o The total gross vehicle weight with trailer must not exceed the Gross Ve- hicle Weight Rating (GVWR) shown on the vehicle identification plate (see page 8-1). The total gross vehicle weight is the combined weight of the vehicle, driver, all passengers and their lug- gage, cargo, hitch, trailer nose weight and other optional equipment.
o The front or rear axle weight must not exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating(GAWR) shown on the vehicle identifi- cation plate (see page 8-1). it is possible that your towing package does not ex- ceed the GVWR but exceeds the GAWR. Improper trailer loading and/or too much luggage in the boot can overload the rear axle. Redistribute the load and check the axle weight again. MANUAL

driving vehicles with automatic transmission will assist with braking performance when long down hill gradients are encountered. Improved acceleration performance will be available by selecting "Overdrive Off","2", or "1" depending upon road speed if it is found that the transmission unit makes an undesir- able upshift whilst hill climbing or overtaking. The transmission unit should be operated in "D" with the Overdrive "On" under normal circumstances to enhance fuel economy and reduce noise and engine wear.
Gross Axle Weight
CAUTION: The use of a badly loaded or overloaded trailer may result in instability. This following specifications are recom-mended when towing a trailer. The loaded trailer weight or the Gross Train Weight must not exceed the values in the follow- ing chart . SSA2200DGross Vehicle Weight
to tyres which deteriorate through time and exposure rather than as a result of the dis- tances towed. The inside walls of the tyres should be inspected along with the outside walls for cracking and damage. The trailer wheel nut torque must be checked on a regular basis, preferably before each towing session. The trailer hitch and the safety catch mecha- nism must be maintained in good working order. The trailer break away cable or chain should be inspected for damage and should be attached to the vehicle towing attachment each and every time the trailer is hitched to the vehicle. Whilst towing, the performance of the vehicle will be reduced in terms of acceleration, brak- ing and handling due to the increased loads placed upon the vehicle. The driver should anticipate the change in characteristics and adjust the driving style in keeping with these changes. Care should be exercised when cornering and braking to prevent the outfit becoming uncontrollable by reducing corner- ing speeds and allowing increased braking distances. The driver should exercise care to ensure that when pulling away from rest particularly on uphill gradients the clutch unit is not subjected to excessive slippage which will reduce the useful life of this component. MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING REQUIREMENTS To ensure the continued reliability and safety
of the vehicle, certain routine maintenance operations are required at specific mileage ortime intervals.
It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to
ensure that the maintenance schedules shownin both this Owners Manual and the Warrantyand Service Passport are adhered to.
The new vehicle warranty may be invalidated
if the routine maintenance operations are notperformed in line with the recommendationsoutlined and the safety and durability of thevehicle adversely affected.
It is recommended that all maintenance op-
erations with the exception of the daily oper-ating checks are entrusted to a Hyundaiauthorised repairer to ensure that the latestrepair and maintenance procedures andspecialised servicing tools are employed. In addition, the use of genuine Hyundai re-
placement parts will ensure that the vehiclesafety and performance will not be compro-mised. NOTE: The inspection and testing of certain elec-
tronic fuel injection/engine management and automatic transmission control sys-tems require specialised electronic equip-ment specifically designed for Hyundaivehicles. The use of general purpose elec-trical test equipment may result in dam-age to the control unit microprocessors.

Specified Scheduled Procedures The Specified scheduled procedures are listed
in the maintenance charts beginning at page 5-2. The operations specified must be per-formed at the time or mileage intervals shownirrespective of whether the mileage intervalhas been reached before the specified timeinterval.
Certain lubricants and components degrade
with both time and mileage (e.g. engine oil andbrake fluid) and therefore it is not permissableto base the maintenance schedule upon mile-age alone. It is strongly recommended thatthe maintenance operations are performed bythe factory-trained or distributor-trained tech-nicians at your Hyundai authorised repairer because of the need for specialised knowl-edge and tooling and to ensure that no pos-sibility of invalidating the manufacturers war-ranty exists.
The maintenance schedules relate to ve-
hicles operated under normal conditions, ve-hicles which are operated under adverseconditions will require more frequent mainte-nance which is described at page 5-5. NOTE:
Service schedules may change depend-
ing on individual country needs. Please ask your local Hyundai authorised re-pairer for a copy of the service schedulethat relates to that country.

C140A01A-GAT You can save fuel and get more kilo- meters from your car if you follow these suggestions:
o Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a moderate rate. Don't make "jack- rabbit" starts or full-throttle shiftsand maintain a steady cruising speed. Don't race between stop- lights. Try to adjust your speed tothat of the other traffic so you don't have to change speeds unneces- sarily. Avoid heavy traffic wheneverpossible. Always maintain a safe distance from other vehicles so you can avoidunnecessary braking. This also re- duces brake wear.
o Drive at a moderate speed. The faster you drive, the more fuel yourcar uses. Driving at a moderate speed, especially on the highway, isone of the most effective ways to reduce fuel consumption.
o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal. This can increase fuel consumptionand also increase wear on these components. In addition, driving with
gear (manual transaxle). If your caris facing downhill, turn the frontwheels into the curb to help keep the car from rolling. If your car is facing uphill, turn the front wheels awayfrom the curb to help keep the car from rolling. If there is no curb or if it is requiredby other conditions to keep the car from rolling, block the wheels.
o Under some conditions your park- ing brake can freeze in the engagedposition. This is most likely to hap- pen when there is an accumulationof snow or ice around or near the rear brakes or if the brakes are wet. If there is a risk that the parkingbrake may freeze, apply it only tem- porarily while you put the gear se- lector lever in "P" (automatic) or infirst or reverse gear (manual transaxle) and block the rear wheels so the car cannot roll. Then releasethe parking brake.
o Do not hold the vehicle on the up-
grade with the accelerator pedal.This can cause the transmission to overheat. Always use the brake pedal or parking brake.
o Don't coast down hills with the car
out of gear. This is extremely haz-ardous. Keep the car in gear at all times, use the brakes to slow down, then shift to a lower gear so thatengine braking will help you main- tain a safe speed.
o Don't "ride" the brake pedal. Rest- ing your foot on the brake pedalwhile driving can be dangerous be- cause it can result in the brakesoverheating and losing their effec- tiveness. It also increases the wear of the brake components.
o If a tire goes flat while you are driving, apply the brakes gently andkeep the car pointed straight aheadwhile you slow down. When you are moving slowly enough for it to be safe to do so, pull off the road andstop in a safe place.
o If your car is equipped with an auto-
matic transaxle, don't let your carcreep forward. To avoid creeping forward, keep your foot on the brake pedal when the car is stopped.
o Use caution when parking on a hill. Engage the parking brake and placethe gear selector lever in "P" (auto-matic transaxle) or in first or reverse
