Make sure the two front doors are securely closed.
[CF35900(ALL)01/96]2.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn first to the ON
position and then back to the OFF position. Remove the key
and within 30 seconds:

Press the DOWN side of the driver's side window rocker
switch, gently and not all the way down.

Within two seconds, put the key in the ignition.

Manual Flip-Open Quarter Windows
[CF36600(ALL)01/96]
To open the flip-open quarter windows in the third row,
squeeze the upper and lower pads and pull the rear portion of
the latch toward you. Swing the latch forward and out, then
lock it into the open position by pushing rearward until you
hear a click. To close the windows, squeeze the upper and
lower pads and pull the handle inward. Release pads and push
the handle inward until you hear a click.

Power Quarter Windows (If equipped)

The power rear quarter vent windows operate with the ignition
in the ON or ACC positions. The vent windows are controlled
by the right and left switches located on the door panel. Press
the indented side of the switch to open the windows; press the
raised side of the switch to close the windows.

Battery Saver

When the ignition switch is turned to OFF, the vehicle will turn
off battery voltage to the interior lamps after 45 minutes. (The
exterior lamps are not affected.) The purpose is to minimize
extended battery drain if the lights have inadvertently been left
on or if a door or the glove box is not completely closed.
However, the timer will be immediately reset to another 45
minutes if any of the following occurs:

the front door handle is lifted (for Illuminated Entry only)

If your vehicle has the remote entry system, you can lock and
unlock the vehicle doors without using a key. The remote entry
system also has a personal alarm feature. The buttons that
control the system are located on the hand held transmitter that
comes with your vehicle.

The system will work with up to four remotes. Your vehicle
came with two remotes. Additional remotes can be ordered
from your dealer.

The remote entry features only operate with the ignition in the

Activating the remote personal alarm
[CF46700(ALL)08/96]
If you wish to activate the remote personal alarm, press the
PANIC button. This will honk the horn and flash the tail lamps
and low beam headlamps for approximately two minutes and
forty-five seconds. You can turn it OFF by pressing the PANIC
button again on the same transmitter or by turning the ignition
key to the RUN position. If the alarm does not turn off, move
the transmitter closer to the vehicle and press the button again.

When you use the remote entry UNLOCK, or PANIC buttons,
the illuminated entry system turns on the interior lights for 25
seconds. You can turn these lights off with the LOCK button or
by turning the ignition to the RUN position.

Replacing the batteries

The remote is powered by two coin type three-volt lithium 2016
batteries (included) that should last for several years of normal
use. If you notice a significant decrease in operating range, the
batteries should be replaced. Replacement batteries can be
purchased at most pharmacies, watch stores or at your Ford or
Lincoln-Mercury dealer.

NOTE: The operating range of the remote entry system can
also be affected by weather conditions (such as very
cold temperatures) or structures around the vehicle
(buildings, other vehicles, radio towers, etc.). Typical
operating range will allow you to be up to 33 feet (10
meters) away from your vehicle.

Illuminated Entry System (If equipped)

This system will provide illumination of the vehicle's interior
courtesy lamps when the remote entry system is used to unlock
the door or sound the personal alarm. The system will
automatically turn off after approximately 25 seconds, when the
ignition is turned to the RUN or ACC position or when the lock
button on the transmitter is pressed.

NOTE: The illuminated entry timer will not turn off the
courtesy lamps if they have been turned on by the
door and or dimmer switch.

Arming the System

alarm indicator light will now glow steadily.

Close all doors and liftgate. The alarm indicator light will
then remain on steadily for 30 seconds and then go out.
When the light starts flashing, the system is armed.

NOTE: Be sure to close all doors completely. If not, the alarm
indicator light will remain on. Remember, your
anti-theft system is armed only after the alarm
indicator light remains on steadily for approximately
30 seconds after the last door is closed, and then goes
out.

You can also arm the anti-theft system by following this
sequence:

Remove the key from the ignition. The hood must be closed
to arm the system.

Close all of the doors and liftgate.

Press the remote entry transmitter LOCK button. The alarm
indicator will come on for 30 seconds to show the alarm is
arming and then flash to show that it has armed.

Disarming an Untriggered Anti-Theft System

You can disarm the system by unlocking either front door or
the liftgate with your door key. Turn the key all the way to the
end of travel or the system will not disarm.

You can also disarm the system by unlocking the driver's door
by using the UNLOCK button of the remote entry transmitter.
[CF52200(ALL)04/96]
If the system is armed and you remain in your vehicle, simply
insert the key into the ignition and turn it to ON. This disarms
the system and allows you to open the door and exit without
triggering the system.
