!WARNING:
To minimize risk of severe injury in the event of a collision or a sudden stop, both the driver and passen-ger seatbacks should always be in an upright position while the ve- hicle is in motion. The protectionprovided by the seat belts and airbags in a frontal collision may be reduced significantly when the seatbacks are reclined. There is greater risk that the driver and pas-senger will slide under the seat belt which may result in serious injury if a crash occurs when the seatbacksare reclined. The seat belt cannot provide full protection to an occu- pant if the seat back is reclined.
To recline the seatback, lean forward to take your weight off it, then pull up on the recliner control lever at theoutside edge of the seat. Now lean back until the desired seatback angle B080C01E

The pre-tensioner seat belt operates in a similar way as an Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) type of seat belt. When the vehicle stops suddenly, or if the occupant tries to lean forward too quickly, the seat belt retractor willlock into position. In certain frontal collisions, the pre-tensioner will acti- vate and pull the seat belt into tightercontact against the occupant's body. HXG229

o Improper handling of the pre-
tensioner seat belt assemblies, and failure to heed the warnings to not strike, modify, inspect, re-place, service or repair the pre- tensioner seat belt assemblies may lead to improper operationor inadvertent activation and se- rious injury.
o Always wear seat belts when driv-
ing or riding in a motor vehicle.!CAUTION:
o Because the sensor that activates the SRS airbag is connected with the pre-tensioner seat belt, theSRS airbag warning light on the instrument panel will blink for approximately 6 seconds af-ter the ignition key has been turned to the "ON" position, and then it should turn off.
o If the pre-tensioner seat belt is not working properly, this warn-ing light will illuminate even ifthere is no malfunction of the SRS airbag system . If the SRS airbag warning light does notilluminate when the ignition key is turned to "ON" or if it remains illuminated after blinking for ap-proximately 6 seconds, or if it illuminates while the vehicle is being driven, please have an au-thorized Hyundai dealer inspect the pre-tensioner seat belts and SRS airbag system as soon aspossible.!

37SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT (AIRBAG) SYSTEM
B240A03F-GAT (If installed)
Your Hyundai is equipped with a Supplemental Restraint (Airbag) Sys- tem. The indications of the system'spresence are the letters "SRS AIR BAG" embossed on the airbag pad cover in the steering wheel and thepassenger's side front panel pad above the glove box. The Hyundai SRS consists of airbags installed under the pad covers in the center of the steering wheel and thepassenger's side front panel above the glove box. The purpose of the SRS is to provide the vehicle's driver and/or B240A01E

the front passenger with additional pro- tection than that offered by the seatbelt system alone, in case of a frontal impact of sufficient severity. NOTE: Be sure to read information about the SRS on the labels provided on the backside of the sun visor and in the glove box.
WARNING:
o As its name implies, the SRS is designed to work with, and besupplemental to, the driver's and the passenger's three point seat belt systems and is not a substi-tute for them. Therefore your seat belts must be worn at all times while the vehicle is in motion. Inaddition, the airbags deploy only in certain frontal impact condi- tions severe enough to causesignificant injury to the vehicle occupants.o The SRS is designed to deploythe airbags only when an impact is sufficiently severe and when the impact angle is less than 30°from the forward longitudinal axis of the vehicle and will not deploy in side, rear or rollover impacts.Additionally, the airbags will only deploy once. Thus, seat belts must be worn at all times.

Rear impact
Side Impact Rollover
o Front airbags are not intended to deploy in side-impact, rear-im-pact or rollover crashes. In addi- tion, airbags will not deploy in frontal crashes below the deploy-ment threshold speed.

!WARNING:
The Passenger Presence Detection system is not intended to prevent airbag deployment while a child is in the front passenger's seat. It isintended only as a means to reduce unnecessary collision damage re- pair expense by preventing airbagand seat belt pretensioner deploy- ment when the right front passen- ger seat is unoccupied. Deploymentis still possible if only a few pounds are placed upon the seat. There- fore, children must not be trans-ported in the front seat. All children must be seated in the rear seat and properly restrained with thevehicle's restraint system or a child restraint system appropriate for the child's size and weight.
B990A04Y-GAT PASSENGER PRESENCE DETECTION (If installed) The passenger presence detection system detects the presence of a pas-senger in the right front seat. If no passenger is recognized on the front passenger seat, the deployment of thefront passenger and/or side airbag and seat belt pretensioner will be prevented. This system is designed to prevent thereplacement of airbag components that deploy needlessly in an accident. NOTE: Luggage or other cargo heavier than 15 kg should not be placed on the passenger front seat. This can al- low the deployment of the frontpassenger and/or side air bag in the case of an accident.
B990B04Y-GAT Side Impact Airbag (If installed)
Your Hyundai is equipped with a side Impact airbag in each front seat. The purpose of the airbag is to provide the vehicle's driver and/or the front pas-senger with additional protection than that offered by the seat belt alone. The side impact airbags are designed todeploy only during certain side impact collisions, depending on the crash se- verity, angle, speed and point of im-pact. The side Impact airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impact situations. B990B02Y

ABS Service Reminder Indicator (SRI)(If installed)
When the key is turned to the "ON" position, the Anti-Lock Brake System SRI will come on and then go off afterthree seconds. If the ABS SRI remains on, comes on while driving, or does not come on when the key is turned to the"ON" position, this indicates that there may be a problem with the ABS. If this occurs, have your vehiclechecked by your Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. The normal braking system will still be operational, butwithout the assistance of the anti-lock brake system.B260B01S-GAT SRS (Airbag) Service Reminder Indicator (SRI)(If installed)
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) comes on and flashes for about 6 seconds after the ignition key isturned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, after which it will go out. This light also comes on when the SRS is not working properly. If the SRI doesnot come on, or continuously remains on after flashing for about 6 seconds when you turned the ignition key to the"ON" position or started the engine, or if it comes on while driving, have the SRS inspected by an authorizedHyundai Dealer.
WARNING:
If the both ABS SRI and ParkingBrake/Brake fluid level warninglights remain "ON" or come on while driving, there may be a problem with E.B.D. (Electronic Brake ForceDistribution). B260C01A-AAT

When the overdrive switch is turned on, the overdrive off indicator will go out. This amber indicator will be illumi-nated when the overdrive switch is turned off. (1.6L Auto T/A only) B260D01A-AAT Turn Signal Indicator Lights
The blinking green arrows on the in- strument panel show the direction indi-cated by the turn signals. If the arrow comes on but does not blink, blinks more rapidly than normal, or does notilluminate at all, a malfunction in the turn signal system is indicated. Your dealer should be consulted for repairs.
WARNING AND INDICATOR LIGHTS
If this occurs, avoid sudden stops and have your vehicle checked by your Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.
