Changing tires Follow these steps to change your
vehicle’s tire:
1. Park on a level, firm surface.
2. Move the shift lever into P (Park,for automatic transaxle vehicle) or
neutral (for manual transaxle
vehicle), apply the parking brake,
and place the ignition switch in the
LOCK/OFF position.
3. Press the hazard warning flasher button.
4. Remove the wheel lug nut wrench, jack, jack handle, and spare tire
from the vehicle.
5. Block both the front and rear of the tire diagonally opposite of the tire
you are changing.
A vehicle can slip or roll off of a
jack causing serious injury or
death to you or those nearby.
Take the following safety precau
tions:
•Do not get under a vehicle that
is supported by a jack.
•NEVER attempt to change a tire
in the lane of traffic. ALWAYS
move the vehicle completely off
the road on level, firm ground
away from traffic before trying to
change a tire. If you cannot find
a level, firm place off the road,
call a towing service for assis
tance.
•Be sure to use the jack provided
with the vehicle.

•ALWAYS place the jack on the
designated jacking positions on
the vehicle and NEVER on the
bumpers or any other part of the
vehicle for jacking support.
•Do not start or run the engine
while the vehicle is on the jack.
•Do not allow anyone to remain
in the vehicle while it is on the
jack.
•Keep children away from the
road and the vehicle.

•Do not put heavy objects or apply
excessive force on top of the
engine cover (if equipped) or fuel
related parts.
•When you inspect the fuel system
(fuel lines and fuel injection
devices), we recommend that you
contact an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.
•Do not drive long time with
the engine cover (if equipped)
removed.
•When checking the engine room,
do not go near fire. Fuel, washer
fluid, etc. are flammable oils that
may cause fire.
•Before touching the battery, igni
tion cables and electrical wiring,
you should disconnect the battery
"" terminal. You may get an elec
tric shock from the electric current.

•Performing maintenance work

while performing some mainte

equipment to do the work, we

•Working under the hood with the
engine running is dangerous. It
becomes even more dangerous
when you wear jewelry or loose
clothing. These can become
entangled in moving parts and
result in injury.

Therefore, if you must run the
engine while working under the
hood, make certain that you
remove all jewelry (especially
rings, bracelets, watches, and
necklaces) and all neckties,
scarves, and similar loose cloth
ing before getting near the engine
or cooling fans.
Do not leave gloves, rags or any
other combustible material in the
engine compartment. Doing so
may cause a heatinduced fire.

Diesel Engine
Never work on injection system
with engine running or within 30
seconds after shutting off engine.
Highpressure pump, rail, injectors
and highpressure pipes are sub
ject to high pressure even after
the engine stopped. The fuel jet
produced by fuel leaks may cause
serious injury, if it touches the
body. People using pacemakers
should not move more than 30cm
closer to the ECU or wiring har
ness within the engine room while
engine is running, since the high
currents in the electronic engine
control system produce consider
able magnetic fields.

•When you remove the interior trim
cover with a flat head () driver, be
careful not to damage the cover.
•Be careful when you replace and
clean bulbs to avoid burns or elec
trical shock.

OWNER MAINTENANCE
The following lists are vehicle checks
and inspections that should be per
formed at the frequencies indicated
to help ensure safe, dependable
operation of your vehicle.
Any adverse conditions should be
brought to the attention of your deal
er as soon as possible.
These Owner Maintenance Checks
are generally not covered by war
ranties and you may be charged for
labor, parts and lubricants used. Owner maintenance schedule
When you stop for fuel:
• Check the engine oil level.
• Check the coolant level in coolantreservoir.
• Check the windshield washer fluid level.
• Look for low or underinflated tires.
• Check the radiator and condenser. Check if the front of the radiator
and condenser are clean and not
blocked with leaves, dirt or insectsetc.
If any of the above par ts areextremely dirty or you are not sure
of their condition, we recommend
that you contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
While operating your vehicle:
• Note any changes in the sound of the exhaust or any smell of
exhaust fumes in the vehicle.
• Check for vibrations in the steering wheel. Notice any increased steer
ing effort or looseness in the steer
ing wheel, or change in its straight
ahead position.
• Notice if your vehicle constantly turns slightly or "pulls" to one side
when traveling on smooth, levelroad.
• When stopping, listen and check for unusual sounds, pulling to one
side, increased brake pedal travel
or "hardtopush" brake pedal.
• If any slipping or changes in the operation of your transaxle occurs,
check the transaxle fluid level.
• Check automatic transaxle P (Park) function.
• Check the parking brake.
• Check for fluid leaks under your vehicle (water dripping from the air
conditioning system during or after
use is normal).
Be careful when checking your
engine coolant level when the
engine is hot. Scalding hot coolant
and steam may blow out under
pressure. This could cause burns
or other serious injury.

At least monthly:
• Check the coolant level in theengine coolant reservoir.
• Check the operation of all exterior lights, including the stoplights, turn
signals and hazard warning flash
ers.
• Check the inflation pressures of all tires including the spare.
At least twice a year
(i.e., every Spring and Fall):
• Check the radiator, heater and airconditioning hoses for leaks or
damage.
• Check the windshield washer spray and wiper operation. Clean
wiper blades with clean cloth
dampened with washer fluid.
• Check the headlight alignment.
• Check the muffler, exhaust pipes, shields and clamps.
• Check the lap/shoulder belts for wear and function.
• Check for worn tires and loose wheel lug nuts.
At least once a year:
• Clean the body and door drainholes.
• Lubricate the door hinges and checks, and hood hinges.
• Lubricate the door and hood locks and latches.
• Lubricate the door rubber weather strips.
• Check the air conditioning system.
• Inspect and lubricate automatic transaxle linkage and controls.
• Clean the battery and terminals.
• Check the brake/clutch fluid level.
