2. Measure the continuity between ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) connector E125 terminal 7 and body ground.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> Replace ABS actuator and electr ic unit (control unit). Refer to BRC-116, "Removal and Installa-
tion".
NO >> Repair or replace harness or connector.

CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial communication line for real time application. It is an on-vehicle mul-
tiplex communication line with high data communication speed and excellent error detection ability. Many elec-
tronic control units are equipped onto a vehicle, and each control unit shares information and links with other
control units during operation (not independent). In CAN communication, control units are connected with 2
communication lines (CAN H line, CAN L line) allowing a high rate of information transmission with less wiring.
Each control unit transmits/receives data but selectively reads required data only.

1.CHECK CONNECTOR
1. Turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect the ABS actuat or and electric unit (control unit) connector, and check
the terminals for deformation, disconnection, looseness, and so on. If there is a malfunction, repair or
replace the terminal.
2. Reconnect connector and perform self-diagnosis. Refer to BRC-23, "
CONSULT-III Function (ABS)".
Is
“CAN COMM CIRCUIT” displayed in self-diagnosis display items?
YES >> Print out the self-diagnostic results, and refer to LAN-14, "Trouble Diagnosis Flow Chart".
NO >> Connector terminal is l oose, damaged, open, or shorted.

ON/OFF correctly.

Diagnosis Procedure".

1.CHECK VDC OFF SWITCH
Perform the VDC OFF switch co mponent inspection. Refer to BRC-81, "
Component Inspection".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 2
NO >> Replace VDC OFF switch.
2.CHECK VDC OFF SWITCH HARNESS
1. Disconnect ABS actuator and elec tric unit (control unit) connec-
tor.
2. Check continuity between ABS ac tuator and electric unit (control
unit) connector E125 (A) terminal 38 and VDC OFF switch con-
nector M253 (B) terminal 1.
3. Check continuity between ABS ac tuator and electric unit (control
unit) connector E125 (A) terminal 38 and ground.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 3
NO >> Repair or replace harness.
3.CHECK VDC OFF SWITCH GROUND

Check front and rear brake force di stribution using a brake tester.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 2
NO >> Check brake system.
2.CHECK FRONT AND REAR AXLE
Make sure that there is no excessive play in the front and rear axles. Refer to front: FAX-6, "
On-Vehicle
Inspection and Service", Rear: RAX-6, "On-Vehicle Inspection and Service".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 3
NO >> Repair or replace malfunctioning components.
3.CHECK WHEEL SENSOR AND SENSOR ROTOR
Check the following.
• Wheel sensor installation for damage.
• Sensor rotor installation for damage.
• Wheel sensor connector connection.
• Wheel sensor harness inspection.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 4
NO >> • Replace wheel sensor or sensor rotor. Refer to BRC-114, "
Removal and Installation".
• Repair harness.
4.CHECK ABS WARNING LAMP DISPLAY
Make sure that the ABS warning lamp is turned off af ter the ignition switch is turned ON or when driving.
Is the ABS warning lamp illuminated?
YES >> Perform self-diagnosis. Refer to BRC-23, "CONSULT-III Function (ABS)".
NO >> Normal

1.CHECK BRAKE PEDAL STROKE
Check brake pedal stroke. Refer to BR-15, "
Inspection and Adjustment".
Is the stroke too large?
YES >> • Bleed air from brake tube and hose. Refer to BR-17, "Bleeding Brake System".
• Check brake pedal, brake booster, and master cylinder for mount play, looseness, brake system fluid leakage, etc. Refer to BR-15, "
Inspection and Adjustment" (brake pedal), BR-12, "On
Board Inspection" (master cylinder), BR-10, "Inspection" (brake booster).
NO >> GO TO 2
2.CHECK FUNCTION
Disconnect ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) c onnector to deactivate ABS. Check if braking force is
normal in this condition. Connect connector after inspection.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> Normal
NO >> Check brake system.
