air condition INFINITI QX30 2017 User Guide

•Right after inflation, several side air bag
and curtain air bag system components will
be hot. Do not touch them; you may severely
burn yourself.
•No unauthorized changes should be made
to any components or wiring of the side air
bag and curtain air bag systems. This is to
prevent damage to or accidental inflation of
the side air bag and curtain air bag systems.
•Do not make unauthorized changes to your
vehicle’s electrical system, suspension sys-
tem or side panel. This could affect proper
operation of the curtain air bag systems.
•Tampering with the side air bag system may
result in serious personal injury. For ex-
ample, do not change the front seats by
placing material near the seatbacks or by
installing additional trim material, such as
seat covers, around the side air bag.
•It is recommended that you visit an INFINITI
retailer for work on and around the front air
bag. It is also recommended that you visit
an INFINITI retailer for installation of electri-
cal equipment. The SRS wiring harnesses*
should not be modified or disconnected. Un-
authorized electrical test equipment and
probing devices should not be used on the
side air bag or curtain air bag systems.
Driver and passenger supplemental
knee air bags
The driver’s knee air bag deploys under the
steering column, while the passenger’s knee air
bag deploys under the glove box. All of the
information, cautions and warnings in this
manual apply and must be followed. The driv-
er’s and passenger’s knee air bags are trig-
gered together with the front air bag. The knee
air bags are designed to inflate in higher sever-
ity frontal collisions, although they may inflate
if the forces in another type of collision are
similar to those of a higher severity frontal
impact. They may not inflate in certain colli-
sions.
Vehicle damage (or lack of it) is not always an
indication of proper knee air bag operation.
When a knee air bag inflates, a fairly loud noise
may be heard, followed by release of smoke.
This smoke is not harmful and does not indicate
a fire. Care should be taken not to inhale it, as
it may cause irritation and choking. Those with
a history of a breathing condition should get
fresh air promptly
The knee air bags help to cushion the impact
force on the knees of the driver and front
passenger. They can help reduce serious inju-
ries. However, an inflating knee air bag maycause abrasions or other injuries. The knee air
bag provides restraint to the lower body.
The knee air bag inflates quickly in order to help
protect the occupants. Because of this, the
force of the knee air bag inflating can increase
the risk of injury if the occupant is too close to,
or is against, this air bag module during infla-
tion. The knee air bag will deflate quickly after
the collision is over OR the knee air bag will
remain inflated for a short time.
The knee air bags operate only when the ignition
switch is placed in the ON position. After placing
the ignition switch in the ON position, the
supplemental air bag warning light illuminates.
The supplemental air bag warning light will turn
off a few seconds after the engine starts if the
system is operational.
WARNING
•Do not place any objects between the knee
bolster and the driver’s seat. Such objects
may become dangerous projectiles and
cause injury if a knee air bag inflates.
•Right after inflation, the knee air bag sys-
tem components will be hot. Do not touch
them; you may severely burn yourself.
•No unauthorized changes should be made
to any components or wiring of the knee air

bag system. This is to prevent damage to or
accidental inflation of the knee air bag
system.
•Do not make unauthorized changes to your
vehicle’s electrical system or suspension
system. This could affect proper operation
of the knee air bag system.
•Tampering with the knee air bag system
may result in serious personal injury. For
example, do not change the driver knee bol-
ster or install additional trim material
around the knee air bag.
•It is recommended that you visit an INFINITI
retailer for work on and around the front air
bag. It is also recommended that you visit
an INFINITI retailer for installation of electri-
cal equipment. The SRS wiring harnesses*
should not be modified or disconnected. Un-
authorized electrical test equipment and
probing devices should not be used on the
knee air bag system.
* The SRS wiring harness or connectors are yellow or orange for easy identification.
When selling your vehicle, we request that you
inform the buyer about the knee air bag system
and guide the buyer to the appropriate sections
in this manual.
Seat belt with pretensioner(s)
WARNING
•The pretensioner(s) cannot be reused after
activation. They must be replaced together
with the retractor and buckle as a unit.
•If the vehicle becomes involved in a colli-
sion but pretensioner(s) are not activated,
be sure to have the pretensioner system
checked and, if necessary, replaced. It is
recommended that you visit an INFINITI re-
tailer for this service.
•No unauthorized changes should be made
to any components or wiring of the preten-
sioner system. This is to prevent damage to
or accidental activation of the pretension-
er(s). Tampering with the pretensioner sys-
tem may result in serious personal injury.
•It is recommended that you visit an INFINITI
retailer for work on and around the preten-
sioner system. It is also recommended that
you visit an INFINITI retailer for installation
of electrical equipment. Unauthorized elec-
trical test equipment and probing devices
should not be used on the pretensioner
system.
•If you need to dispose of the pretensioner(s)
or scrap the vehicle, it is recommended that
you visit an INFINITI retailer for this service.
Incorrect disposal procedures could cause
personal injury.
The pretensioner system may activate with the
supplemental air bag system in certain types of
collisions. Working with the seat belt retractor,
the pretensioner(s) help tighten the seat belt
when the vehicle becomes involved in certain
types of collisions, helping to restrain front seat
occupants. The pretensioner(s) are encased
within the seat belt retractor and to the seat
belt anchor affixed to the floor of the vehicle.
These seat belts are used the same way as
conventional seat belts. When pretensioner(s)
activate, smoke is released and a loud noise
may be heard. This smoke is not harmful and
does not indicate a fire. Care should be taken
not to inhale it, as it may cause irritation and
choking. Those with a history of a breathing
condition should get fresh air promptly. After
the pretensioner(s)’s activation, load limiters
allow the seat belt to release webbing (if nec-
essary) to reduce forces against the chest. The
supplemental air bag warning light is used to

indicate malfunctions in the pretensioner sys-
tem. For additional information, refer to Supple-
mental air bag warning light in this section. If
the operation of the supplemental air bag warn-
ing light indicates there is a malfunction, have
the system checked. It is recommended that
you visit an INFINITI retailer for this service.
When selling your vehicle, we request that you
inform the buyer about the pretensioner system
and guide the buyer to the appropriate sections
in this Owner’s Manual.

REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT
PROCEDURE
The front air bags, side air bags, curtain air
bags, knee air bags and pretensioner(s) are
designed to inflate on a one-time-only basis. As
a reminder, unless it is damaged, the supple-
mental air bag warning light remains illumi-
nated after inflation has occurred.
These systems should be repaired and/or re-
placed as soon as possible. It is recommended
that you visit an INFINITI retailer for this service.
When maintenance work is required on the
vehicle, the front air bags, side air bags, curtain
air bags, knee air bags, pretensioner(s) and
related parts should be pointed out to the
person performing the maintenance. The igni-
tion switch should always be in the LOCK
position when working under the hood or inside
the vehicle.
WARNING
•Once a front air bag, side air bag, knee air
bag, or curtain air bag has inflated, the air
bag module will not function again and must
be replaced. Additionally, the activated pre-
tensioner(s) must also be replaced. The air
bag module and pretensioner(s) should be
replaced. It is recommended that you visitan INFINITI retailer for this service. However,
the air bag module and pretensioner(s) can-

varies with the outside air temperature and
driving conditions.
CAUTION
If the gauge indicates coolant temperature
near the hot (H) end of the normal range, re-
duce vehicle speed to decrease temperature. If
the gauge is over the normal range, stop the
vehicle as soon as safely possible. If the en-
gine is overheated, continued operation of the
vehicle may seriously damage the engine. For
additional information, refer to If your vehicle
overheats in the6. In case of emergency
section for immediate action required.
FUEL GAUGE
The fuel gauge indicates the approximatefuel
level in the tank when the ignition switch is in

2-8Instruments and controls

The seat belt warning light may also illuminate
if there are objects on the front passenger seat.
Remove the objects and stow them in a safe
place.
If the seat belt warning light flashes, together
with an intermittent warning tone, this means
that the driver or passenger has not fastened
their seat belt, and the speed of the vehicle is
exceeding 15 MPH (25 km/h).
Supplemental Restraint System
(SRS) air bag warning light
WARNING
If the supplemental air bag warning light is on,
it could mean that the front air bag, driver’s
knee air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag
and/or pretensioner systems will not operate
in an accident. To help avoid injury to yourself
or others, have your vehicle checked by an
INFINITI retailer as soon as possible.
When the ignition switch is in the ON position,
the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) air
bag warning light illuminates to indicate that
the system is operational. The light then tuns
off within a few seconds after the engine is
started. If any of the following conditions occur, the
front air bag, front seat-mounted side-impact
air bag, roof-mounted curtain air bag and pre-
tensioner systems need servicing:
•The supplemental air bag warning light re-
mains on for longer than a few seconds once
the engine is running.
•The supplemental air bag warning light
flashes intermittently.
•The supplemental air bag warning light does
not come on at all.
It is recommended you visit an INFINITI retailer
for these services. Unless checked and re-
paired, the supplemental restraint system (air
bag system) and/or the pretensioner systems
may not function properly. For additional infor-
mation, refer to Supplemental Restraint Sys-
tem (SRS) in the1. Safety — seats, seat belts
and supplemental restraint system section.
Coolant warning light
WARNING
If the coolant warning light is lit, the engine
may not be being cooled sufficiently and may
be damaged.
Never drive with an overheated engine. Driving
when your engine is overheated can cause some fluids which may have leaked into the
engine compartment to catch fire.
In addition, steam from an overheated engine
can cause serious burns, which can occur just
by opening the hood.
There is a risk of injury
If the red coolant warning light lights up while the
engine is running and the coolant temperature
gauge is at the start of the scale, the temperature
sensor for the coolant temperature gauge is faulty.
The coolant temperature is no longer being moni-
tored. There is a risk of engine damage if the
coolant temperature is too high.
Stop the vehicle immediately, paying attention
to road and traffic conditions, and switch off the
engine. Do not continue driving under any
circumstances.
Consult an INFINITI retailer.
If the red coolant warning light comes on while
the engine is running, with or without an ac-
companying warning tone, it could mean that:
•The coolant level is too low.
•If the coolant level is correct, the airflow to
the engine radiator may be blocked or the
electric engine radiator fan may be malfunc-
tioning.
2-12Instruments and controls

•The coolant is too hot and the engine is no
longer being cooled sufficiently.
Observe the additional display messages in the
vehicle information display.
Stop the vehicle immediately, paying attention
to road and traffic conditions, and switch off the
engine.
Secure the vehicle against rolling away.
Leave the vehicle and keep a safe distance from
the vehicle until the engine has cooled down.
Check the coolant level and top up the coolant,
observing the warning notes (see If your ve-
hicle overheats in the6. In case of emergency
section).
If you have to top up the coolant frequently,
have the engine cooling system checked.
Make sure that the air supply to the engine
radiator is not blocked, e. g. by frozen slush.
Do not start the engine again until the coolant
temperature is below 250
oF (120oC). The
engine may otherwise be damaged.
Low fuel warning light
This light comes on when the fuel level in the fuel
tank is getting low. Refuel as soon as it is conve-
nient, preferably before the fuel gauge reaches 0 (Empty).
There will be a small reserve of fuel in the
tank when the fuel gauge reaches 0 (Empty).
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
warning light
The VDC warning light blinks when the Vehicle
Dynamic Control (VDC) system is operating,
thus alerting the driver to the fact that the road
surface is slippery and the vehicle is nearing its
traction limits.
You may feel or hear the system working, this is
normal.
The light will continue to blink for a few seconds
after the VDC system stops limiting wheel spin.
Cruise control or Intelligent Cruise Control is
deactivated.
For additional information see Vehicle Dy-
namic Control (VDC) OFF indicator light in the
2. Instruments and controls section andVe-
hicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system in the

INDICATOR LIGHTS
Turn signal/hazard indicator lights
The appropriate light flashes when the turn
signal switch is activated. Both lights flash
when the hazard switch is turned on.
Low beam indicator light
This light comes on when the switch is turned to
the position:The headlights will come on
and front side, tail, number plate and instru-
ment lights remain on.
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
OFF indicator light
The light comes on when the Vehicle Dynamic
Control (VDC) has been disabled. This indicates
that the VDC system is not operating.
Disabling the VDC system causes the Forward
Emergency Braking system to become unavail-
able. See Forward emergency braking (FEB)
system (if equipped) in the5. Starting and
driving section for more details.
This light also comes on briefly when the igni-
tion switch is turned to the ON position. The
light will turn off after approximately 1 second if
the VDC system is operational.
When the VDC OFF indicator light and VDC
warning light (see Vehicle Dynamic Control
(VDC) warning light later in this section) come
on with the VDC system turned on, it alerts the
driver to the fact that the system’s fail-safe
mode is operating. This means that the system
may not be functioning properly. Have the
