CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENTSB210S1-E BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR The front brake disc pads are fitted with an audible wear indicator which will cause a highpitched noise to be emitted when the remain-ing amount of friction lining is below the speci-fied value. When the wear indicator is heard,the brake pads should be replaced withoutdelay to avoid damage occurring to the brakediscs and a severe reduction in braking effi-ciency.

MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT
This light illuminates when there is a malfunc- tion of an exhaust gas related component,and the system is not functioning properly sothat the exhaust gas regulation values are notsatisfied. This light will illuminate when theignition key is tuned to the "ON" position, andwill go out after the engine start. If it illumi-nates while driving, or does not illuminatewhen the ignition key is turned to the "ON"position, take your car to your nearest autho-rized Hyundai dealer and have the systemchecked.
B260S01B-GAT DIESEL PRE-HEAT INDICATOR LIGHT-AMBER(Diesel Engine)
The indicator light illuminates amber when the ignition switch is placed at the "ON" position.The engine can be started after the pre-heatindicator light goes off. The illuminating timevaries with the water temperature, air tem-perature and battery condition. NOTE: If the engine were not started 10 seconds after the preheating is completed, turn theignition key once more to the "LOCK"position, and then to the "ON" position, inorder to preheat again.
B265A01B-GAT FUEL FILTER WARNING LIGHT-RED (Diesel Engine)
This light illuminates when the ignition switch
is set to the "ON" position and goes off after the engine has started. If it lights up while theengine is running, it indicates that water hasaccumulated inside the fuel filter. If this hap-pens, remove the water from the fuel filter.

TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT(Not all models)
The traction control indicator changes opera- tion according to the ignition switch positionand whether or not the system is in operation. It will also illuminate when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, and then go off ina few seconds. If the TCS indicator stays on,take your car to your authorized Hyundaidealer and have the system checked. Seesection 2 for more information about the TCSsystem.

PARKING START WARNING SOUND (Not all models)
If the vehicle is driven at 6mph(10km/h) for
more than 2~3 seconds, the warning chime will sound continuously when the parking brake engaged.
B900A01A-EAT ACOUSTIC WARNING SOUND (Not all models) The acoustic warning chime sounds when the tail lights are on and the door in driver side isopen. This prevents the battery from dis-charging when the car is left with the tail lightson. The chime sounds until the tail lights areturned off.

The fuel gauge indicates the quantity of fuel remaining in the fuel tank. NOTE: The fuel gauge is not intended to giveother than an approximate indication ofthe fuel level and is unsuitable for thepurposes of calculating fuel consumptionfigures. SB215B1-E
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE
The engine coolant temperature gauge indi-
cates the engine coolant temperature and will, under normal circumstances, give an indica-tion in the "Normal" or centre portion of thescale. Should the indication move into theupper or "Hot" portion of the scale, engineoverheating is indicated. Under these circum-stances, the vehicle should be brought to restas soon as is safe to do so and the engineturned off. Once the engine has cooled some-what, the coolant level and the condition ofthe generator/water pump drive belt should bechecked. If the cause of the overheating can-not be readily established, the assistance of aHyundai dealer should be sought.

B950A01E-DAT REAR FOG AUDIBLE WARNING SOUND The rear fog audible warning chime sounds when the rear fog lights are on and the doorin driver side is open.

WARNING: The engine cooling system is pressurized
and removal of the radiator cap when the engine is hot may cause hot water andsteam to be ejected from the radiator re-sulting in burns and scalding. The radiatorcap must only be removed when the en-gine has cooled. Do not add cold water toa hot engine to avoid the possibility ofengine damage. The use of plain water inthe cooling system is not recommendedsince the aluminium components of thecooling system require the use of a corro-sion inhibitor found in the recommendedEthylene Glycol type anti freeze solutions.

SPEEDOMETER
The speedometer indicates the vehicle speed
in both miles and kilometres per hour.

SB250A1-E HEATED REAR WINDOW To operate the heated rear window depress the switch shown. The heated rear windowwill automatically turn off after 20 minutes orwhen the ignition is turned off. The system may be turned off manually by depressing the switch again. CAUTION: The inside of the rear windscreen shouldnever be cleaned with a hard or sharp imple-ment since damage to the heating elementmay occur. The glass should only be cleanedwith a soft cloth or chamois leather with theuse only of a mild detergent or proprietaryglass cleaner where necessary. Only hori-zontal movement of the cloth should bemade when cleaning the glass and careshould be exercised to ensure that the heat-ing elements are not damaged by rings orjewellery whilst the glass is being cleaned. REAR FOG LIGHT SWITCH
To turn on the rear fog lights, push the switch.
They will come on when the headlight switchis in the second position and the key is in the"ON" position.

The side vent knobs control the amount of
outside air entering the vehicle through the side vents. These vents can also be closed,so no air enters through the side vents. Tochange the direction of the air flow, turn thecontrol knobs as desired.

This model has four controls for the heating and cooling system. They are:

This is used to select fresh outside air or recirculation inside air. To change the air intake control mode, (Fresh mode, Recirculation mode) push the controlbutton. FRESH MODE (
) : The indicator light on
the button goes off when the air intake control is in fresh mode. RECIRCULATION MODE (
): The indica-
tor light on the button is illuminated when the air intake control is in recirculation mode. With the "Fresh" mode selected, air enters the vehicle from the outside and is heated orcooled according to the function selected. With the "Recirculation" mode selected, air from within the passenger compartment will bedrawn through the heating system and heatedor cooled according to the function selected.

Fan Speed Control (Blower Control)

This is used to turn the blower fan on or off
and to select the fan speed.
This blower fan speed, and therefore the
volume of air delivered from the system, may be controlled manually by setting the blowercontrol between the "1" and "4" positions.

Face-Level
Selecting the "Face" mode will cause air to be
discharged through the face level vents.
NOTE:
o It should be noted that prolonged op- eration of the heating in "Recirculation" mode will increase to fogging of thewindscreen and side windows and theair within the passenger compartmentwill become stale. In addition, prolongeduse of the air conditioning with the"Recirculation" mode selected may re-sult in the air within the passenger com-partment becoming excessively dry.
o When the ignition switch is turned "ON" the air intake control will change to "
"
mode (regardless of switch position). This is normal operation.

This is used to direct the flow of air. Air can be directed to the floor, dashboard outlets, orwindscreen. Five symbols are used to repre-sent Face, Bi-Level, Floor, Floor-Defrost andDefrost air position.

Bi-Level
Air is discharged through the face vents and
the floor vents. This makes it possible to have cooler air from the dashboard vents and warmerair from the floor outlets at the same time. Floor-Level

Air is discharged through the windscreen de-
frost vents and the floor vents.
If the "Floor-Defrost" mode is selected, the A/C
will turn on automatically and "Fresh" mode willbe activated.

This is used to turn the heating system on and off and to select the degree of heating de-sired. B690A02S-AAT HEATING CONTROLS For normal heating operation, set the air in- take control to the "Fresh" position and the airflow control to "Floor". For faster heating, the air intake control should be in the "Recirculation" position. If the windows fog up, move the air flow control to the "Def" (defroster) position. (TheA/C will turn on automatically and "Fresh"mode will be activated.) For maximum heat, move the temperature control to "Warm".

Temperature Control Your Hyundai is equipped with bi-level heating controls. This makes it possible to have coolerair from the dashboard vents and warmer airfrom the floor outlets at the same time. To usethis feature:

o To keep dust or unpleasant fumes from
entering the car through the ventilation system, temporarily set the air intake con-trol at "Recirculation". Be sure to return thecontrol to "Fresh" when the irritation haspassed to keep fresh air in the vehicle.This will help keep the driver alert andcomfortable.
o Air for the heating/cooling system is drawn in through the grilles just ahead of thewindscreen. Care should be taken thatthese are not blocked by leaves, snow, iceor other obstructions.
o To prevent interior fog on the windscreen, set the air intake control to the fresh air(
) position and fan speed to the desired
position.
NOTE: When the A/C is operated continuously on the floor-defrost level (
) or defrost level
(), it may cause fog to form on the exte-
rior windscreen. If this occurs, set the air flow control to the face level position (
