What to do in an emergency36
6Emergency towingIf towing is necessary, we recommend
you to have it done by a HYUNDAI
authorised repairer or a commercial
tow truck service. If towing service is not available in an
emergency, your vehicle may be tem-
porarily towed using a cable or chain
secured to the emergency towing hook
under the front (or rear) of the vehicle.
Use extreme caution when towing the
vehicle. A driver must be in the vehicle to
steer it and operate the brakes.
Towing in this manner may be done only
on hard-surfaced roads for a short dis-
tance and at low speed. Also, the wheels,
axles, power train, steering and brakes
must all be in good condition.
Do not use the towing hooks to pull a
vehicle out of mud, sand or other con-
ditions from which the vehicle cannot
be driven out under its own power.
Avoid towing a vehicle heavier than the vehicle doing the towing.
The drivers of both vehicles should communicate with each other frequent-
ly. Before emergency towing, check that
the hook is not broken or damaged.
Fasten the towing cable or chain securely to the hook.
Do not jerk the hook. Apply steady and even force.
To avoid damaging the hook, do not pull from the side or at a vertical angle.
Always pull straight ahead.
CAUTION
Attach a towing strap to the tow hook.
Using a portion of the vehicle other than the tow hooks for tow-ing may damage the body of yourvehicle.
Use only a cable or chain specifi- cally intended for use in towingvehicles. Securely fasten thecable or chain to the towing hook provided.

What to do in an emergency
Use a towing strap less than 16 feet (5m) long. Attach a white or red cloth
(about 12 inches (30 cm) wide) in the
middle of the strap for easy visibility.
Drive carefully so that the towing strap is not loosened during towing.
Emergency towing precautions Turn the ignition switch to ACC so thesteering wheel isn’t locked.
Place the transaxle shift lever in N (Neutral).
Release the parking brake.
Press the brake pedal with more force than normal since you will have
reduced brake performance.
More steering effort will be required because the power steering system
will be disabled.
If you are driving down a long hill, the brakes may overheat and brake per-
formance will be reduced. Stop often
and let the brakes cool off.
WARNING
Use extreme caution when towing
the vehicle.
Avoid sudden starts or erratic driving manoeuvres which would
place excessive stress on the
emergency towing hook and tow-
ing cable or chain. The hook and
towing cable or chain may break
and cause serious injury or dam-
age.
If the disabled vehicle is unable to be moved, do not forcibly con-
tinue the towing. Contact a
HYUNDAI authorised repairer or a
commercial tow truck service for
assistance.
Tow the vehicle as straight ahead as possible.
Keep away from the vehicle dur- ing towing.

CAUTION - Automatictransaxle
If the car is being towed with all
four wheels on the ground, it canbe towed only from the front. Besure that the transaxle is in neu-tral. Be sure the steering is unlocked by placing the ignitionswitch in the ACC position. Adriver must be in the towed vehi- cle to operate the steering andbrakes.
To avoid serious damage to the automatic transaxle, limit thevehicle speed to 10 mph (15 km/h) and drive less than 1 mile (1.5km) when towing.
Before towing, check the auto- matic transaxle fluid leak underyour vehicle. If the automatic transaxle fluid is leaking, aflatbed equipment or towing dollymust be used.

TYRES AND WHEELS Tyre care
For proper maintenance, safety, and
maximum fuel economy, you must
always maintain recommended tyre
inflation pressures and stay within
the load limits and weight distribution
recommended for your vehicle.
Recommended cold tyre inflation
pressures
All tyre pressures (including the
spare) should be checked when the
tyres are cold. “Cold Tyres” means
the vehicle has not been driven for at
least three hours or driven less than
1 mile (1.6 km).
Recommended pressures must be
maintained for the best ride, top vehi-
cle handling, and minimum tyre
wear.
For recommended inflation pressure
refer to “Tyre and wheels” in section
8.All specifications (sizes and pres-
sures) can be found on a label
attached to the vehicle.
WARNING - Tyre underin-
flation
Severe underinflation (10 psi
(0.7 bar) or more) can lead to
severe heat build-up, causing
blowouts, tread separation and
other tyre failures that can
result in the loss of vehicle con-
trol leading to severe injury or
death. This risk is much higher
on hot days and when driving
for long periods at high speeds.

WARNING - Tyre inflation
Overinflation or underinflation
can reduce tyre life, adversely
affect vehicle handling, and
lead to sudden tyre failure. This
could result in loss of vehicle
control and potential injury.
CAUTION - Tyre pressure
Always observe the following:
Check tyre pressure when the tyres are cold. (After vehiclehas been parked for at leastthree hours or hasn't beendriven more than 1 mile (1.6km) since startup.)
Check the pressure of your spare tyre each time youcheck the pressure of othertyres.
Never overload your vehicle. Be careful not to overload avehicle luggage rack if yourvehicle is equipped with one.
Worn, old tyres can cause accidents. If your tread isbadly worn, or if your tyreshave been damaged, replacethem.
CAUTION
Underinflation also results in excessive wear, poor handlingand reduced fuel economy.Wheel deformation also ispossible. Keep your tyre pres-sures at the proper levels. If atyre frequently needs refilling,we recommend that the sys-tem be checked by a HYUNDAIauthorised repairer.
Overinflation produces a harsh ride, excessive wear atthe centre of the tyre tread, and a greater possibility ofdamage from road hazards.
CAUTION
Warm tyres normally exceed recommended cold tyre pres-sures by 4 to 6 psi (0.28 to 0.41bar). Do not release air fromwarm tyres to adjust the pres-sure or the tyres will be under-inflated.
Be sure to reinstall the tyre inflation valve caps. Withoutthe valve cap, dirt or moisturecould get into the valve coreand cause air leakage. If avalve cap is missing, install anew one as soon as possible.

Maintenance
Wheel replacement
When replacing the metal wheels for
any reason, make sure the new
wheels are equivalent to the original
factory units in diameter, rim width
and offset.Tyre traction
Tyre traction can be reduced if you
drive on worn tyres, tyres that are
improperly inflated or on slippery
road surfaces. Tyres should be
replaced when tread wear indicators
appear. To reduce the possibility of
losing control, slow down whenever
there is rain, snow or ice on the road.
Tyre maintenance
In addition to proper inflation, correct
wheel alignment helps to decrease
tyre wear. If you find a tyre is worn
unevenly, have your dealer check the
wheel alignment.
When you have new tyres installed,
make sure they are balanced. This
will increase vehicle ride comfort and
tyre life. Additionally, a tyre should
always be rebalanced if it is removed
from the wheel.Tyre sidewall labeling
This information identifies and
describes the fundamental charac-
teristics of the tyre and also provides
the tyre identification number (TIN)
for safety standard certification. The
TIN can be used to identify the tyre in
case of a recall.

Low aspect ratio tyre (if equipped)
Low aspect ratio tyres, whose aspect
ratio is lower than 50, are provided
for sporty looks.
Because the low aspect ratio tyres
are optimized for handling and brak-
ing, it may be more uncomfortable to
ride in and there is more noise com-
pare with normal tyres.
CAUTION
Because the sidewall of the lowaspect ratio tyre is shorter thanthe normal, the wheel and tyreof the low aspect ratio tyre iseasier to be damaged. So, followthe instructions below.
- When driving on a rough road or off road, drive cautiouslybecause tyres and wheels maybe damaged. And after driving, inspect tyres and wheels.
- When passing over a pothole, speed bump, manhole, or kerbstone, drive slowly so that thetyres and wheels are not dam-aged.
- If the tyre is impacted, we rec- ommend that you inspect thetyre condition or contact aHYUNDAI authorised repairer.
- To prevent damage to the tyre, inspect the tyre condition andpressure every 1,800 miles(3,000 km).
CAUTION
It is not easy to recognize the tyre damage with your owneyes. But if there is the slight-est hint of tyre damage, eventhough you cannot see thetyre damage with your owneyes, have the tyre checked orreplaced because the tyredamage may cause air leak-age from the tyre.
If the tyre is damaged by driv- ing on a rough road, off road, pothole, manhole, or kerbstone, it will not be covered bythe warranty.
You can find out the tyre infor- mation on the tyre sidewall.
