Your Hyundai is equipped with an
emission control system to meet all requirements of the Emission prohibi- tion rules of your province.
In order to assure the proper function
of the emission control systems, it is recommended that you have your car inspected and maintained by an au-thorized Hyundai dealer in accordance with the maintenance schedule in this manual. CATALYTIC CONVERTER
!WARNING:
The exhaust system and catalytic system are very hot while the en-gine is running or immediately after the engine is turned off. Keep away from the exhaust system and cata-lytic, you may get burned.Also, do not remove the heat sinkaround the exhaust system, do notseal the bottom of the vehicle or do not coat the vehicle for corrosion control. It may present a fire riskunder certain conditions.
Exhaust emission control systemThe Exhaust Emission Control Sys-tem is a highly effective system whichcontrols exhaust emissions while main- taining good vehicle performance. Vehicle modifications This vehicle should not be modified.
Modification of your vehicle could af- fect its performance, safety or durabil- ity and may even violate governmentalsafety and emissions regulations.
In addition, damage or performance
problems resulting from any modifica- tion may not be covered under war- ranty.
o If you use unauthorized electronic
devices, it may cause the vehicle tooperate abnormally, wire damage, battery discharge or fire. For your safety, do not use unauthorized elec- tronic devices.

Hyundai vehicle is equipped with oxi- dation type catalytic converter to re- duce the carbon monoxide, hydrocar- bons and particulates contained in theexhaust gas. H020A01HR
Catalytic Converter
!WARNING:
o Use diesel only.
o Maintain the engine in good operating condition. Extremely high catalytic converter tempera-tures can result from improper operation of the electrical, igni- tion or electronic fuel injection.
o If your engine stalls, pings, or is hard to start, have your Hyundaidealer inspect and repair theproblem as soon as possible.
o Avoid driving with a very low
fuel level. Running out of diesel may cause the engine to stop and result in damage to the cata-lytic converter.
o Avoid idling the engine for peri- ods longer than 10 minutes.
o The vehicle should not be pushed or pulled to get started.This may cause the catalytic converter to overheat and cre- ate a fire hazard. o Do not touch the catalytic con-
verter or any other part of theexhaust system while the cata- lytic converter is hot. Shut off the engine, wait for at least onehour before touching the cata- lytic converter or any other part of the exhaust system.
o Remember that your Hyundai dealer is your best source ofassistance.
o Do not park, idle or drive your
vehicle over any combustible ma- terial such as grass, paper, leaves or rags. These materials mightcontact the hot catalytic converter and a fire might result.

I020A01A-AAT TIRE INFORMATION The tires supplied on your new Hyundai are chosen to provide the best perfor-mance for normal driving. I030A01HR-GAT RECOMMENDED INFLATION PRESSURES The tire label located on the driver's side of the center pillar outer panel gives the tire pressures recommendedfor your car. These pressures were chosen to pro-vide the most satisfactory combination of ride comfort, tire wear and stability under normal conditions. Tire pres- sures should be checked at least monthly. Proper tire inflation pressuresshould be maintained for these rea- sons:
o Lower-than-recommended tire pres-
sures cause uneven tread wear and poor handling.
o Higher-than-recommended tire pressures increase the chance ofdamage from impacts and causeuneven tread wear.
I030A01HR CAUTION:
Always observe the following:
o Check pressures when the tires are cold. That is, after the car has been parked for at least threehours and hasn't been driven more than 1.6 km or one mile since starting up.
o Check the pressure of your spare tire each time you check the pres-sure of other tires.
