The child safety rear door locks help prevent
doors from being opened accidentally, espe-
cially when small children are in the vehicle.
When the switch (lever) is in the LOCK

position, the child safety rear door can only
be opened from the outside door handles.
To disengage, move the switch (lever) to the
unlock position

WARNING
Do not allow children to play with the seat
belts. Most seating positions are equipped
with Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) mode
seat belts. If the seat belt becomes wrapped
around a child’s neck with the ALR mode acti-
vated, the child can be seriously injured or
killed if the seat belt retracts and becomes
tight. This can occur even if the vehicle is
parked. Unbuckle the seat belt to release the
child. If the seat belt can not be unbuckled or is
already unbuckled, release the child by cutting
the seat belt with a suitable tool (such as a
knife or scissors) to release the seat belt.
Children need adults to help protect them.
They need to be properly restrained.
In addition to the general information in this
manual, child safety information is available
from many other sources, including doctors,
teachers, government traffic safety offices, and
community organizations. Every child is differ-
ent, so be sure to learn the best way to trans-
port your child.
There are three basic types of child restraint
systems:
•Rear-facing child restraint
•Forward-facing child restraint
•Booster seat
The proper restraint depends on the child’s
size. Generally, infants up to about 1 year and
less than 20 lb (9 kg) should be placed in
rear-facing child restraints. Forward-facing child
restraints are available for children who out-
grow rear-facing child restraints and are at least
1 year old. Booster seats are used to help
position a vehicle lap/ shoulder belt on a child
who can no longer use a forward-facing child
restraint.
WARNING
Infants and children need special protection.
The vehicle’s seat belts may not fit them prop-
erly. The shoulder belt may come too close to
the face or neck. The lap belt may not fit over
their small hip bones. In an accident, an im-
properly fitting seat belt could cause serious or
fatal injury. Always use appropriate child
restraints.
All U.S. states and Canadian provinces or terri-
tories require the use of approved child re-
straints for infants and small children. See
Child restraints in the1. Safety — seats, seat
belts and supplemental restraint system sec-
tion for more information. A child restraint may be secured in the vehicle
by using either the LATCH (Lower Anchor and
Tethers for CHildren) system or with the vehicle
seat belt. For additional information, refer to
Child restraints
in the1. Safety — seats, seat
belts and supplemental restraint system sec-
tion.
INFINITI recommends that all pre-teens and chil-
dren be restrained in the rear seat. Studies show
that children are safer when properly restrained
in the rear seat than in the front seat.
This is especially important because your ve-
hicle has a supplemental restraint system (air
bag system) for the front passenger. (See
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) later in
this section.)
INFANTS
Infants up to at least 1 year old should be
placed in a rear-facing child restraint. INFINITI
recommends that infants be placed in child
restraints that comply with Federal Motor Ve-
hicle Safety Standards or Canadian Motor Ve-
hicle Safety Standards. You should choose a
child restraint which fits your vehicle and al-
ways follow the manufacturer’s instructions for
installation and use.

WARNING
•The seat belts, the side air bags and curtain
air bags are most effective when you are
sitting well back and upright in the seat
with both feet on the floor. The side air bag
and curtain air bag inflate with great force.
Do not allow anyone to place their hand, leg
or face near the side air bag on the side of
the seatback of the front seat or near the
side roof rails. Do not allow anyone sitting
in the front seats or rear outboard seats to
extend their hand out of the window or lean
against the door. Some examples of danger-
ous riding positions are shown in the previ-
ous illustrations.
•When sitting in the rear seats, do not hold
onto the seatback of the front seats. If side
air bags and curtain air bags inflate, you
may be seriously injured. Be especially
careful with children, who should always be
properly restrained. Some examples of dan-
gerous riding positions are shown in the
illustrations.
•Do not use seat covers on the front seat-
backs. They may interfere with the side air

•The front-passenger seat is occupied by a
child in a rearward-facing child restraint sys-
tem, the indicator
lamp lights up after the system self test and
remains lit. This indicates that the front-
passenger front air bag is disabled.
If the indicator
lamp remains off and/or the BAG ON> indicator lamp lights up, do not
install a rearward facing child restraint sys-
tem on the front passenger seat. For further
information seeTroubleshooting later in
this section.
•The front-passenger seat is occupied by a
child in a forward-facing child restraint sys-
tem, either the or
indicator lamp
lights up and remains lit after the system
self-test depending on the result of the clas-
sification. The result of the classification is
dependent on, among other factors, the child
restraint system and the child’s build.
Move the front-passenger seat as far back as
possible. See Child restraints earlier in this
section.
•The front-passenger seat is occupied by a
person with a smaller build (e.g. a teenager
or small adult), either the or indi-
cator lamp lights up and remains lit after the
system self test depending on the result of
the classification.
– If the indicator lamp lights up, move the front-passenger
seat as far back as possible. Alternatively,
a person with a small build can sit on a
rear seat.
– If the indicator lamp is lit, a person with a smaller build
should not use the front-passenger seat.
•The front-passenger seat is occupied by an
adult or a person with a build corresponding
to that of an adult, the ON> indicator lamp lights up after the system
self-test and remains lit. This indicates that
the front-passenger front air bag is enabled.
If the automatic front-passenger front air bag
deactivation system is malfunctioning, the red
restraint system warning lamp in the
combination meter and the BAG OFF> indicator lamp light up simultane-
ously. The front-passenger front air bag is dis-
abled in this case and does not deploy during
an accident. Have the system checked as soon
as possible by qualified technicians. It is rec-
ommended that you visit an INFINITI retailer for
this service.

not light up and/or does
not stay on.
The front passenger seat
is empty, or occupied by
a rearward-facing child
restraint system. The automatic front-passenger air bag deactivation system is malfunctioning.
•Make sure there is nothing between the seat and the child restraint system.•Make sure that the entire base of the child restraint system rests on the seat cushion of the front-passenger seat.•When installing the child restraint system, make sure that the seat belt is tight. Do not pull the seat belt tight with the front passenger
seat adjustment. This could result in the seat belt and the child restraint system being pulled too tightly.
•Check that the child restraint system is installed correctly.•Make sure that no objects are applying additional weight to the seat.•If the indicator lamp remains off and/or the indicator lamp lights up, do not install a
rearward-facing child restraint system on the front passenger seat. It is recommended that you fit the child restraint system to a suitable
rear seat.
•Have the automatic front-passenger front air bag deactivation system checked as soon as possible. It is recommended that you vist an
INFINITI retailer for this service.

•Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
•Blind Spot Warning (BSW)

Deactivating/activating VDC
:
The vehicle should be driven with the Vehicle
Dynamic Control (VDC) system on for most
driving conditions.
If the vehicle is stuck in mud or snow, the VDC
system reduces the engine output to reduce
wheel spin. The engine speed will be reduced
even if the accelerator is depressed to the floor.
If maximum engine power is needed to free a
stuck vehicle, turn the VDC system off.

1. Start the engine.
2. Press the
orbutton on the
steering wheel to select the [DriveAssist]
menu.
3. Press the
orbutton to select
[ESP]. 4. Press the button.
The current selection is displayed.
5. To activate/deactivate: press the button again.
VDC is deactivated if the
warning light
in the combination meter lights up continu-
ously when the engine is running.
If both the
warning light andwarning light are lit continuously, VDC is not
available due to a malfunction.
Activating/deactivating Forward Emergency
Braking
:
1. Press theorbutton on the
steering wheel to select the [DriveAssist]
menu.
2. Press the
orbutton to select
[Emergency Brake].
3. Press the button. The current selection is displayed.
4. To activate/deactivate: press the but- ton again.
When Forward Emergency Braking is deacti-
vated, the
symbol appears in the
vehicle information display in the assistance
graphic display. For further information about Forward Emer-

Activating/deactivating Blind Spot Warning
(BSW)
:
1. Press theorbutton on the
steering wheel to select the [DriveAssist]
menu.
2. Press the
orbutton to select
[Blind Spot Warning].
3. Press the button. The current selection is displayed.
4. To activate/deactivate: press the but- ton again.

[Front Passenger Airbag
Disabled See Operator’s
Manual] The front-passenger front air bag is disabled during the journey although an adult or person of corresponding stature is on the front
passenger seat.
Front passenger seat adult occupants who are properly seated and using the seat belt as outlined in this manual should not cause the
front passenger air bag to be automatically turned OFF. For small adults it may be turned OFF, however if the occupant takes his/her
weight off the seat cushion (for example, by not sitting upright, by sitting on an edge of the seat, or by otherwise being out of position),
this could cause the sensor to turn the air bag OFF. Always be sure to be seated and wearing the seat belt properly for the most effective
protection by the seat belt and supplemental air bag.
If additional forces are applied to the seat, the system may interpret the occupant’s weight as lower than it actually is.
1. Stop the vehicle in a safe area away from traffic as soon as possible, paying attention to road and traffic conditions.
2. Secure the vehicle against rolling away.
3. Switch the ignition off.
4. Have the occupant on the front-passenger seat step out of the vehicle.
5. Make sure that the seat is unoccupied, close the front passenger door and switch on the ignition.
6. Observe the indicator lights in the center console and the vehicle information display and check the following.
Seat unoccupied and ignition switched on:
- The and indicator lights must light up simultaneously for approximately six
seconds.
- The indicator lights must then light up and remain lit. If the indicator light is on, the automatic
front-passenger front air bag deactivation system has disabled the front-passenger front air bag (see Front passenger air bag and
status light in the1. Safety — seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint system section)
- the [Front Passenger Airbag Enabled See Operator’s Manual] or [Front Passenger Airbag Disabled See Operator’s Manual] display
messages must not be shown in the vehicle information display.
7. Wait for a period of at least 60 seconds until the necessary system checks have been completed.
8. Make sure that the display messages do not appear in the vehicle information display.
If these conditions are met, the front-passenger seat can be occupied again. Whether the or indicator
light remains lit or goes out depends on how the automatic front passenger front air bag deactivation system classifies the occupant.
If the conditions are not met, the system is not operating correctly.
Have the system checked immediately. It is recommended you visit an INFINITI retailer for this service.
