This will releasethe seat on its track so you can move it forwardor rearward to the desired position. To adjust the lumbar support, turn the handle on the outboard or left side of the seat. Toincrease the amount of lumbar support, pull thelever forward. To decrease it, push the levertoward the rear.

rests removed as severe injury to anoccupant may occur in the event of anaccident. Headrests may provide protec-tion against severe neck injuries whenproperly adjusted.

To move the seat toward the front or rear, pull the lock release lever upward. This will releasethe seat on its track so you can move it forwardor rearward to the desired position. When youfind the position you want, release the lever andslide the seat forward or rearward on its trackuntil it locks into the desired position and can-not be moved further.

under the seat cushion to the headrest stay of front driver and passenger seat.
6. Insert the removed headrests between the seatback and seat cushion, so that they willnot be thrown forward in the case of asudden stop or an accident.
7. To return the seatback and seat cushion to its normal position, reverse the above pro-cedure.
o When you return the seatback to its upright position, always be sure it is locked intoposition by pulling and pushing on the top ofseatback.
WARNING:
o When you return the folded down seat back to its upright position, make surethe seat belts are in position to be acces-sible and to function properly.
o The purpose of the fold down rear seat back and the fold forward rear seat cush-ion is to increase cargo space. Do notallow passengers to sit in the cargo areawhile the car is moving. This is not aproper seating position and no seat beltsare available for use when the seat backis folded down. Passengers who are notproperly seated and wearing seat beltscould sustain serious injuries or death incase of an accident or a sudden stop.
o Objects should not extend higher than the top of the front seatbacks. This couldallow cargo to slide forward and causeinjury or damage during sudden stops.
4. Pull the seat cushion release lever upward,
then fold up the seat cushion.
CAUTION:To prevent damage, ensure that the reardrinkholder, located in the rear console, isclosed before folding the rear seatback andseat cushion.

Children who are too large for child restraintsystems should always occupy the rear seatand use the available lap/shoulder belts. Thelap portion should be fastened snug on thehips and as low as possible. Check belt fitperiodically. A child's squirming could put thebelt out of position. Children are afforded themost safety in the event of an accident whenthey are restrained by a proper restraint sys-tem in the rear seat. If a larger child (over age13) must be seated in the front seat, the childshould be securely restrained by the availablelap/shoulder belt and the seat should be placedin the rearmost position. the seatback. For vehicles with adjustable headrest, route the tether strap under the headrest andbetween the headrest posts, otherwiseroute the tether strap over the top of theseatback.
2. Connect the tether strap hook to the child restraint hook holder and tighten to securethe seat.
WARNING:
To install the Child Restraint Seat, for safetyreasons the Seat should be positionedrearmost with the seatback in a verticalposition, not reclined.

Securing a Child Restraint System with "ISOFIX" System and "Tether Anchor-age" System

This enables a much more se-cure and positive location with the addedbenefit of easier and quicker installation. An ISOFIX-seat can only be installed if it has vehicle-specific approval in accordance withthe requirements of ECE-R44. For yourHyundai, the Hyundai ISOFIX GR1 / HyundaiDuo / Römer ISOFIX GR1 and the RömerDuo ISOFIX / Britax Duo ISOFIX is approvedaccording to the requirement ECE-R44. o "START" The engine is started in this position. It will crank until you release the key. NOTE: Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.
o "ON" When the key is in the "ON position, the ignition is on and all accessories may be turned on. If the engine is not running, the key should not be left in the "ON" position. This will discharge the battery and may also damage the ignition sys- tem.
o "ACC" With the key in the "ACC" position, the some electrical accessories (radio, etc.) may be oper- ated.
C020A01O-GAT BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE Before you start the engine, you should always:
1. Look around the vehicle to be sure there are
no flat tires, puddles of oil, water or other indications of possible trouble.
2. After entering the car, check to be sure the parking brake is engaged.
3. Check that all windows, and lights are clean.
4. Check that the interior and exterior mirrors are clean and in position.
5. Check your seat, seatback and headrest to
be sure they are in their proper positions.
6. Lock all the doors.
7. Fasten your seat belt and be sure that all other occupants have fastened theirs.
8. Turn off all lights and accessories that are not needed.
9. When you turn the ignition switch to “ON”, check that all appropriate warning lights areoperating and that you have sufficient fuel.
10. Check the operation of warning lights and all
bulbs when key is in the “ON” position.
WARNING: (DIESEL ENGINE) To ensure that sufficient vacuum exists with- in the brake system during cold weather start- up conditions, it is necessary to run the engine at idle for several seconds after start- ing the engine.
C030A01A-GAT COMBINATION IGNITION SWITCH To Start the Engine Before starting the engine:
o If your Hyundai is equipped with a manual transaxle, place the shift lever in neutral and depress the clutch pedal fully.
o If your Hyundai has an automatic transaxle,
place the shift lever in "P" (park).
o To start the engine, insert the ignition key and
turn it to the "START" position. Release it as soon as the engine starts. Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.
NOTE: For safety, the engine will not start if the shift lever is not in "P" or "N" Position (automatic transaxle).

Head Restraint Adjustment
To raise the head restraint, pull it up. To lower
it, push it down while pressing the lock knob. For maximum effectiveness in the event of anaccident, the restraint must be adjusted sothat the restraint is approximately at the levelof the seat occupant's ears. The restraintmust never be so adjusted that it is centredabout the level of the seat occupant's neck.
WARNING:Do not operate the vehicle with the re-
