if the indication is out of the SP value even a little.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 17.

2.CHECK “B/FUEL SCHDL”
Select “B/FUEL SCHDL” in “SPEC” of “DATA MONITOR” m ode, and make sure that the indication is within the
SP value.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG (More than the SP value)>>GO TO 19.
3.CHECK “B/FUEL SCHDL”
Select “B/FUEL SCHDL” in “SPEC” of “DATA MONITOR” m ode, and make sure that the indication is within the
SP value.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 6.
NG (More than the SP value)>>GO TO 6.
NG (Less than the SP value)>>GO TO 25.
4.CHECK “A/F ALPHA-B1”, “A/F ALPHA-B2”
1. Stop the engine.
2. Disconnect PCV hose, and then plug it.
3. Start engine.
4. Select “A/F ALPHA-B1”, “A/F AL PHA-B2” in “SPEC” of “DATA MONITOR” mode, and make sure that the
each indication is within the SP value.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 5.
NG >> GO TO 6.
5.CHANGE ENGINE OIL
1. Stop the engine.
2. Change engine oil. NOTE:
This symptom may occur when a large amount of gas oline is mixed with engine oil because of driving
conditions (such as when engine oil temperature does not rise enough since a journey distance is too
short during winter). The symptom will not be detect ed after changing engine oil or changing driving con-
dition.

6.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
Check fuel pressure. (Refer to EC-487, "Fuel Pressure Check"
.)
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 9.
NG (Fuel pressure is too high)>>Replace fuel pressure regulator, refer to EC-487, "Fuel Pressure Check"
.
GO TO 8.
NG (Fuel pressure is too low)>>GO TO 7.
7.DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
1. Check the following.
- Clogged and bent fuel hose and fuel tube
- Clogged fuel filter
- Fuel pump and its circuit (Refer to EC-487, "Fuel Pressure Check"
.)
2. If NG, repair or replace the malfunctioning part. (Refer to EC-487, "Fuel Pressure Check"
.)
If OK, replace fuel pressure regulator.

4.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
1. Release fuel pressure to zero. Refer to EC-487, "Fuel Pressure Check"
.
2. Install fuel pressure gauge kit [SST (J -44321)] and check fuel pressure. Refer to EC-487, "Fuel Pressure
Check".
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 6.
NG >> GO TO 5.
5.DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
Fuel pump and circuit (Refer to EC-395, "Diagnosis Procedure"
.)
Fuel pressure regulator (Refer to EC-487, "Fuel Pressure Check"
.)
Fuel lines
Fuel filter for clogging
>> Repair or replace.
6.CHECK MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR
With CONSULT-III
1. Install all removed parts.
2. Check “MASS AIR FLOW” in “DATA MONITOR” mode with CONSULT-III.
With GST
1. Install all removed parts.
2. Check mass air flow sensor signal in Service $01 with GST.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 7.
NG >> Check connectors for rusted terminals or loose connections in the mass air flow sensor circuit or
grounds. Refer to EC-103
.
7.CHECK FUNCTION OF FUEL INJECTOR
With CONSULT-III
1. Start engine.
2. Perform “POWER BALANCE” in “A CTIVE TEST” mode with CONSULT-III.
3. Make sure that each circuit produces a momentary engine speed drop.
Without CONSULT-III
1. Start engine. At idling: Approximately 350 kPa (3.57 kg/cm
2, 51 psi)
3.0 - 9.0 g·m/sec: at idling
9.0 - 28.0 g·m/sec: at 2,500 rpm
3.0 - 9.0 g·m/sec: at idling
9.0 - 28.0 g·m/sec: at 2,500 rpm

12.CHECK IGNITION TIMING
Check the following items. Refer to EC-13, "Basic Inspection"

OK >> GO TO 13.
NG >> Follow the EC-13, "Basic Inspection"

13.CHECK A/F SENSOR 1 INPUT SIGNAL
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect A/F sensor 1 harness connector.
3. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
4. Check harness continuity between the following terminals. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
5. Check harness continuity between the following terminals and ground. Refer to Wiring Diagram.

Target idle speed 650 ± 50 rpm (in P or N position)
Ignition timing 15 ± 5 ° BTDC (in P or N position)

If OK, replace fuel pressure regulator.
If NG, repair or replace.
10. Before disconnecting Fuel Pressure Gauge and Fuel Pressure Adapter J-44321-6, release fuel pressure
to zero. Refer to "FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE". At idling:

• The viscous paper type filter does not
need cleaning between replacement intervals.
• Replace the air filter as necessary for periodic maintenance. Refer to MA-8, "

1. Remove the air cleaner case (upper).
2. Remove the air cleaner filter from the air cleaner case (lower).
INSTALLATION
1. Install the new air cleaner filter in the air cleaner case (lower).

REMOVAL
1. Remove the engine room cover using power tool. Refer to
EM-24, "Removal and Installation".
2. Disconnect the harness connector from air cleaner case (upper).
3. Disconnect crankcase ventil ation hoses at resonator.
4. Remove the air duct and resonator assembly and air cleaner case.
5. Remove air cleaner filter and air cleaner case (lower)
• Add marks as necessary for easier installation.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
