To remove frost or exterior fog on the windscreen:
o Set the air flow control to the defrost ( ) position.(The A/C will turn on automatically and "Fresh" mode willbe activated.)
o Set the temperature control to warm.
o Set the fan speed control to position
"3" or "4".
NOTE: When the A/C is operated continu- ously on the floor-defrost level ( ) or defrost level ( ), it may cause fog to form on the exteriorwindscreen. If this occurs, set the air flow control to the face level position ( ) and fan speed control to the low position.

o To keep dust or unpleasant fumes from entering the car through the ventilation system, temporarily set the air intake control to the position. Be sure to return the co-ntrol to the position when the irrita- tion has passed to keep fresh air in the vehicle. This will help keep thedriver alert and comfortable.
o Air for the heating/cooling system is
drawn in through the grilles justahead of the windscreen. Care should be taken that these are not blocked by leaves, snow, ice or other ob-structions.
o To prevent interior fog on the
windscreen, set the air intake con-trol to the fresh air( ) position, and fan speed to the desired posi- tion, turn on the air conditioningsystem, and adjust temperature control to desired temperature.
Use the heating/ventilation system to defrost or defog the windscreen. To remove interior fog on the windscreen:
o Set the air flow control to the defrost
( ) position.(The A/C will turn on automatically and "Fresh" mode will be activated.)
o Set the temperature control to the desired position.

o Set the side vent control to " ", to
shut off the outside air entry.
o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch
by pushing in on the switch. The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.
o Set the air intake control to the fresh air ( ) position. o Set the temperature control to "Cool".
("Cool" provides maximum cooling.The temperature may be moderated by moving the control toward "Warm".)
o Adjust the fan control to the desired speed. For greater cooling, turn thefan control to one of the higherspeeds or temporarily select the recirculate ( ) position on the air intake control.B740B01HP

2. Push the "TEMP" button to set the desired temperature. The temperature will increase to the maximum 90°F(32°C) by pushingon the button. Each push of the button will cause the temperature to increase by 1°F(0.5°C).The temperature will decrease to the minimum 62°F(17°C) by push- ing on the button. Each push ofthe button will cause the temperature to decrease by 1°F(0.5°C). NOTE: If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, the temperature mode will reset to Centigrade de- gree.This is a normal condition and you can adjust the temperature mode from Centigrade to Fahrenheit asfollows; Press the TEMP down ( ) button 3 seconds or more with the AMBbutton held down. B980E01L-EAT Air Flow Control This is used to direct the flow of air. Air can be directed to the floor, dashboard outlets, or windscreen. Four symbols are used to represent Face, Bi-Level,Floor and Floor-Defrost air position. Face-Level
When selecting the "Face" mode, theindicator light will come on, causing airto be discharged through the face level vents.

o When the ignition switch is turned "ON" the air intake control will be changed to ( )mode (regard- less of switch position). This is normal operation. YC170C1-E Anti-freeze/Corrosion inhibitor The cooling system must always con- tain an Ethylene-Glycol based anti-freeze solution. The system is filled during manufacture with solution of the correct strength which should bechecked before the onset of winter and adjusted or changed as required. NOTE: The anti-freeze solution contains a corrosion inhibitor to prevent deg- radation of the aluminium castingscontained within the engine. There- fore, never, drain the system and refill with water only. In addition, anti-freeze solution must ALWAYS be used in vehicles fittedwith air conditioning, to prevent the heater matrix from freezing and sub- sequently bursting with the refrigera-tion system in use. ZC170D1-E Door Locks Should the door lock mechanism be- come frozen, a proprietary lock de-icershould be used. Alternatively, warm- ing the door key may thaw the door lock. However, the key should behandled carefully to avoid burning the fingers. Never attempt to thaw a frozen doorlock using hot water, since the water will eventually freeze and compound the problem. NOTE: The proper temperature for using the immobilizer key is from -40°F to176°F (-40°C to 80°C). If you heat the immobilizer key over 176°F (80°C) to open the frozen lock, it may causedamage to the transponder in its head.
ZC170E1-E Windscreen Washers & Wipers The windscreen washer bottle should be filled with a solution of water and a proprietary winter screen wash addi- tive. The windscreen wipers shouldnot be used if the blades are frozen to the windscreen or if they are covered with snow, before this is removed. NOTE: Never allow undiluted screen washer fluid additive to spill uponthe paintwork or use engine cool- ant anti-freeze since damage to the paintwork may result.
o When driving in extreme condi-
tions, the windscreen wiper blades may fail to clear the screen properly due to the formation of ice upon the blade edge. It willtherefore be necessary to peri- odically remove such ice to re- store their efficiency.
o If the power operated door mir- rors become frozen, attempts toadjust these may damage themechanism.

3 IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

1. Ensure that the booster battery is 12
volt type. If the booster battery is installed in another vehicle, ensure that the two vehicles are not touch- ing.
2. Turn off all unnecessary electrical equipment in both vehicles.
3. Ensure that the engine of the ve- hicle providing the jump start is run- ning prior to connection of the jump cables.
4. Connect the red jump cable to the positive (+) terminal of the boosterbattery and the other end to thepositive (+) terminal of the dis- charged battery.
5. Attach the black jump cable to the negative (-) terminal of the boosterbattery, and the other end to a ground point within the engine compartmentof the vehicle with the flat bat-tery. Do not connect to the negative bat- tery terminal of the flat battery sincesparks may be generated with the subsequent risk of explosion.
6. Raise the booster vehicle engine speed to 2,000 r.p.m. and start theengine of the vehicle with the flat battery. 7. Switch "ON" the main beam
headlamps before carefully remov-ing the jumper cables in the reverse order of attachment. Once the jumper cables have been removed,switch "OFF" the main beam headlamps.
CAUTION:
If the jump cable is incorrectly in- stalled, damage to the vehicle elec- trical system may occur, in particu- lar the electronic components suchas the Fuel Injection system com- puter and the Automatic transmis- sion computer. The battery mustnever be disconnected whilst the engine is running.
IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
HPD040A2-E If the temperature gauge indicates overheating:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
2. Place the gear selector lever in "P"
(automatic), or neutral (manual trans- mission) and set the parking brake. If the air conditioning is on, turn it off.
3. If coolant is running out under the car or steam is coming out from underthe bonnet, stop the engine. Do not open the bonnet until the coolant hasstopped running or the steaming has stopped. If there is no visible loss of coolant and no steam, leave theengine running and check to be sure the engine cooling fan is operating. If the fan is not running, turn theengine off.
4. Check to see if the water pump drive
belt is missing. If it is not missing,check to see that it is tight. If the drive belt seems to be satisfactory, check for coolant leaking from theradiator, hoses or under the car. (If the air conditioning had been in use, it is normal for cold water to bedraining from it).

!WARNING:
Whilst the engine is running, keep hands and clothing away from mov- ing parts such as the fan and drive belts to prevent injury.
WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system withengine running or within 30 seconds after shutting off engine. High pres- sure pump, rail, injectors and highpressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced byfuel leaks may cause serious in- jury, if it touch the body. People using pacemakers should not movethan 30cm closer to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room while engine is running, sincethe high currents in the Common Rail system produce considerable magnetic fields. 5. If the water pump drive belt is broken
or coolant is leaking out, stop theengine immediately and call the near- est Hyundai dealer for assistance.
WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot since steam andboiling water may be ejected from the radiator resulting in burns or scalding.
6. If the cause of the overheating can- not be found, wait until the engine temperature has returned to normal.Then, if coolant has been lost, care- fully remove the radiator cap and add water to bring the fluid level in thereservoir(page 6-10) up to the base of the radiator fill opening. Fill the coolant expansion tank to the half-way mark.
7. Proceed with caution until it is estab-
lished that the engine is operatingnormally. If the engine overheats repeatedly, the advice of a Hyundai dealer should be sought.! CAUTION:
Serious loss of coolant indicates there is a leak in the cooling system and this should be checked as soon as possible by a Hyundai dealer.
