Push the right lever up or down to
select a position.
The wipers run at high
speed until you release the lever.
The wipers are not activated. The wipers run at low speed.
The wipers run at high speed. Pull the
wiper control lever toward you, and
hold it. The washers spray until you
release the lever. The wipers run at
low speed, then complete one more
sweep after you release the lever.

interval is varied automatically
according to vehicle’s speed.
Vary the delay by turning the
adjustment ring. If you turn it to the
shortest delay ( position), the

Rotate the switch counterclockwise
also to spray the window washer
and turn the wiper on.Hold past ON to activate the rear
window wiper a f ew times and to
spray the rear window washer.
Rotate the switch clockwise to
turn the rear window wiper ON.
The wiper operates every 7
seconds after completing When you turn the wiper switch to
the ‘‘OFF’’ position, the wiper will

lef t lever to signal a lef t turn and up
to signal a right turn. To signal a lane
change, push lightly on the lever and
hold it. The lever will return to the
center when you release it or
complete a turn. Turning the switch to
the ‘‘ ’’ position turns on the
parking lights, taillights, instrument
panel lights, side-marker lights, and
rear license plate lights.
Turning the switch to the ‘‘ ’’
position turns on the headlights.
When the light switch is in the
‘‘ ’’ or ‘‘ ’’ position, the
lights on indicator comes on as
This indicator stays on if you leave
the lights on and turn the ignition
switch to the ACCESSORY (I) or
LOCK (0) position.
If you leave the lights on with
switch, you will hear a reminder
chime when you open the
driver’s door. Push the lef t lever
f orward until you hear a click. The
blue high beam indicator will come
on (see page ). Pull the lever back
to return to the low beams.
To f lash the high beams, pull the
lever back lightly, then release it.
The high beams will stay on as long
as you hold the lever back. 69

µThe automatic lighting f eature is
controlledbyasensorlocatedontop
of the dashboard. Do not cover this
sensor or spill liquids on it.
The automatic lighting
f eature turns on the headlights, all
other exterior lights, and the
instrument panel lights when it
senses low ambient light.
To turn on the automatic lighting,
turn the light switch to the AUTO
position. The lights will come on
automatically when the outside light
level becomes low (at dusk, f or
example). The lights on indicator
comesonasareminder.Thelights
and indicator turn off automatically
when the system senses high
ambient light.
The lights turn of f automatically
when you turn the ignition switch to
the LOCK (0) position. To turn them
on again, either turn the ignition
switch to the ON (II) position, or
turn the light switch to the position. Even with the automatic lighting
feature turned on, we recommend
that you turn on the lights
manually when driving at night or
in a dense fog, or when you enter
dark areas such as long tunnels or
parking facilities.

With the headlight switch of f or in
the position, the high beam
headlights and the high beam
indicator come on with reduced
brightness when you turn the
ignition switch to the ON (II)
position and release the parking
brake. They remain on until you turn
the ignition switch of f , even if you
set the parking brake.
The headlights revert to normal
operation when you turn them on
with the switch.If you see a ‘‘CHECK DRL
SYSTEM’’ message on the multi-
inf ormation display, there is a
problem with the daytime running
light system. Take your vehicle to a
dealer to have it checked.

To reduce glare at night, the
instrument panel illumination dims
when you turn the light switch to theor position. Turning the
knob to the right until you hear a
tone will cancel the reduced
brightness.
The instrument panel will
illuminate with reduced brightness
when you unlock and open the
driver’s door. The brightness will
increase slightly when you insert
the key in the ignition switch,
then go to normal brightness when
you turn the ignition switch to the
ON (II) position.
The knob on the instrument panel
controls the brightness of the
instrument panel lights. Turn the
knob to adjust the brightness with
the ignition switch in the ON (II)
position and the parking lights on. When you turn the knob, the multi-
inf ormation display changes to
vertical bars that show you the
current level.
You will hear a tone when you reach
the maximum or minimum
brightness. The brightness level
goes out about 5 seconds af ter you
stop adjusting.

If you do not insert the key in the
ignition switch af ter opening the
driver’s door, the illumination turns
of f about 30 seconds af ter you close
the door.
If you insert the key but do not turn
the ignition switch to the ON (II)
position, the illumination turns of f in
about 10 seconds.Push the button next to the audio
system to turn on the hazard
warning lights (f our-way f lashers).
This causes all f our outside turn
signal lights and both turn signal
indicators in the instrument panel to
f lash. Use the hazard warning lights
if you need to park in a dangerous
area near heavy traffic, or if your

The def ogger will shut itself of f
within about 10 to 30 minutes
according to the outside temperature
(over 32°F, 0°C).
Make sure all rear windows are clear
and you have good visibility bef ore
starting to drive.Pushing this button also turns the
mirror heaters on or of f . For more
inf ormation, see
page .
The def ogger and antenna wires on
the inside of all rear windows can be
accidentally damaged. When
cleaning the glass, always wipe side-
to-side.
The rear window def ogger will clear
fog, frost, and thin ice from the
windows. Push the def ogger button
to turn it on and off. The indicator in
the button comes on to show the
def ogger is on. It also shuts of f when
you turn of f the ignition switch. You
have to turn the defogger on again
when you restart the vehicle. 148U.S. EX models and all Canadian models

Press the ECON button to activate
the ECON mode. ECON ON will be
displayed on the multi-inf ormation
display and the ECON mode
indicator will illuminate in the
instrument panel. Press the ECON
button again to turn it off. ECON
OFF will appear on the multi-
inf ormation display.
The ECON button turns the ECON
mode on and off. The ECON mode
helps you improve your fuel
economy by modifying some
vehicle functions. When the ECON
mode is on: In addition, when the ECON mode is
on, you may get more Eco Assist
points (seepage).
The climate control system will
have greater temperature
f luctuations Engine perf ormance will be
dif f erent Whenyouturnoff andthenrestart
the engine, the ECON mode setting
remains the same as previously set.
