o Unlocked doors can be dangerous. Before
you drive away (especially if there are chil-dren in the car), be sure that all the doorsare securely closed and locked so that thedoors cannot be inadvertently opened fromthe inside. This helps ensure that doorswill not be opened accidentally. Also, whencombined with the proper use of seat belts,locking the doors helps keep occupantsfrom being ejected from the car in case ofan accident.
o Before opening the door, always look for and avoid oncoming traffic.
o In case of accident the door is unlocked automatically (Not all models).

All of the locks fitted to the vehicle are operated by the same key. However, since it is possible tolock the doors without the use of the key, careshould be exercised to ensure that the key doesnot become locked inside the vehicle by mistake. The vehicle key number is recorded upon a metal tag attached to the keys when the vehicleis first delivered to you.The key number should be recorded and kept ina safe place in case the need to order furtherkeys arises. New keys are available from anyHyundai dealer by quoting the relevant key num-ber.In the interest of security, the metal tag attachedto the keys which bears the key number shouldbe removed from the key ring after you receiveyour new vehicle. In addition, key numbers can-not be provided by Hyundai for security reasons.If you need additional keys or if you should loseyour keys, your authorized Hyundai dealer canmake new keys.

The power windows operate only when the igni- tion key is in the "ON" position. The main switchesare located on the driver's arm rest and controlthe front windows on the respective sides of thevehicle. The windows may be opened by de-pressing the front portion of the switch. To stop atthe desired opening, release the switch. Thewindow may be closed by pulling the front portionof the switch. In order to prevent operation of thepassenger front window by passenger, a windowlock switch (1) is provided on the arm rest of thedriver's door. To disable the passenger's powerwindow, push the window lock switch. To revertto normal operation, push in on the window lockswitch again.
CAUTION:Never try to operate the main switch and sub-switch in opposing directions at the sametime. If this is done, the window will stop andcannot be opened or closed. Auto-Down Window (Driver's Side) (Not all models) The Auto-Down window is moved to its fully open position by pushing the switch, and to stop at thedesired position push in on the switch again.
2. Remove the old battery from the case and
note the polarity. Make sure the polarity of thenew battery is the same(+side facing down),then insert it in the transmitter.
NOTE: Install a new battery within 30 seconds after remove the old one, if installing a new batterytakes more than 30 seconds, take the follow-ing steps.
1) Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" posi- tion.
2) Make sure that the turn signal lights blink once by pushing the "LOCK" or "UN- LOCK" button on the transmitter.

SB070A1-E FRONT SEAT ADJUSTMENT WARNING: Front seat adjustments must not be under- taken whilst the vehicle is in motion. Loss ofcontrol of the vehicle may result if seat ad-justments are made whilst the vehicle is inmotion. SB070B2-E Front seat rake adjustment The front seat rake adjustment is performed by raising the lever at the front of the seat base andsliding the seat to the desired position. At thisposition the lever should be released and theseat rocked to and fro to ensure that the mecha-nism has locked.

SB070C1-E Front seat recline adjustment The front seat back recline angle may be ad- justed by leaning forward slightly and raising therecline adjustment lever at the side of the seat.When the seatback is at the desired angle, thelever should be released. Ensure that theseatback is locked before driving the vehicle.

On each side of the rear seat, between the cushion and backrest, are located a pair of ISOFIXanchorage points together with a top tether mount-ing on the luggage compartment. During theinstalling, the seat has to be engaged at theanchorage-points in a way you can hear it click-ing (check by pulling!) and has to be fixed with theTop Tether-belt on the belonging point in theluggage-compartment. The installing and the useof a child-seat has to be done according to theinstalling-manual, which is added to the ISOFIX-seat. NOTE:An ISOFIX-child-seat can only be installed ifthe seat has a vehicle-specific approval ac-cording to ECE-R44. Before using the ISOFIX-child-seat, which was bought for another car,ask your Hyundai-dealer whether this seat-type is approved and recommended for yourHyundai. To secure the child restraint seat
1. To engage the child restraint seat to the
ISOFIX anchor, insert the child restraint seat latch into the ISOFIX anchor. Listen for theaudible "click" sound.
2. Connect the tether strap hook to the child restraint hook holder and tighten to securethe seat. Refer to "Securing a Child RestraintSystem with the Tether Anchorage System"on page 1-15.

o There is no rear centre seating position.
o Do not install a child restraint seat at the
center of the rear seat using the vehicle'sISOFIX anchors. The ISOFIX anchors areonly provided for the left and right out-board rear seating positions. Do not mis-use the ISOFIX anchors by attempting toattach a child restraint seat in the middleof the rear seat to the ISOFIX anchors. Ina crash, the child restraint seat ISOFIXattachments may not be strong enough tosecure the child restraint seat properly inthe center of the rear seat and may break,causing serious injury or death.
o Do not mount more than one child re- straint to a child restraint lower anchor-age point. The improper increased loadmay cause the anchorage points or tetheranchor to break, causing serious injury ordeath.
o Attach the ISOFIX or ISOFIX-compatible child restraint seat only to the appropriatelocations shown in the illustration.
o Always follow the installation and use instructions provided by the manufacturerof the child restraint.

Instantaneous Fuel Consumption gauge It shows instantaneous fuel consumption ac- cording to the driving condition. The more indi-cated figure is low, the more it indicates efficientdriving situation. Volt gauge It shows moment volt change and makes for diver correspond to low volt situation.

SB220A1-E MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH Turn Signal Operation To signal an intention to turn right, the switch lever should be pressed down. To signal anintention to turn left, the switch lever should bepushed upwards. In both instances, the turnsignal lamps on one side of the car will flash andthe warning lamp located in the instrument clus-ter will flash in sympathy. Upon completion of themanoeuvre, the lever will, under normal circum-stances, return to the "Off" position. However, ifthe manoeuvre involved only a small movementof the steering wheel, the signal may need to becancelled manually. If either turn signal indicatorflashes more rapidly than normal or refuses toflash at all, a malfunction of the turn signal sys-tem may exist. SB220B1-E Lane Change Signal

(2) In the "DOOR" position, the interior courtesy light comes on when any door is opened regardless of the ignition key position. Thelight goes out gradually 6 seconds after thedoor is closed.

for an unnecessary length of time.
o Scraping ice from the mirror face could cause permanent damage. To remove any ice, use a sponge, soft cloth or approvedde-icer.
WARNING:Be careful when judging the size or distanceof any object seen in the passenger siderear view mirror. It is a convex mirror with acurved surface. Any objects seen in thismirror are closer than they appear. SB360C1-F FOLDING THE OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS To fold the outside rear view mirrors, push them towards the rear.The outside rear view mirrors can be foldedrearward for parking in restricted areas. WARNING: Do not adjust or fold the outside rear viewmirrors while the vehicle is moving. Thiscould result in loss of control, and an acci-dent causing death, serious injury or proper-ty damage.
B510D01Y-EAT OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR HEATER (Not all models) The outside rearview mirror heater is actuated in connection with the rear window defroster. Toheat the outside rearview mirror glass, push in the switch for the rear window defroster. Therearview mirror glass will be heated for defrost-ing or defogging and will give you improved rearvision in inclement weather conditions. Push theswitch again to turn the heater off. The outsiderearview mirror heater automatically turns itselfoff after 15 minutes.

YB270B2-A EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR Electric Type The outside rear view mirror can be adjusted in any direction to give the maximum rear viewvision. The remote control out side rear view mirror switch controls the adjustments for both rightand left door mirror. To adjust the position of either mir- ror:
1. Move the selecting switch to the right or left to activate the adjustable mechanism for the corresponding door mirror.
2. Now, adjust mirror angle by depressing the appropriate perimeter switch as illustrated.

2- 6 The first few shifts on a new vehicle, or if the battery has been disconnected, may besomewhat abrupt. This is a normal condi-tion, and the shifting sequence will adjustafter shifts are cycled a few times by theT.C.M (Transaxle Control Module). CAUTION: Never shift into "R" or "P" position while the vehicle is moving. The indicator lights in the instrument cluster indicate the selector lever position when theignition is switched "ON". During "D" or sportsmode operation, the gear currently in use dis-plays in the numeral indicator.

The function of each position is as follows:
o P (Park): Use to hold the vehicle in place when parked or while starting the engine. Whenever parking thecar, apply the parking brake and shift the selec-tor lever to the "P" (Park) position. CAUTION: Never place the selector lever in the "P"(Park) position unless the vehicle is fullystopped. Failure to observe this caution willcause severe damage to the transaxle. C090C01A-AAT
o R(Reverse): Use for backing up the vehicle. Bring the car to a complete stop before shifting the selectorlever to "R" position. C090D02O-AAT
o N (Neutral): In the "N" position, the transaxle is in neutral, which means that no gears are engaged. Theengine can be started with the shift lever in "N"position, although this is not recommended ex-cept if the engine stalls while the car is moving.

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE
The highly efficient Hyundai automatic transaxle
has four forwards speeds and one reverse speed. The individual speeds are selected au-tomatically, depending on the position of thespeed selector lever. The selector lever has 2gates; the main gate and the manual gate.
NOTE: For information on manual gate operation,
refer to "Sports Mode".
In the main gate, the selector lever has 4
positions, and is equipped with a button to avoid inadvertent wrong selection.
NOTE: Depress the brake pedal and push the
button when shifting.
Push the button when shifting. The selector lever can be shifted freely.

Sports Mode

Whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion, sports mode is selected by pushing the selectorlever from the "D" position into the manual gate.To return to "D" range operation, push theselector lever back into the main gate. In sports mode, moving the selector lever back- wards and forwards can make rapid gearshiftssimple. In contrast to a manual transaxle, thesports mode allows gearshifts with the accel-erator pedal depressed. UP (+) : Push the lever forward once to shift up
one gear.DOWN (-) : Pull the lever backwards once to
shift down one gear.

o D(Drive):
Use for normal driving. The transaxle will auto-
matically shift through a four gear sequence.

NOTE:
o For smooth and safe operation, depress the brake pedal when shifting from "Neu- tral" position or "Park" position to a for-ward or reverse gear.
o The ignition key must be in the "ON" position and the brake pedal fully de-pressed in order to move the shift leverfrom the "P" (Park) position to any of theother positions.
o It is always possible to shift from "R", "N", "D" position to "P" position. Thevehicle must be fully stopped to avoidtransaxle damage.
CAUTION:
o In sports mode, the driver must execute shifts in accordance with prevailing roadconditions, taking care to keep the en-gine speed below the red zone.
o For engine protection, upward shifts are made automatically when the engine rpmreaches the red zone.
o By rapidly moving the selector lever back- wards (-) twice it is possible to skip onegear by using the sports mode. Sincesudden engine braking and/or rapid ac-celeration can cause a loss of traction,however, downshifts must be made care-fully in accordance with the vehicle'sspeed.
NOTE:
o In sports mode, only the four forward gears can be selected. To reverse or parkthe vehicle, move the selector lever tothe "R" or "P" position as required.
o In sports mode, downward shifts are made automatically when the vehicleslows down. When the vehicle stops, 1stgear is automatically selected.
o To maintain the required levels of vehicle performance and safety, the system maynot execute certain gearshifts when theselector lever is operated. o Before driving away from a stop on a
slippery road, push the selector leverforward into the +(UP) position. Thiscauses the transaxle to shift into 2ndgear which is better for smooth drivingaway on a slippery road. Push the selec-tor lever to the -(DOWN) side to shiftback to 1st gear.
