To turn off the engine, stop the vehicle and
then press the Engine Start/Stop button.

ACC Press the Engine Start/Stop button when
the button is in the OFF position without
depressing the clutch pedal.
Electrical accessories are usable. If you leave the Engine Start/Stop button in the
ACC position for more than one hour, the bat-
tery power will turn off automatically to prevent
the battery from discharging.

When you press the Engine Start/Stop but-
ton without the shift lever in P (Park), the
Engine Start/Stop button does not turn to

✽NOTICE
• The engine will start by pressing
the Engine Start/Stop button, only
when the smart key is in the vehi-
cle.
• Even if the smart key is in the vehicle, if it is far away from the
driver, the engine may not start.
• When the Engine Start/Stop but- ton is in the ACC or ON position,
if any door is open, the system
checks for the smart key. If the
smart key is not in the vehicle, the
" " indicator will blink, and if
all doors are closed, the chime will
also sound for about 5 seconds.
The indicator will turn off while
the vehicle is moving. Keep the
smart key in the vehicle when
using the ACC position or if the
vehicle engine is ON.
Vehicle with manual transaxle:
1.Always carry the smart key with
you.
2.Make sure the parking brake is applied.
3.Make sure the shift lever is in neu- tral.
4.Depress the clutch and brake ped- als.
5.Press the Engine Start/Stop but- ton.
WARNING
Always wear appropriateshoes when operating your
vehicle. Unsuitable shoes,
such as high heels, ski boots,
sandals, flip-flops, etc., may
interfere with your ability to
use the brake, accelerator and
clutch pedals.
Do not start the vehicle with the accelerator pedal depressed.
The vehicle can move and lead
to an accident.
Wait until the engine rpm is normal. The vehicle may sud-
denly move if the brake pedal
is released when the rpm is
high.

Vehicle with automatic transaxle:
1.Always carry the smart key with
you.
2.Make sure the parking brake is applied.
3.Make sure the shift lever is in P (Park).
4.Depress the brake pedal.

✽ ✽ NOTICE
• Do not wait for the engine to warm
up while the vehicle remains sta-
tionary.
Start driving at moderate engine
speeds. (Steep accelerating and
decelerating should be avoided.)
• Always start the vehicle with your foot on the brake pedal. Do not
depress the accelerator while
starting the vehicle. Do not race
the engine while warming it up.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the vehi-
cle:
If the engine stalls while you are in motion, do not attemptto move the shift lever to the P(Park) position.
If traffic and road conditionspermit, you may put the shiftlever in the N (Neutral) posi-tion while the vehicle is stillmoving and press the EngineStart/Stop button in anattempt to restart the engine.
Do not push or tow your vehi- cle to start the engine.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the vehi-cle:
Do not press the EngineStart/Stop button for more than10 seconds except when thestop lamp fuse is blown.
When the stop lamp fuse isblown, you can't start the enginenormally. Replace the fuse witha new one. If you are not able toreplace the fuse, you can startthe engine by pressing andholding the Engine Start/Stopbutton for 10 seconds with theEngine Start/Stop button in theACC position.
For your safety always depressthe brake and/or clutch pedalbefore starting the engine.

Using the clutch
The clutch pedal should be
depressed all the way to the floor
before:
- Starting the engine The engine will not start without
depressing the clutch pedal.
- Shifting
When releasing the clutch pedal,
release it slowly. The clutch pedal
should always be released while
driving.
Downshifting
Downshift when you must slow down
in heavy traffic or drive up a steep hill
to prevent engine load.
Also, downshifting reduces the
chance of stalling and can accelerate
when you need to increase your
speed again.
When the vehicle is going downhill,
downshifting helps maintain safe
speed by providing brake power from
the engine and enables less wear on
the brakes.CAUTION
To prevent unnecessary wear or damage to the clutch:
Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal while driving.
Do not hold the vehicle with the clutch on an incline, whilewaiting for the traffic light, etc.
Always depress the clutch pedal down fully to preventnoise or damage.
Do not start with the 2nd (sec- ond) gear engaged exceptwhen you start on a slipperyroad.

N (Neutral)
The wheels and transaxle are not
engaged.
Use N (Neutral) if you need to restart
a stalled engine. Shift into P (Park) if
you need to leave your vehicle for
any reason.
Always depress the brake pedal
when you are shifting from N
(Neutral) to another gear.
D (Drive)
This is the normal driving position.
The transaxle will automatically shift
through a 6-gear sequence, provid-
ing the best fuel economy and
power.
For extra power when passing anoth-
er vehicle or driving uphill, depress
the accelerator fully. The transaxle
will automatically downshift to the
next lower gear (or gears, as appro-
priate).
Sports mode
Whether the vehicle is stationary or
in motion, sports mode is selected by
pushing the shift lever from the D
(Drive) position into the manual gate.
To return to D (Drive) range opera-
tion, push the shift lever back into the
main gate.
WARNING
Do not shift into gear unless
your foot is firmly on the
brake pedal. Shifting into gear
when the engine is running at
high speed can cause the
vehicle to move very rapidly.
You could lose control of the
vehicle.
Do not drive with the shift lever in N (Neutral). The
engine brake will not work
and lead to an accident.OMD054012

In Sports Mode, moving the shift
lever backwards and forwards will
allow you to select the desired range
of gears for the current driving condi-
tions.
+ (Up) : Push the lever forward onceto shift up one gear.
- (Down) : Pull the lever backwards once to shift down one
gear.
✽ ✽NOTICE
• Only the six forward gears can be
selected. To reverse or park the
vehicle, move the shift lever to the
R (Reverse) or P (Park) position as
required.
• Downshifts are made automatical- ly when the vehicle slows down.
When the vehicle stops, 1st gear is
automatically selected.
• When the engine rpm approaches the red zone the transaxle will
upshift automatically. (Continued)(Continued)
• If the driver presses the lever to
+ (Up) or - (Down) position, the
transaxle may not make the
requested gear change if the next
gear is outside of the allowable
engine rpm range. The driver
must execute upshifts in accor-
dance with road conditions, taking
care to keep the engine rpms
below the red zone.
• When accelerating from a stop on a slippery road, push the shift
lever forward into the + (Up) posi-
tion. This causes the transaxle to
shift into the 2nd gear which is
better for smooth driving on a
slippery road. Push the shift lever
to the - (Down) side to shift back to
the 1st gear.
Shift-lock system
For your safety, the automatic
transaxle has a shift-lock system
which prevents shifting the transaxle
from P (Park) into R (Reverse)
unless the brake pedal is depressed.
To shift the transaxle from P (Park)
into R (Reverse):
1.Depress and hold the brake pedal.
2.Start the engine or place the igni-
tion switch in the ON position.
3.Move the shift lever.
