WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
11
!
!
As the jack begins to raise the vehicle, double check that it is properly posi-tioned and will not slip. Raise the car high enough so that the fully inflated spare tire can be installed. To do this, you will need more ground clearance than is required to remove the flat tire. Using the jack handle, turn the release valve counterclockwise slow to lowerthe ram, and then take out the jack. When the release valve is difficult to turn by jack handle, connect the wheelnut wrench to the jack handle. CAUTION:
1) Use only the jack included with the vehicle and use it only forchanging a wheel and for in- stalling tire chains.
2) Position the jack on a hard, level surface.
3) If the release valve is loosened
by turning it 2 or more times in the counterclockwise direction, the jack's oil will leak and the jack cannot be used. Stop mark
HHP4020 HHP4019
WARNING:
Do not get under the car when it is supported by the jack! This is very dangerous as the vehicle could fall and cause serious injury or death. No one should stay in the car while the jack is being used.
4) This jack is hydraulic, and the
ram is a two stage type. When both rams are raised and the stop mark of the upper ram becomes visible, stop jacking immediately.

44CORROSION PREVENTION AND APPEARANCE CARE
6CLEANING THE INTERIOR
E040A01A-AAT To Clean the Vinyl Upholstery To clean the vinyl upholstery, first re- move loose dirt and dust with a vacuumcleaner. Then apply a solution of mild soap or detergent and water using a clean sponge or soft cloth. Allow this tostay on the surface to loosen the dirt, then wipe with a clean damp sponge or cloth. If all the dirt stains are not re-moved, repeat this procedure until the upholstery is clean. Do not use gaso- line, solvent, paint thinner or otherstrong cleaners. E040B01A-AAT To Clean the Leather Upholstery (If Installed) In the normal course of use, leather upholstered surfaces will, like anymaterial, pick-up dust and dirt. This dust and dirt must be cleaned off or it may work into the surface of the leather, causing damage. Fine leather needs care, and should be cleaned when necessary. Washing leather thoroughly with soap and water will keep your leather lustrous, beauti-ful and ensure you have many years of wear. Take a piece of cheese cloth and usingany mild soap and lukewarm water, work up a good lather. Thoroughly wash the leather. Wipe clean with aslightly damp cloth and dry with soft cloth. Do this as often as the leather becomes soiled. During tanning operations, sufficientoils are incorporated through process-ing that none need be applied during the life of the leather. Oil applied to the finished surface will in no way help theleather and may do more harm than good. Varnishes and furniture polishes should never be used under any con-ditions. E040C01A-AAT Cleaning the Carpets Use a foam-type carpet cleaner. Clean- ers of this type are available in aerosol cans in liquid form or powder. Read theinstructions and follow them exactly. Using a vacuum cleaner with the ap- propriate attachment, remove as muchdirt from the carpets as possible. Apply the foam following the manufacturer's directions, then rub in overlappingcircles. Do not add water. These clean- ers work best when the carpet is kept as dry as possible.

Specified Scheduled Procedures
These are the procedures such as
inspections, adjustments and replace- ments that are listed in the mainte-nance charts starting on page 5-4. These procedures must be performed at the intervals shown in the mainte-nance schedule to assure that your warranty remains in effect. Although it is strongly recommended that they beperformed by the factory-trained or distributor-trained technicians at your Hyundai dealer, these procedures maybe performed at any qualified service facility. F010D01A-AAT
General Checks
These are the regular checks youshould perform when you drive your Hyundai or you fill the fuel tank. A listof these items will be found on page 6- 5.
F010A01A-GAT Service Requirements To assure that you receive the great- est number of kilometers of satisfying operation from your Hyundai, certain maintenance procedures must be per-formed. Although careful design and engineering have reduced these to a minimum, those that are required areof the utmost importance. It is your responsibility to have thesemaintenance procedures performed to comply with the terms of the warran- ties covering your new Hyundai. TheService Passport supplied with your new vehicle provides further informa- tion about these warranties.
F010B01A-AAT
Maintenance Requirements
The maintenance required for your
Hyundai can be divided into three main areas: o Specified scheduled procedures o General checks o Do-it-yourself maintenance It is suggested that genuine Hyundai
service parts be used for any requiredrepairs or replacements. Other parts of equivalent quality such as engine oil, engine coolant, manual or auto trans-mission oil, brake fluid and so on which are not supplied by Hyundai Motor Company or its distributor maybe used without affecting your war- ranty coverage but you should always be sure these are equivalent to thequality of the original Hyundai parts. Your Service Passport provides fur- ther information about your warrantycoverage.

9EXPLANATION OF SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ITEMS
!
F060M01A-AAT
o Engine Oil and Filter
The engine oil and filter should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the car is being driven in severe conditions, more frequent oil and filter changes are required. F060B01A-AAT
o Drive belts
Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil saturation and replace if necessary. Drive belts should be checked periodi-cally for proper tension and adjusted as necessary. F060C01A-AAT
o Fuel filter
A clogged filter can limit the speed at
which the vehicle may be driven, dam-age the emission system and cause hard starting. If an excessive amountof foreign matter accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may require re- placement more frequently. After installing a new filter, run the
engine for several minutes, and checkfor leaks at the connections. Fuel fil- ters should be installed by trained technicians. WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with
engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injectors andhigh pressure pipes are subjected to high pressure even after the en- gine has been switched off. The fueljet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it contacts with the body. People using pacemakersshould not move closer than 30cm to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room with the enginerunning, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produce considerable magnetic fields.
F060D01TB-GAT
o Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses and
Connections
Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and connections for leakage and damage. Have a trained technician replace any damaged or leaking parts immediately.

F070E03HP-GAT
o Automatic Transmission Fluid
The fluid level should be in the "HOT" range of the dipstick, after the engine and transmission are at normal operat- ing temperature. Check the automatictransmission fluid level with the engine running and the transmission in neu- tral, with the parking brake properlyapplied. Use MOBIL DEXRON-II when adding or changing fluid.
F070D01A-AAT
o Manual Transmission Oil
Inspect the manual transmission oil according to the maintenance sched- ule.
NOTE: If the oil level is low, check for possible leaks before adding oil. Donot overfill. F070F01A-AAT
o Brake Hoses and Lines
Visually check for proper installation,
chafing, cracks, deterioration and any leakage. Replace any deteriorated or damaged parts immediately.
F070G02A-AAT
o Brake Fluid
Check brake fluid level in the brake
fluid reservoir. The level should bebetween "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the reservoir. Use only hydraulic brake fluid conforming to DOT3 or DOT 4.
F070H01A-AAT
o Rear Brake Drums/ Linings
Parking Brake
Check the rear brake drums and lin-
ings for scoring, burning, leaking fluid, broken parts, and excessive wear. In-spect the parking brake system in- cluding the parking brake lever and cables. For detailed service proce-dures, refer to the Shop Manual. F070J01A-AAT
o Brake Pads, Calipers and
Rotors
Check the pads for excessive wear, discs for run out and wear, and cali- pers for fluid leakage. F070K01A-AAT o Exhaust Pipe and Muffler Visually inspect the exhaust pipes, muffler and hangers for cracks, dete- rioration, or damage. Start the engine and listen carefully for any exhaustgas leakage. Tighten connections or replace parts as necessary. F070L01A-AAT o Suspension Mounting Bolts Check the suspension connections for looseness or damage. Retighten to the specified torque.
