Make certain that you close the
tailgate before driving your vehi-
cle. Possible damage may occurto the tailgate struts and mounting
hinges if the tailgate is not closedprior to driving.
Emergency tailgate safetyrelease
Your vehicle is equipped with an
emergency tailgate safety release
lever located on the bottom of the
tailgate inside the vehicle.
To unlock and open the tailgate man- ually from inside the luggage com-
partment, perform the followingsteps:
1. Remove the cover.
2. Push the release lever to the right.
3. Push the tailgate outward and upward.
NOTICE
The tailgate swings upward. Make sure no objects or people
are near the rear of the vehicle
when opening the tailgate.
WARNING
Do not hold on to or try to pull
on the tailgate strut. Be aware
that the deformation of the tail-
gate strut may cause vehicle
damage and risk of injury.
WARNING

Always keep the tailgate com-
pletely closed while the vehicle
is in motion. If it is left open or
ajar, poisonous exhaust gases
containing carbon monoxide
(CO) may enter the vehicle and
serious illness or death mayresult.

Power Tailgate (if equipped)
Power tailgate button
Power tailgate setting
When the POWER button is in the
ON position and the shift button is in
P (Park), the power tailgate can be
opened by using the console buttonon the dash.
Before using the power tailgate,
make sure the power tailgate option
is selected in the Vehicle Setting
modes in the AVN LCD display.
'Vehicle Settings Door/Liftgate
Power Liftgate' Also, the speed of the power tailgate
can be adjusted in the Vehicle Settings
mode in the AVN LCD display.

Power Liftgate Speed Fast/Slow'
- If the power tailgate function turns off or the tailgate is not fully closed,
you cannot adjust the power tail-gate speed.
- Initial speed of power tailgate is set as "Fast".

Information
The power tailgate operates only
when the shift button is in P (Park).i
Be aware of the location of the
emergency tailgate safety
release lever in your vehicle
and know how to open the
tailgate using the safety
release lever.
No one should be allowed to
occupy the luggage compart-
ment of the vehicle at any time.
The luggage compartment is a
very dangerous location in the
event of a crash.
Use the release lever for emer-
gencies only. Use extreme cau-
tion, especially while the vehi-
cle is in motion.

Do not close or open the power
tailgate manually. This may cause
damage to the power tailgate. If it
is necessary to close or open the
power tailgate manually when the
battery is discharged or discon-
nected, do not apply excessive
force.
Opening the tailgate
The power tailgate will open auto-
matically by doing one of the follow-ing:
Smart key tailgate unlock button
Press and hold the tailgate unlock
button on the smart key.
Power tailgate handle switch
Press the tailgate outside handle
switch while having the smart key
with you.
NOTICE
Never leave children unattended
in your vehicle. Children might
operate the power tailgate.
Doing so could result in injury
to themselves or others, and
could damage the vehicle.
WARNING
Make sure there are no people
or objects around the tailgate
before operating the power tail-
gate. Wait until the tailgate is
opened fully and stopped before
loading or unloading cargo or
passengers from the vehicle.

Power tailgate button
Press the power tailgate button for
approximately one second.
In order to suddenly stop the move-
ment of the tailgate while it is operat-
ing, quickly press the power tailgate
button.
Closing the tailgate
The power tailgate will close auto-
matically by doing one of the follow-ing:
Smart key tailgate unlock button
Press and hold the tailgate unlock
button on the smart key when the
tailgate is opened. The tailgate will
close and lock automatically.
Power tailgate inner button
Press the power tailgate inner button
for approximately 1 second. The tail-
gate will close and lock automatically.

Power tailgate button
Press the power tailgate button for
approximately one second. In order
to suddenly stop the movement of
the tailgate while it is operating,
quickly press the power tailgate but-ton.
In order to suddenly stop the move-
ment of the tailgate while it is operat-
ing, quickly press the power tailgate
button.
Power tailgate non-openingconditions
The power tailgate does not open
when the vehicle is in motion.
The chime will sound if youdrive with the tailgate opened.
Stop your vehicle immediately
at a safe place and check if yourtailgate is opened.
WARNING
OFE048038 Operating the power tailgate
more than 5 times continuously
could cause damage to the oper-
ating motor. In this case, the
power tailgate system enters
into thermal protection mode to
prevent the motor from over-heating.
In thermal protection mode the
power tailgate will not operate. If
any of the power tailgate buttons
are pressed to try to open the
tailgate, the chime will sound 3
times but the tailgate will remain
closed.
Allow the power tailgate system
to cool for about 1 minute before

The power tailgate can be oper-ated when the vehicle is not run-
ning. However, the power tail-gate operation consumes a
large amount of electic power.
To prevent the battery from
being discharged, do not oper-
ate it excessively (e.g. more than
5 times repeatedly).
To prevent the battery from being discharged, do not leave
the power tailgate in the open
position for a long time.
Do not modify or repair any part of the power tailgate by yourself.
This must be done by an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer.
When jacking up the vehicle to change a tire or repair the vehi-
cle, do not operate the power
tailgate. This could cause the
power tailgate to operate
improperly.
In cold and wet climates, the power tailgate may not work
properly due to freezing condi-tions.
Automatic reversal
During power opening and closing if
the power tailgate is blocked by an
object or part of the body, the power
tailgate will detect the resistance. If resistance is detected while open-
ing or closing the power tailgate, the
tailgate will stop and move in theopposite direction.
However, in some instances the
automatic reversal system may notdetect the object if it is too soft or is
very thin, or if the tailgate is almostfully closed near the latched position.
Caution should be taken to prevent
any objects from obstructing the tail-gate opeining. If the automatic reversal feature
operates more than 2 times whileattempting to open or close the tail-
gate, the power tailgate may stop at
that position. If this occurs, carefully
close the tailgate manually, and then
try to operate the power tailgateautomatically again.

Never intentionally place any
object or part of your body in
the path of the power tailgate to
make sure the automatic rever-sal operates.
WARNING
Do not put heavy objects on the
power tailgate before you oper-
ate the power tailgate feature.
Additional weight may damagethe operation of the system.

How to reset the power tailgate
If the battery has been discharged or
disconnected, or if the power tailgate
fuse has been replaced or removed,
reset the power tailgate by perform-
ing the following procedure:
1. Put the shift button in P (Park).
2. Press the power tailgate inner but-ton and the power tailgate outer
handle button simultaneously for
more than 3 seconds. The chimewill sound.
3. Close the tailgate manually.
If the power tailgate does not work
properly after the above procedure,
have the system checked by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
When operating the power tail-
gate, the gear shift button must be
in the (P) park position in order to
operate normally.
Power tailgate opening height user setting
Follow the instructions below to set
the fully open height of the powertailgate:
1. Position the tailgate manually to the height you prefer.
2. Press the power tailgate inner but- ton for more than 3 seconds.
3. Close the tailgate manually after hearing the buzzer sound.
The tailgate will open to the manual-
ly adjusted height that was set.
NOTICE

Rear cargo area
Occupants should never ride in
the rear cargo area where no
restraints are available. To avoid
injury in the event of an acci-
dent or sudden stops, occu-
pants should always be proper-
ly restrained.

Your vehicle is equipped with an

key, the tailgate can be opened with
hands-free activation using the
Smart Tailgate system.
Be aware of the location of the
emergency tailgate safety
release lever in your vehicle
and know how to open the
tailgate using the safety
release lever.
No one should be allowed to
occupy the luggage compart-
ment of the vehicle at any time.
The luggage compartment is a
very dangerous location in the
event of a crash.
Use the release lever for emer-
gencies only. Use extreme cau-
tion, especially while the vehi-
cle is in motion.

How to use the Smart Tailgate
The hands-free smart tailgate sys- tem can be opened automatically
when the following conditions aremet:
The Smart Tailgate option isenabled in the User Settings in the
AVN screen.
The Smart Tailgate is activated and ready 15 seconds after all the
doors are closed and locked
The Smart Tailgate will open when the smart key is detected in the
area behind the vehicle for 3 sec-onds Information
The Smart Tailgate will NOT operate
when:
 Any door is open, or all doors are closed but not locked
 The smart key is detected within 15 seconds from when the doors were
closed and locked
 For vehicles equipped with illumi- nated exterior front door handles, if
the smart key is detected within 15
seconds from when the doors were
closed and locked or if the smart key
is within 1.5 m (60 inches) from the
front door handles
 The smart key is in the vehicle. 1. Setting
To activate the Smart Tailgate, go to
"Vehicle settings
Door/Liftgate"
and select Smart Liftgate on the AVNscreen.
For more details refer to the sepa-
rately supplied Navigation manu-al.
2.Detect and Alert
The Smart Tailgate detecting area
extends approximately 50-100 cm
(20-40 in) behind the vehicle. If youare positioned in the detecting area
and are carrying the smart key, the
hazard warning lights will blink and
the chime will sound to alert you that
the smart tailgate will open.
Information
Do not approach the detecting area if
you do not want the tailgate to open. If
you have unintentionally entered the
detecting area and the hazard warn-
ing lights and chime starts to operate,
move away from the area behind the
vehicle with the smart key. The tail-
gate will remain closed.

3. Automatic opening
After the hazard warning lights blink
and the chime sounds 6 times, the
power tailgate will open.How to deactivate the SmartTailgate function using the
smart key
1. Door lock
2. Door unlock
3. Tailgate open
4. Panic
If you press any button on the smart
key during the Detect and Alert
stage, the Smart Tailgate function
will be deactivated.
Make sure to be aware of how to
deactivate the Smart Tailgate func-
tion for emergency situations.
Make certain that you close
the tailgate before driving
your vehicle.
Make sure there are no people
or objects around the tailgate
before opening or closing the
tailgate.
Make sure objects in the rear
cargo area do not come out
when opening the tailgate,
especially if the vehicle is
parked on a grade or incline.
If you keep your vehicle
parked and locked on your
driveway, you may want to
temporarily deactivate the
Smart Tailgate system.
Otherwise, standing at the
rear of the vehicle with the
smart key may cause the tail-
gate to open unintentionally.
WARNING
The key should be kept out of
reach of children. Children
may inadvertently open the
Smart Tailgate while playing
around the rear area of the
vehicle.
