SRS (Airbag) Service Re
minder Indicator (SRI)
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) comes on and flashes for about 6 seconds after the ignition key isturned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, after which it will go out. This light also comes on when the SRS is not working properly. If the SRI doesnot flash, or continuously remains on after flashing for about 6 seconds when you turned the ignition key to the "ON"position or started the engine, or if it comes on while driving, have the SRS inspected by an authorisedHyundai Dealer. B260C01A-AAT
O/D OFF Indicator (Automatic transaxle
only) (If Installed)
When the overdrive switch is turned on, the overdrive off indicator will go out. This amber indicator will be illumi-nated when the overdrive switch is turned off. B260D01A-AAT Turn Signal Indicator Lights
The blinking green arrows on the in- strument panel show the direction indi-cated by the turn signals. If the arrow comes on but does not blink, blinks more rapidly than normal, or does notilluminate at all, a malfunction in the turn signal system is indicated. Your dealer should be consulted for repairs.B260P02Y-GAT ABS Service Reminder Indicator (SRI)(If Installed)
When the key is turned to the "ON" position, the Anti-Lock Brake System will come on and then go off in a fewseconds. If the ABS SRI remains on, comes on while driving, or does not come on when the key is turned to the"ON" position, this indicates that there may be a problem with the ABS. If this occurs, have your vehiclechecked by your Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. The normal braking system will still be operational, butwithout the assistance of the anti-lock brake system.
WARNING:
If both ABS SRI and Parking Brake/ Brake fluid level warning lights re-main "ON" or come on while driv- ing, there may be a problem with E.B.D (Electronic Brake Force Dis-tribution). If this occurs, avoid sudden stops and have your vehicle checked byyour Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.
B260F01A-AAT High Beam Indicator Light
The high beam indicator light comes on whenever the headlights are switched to the high beam or flash position.

2- 12 DRIVING YOUR HYUNDAI
!WARNING:
Your ABS (ESP) will not prevent accidents due to improper or dan- gerous driving maneuvers. Eventhough vehicle control is improvedduring emergency braking, alwaysmaintain a safe distance betweenyou and objects ahead. Vehicle speeds should always be reduced during extreme road conditions. The braking distance for carsequipped with an anti-lock brakingsystem may be longer than for thosewithout it in the following road con- ditions.
o Driving on rough, gravel or snow- covered roads.
o Driving with tyre chains installed.
o Driving on roads where the road surface is pitted or has different surface height.
These roads should be driven at reduced speeds. The safety features of an ABS (ESP) equipped vehicleshould not be tested by high speeddriving or cornering. This could en-danger the safety of yourself or oth-ers.
C120A03A-DAT ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (If installed) The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-up during sudden braking or on hazard-ous road surfaces. The ABS control module monitors the wheel speed and controls the pressure applied to eachbrake. Thus, in emergency situations or on slick roads, your ABS will in- crease vehicle control during braking. NOTE:
o A click sound may be heard in the
engine compartment when the ve- hicle begins to move after the en-gine is started. These conditionsare normal and indicate that the anti-lock brake system (Electronic Stability Program) is functioningproperly.
o During ABS (ESP) operation, a slight pulsation may be felt in thebrake pedal when the brakes are applied. Also, a noise may be heard in the engine compartment whiledriving. These conditions are nor-mal and indicate that the anti-lockbrake system (ESP) is functioning properly.
o Use caution when parking on a hill.
Engage the hand brake and place the gear selector lever in "P" (automatic transaxle) or in first or reverse gear (manual transaxle). If your car is facing downhill, turn the front wheels into the curb to help keep the car from rolling. If your car is facing uphill, turn the front wheels away from the curb to help keep the car from rolling. If there is no curb or if it is required by other conditions to keep the car from rolling, block the wheels.
o Under some conditions your hand brake can freeze in the engaged position. This is most likely to hap- pen when there is an accumulation of snow or ice around or near the rear brakes or if the brakes are wet. If there is a risk that the hand brake may freeze, apply it only temporarily while you put the gear selector lever in "P" (automatic) or in first or re- verse gear (manual transaxle) and block the rear wheels so the car cannot roll. Then release the hand brake.
o Do not hold the vehicle on the up- grade with the accelerator pedal. This can cause the transmission to over- heat. Always use the brake pedal or hand brake.

4- 4 CORROSION PREVENTION AND APPEARANCE CARE
trol chemicals are used, you should pay particular attention to the underside of the car. Start by rinsing the car toremove dust and loose dirt. In winter, or if you have driven through mud or muddy water, be sure to thoroughly clean theunderside as well. Use a hard direct stream of water to remove accumu- lated mud or corrosive materials.High pressure car washes may cause water to enter your vehicle. Use a good quality car-washing solution and followthe manufacturer's directions on the package. These are available at your Hyundaidealer or auto parts outlet. Don't use strong household detergents, petrol, strong solvents or abrasive cleaningpowders as these may damage the finish. Use a clean lambs wool mitt or a cloth, rinse it frequently and don't damage the finish by rubbing too hard. For stubborn spots, dampen them frequently andremove them a little at a time. To clean whitewall tyres, use a stiff brush or soap-impregnated steel-woolscouring pad. To clean plastic wheel covers, use a clean sponge or soft cloth and water. To clean cast aluminum alloy wheels, use a mild soap or neutral detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Protectthe bare-metal surfaces by cleaning, polishing and waxing. Because alumi- num is subject to corrosion, be sure togive aluminum alloy wheels special attention in winter. If you drive on salted roads, clean the wheels thor-oughly afterwards. After washing, be sure to rinse thor- oughly. If soapy water dries on the finish, streaking will result. When the weather is warm and the humidity low, you may find it neces- sary to rinse each section immediatelyafter washing to avoid streaking. After rinsing, dry the car using a damp chamois or soft, absorbent cloth. The reason for drying the car is to remove water from the car so it will dry withoutwater spots. Don't rub, this can dam- age the finish. If you find any nicks or scratches in thepaint, use touch-up paint to cover them to prevent corrosion. To protect thepaintwork of the car against corrosion, you must clean your Hyundai (at least once a month). Give special attentionto the removal of salt, mud and other substances on the underside of the splashboards of the car. Make surethat the outlets and the underside of the doors are open. Paint damage can be caused by small accumulation oftar, industrial precipitation, tree resin, insects and bird droppings, when not removed immediately. If water alone isnot strong enough to remove the accu- mulated dirt, use a mild car washing solution. Be sure to rinse the surfaceafter washing to remove the solution. Never allow the solution to dry on the painted surfaces.
