To minimize risk of severe injury in the event of a collision or a sudden stop, both the driver and passen- ger seatbacks should always be inan upright position while the ve- hicle is in motion. The protection provided by the seat belts andairbags in a frontal collision may be reduced significantly when the seatbacks are reclined. There isgreater risk that the driver and pas- senger will slide under the seat belt which may result in serious injury ifa crash occurs when the seatbacks are reclined. The seat belt cannot provide full protection to an occu-pant if the seat back is reclined.
To recline the seatback, lean forward totake your weight off it, then pull up on the recliner control lever at the outside edge of the seat. HFC2025

To avoid the possibility of injury in case of an accident or a suddenstop, the tray should be kept closed when the car is in motion. This will release the seat on itstrack so you can move it forward or rearward to the desired position. When you find the position you want, releasethe lever and slide the seat forward or rearward on its track until it locks into the desired position and cannot bemoved further.

1. Move the rear seat to the rearmost
position.
2. Remove the headrests.

o For maximum effectiveness in case
of an accident the headrest should be adjusted so the middle of the headrest is at the same height asthe top of the occupant's eyes. For this reason, the use of a cushion that holds the body away from theseatback should not be recom- mended.
o Do not operate vehicle with the headrests removed as injury tothe occupants may occur in the event of an accident. Headrestsmay provide protection against neck injuries when properly ad- justed.

5. To secure the seat, hook the secur-
ing strap under the seat cushion to the headrest stay of front driver andpassenger seat.
6. Insert the removed headrests be-
tween the seatback and seat cush-ion, so that they will not be thrown forward in the case of a sudden stop or an accident.
7. To return the seatback and seat cushion to its normal position, re-verse the above procedure.
o When you return the seatback to its upright position, always be sure it islocked into position by pulling and pushing on the top of seatback.
4. Pull the seat cushion release lever
upward, then fold up the seat cush-ion.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage, ensure that therear drinkholder, located in the rear console, is closed before folding therear seatback and seat cushion.

hold the seatback folding lever to- ward the headrest, then push down the seatback.

WARNING:
o When you return the folded down seat back to its upright position, make sure the seat belts are inposition to be accessible and to function properly.
o The purpose of the fold down rear seat back and the fold forward rearseat cushion is to increase cargo space. Do not allow passengers tosit in the cargo area while the car is moving. This is not a proper seating position and no seat beltsare available for use when the seat back is folded down. Passengers who are not properly seated andwearing seat belts could sustain serious injuries or death in case of an accident or a sudden stop.
o Objects should not extend higher than the top of the front seatbacks.This could allow cargo to slideforward and cause injury or dam- age during sudden stops.

There will be an audible"click" when the tab locks into the buckle. The seat belt automatically adjusts tothe proper length only after the lap belt is adjusted manually so that it fits snugly around your hips. To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor, lower or raise the height ad-juster into an appropriate position. To raise the height adjuster, pull it up. To lower it, push it down while pressingthe height adjuster button. Release the button to lock the anchor into position. Try sliding the heightadjuster to make sure that it has locked into position.
WARNING:
o The height adjuster must be in the locked position when thevehicle is moving.
o The misadjustment of height of
the shoulder belt could reducethe effectiveness of the seat belt in a crash.

The seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length only after the lap beltis adjusted manually so that it fits snugly around your hips. When you want to release the seat belt, press the button in the locking buckle. WARNING:
The center lap belt latching mecha- nism is different from those for therear seat shoulder belts. When fas- tening the rear seat shoulder belts or the center lap belt, make surethey are inserted into the correct buckles to obtain maximum protec- tion from the seat belt system andassure proper operation.

1. Before fastening the rear seat center
belt, confirm the metal tab (a) and buckle (b) are latched together.
2. After confirming that (a) and (b) are latched, pull the seat belt out of theretractor and insert the metal tab (c)into the buckle (d). There will be an audible "click" when thetab locks in the buckle. The seat beltautomatically adjusts to the proper length only after the lap belt is adjusted manu- ally so that it fits snugly around yourhips. If you lean forward in a slow, easy motion, the belt will extend and let you move around. If there is a sudden stopor impact, the belt will lock into position. It will also lock if you try to lean forward too quickly.
WARNING:
o When using the rear seat center belt, you must lock all metal tabs and buckles. If any metal tab or buckle is not locked, it will in-crease the chance of injury in the event of collision.
o Never unlock the metal tab (a)
and the buckle (b) with the fol-lowing exceptions.(1)In case of folding rear

(2)If transporting an object on
the rear seat may cause dam- age to the rear seat center belt.

28CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM
B230A03A-GAT (If Installed) Children riding in the car should sit in the rear seat and must always beproperly restrained to minimize the risk of injury in an accident, sudden stop or sudden maneuver. Accordingto accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seats than in the front seat. Largerchildren not in a child restraint should use one of the seat belts provided. You are required by law to use safetyrestraints for children. If small children ride in your vehicle you must put them in a child restraint system (safety seat).Children could be injured or killed in a crash if their restraints are not properly secured. For small children and ba-bies, a child seat or infant seat must be used. Before buying a particular child restraint system, make sure it fits yourcar and seat belts, and fits your child. Follow all the instructions provided by the manufacturer when installing thechild restraint system.
!WARNING:
o A child restraint system must be placed in the rear seat. Never install a child or infant seat on the front passenger's seat.Should an accident occur and cause the passenger side airbag to deploy, it could severely in-jure or kill an infant or child seated in an infant or child seat. Thus, only use a child restraint in therear seat of your vehicle.
o Since a safety belt or child re-
straint system can become veryhot if it is left in a closed vehicle, be sure to check the seat cover and buckles before placing achild there.
o When the child restraint system
is not in use, fasten it with asafety belt so that it will not be thrown forward in the case of a sudden stop or an accident.

The center belt latching mechanism is different from those for the rear seat shoulder belts. If you need to tighten the belt, pull more webbing toward the retractor. When youunbuckle the seat belt and allow it to retract, the retractor will automatically revert back to its normal seated pas-senger emergency locking usage con- dition. NOTE:
o Before installing the child re-
straint system, read the instruc- tions supplied by the child re- straint system manufacturer.
o If the seat belt does not operate as described, have the systemchecked immediately by yourauthorized Hyundai dealer.
WARNING:
Do not install any child restraint sys-tem in the front passenger seat.Should an accident occur and cause the passenger's side airbag to de- ploy, it could severely injure or killan infant or child seated in an infant or child seat. Therefore, only use a child restraint system in the rearseat of your vehicle.
B230G01A-GAT Installation on the Outboard Rear Seats To install a child restraint system on the outboard rear seats, extend the shoul- der/lap belt from its retractor. Buckle the seat belt and allow the seat belt totake up any slack. Make sure that the lap portion of the belt is tight around the child restraint system and the shoulderportion of the belt is positioned so that it cannot interfere with the child's head or neck. After installation of the childrestraint system, try to move it in all directions to be sure the child restraint system is securely installed.

After installation of the child restraintsystem, rock the child seat back andforth, and side to side to ensure that it is properly secured by the seat belt. If the child seat moves, readjust thelength of the seat belt. Then, if equipped, insert the child restraint tether strap hook into the child re-straint hook holder and tighten to se- cure the seat. Always refer to the child restraint system manufacturer's rec-ommendation before installing the child restraint system in your vehicle.
