Some day-to-day and regular maintenance is
essential to maintain your vehicle’s good me-
chanical condition, as well as its emission and
engine performance.
It is the owner’s responsibility to make sure that
the specified maintenance, as well as general
maintenance, is performed.
As the vehicle owner, you are the only one who
can ensure that your vehicle receives the proper
maintenance care. You are a vital link in the
maintenance chain.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
General maintenance includes those items
which should be checked during normal day-to-
day operation of the vehicle. They are essential
if your vehicle is to continue to operate prop-
erly. It is your responsibility to perform these
procedures regularly as prescribed.
Performing general maintenance checks re-
quires minimal mechanical skill and only a few
general automotive tools.
These checks and inspections can be done by
yourself, a qualified technician, or if you prefer,
an INFINITI retailer.
SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
The maintenance items listed underMainte-
nance schedules later in this section are re-
quired to be serviced at regular intervals. How-
ever under severe driving conditions, additional
or more frequent maintenance will be required.
WHERE TO GO FOR SERVICE
If maintenance service is required or your ve-
hicle appears to malfunction, have the systems
checked and serviced. It is recommended you
visit an INFINITI retailer for this service.
INFINITI technicians are well-trained specialists
and are kept up to date with the latest service
information through technical bulletins, service
tips and training programs. They are completely
qualified to work on INFINITI vehicles before
work begins.
You can be confident that an INFINITI retailer’s
service department can perform the service
needed to meet the maintenance requirements
on your vehicle. During normal day-to-day operation of the ve-
hicle, general maintenance should be per-
formed regularly as prescribed in this section. If
you detect any unusual sounds, vibrations or
smells, be sure to check for the cause or have
an INFINITI retailer do it promptly. In addition, it
is recommended you notify an INFINITI retailer if
you think that repairs are required.

Outside the vehicle
The maintenance items listed here should be
performed from time to time, unless otherwise
specified.
Doors and engine hood
:
Check that all doors, the lift gate and the engine
hood operate smoothly. Also make sure that all
latches lock securely. Lubricate if necessary.
Make sure that the secondary latch keeps the
hood from opening when the primary latch is

Steering gear and linkage, axle and suspension
parts, drive shaft boots:
Check for damage, looseness, and leakage of
oil or grease. Under severe driving conditions,
inspect more frequently
Tire rotation:
Tires should be rotated every 6,000 miles
(10,000 km) for 2WD, every 3000 miles (5000
km) for 4WD/AWD according to the instructions
underTire rotation* earlier in this section“Ge-
neral maintenance” in this section. When rotat-
ing tires, check for damage and uneven wear.
Replace if necessary.
Transmission fluid/oil, differential oil, transfer
case oil:
Visually inspect for signs of leakage at specified
intervals. To ensure smooth, trouble-free, safe and eco-
nomical driving, INFINITI provides two mainte-
nance schedules that may be used, depending
upon the conditions in which you usually drive.
These schedules contain both distance and
time intervals, up to 120,000 miles (192,000
km)/144 months. For most people, the odom-
eter reading will indicate when service is
needed. However, if you drive very little, your
vehicle should be serviced at the regular time
intervals shown in the schedule.
After 120,000 miles (192,000 km)/144 months,
continue maintenance at the same mileage/time
intervals.
ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE ITEMS
FOR SEVERE OPERATING SYSTEMS
Additional maintenance items for severe oper-
ating conditions; should be performed on ve-
hicles that are driven under especially demand-
ing conditions. Additional maintenance items
should be performed if you primarily operate
your vehicle under the following conditions:
•Repeated short trips of less than 5 miles in
normal temperatures or less than 10 miles in
freezing temperatures.
•Stop-and-go traffic in hot weather or low
speed driving for long distances.
•Driving in dusty conditions or on rough,
muddy or salt-spread roads.
•Towing a trailer, or using a camper or car-top
carrier.
OIL CHANGE MONITOR
This vehicle is equipped with oil change moni-
tor. It calculates engine oil and filter change
interval base on driving conditions. Driving in
severe conditions will shorten the engine oil
and filter change interval. When the Engine Oil
– Service Due Now warning appears in the
vehicle information display, the engine oil and
filter need to be replaced.
NOTE
For vehicles operated in Canada, both standard
and severe maintenance items should be per-
formed at every interval.
MAINTENANCE SERVICE MESSAGES
The maintenance service interval display in-
forms you of the next service due date.
NOTE
The maintenance service interval display does
not show any information on the engine oil level.

level roads, it is recommended you have an
INFINITI retailer correct the condition. Failure to
correct the condition is misuse of the vehicle, for
which INFINITI is not responsible.
Incorrect ignition timing will result in knocking,
after-run and/or overheating. This in turn may
cause excessive fuel consumption or damage to
the engine. If any of the above symptoms are
encountered, have your vehicle checked. It is
recommended you visit an INFINITI retailer.
However, now and then you may notice light
spark knock for a short time while accelerating
or driving up hills. This is no cause for concern,
because you get the greatest fuel benefit when
there is light spark knock for a short time under
heavy engine load.

ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER
RECOMMENDATIONS
Selecting the correct oil
It is essential to choose the correct grade,
quality, and viscosity engine oil to ensure sat-
isfactory engine life and performance. For addi-
tional information, refer toRecommended
fluids/lubricants and capacities earlier in this
section. INFINITI recommends the use of an
energy conserving oil in order to improve fuel
economy.
Select only engine oils that meet the American
Petroleum Institute (API) certification or Interna-
tional Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) certification and SAE viscos-
ity standard. These oils have the API certifica-
tion mark on the front of the container. Oils
which do not have the specified quality label
should not be used as they could cause engine
damage.
Oil additives
INFINITI does not recommend the use of oil
additives. The use of an oil additive is not
necessary when the proper oil type is used and
maintenance intervals are followed.
Oil which may contain foreign matter or has
been previously used should not be used.
Oil viscosity
The engine oil viscosity or thickness changes
with temperature. Because of this, it is impor-
tant that the engine oil viscosity be selected
based on the temperatures at which the vehicle
will be operated before the next oil change.
Choosing an oil viscosity other than that recom-
mended could cause serious engine damage.
Selecting the correct oil filter
Your new vehicle is equipped with a high—
quality genuine INFINITI oil filter. When replac-
ing, it is recommended you use the genuine oil
filter or its equivalent for the reason described
in “Change intervals”.

When planning to drive your INFINITI VEHICLE in
another country, you should first find out if the
fuel available is suitable for your vehicle’s
engine.
Using fuel with an octane rating that is too low
may cause engine damage. All gasoline ve-
hicles must be operated with unleaded gaso-
line. Therefore, avoid taking your vehicle to
areas where appropriate fuel is not available.
When transferring the registration of your ve-
hicle to another country, state, province or dis-
trict,it may be necessary to modify the vehicle
to meet local laws and regulations.
The laws and regulations for motor vehicle
emission control and safety standards vary
according to the country, state, province or
district; therefore, the vehicle specification may
differ.
When any vehicles are to be taken into another
country, state, province or district, its modifica-
tion, transportation, registration, and any other
expenses which may result, are the responsibil-
ity of the user. INFINITI is not responsible for any
inconveniences that may result. It is prohibited to cover, paint, weld, cut, drill,
alter or remove the Vehicle Identification Num-
ber (VIN).

The vehicle identification number plate is at-
tached as shown. This number is the identifica-
tion for your vehicle and is used in the vehicle
registration.

DOT (Department Of Transportation) Quality
Grades: All passenger car tires must conform to
federal safety requirements in addition to these
grades.
Quality grades can be found where applicable
on the tire sidewall between tread shoulder and
maximum section width. For example:
Treadwear 200 Traction AA Temperature A
TREADWEAR
The treadwear grade is a comparative rating
based on the wear rate of the tire when tested
under controlled conditions on a specified gov-
ernment test course. For example, a tire graded
150 would wear one and one-half (1 1/2) times
as well on the government course as a tire
graded 100. The relative performance of tires
depends upon actual conditions of their use,
however, and may depart significantly from the
norm due to variations in driving habits, service
practices and differences in road characteristics
and climate.
TRACTION AA, A, B AND C
The traction grades, from highest to lowest, are
AA, A, B and C. Those grades represent the
tire’s ability to stop on wet pavement as mea-
sured under controlled conditions on specified
government test surfaces of asphalt and con-
crete. A tire marked C may have poor traction
performance.
WARNING
The traction grade assigned to this tire is
based on straight-ahead braking traction
tests, and does not include acceleration, cor-
nering, hydroplaning, or peak traction
characteristics.
TEMPERATURE A, B AND C
The temperature grades A (the highest), B, and
C, representing the tire’s resistance to the
generation of heat and its ability to dissipate
heat when tested under controlled conditions
on a specified indoor laboratory test wheel.
Sustained high temperature can cause the ma-
terial of the tire to degenerate and reduce tire
life, and excessive temperature can lead to
sudden tire failure. The grade C corresponds to
a level of performance which all passenger car
tires must meet under the Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard No. 109. Grades B and A rep-
resent higher levels of performance on the
laboratory test wheel than the minimum re-
quired by law.
WARNING
The temperature grade for this tire is estab-
lished for a tire that is properly inflated and not
overloaded. Excessive speed, under-inflation,
or excessive loading, either separately or in
combination, can cause heat build-up and pos-
sible tire failure.

WARNING
●The seat belts, the side air bags and
curtain air bags are most effective when
you are sitting well back and upright in
the seat with both feet on the floor. The
side air bag and curtain air bag inflate
with great force. Do not allow anyone to
place their hand, leg or face near the
side air bag on the side of the seatback
of the front seat or near the side roof
rails. Do not allow anyone sitting in the
front seats or rear outboard seats to
extend their hand out of the window or
lean against the door. Some examples
of dangerous riding positions are
shown in the previous illustrations.
● When sitting in the rear seats, do not
hold onto the seatback of the front
seats. If side air bags and curtain air
bags inflate, you may be seriously in-
jured. Be especially careful with chil-
dren, who should always be properly
restrained. Some examples of danger-
ous riding positions are shown in the
illustrations.
● Do not use seat covers on the front
seatbacks. They may interfere with the
side air bag inflation.

by the regulations. Failing to properly secure
child restraints and to use the ALR mode may
allow the restraint to tip or move in a collision or
sudden stop. This can also result in the passen-
ger air bag inflating in a crash instead of being
OFF. For additional information about proper use
and installation, refer to “Child restraints” in the
“1. Safety — seats, seat belts and supplemental
restraint system” section.
If the front passenger seat is not occupied, the
front passenger air bag is designed not to inflate
in a crash. However, heavy objects placed on the
seat could result in air bag inflation, because of
the object’s weight detected by the occupant
classification sensor. Other conditions could also
result in air bag inflation, such as if a child is
standing on the seat, or if two children are on the
seat, contrary to the instructions in this manual.
Always be sure that you and all vehicle occupants
are seated and restrained properly.
If the automatic front passenger air bag deactiva-
tion system detects that:● The front passenger seat is unoccupied, the
indicator
light lights up after the system self-test and
remains lit. This indicates that the front pas-
senger front air bag is disabled. ●
The front passenger seat is occupied by a
properly restrained child up to the approxi-
mate size and weight of a one year old, the
indicator
light lights up after the system self-test and
remains lit. This indicates that the front pas-
senger front air bag is disabled.
If neither the OFF> or the ON> indicator lights light up, or if either
indicator light only lights up intermittently
during the journey, the front passenger seat
may not be used for a child restraint. Use
another seating position for the child re-
straint. For further information see “Trouble-
shooting” later in this section.
●
The front passenger seat is occupied by a
properly restrained child who is larger than the
approximate size and weight of a one year old,
either the or
indicator
light lights up and remains lit after the system
self-test depending on the result of the clas-
sification. The result of the classification is
dependent on, among other factors, the child
restraint system and the child’s build.
Move the front passenger seat as far back as
possible. See “Child restraints” earlier in this
section. ●
The front passenger seat is occupied by a
person with a smaller build (e.g. a teenager
or small adult) , either the AIR BAG ON> or OFF> indicator light lights up and remains lit
after the system self-test depending on the
result of the classification.
– If the in- dicator light lights up, move the front pas-
senger seat as far back as possible. Al-
ternatively, a person with a small build can
sit on a rear seat.
– If the indicator light is lit, a person with a smaller
build should not use the front passenger
seat.
● The front passenger seat is occupied by an
adult or a person with a build corresponding
to that of an adult, the BAG ON> indicator light lights up after the
system self-test and remains lit. This indi-
cates that the front passenger front air bag is
enabled.

If the automatic front passenger front air bag deac-
tivation system is malfunctioning, the
red
restraint system warning light in the
combination meter and the BAG OFF> indicator light light up simultaneously.
The front passenger front air bag is disabled in this
case and does not deploy during an accident. Have
the system checked as soon as possible by quali-
fied technicians. It is recommended that you visit an
INFINITI retailer for this service.
Troubleshooting
Problem Possible causes/consequences and solutions

indicator lamp lights up and remains
lit, even though the front passenger
seat is occupied by an adult or a per-
son with a build corresponding to that
of an adult. ●
Make sure the conditions for a correct classification of the person on the front passenger seat are met (see “Front passenger air bag” earlier
in this section) .
● If the indicator light remains lit, the front passenger seat may not be used.
● Have the automatic front passenger front air bag deactivation system checked as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit an
INFINITI retailer for this service.
The
indicator lamp does not light up
and/or does not stay on. ●
Make sure there is nothing between the seat and the child restraint system.
● Make sure that the entire base of the child restraint system rests on the seat cushion of the front passenger seat.
● When installing the child restraint system, make sure that the seat belt is tight. Do not pull the seat belt tight with the front passenger seat
adjustment. This could result in the seat belt and the child restraint system being pulled too tightly.
● Check that the child restraint system is installed correctly.
● Make sure that no objects are applying additional weight to the seat.
● Have the automatic front passenger front air bag deactivation system checked as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit an
INFINITI retailer for this service.
