To Check the Coolant Level If the level is below the "L" mark, add coolant of the correct concentrationuntil the level is between the "L" and "F" marks. If the level falls below the "L" mark on a regular basis despitebeing topped up, consult a Hyundai authorised repairer.

To Change the Coolant
The coolant should be changed at
those intervals specified in the vehicle maintenance schedule in Section 5.
NOTE: Care should be taken to ensure that
coolant is not allowed to spill onto the paintwork since the finish maybecome damaged. If coolant spill- age occurs, the affected area should be rinsed thoroughly with water.
1. Park the vehicle on level ground
and ensure that the parking brake is firmly applied, and the engine al- lowed to cool. Do not attempt this operation whilst the engine is hot since burning or scalding may result. 2. Prepare a suitable receptacle to
collect the displaced coolant and position this under the radiator drain tap.
3. With the heater temperature control set to the "HOT" position, removethe radiator cap and open the radia- tor drain tap.
4. When the engine coolant has drained completely, close the drain tap en-suring that this is not over tight- ened.
5. Prepare a suitable quantity of new engine coolant (refer to section 9)and pour this into the radiator.

To replace the air cleaner element, remove the air intake ducting from theair flow sensor body and unfasten the spring clips holding the air flow sensor top to the body.

6. Start the engine with the radiator cap still removed and continue to add coolant as the level decreases as air is expelled from the system.When the level remains constant, replace the radiator cap and replen- ish the coolant reservoir.
7. When the engine is hot, check to ensure that no coolant leaks arepresent. WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by
engine coolant temperature and maysometimes operate even when theengine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the blades of the cooling fan so thatyou are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant tem- perature decreases, the fan will au-tomatically shut off. This is a nor- mal condition.

Lift out the air flow sensor followed by the air cleaner element. Replacementof the element is the reverse of the above.
CAUTION:
o The air flow sensor is a precision engineered electronic measuringdevice and therefore care should be exercised that the air flow sen-sor is not damaged during re- placement of the element.
o When removing the air cleaner element, be careful that dust or dirt does not enter the air intake.These may result in damage to the air cleaner element.
To ensure maximum filtration perfor-mance and continued engine perfor- mance, only genuine Hyundai replace-ments should be used.
WINDSCREEN WIPER BLADES
G080A01A-EAT The wiper blades should be carefully inspected from time to time and cleaned to remove accumulations ofroad film or other debris.To clean the wiper blades and arms,use a clean sponge or cloth with a mild soap or detergent and water. If the wipers continue to streak or smear theglass, replace them with genuine Hyundai replacement. HEF119

CAUTION:
o Do not operate the wipers on dry glass since rapid wear and dam- age to the windscreen glass mayresult.
o Keep the blade rubber out of con- tact with petroleum products suchas engine oil, petrol, etc.

1. Put a new wiper blade onto thewiper arm and lower the wiper blade at the level of the wiper arm as shown in the drawing.

The level of windscreen washer fluid available should be checked on a daily basis. The level of fluid will be visible through the side of the reservoir.When the fluid is to be replenished, only a proprietary screen wash addi- tive should be used and in the concen- tration recommended by the manufac- turer. The windscreen washer reser- voir has a total capacity of 3 litres.

!CAUTION:
Engine coolant anti freeze must not be used in the windscreen washer system since damage to thepaintwork may result.
Undiluted windscreen washer addi-tive must not be allowed to comeinto contact with the paintwork. If spillage occurs, flush the affected area immediately with water. Do notoperate the windscreen washer for more than 15 seconds continuously or when the reservoir is empty since damage to the washer pump will result.

CHECKING THE TRANSAXLE OIL

The manual transaxle lubricant must be checked and or changed at the intervals specified in the maintenanceschedule. Only those lubricants speci- fied should be used in order to prevent gear shifting difficulties or transaxledamage. WARNING:
The transaxle lubricant level should
only be checked when the engine iscold to preclude the possibility ofpersonal injury by contact with hot components. NOTE: It is recommended that the manual transaxle lubricant should be checked by Hyundai authorised re- pairer. Recommended Oil Use only HYUNDAI GENUINE PARTS MTF 75W/85 (API GL-4) in the manualtransaxle.

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
The automatic transaxle fluid level should be checked and changed at those intervals prescribed in the main- tenance schedule. It is of paramountimportance that only the specified fluid is used when replenishing or changing the fluid. The use of other fluids mayirreparably damage the transaxle and invalidate the manufacturers warranty. In addition the ingress of dirt or lintmay prevent correct functioning of the transaxle and care must be exercised to prevent the ingress of such matter. NOTE: Automatic transaxle fluid is a red in color. As driving distance increases, the fluid color turns darkish red gradually. It is a normal conditionand you should not judge the need to replace based upon the changing color.You must replace the automatictransaxle fluid in accordance withintervals specified in the vehicle maintenance schedule in section 5. CAUTION:
The transaxle on fluid level must be
checked with the engine running and at normal operating tempera-ture and therefore care must be ex- ercised to prevent injury occurring through contact with rotating or hotparts of the engine.

Checking the automatic transaxle fluid level
The automatic transaxle fluid level
should be checked regularly.
Keep the vehicle on the level ground
with the parking brake applied and check the fluid level according to thefollowing procedure. HFC5008

Fluid Capacity
The total fluid capacity of the trans-mission unit is 6.1 litres (1.6 DOHC)/ 6.7 litres(1.8 DOHC).
! CAUTION:
The transaxle fluid level should be checked when the engine is at nor-mal operating temperature. This means that the engine, radia- tor, exhaust system etc., are very hot so you should exercise great care not to burn yourself during thisprocedure. 1. Place the selector lever in N (Neu-
tral) position and confirm the engineis running at normal idle speed.
2. After the transaxle is warmed up
sufficiently (fluid temperature70~80°C (158~176°F)), for example by 10 minutes usual driving, shift the selector lever through all posi-tions then place the selector lever in N (Neutral) or P (Park) position.

3. Confirm that the fluid level is in
“HOT” range on the level gauge. If the fluid level is lower, add the specified fluid from the fill hole. If the fluid level is higher, drain thefluid from the drain hole.
4. If the fluid level is checked in cold condition (fluid temperature 20~30°C (68~86°F)) add the fluid to “COLD” line and then recheck the fluid levelaccording to the above step 2. WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when theengine is not running. Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. Highpressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the enginestopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it contacts the body. People using pacemakers should ensure that they keep a distance of 30cm from the ECU or wiring har-ness within the engine room whilst engine is running, since the high currents in the Common Rail sys-tem produce considerable magnetic fields.

The fluid level in the brake fluid reser-
voir should be checked periodically. The level should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of thereservoir. If the level is at or below the "MIN" mark, fluid should be added having carefully cleaned the area sur-rounding the reservoir cap to ensure that dirt is not allowed to enter the system. It should be noted that thebrake fluid level will decrease slightly as the friction linings of the pads and shoes become worn and that this is anormal condition.

Only brake fluid conforming to DOT 3
or DOT 4 specifications or higher may be used in the braking system. Care should be taken to observe the in- structions and precautions printed uponthe container.
