FUEL INJECTOR
Revision: 2006 January2006 M35/M45
Specification data are reference values and are measured between each terminal and ground.
Pulse signal is measured by CONSULT-II.
CAUTION:
Do not use ECM ground terminals when measuring input/output voltage. Doing so may result in dam-
age to the ECM's transistor. Use a ground other than ECM terminals, such as the ground.
: Average voltage for pulse signal (Actual pulse signal can be confirmed by oscilloscope.)
Diagnostic ProcedureNBS005PY
1. INSPECTION START
Turn ignition switch to START.
Is any cylinder ignited?
Ye s o r N o
Yes (With CONSULT-II)>>GO TO 2.
Yes (Without CONSULT-II)>>GO TO 3.
No >> GO TO 3.
2. CHECK OVERALL FUNCTION
With CONSULT-II
1. Start engine.
2. Perform “POWER BALANCE” in “ACTIVE TEST” mode with
CONSULT-II.
3. Make sure that each circuit produces a momentary engine
speed drop.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> GO TO 3.

3. CHECK FUNCTION OF FUEL INJECTOR-I
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect harness connectors F52, F251 (bank 1) and F51, F271 (bank 2).
3. Turn ignition switch ON.
4. Check voltage between the following;
harness connector F52 terminal 5 and ground,
harness connector F51 terminal 5 and ground
with CONSULT-II or tester.
5. Turn ignition switch OFF.
6. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
7. Check harness continuity between the following terminals.
8. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 5.
NG >> GO TO 4.

4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
Harness connectors M72, F102
Harness connectors F52, F251
Harness connectors F51, F271
Fuse block (J/B) connector M4
15A fuse
Harness for open or short between harness connector F51 and fuse
Harness for open or short between harness connector F52 and fuse
Harness for open or short between harness connector F51 and ECM
Harness for open or short between harness connector F52 and ECM
>> Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
5. CHECK FUNCTION OF FUEL INJECTOR-II
Provide battery voltage between the following terminals, and then
interrupt it. Listen to each fuel injector operating sound.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> GO TO 6.

6. CHECK SUB-HARNESS CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT
1. Disconnect fuel injector harness connectors.
2. Check harness continuity between the following terminals. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
3. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 7.
NG >> Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
7. CHECK FUEL INJECTOR
Refer to EC-1426, "
Component Inspection" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 8.
NG >> Replace fuel injector.
8. CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT
Refer to EC-878, "
TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT" .

1. CHECK OVERALL FUNCTION
1. Turn ignition switch ON.
2. Pinch fuel feed hose (1) with two fingers.
Fuel pressure pulsation should be felt on the fuel feed hose
for 1 second after ignition switch is turned ON.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> GO TO 2.
2. CHECK FUEL PUMP POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-I
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
3. Turn ignition switch ON.
4. Check voltage between ECM terminal 113 and ground with
CONSULT-II or tester.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 5.
NG >> GO TO 3.

3. CHECK FUEL PUMP POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-II
Check voltage between IPDM E/R terminal 40 and ground with
CONSULT-II or tester.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> GO TO 15.
4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
Harness connectors E108, M15
Harness for open or short between IPDM E/R and ECM
>> Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
5. CHECK CONDENSER POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-I
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Reconnect all harness connectors disconnected.
3. Disconnect condenser harness connector.
4. Turn ignition switch ON.
5. Check voltage between condenser terminal 1 and ground with
CONSULT-II or tester.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 9.
NG >> GO TO 6.
6. CHECK 15A FUSE
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect 15A fuse.
3. Check 15A fuse.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 7.
NG >> Replace fuse.Voltage: Battery voltage

7. CHECK CONDENSER POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-II
1. Disconnect IPDM E/R harness connector E8.
2. Check harness continuity between IPDM E/R terminal 39 and condenser terminal 1.
Refer to Wiring Diagram.
3. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 15.
NG >> GO TO 8.
8. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
Harness connectors E106, B4
IPDM E/R connector E8
Harness for open or short between IPDM E/R and condenser
>> Repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.
9. CHECK CONDENSER GROUND CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect dropping resistor harness connector.
3. Check harness continuity between condenser terminal 2 and dropping resistor terminal 2.
Refer to Wiring Diagram.
4. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 10.
NG >> Repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.
10. CHECK CONDENSER
Refer to EC-1433, "
Component Inspection" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 11.
NG >> Replace condenser.Continuity should exist.
: Vehicle front 1. FPCM 2. Dropping resistor
Continuity should exist.

11 . CHECK FUEL PUMP POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-III
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect harness connectors E106, B4.
3. Disconnect “fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump” harness con-
nector (1).
–Illustration shows the view with rear seat cushion and inspection
hole cover (RH) removed.
–: Vehicle front
4. Check harness continuity between the following;
harness connector B4 terminal 4 and “fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump” terminal 1,
“fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump” terminal 3 and dropping resistor terminal 2,
dropping resister terminal 1 and ground.
Refer to Wiring Diagram.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 13.
NG >> GO TO 12.
12. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
Harness connector B4
Harness connectors B64, B162
Harness for open or short between “fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump” and harness connector B4
Harness for open or short between “fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump” and dropping resistor
Harness for open or short between dropping resistor and ground
>> Repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.
13. CHECK DROPPING RESISTOR
Refer to EC-1433, "
Component Inspection" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 14.
NG >> Replace dropping resistor.
14. CHECK FUEL PUMP
Refer to EC-1433, "
Component Inspection" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 15.
NG >> Replace fuel pump.

1. CHECK REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SENSOR OVERALL FUNCTION
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn A/C switch and blower switch ON.
3. Check voltage between ECM terminal 70 and ground with CON-
SULT-II or tester.

NG >> GO TO 2.

2. CHECK GROUND CONNECTIONS
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Loosen and retighten two ground screws on the body.
Refer to EC-885, "
Ground Inspection" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Repair or replace ground connections.
3. CHECK REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SENSOR POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
1. Disconnect refrigerant pressure sensor (1) harness connector.
2. Turn ignition switch ON.
3. Check voltage between refrigerant pressure sensor terminal 1
and ground with CONSULT-II or tester.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 5.
NG >> GO TO 4.
4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
Harness connectors E11, F2
Harness for open or short between ECM and refrigerant pressure sensor
>> Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
