NOTE:Your system can be set to display pressure units
in PSI, kPa, or BAR.
Should a low tire condition occur on any of the four
active road tire(s), you should stop as soon as possible,
and inflate the low tire(s) that is flashing on the graphic
display to the vehicle's recommended cold tire pressure.The system will automatically update, the graphic dis-
play of the pressure value(s) will stop flashing, and the
ªTire Pressure Monitoring Telltale Lightº will extinguish
once the updated tire pressure(s) have been received. The
vehicle may need to be driven for up to 10 minutes above
15 mph (24 km/h) to receive this information.
Check TPM System Message
The ªTire Pressure Monitoring Telltale Lightº will flash
on and off for 75 seconds, and remain on solid when a
system fault is detected. The system fault will also sound
a chime. The EVIC will display a ªCHECK TPM SYS-
TEMº message for 3 seconds. This text message is then
followed by a graphic display, with ª- -ª in place of the
pressure value(s) indicating which Tire Pressure Moni-
toring Sensor(s) is not being received.
NOTE:Your system can be set to display pressure units
in PSI, kPa, or BAR.

If the ignition key is cycled, this sequence will repeat,
providing the system fault still exists. If the system fault
no longer exists, the Tire Pressure Monitoring Telltale
Light will no longer flash, the9CHECK TPM SYSTEM9
text message will not be present, and a pressure value
will be displayed instead of dashes. A system fault can
occur by any of the following scenarios:1. Jamming due to electronic devices or driving next to
facilities emitting the same Radio Frequencies as the TPM
sensors.
2. Installing some form of aftermarket window tinting
that affects radio wave signals.
3. Lots of snow or ice around the wheels or wheel
housings.
4. Using tire chains on the vehicle.
5. Using wheels/tires not equipped with TPM sensors.
NOTE:If your vehicle is equipped with a matching full
size spare wheel and tire assembly, it has a tire pressure
monitoring sensor, and can be monitored by the Tire
Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). In the event that the
matching full size spare tire is swapped with a low
pressure road tire, the next ignition key cycle will still
show the ªTire Pressure Monitoring Telltale Lightº to be
ON, a chime to sound, a Low Pressure message to appear

in the EVIC, and the graphic display will still show the
low tire pressure value flashing. Driving the vehicle for
up to 10 minutes above 15 mph (24 km/h) will turn OFF
the ªTire Pressure Monitoring Telltale Lightº as long as
none of road tires are below the low pressure warning
threshold. The EVIC will also display a ªSpare Low
Pressureº text message, and the graphic display will
show a tire pressure value in place of the flashing low tire
pressure value.
NOTE:If your vehicle is not equipped with a matching
full size spare wheel and tire assembly, it does not have a
tire pressure monitoring sensor in the spare tire. The
TPMS will not be able to monitor the tire pressure. If you
install the spare tire in place of a road tire that has a
pressure below the low-pressure warning limit, upon the
next ignition key cycle, the ªTire Pressure Monitoring
Telltale Lightº will remain ON, a chime will sound, and
the EVIC will still display a flashing pressure value in the
graphic display. After driving the vehicle for up to 10minutes above 15 mph (24 km/h), the ªTire Pressure
Monitoring Telltale Lightº will flash on and off for 75
seconds and then remain on solid. In addition, the EVIC
will display a9CHECK TPM SYSTEM9message for 3
seconds and then display dashes (- -) in place of the
pressure value. For each subsequent ignition key cycle, a
chime will sound, the ªTire Pressure Monitoring Telltale
Lightº will flash on and off for 75 seconds and then
remain on solid, and the EVIC will display a9CHECK
TPM SYSTEM9message for 3 seconds and then display
dashes (- -) in place of the pressure value. Once you
repair or replace the original road tire, and reinstall it on
the vehicle in place of the spare tire, the TPMS will
update automatically.
In addition, the ªTire Pressure Monitoring Telltale Lightº
will turn OFF and the graphic in the EVIC will display a
new pressure value instead of dashes (- -), as long as no
tire pressure is below the low-pressure warning limit in
any of the four active road tires. The vehicle may need to

NOTE:Tighten the gas cap about 1/4 turn until you
hear one click. This is an indication that cap is properly
tightened.
If the gas cap is not tighten properly, the Malfunction
Indicator Light will come on. Be sure the gas cap is
tightened every time the vehicle is refueled.
Loose Fuel Filler Cap Message
If the vehicle diagnostic system determines that the fuel
filler cap is loose, improperly installed, or damaged, a
ªCHECK GASCAPº message will be displayed in the
EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center). Refer to
ªElectronic Vehicle Information Centerº in Section 4 of
this manual. Tighten the fuel filler cap until a ªclickingº
sound is heard. This is an indication that the fuel filler
cap is properly tightened. Refer to ªOnboard Diagnostic
System Ð OBDIIº in Section 7 of this manual for more
information.
WARNING!
A fire may result if gasoline is pumped into a
portable container that is inside of a vehicle. You
could be burned. Always place gas containers on the
ground while filling.
CAUTION!
Damage to the fuel system or emission control sys-
tem could result from using an improper fuel tank
filler cap (gas cap). A poorly fitting cap could let
impurities into the fuel system.

Shifting Into Neutral (N)
Use the following procedure to prepare your vehicle for
recreational towing.
CAUTION!
It is necessary to follow these steps to be certain that
the transfer case is fully in N (Neutral) before recre-
ational towing to prevent damage to internal parts.
1. Depress brake pedal.
2. Turn the ignition key ON, engine off.
3. Shift transmission into N (Neutral).
4. Shift transfer case into N (Neutral).
Hold down N (Neutral) ªpinº switch (with a pen, etc.) for
4 seconds until the LED lamp by the switch starts to blink
indicating shift in progress. Lamp will stop blinking (stayon solid) when Neutral shift is complete. A ª4WD
SYSTEM IN NEUTRALº message will display on the
EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center). Refer to
ªElectronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)º in Sec-
tion 4 of this manual.
Neutral Switch

Hold down N (Neutral) ªpinº switch (with a pen, etc.) for
4 seconds until the LED lamp by the switch starts to blink
indicating shift in progress. Lamp will stop blinking (go
out) when shift is complete. The ª4WD SYSTEM IN
NEUTRALº message will no longer be displayed on the
EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center). Refer to
ªElectronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)º in Sec-
tion 4 of this manual.
5. Shift transmission into P (Park).
6. Start the engine.
7. Shift transmission into D (Drive).

Loose Fuel Filler Cap Message
After fuel is added, the vehicle diagnostic system can
determine if the fuel filler cap is loose, improperly
installed, or damaged. A ªCHECK GASCAPº message
will be displayed in the EVIC (Refer to Section 4 of this
manual). Tighten the gas cap until a9clicking9sound is
heard. This is an indication that the gas cap is properly
tightened.
This message may be temporarily overridden by pressing
either the C/T, STEP, or MENU buttons. However, after
one minute of no customer interaction, the EVIC will
display again the ªCHECK GASCAPº message. The
message will remain displayed until the vehicle diagnos-
tic system can retest the fuel system. The test will
perform the next time the vehicle is started, if the vehicle
was keyed off above 40ÉF (4ÉC) outside temperature and
the following vehicle start is above 40ÉF (4ÉC) outside
temperature. It may be possible to have a message that
will not clear due to the test being disabled due to lowoutside temperatures. If the test is performed and the
problem is gone, the message will disappear.
If the problem persists, the message will appear the next
time the vehicle is started. This might indicate a damaged
cap. If the problem is detected twice in a row, the system
will turn on the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).
Resolving the problem will turn the MIL light off. See
your authorized dealer for service.
EMISSIONS INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE
PROGRAMS
In some localities, it may be a legal requirement to pass
an inspection of your vehicle's emissions control system.
Failure to pass could prevent vehicle registration.
For states which have an I/M (Inspection and
Maintenance) requirement, this check verifies the
following: the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

Windshield Wiper Blades
The rubber edges of the wiper blades and the windshield
should be cleaned periodically with a sponge or soft cloth
and a mild nonabrasive cleaner to remove accumulations
of salt or road film.
Operation of the wipers on dry glass for long periods
may cause deterioration of the wiper blades. Always use
washer fluid when using the wipers to remove salt or dirt
from a dry windshield.
Avoid using the wiper blades to wipe frost or ice from the
windshield. Keep the blade rubber out of contact with
petroleum products such as engine oil, gasoline, etc.
Windshield Washers Ð Front and Rear
On vehicles equipped with a Electronic Vehicle Informa-
tion Center (EVIC), the low washer fluid level will be
indicated. When the sensor detects a low fluid level, the
windshield will light on the vehicle graphic outline and
the ªWasher Fluid Lowº message will be displayed.The fluid reservoir for the windshield washers and the
rear window washer is shared. The fluid reservoir is
located in the engine compartment, be sure to check the
fluid level at regular intervals. Fill the reservoir with
windshield washer solvent only (not radiator antifreeze).
When refilling the washer fluid reservoir, take some
washer fluid and apply it to a cloth or towel and wipe
clean the wiper blades, this will help blade performance.
To prevent freeze-up of your windshield washer system
in cold weather, select a solution or mixture that meets or
exceeds the temperature range of your climate. This
rating information can be found on most washer fluid
containers.
