your smart key, you will not be able to

KIA dealer.
• A maximum of 2 smart keys can be registered to a single vehicle. If you
lose a smart key, you should immedi-
ately take the vehicle and key to your
authorized KIA dealer to protect it
from potential theft.
• The smart key will not work if any of the following occurs:
- The smart key is close to a radiotransmitter such as a radio station or
an airport which can interfere with
normal operation of the smart key.
- The smart key is near a mobile two- way radio system or a cellular
phone.
- Another vehicle’s smart key is being operated close to your vehicle.
When the smart key does not work
properly, open and close the door with
the mechanical key. If you have a
problem with the smart key, contact
an authorized KIA dealer.
This device complies with Industry
Canada Standard RSS-210.
Operation is subject to the following two

If all doors (and tailgate) are closed, the
hazard warning lights will blink (for smart
key, the chime also sounds) once to indi-
cate that all doors (and tailgate) are
locked.
However, if any door (or tailgate) remains
open, the hazard warning lights (and/or
the chime) will not operate. But if all
doors (and tailgate) are closed after the
lock button is pressed, the hazard warn-
ing lights will blink once.D020102BHM-EUUnlock (2)The driver's door is unlocked if the unlock
button is pressed once. The hazard
warning lights will blink twice to indicate
that the driver's door is unlocked.
All doors (and tailgate) are unlocked if
the unlock button is pressed once more
within 4 seconds. The hazard warning
lights will blink twice again to indicate
that all doors (and tailgate) are unlocked.
After pressing this button, the doors (and
tailgate) will be locked automatically
unless you open any door within 30 sec-
onds.

The hazard warning lights will blink twice
to indicate that the tailgate is unlocked.
However, after pressing this button, the
tailgate will lock automatically unless you

then closed, the tailgate will lock auto-

4D020300BHMBattery replacementA transmitter uses a 3 volt lithium battery
which will normally last for several years.
When replacement is necessary, use the
following procedure.
1. Insert a slim tool into the slot and gen-
tly pry open the transmitter center
cover. 2. Replace the battery with a new battery
(CR2032). When replacing the battery,
make sure the battery positive “+” sym-
bol faces up as indicated in the illus-
tration.
3. Install the battery in the reverse order of removal.
For transmitter replacement, see an
authorized KIA dealer to reprogram the
transmitter.
CAUTION
The keyless entry system trans- mitter is designed to give youyears of trouble-free use, howev- er it can malfunction if exposed tomoisture or static electricity. If you are unsure how to use yourtransmitter or replace the battery, contact an authorized KIA dealer.
Using the wrong battery can cause the transmitter to malfunc-tion. Be sure to use the correctbattery.
To avoid damaging the transmit- ter, don't drop it, get it wet, orexpose it to heat or sunlight.
An inappropriately disposed bat- tery can be harmful to the envi-ronment and human health. Dispose the battery according toyour local law(s) or regulation.

THEFT-ALARM SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)D030000AENThis system is designed to provide pro-
tection from unauthorized entry into the
vehicle. This system is operated in three
stages: the first is the "Armed" stage, the
second is the "Theft-alarm" stage, and
the third is the "Disarmed" stage. If trig-
gered, the system provides an audible
alarm with blinking of the hazard warning
lights.
D030100AHM-EUArmed stagePark the vehicle and stop the engine.
Arm the system as described below.
1. Remove the ignition key from the igni-tion switch and exit the vehicle.
2. Make sure that all doors (and tailgate) and engine hood are closed and
latched.
3. Lock the doors using the transmitter of the keyless entry system (or smart
key).
After completion of the steps above, the
hazard warning lights will blink (for smart
key, the chime also sounds) once to indi-
cate that the system is armed.
If any door (or tailgate) or engine hood
remains open, the hazard warning lights
will not operate and the theft-alarm will
not arm. If all doors (and tailgate) and
engine hood are closed after the lock
button is pressed, the hazard warning
lights will blink once. The system can also be armed or dis-
armed by locking or unlocking the doors
with the key from the front doors; howev-
er, the hazard warning lights will not blink
using this method.
Do not arm the system until all pas-
sengers have left the vehicle. If the
system is armed while a passenger(s)
remains in the vehicle, the alarm may
be activated when the remaining pas-
senger(s) leaves the vehicle. If any
door (or tailgate) or engine hood is
opened within 30 seconds after the
system enters the armed stage, the
system will be disarmed to prevent
unnecessary alarm.

following occurs while the system is
armed.
A front or rear door is opened without
using the transmitter (or smart key) or
ignition key.
The tailgate is opened without using the transmitter (or smart key) or igni-

The engine hood is opened.
The horn will sound and the hazard
warning lights will blink continuously for
approximately 30 seconds, and repeat
the horn 3 times unless the system is
disarmed. To turn off the system, unlock
the doors with the transmitter (or smart
key) or ignition key.

4D080100BHM-EEPower windowsThe ignition switch must be in the ON
position for power windows to operate.
Each door has a power window switch
that controls the door's window. The driv-
er has a power window lock switch which
can block the operation of passenger
windows. The power windows can be
operated for approximately 30 seconds
after the ignition key is removed or turned
to the ACC or LOCK position. However, if
the front doors are opened, the power
windows cannot be operated even within
the 30 second period.✽ ✽
NOTICEWhile driving with the rear windows
down or with the sunroof (if equipped)
in an open (or partially open) position,
your vehicle may demonstrate a wind
buffeting or pulsation noise. This noise
is a normal occurrence and can be
reduced or eliminated by taking the fol-
lowing actions. If the noise occurs with
one or both of the rear windows down,
partially lower both front windows
approximately one inch. If you experi-
ence the noise with the sunroof open,
slightly reduce the size of the sunroof
opening.

window switch that controls all the win-
dows in the vehicle.
To open or close a window, press down
or pull up the front portion of the corre-
sponding switch to the first detent posi-
tion (5).

momentarily to the second detent posi-
tion (6) completely lowers the driver’s
window even when the switch is
released. To stop the window at the
desired position while the window is in

inside the vehicle by pulling out the fuel
filler lid opener lever located on the dri-
ver’s door.✽ ✽NOTICEIf the fuel filler lid does not open
because ice has formed around it, tap
lightly or push on the lid to break the ice
and release the lid. Do not pry on the lid.
If necessary, spray around the lid with
an approved de-icer fluid (do not use
radiator anti-freeze) or move the vehicle
to a warm place and allow the ice to
melt.
1. Stop the engine.
2. To open the fuel filler lid, pull out the
fuel filler lid opener.
3. Pull open the fuel filler lid (1).
4. To remove the cap, turn the fuel filler cap (2) counterclockwise.
5. Refuel as needed.

If pressurized fuel sprays out, itcan cover your clothes or skin
and subject you to the risk of fire
and burns. Always remove the
fuel cap carefully and slowly. If
the cap is venting fuel or if you
hear a hissing sound, wait until
the condition stops before com-
pletely removing the cap.
Do not "top off" after the nozzle automatically shuts off when
refueling.
Tighten the cap until it clicks, oth- erwise the Check Engine light
will illuminate.
Always check that the fuel cap is installed securely to prevent fuel
spillage in the event of an acci-
dent.

Do not get back into a vehicle
once you have begun refueling
since you can generate static
electricity by touching, rubbing
or sliding against any item or fab-
ric (polyester, satin, nylon, etc.)
capable of producing static elec-
tricity. Static electricity discharge
can ignite fuel vapors resulting in
rapid burning. If you must re-
enter the vehicle, you should
once again eliminate potentially
dangerous static electricity dis-
charge by touching a metal part
of the vehicle, away from the fuel
filler neck, nozzle or other gaso-
line source.
When using an approved portable fuel container, be sure to
place the container on the
ground prior to refueling. Static
electricity discharge from the
container can ignite fuel vapors
causing a fire. Once refueling has
begun, contact with the vehicle
should be maintained until the
filling is complete.

fully. Failure to follow these guide-
lines may result in severe personal
injury, severe burns or death by fire
or explosion.
Read and follow all warning post-ed at the gas station facility.
Before refueling, note the loca- tion of the Emergency Gasoline
Shut-Off, if available, at the gas
station facility.
Before touching the fuel nozzle, you should eliminate potentially
dangerous static electricity dis-
charge by touching another metal
part of the vehicle, a safe dis-
tance away from the fuel filler
neck, nozzle, or other gas source.

complete, check to make sure the
filler cap and filler door are
securely closed, before starting
the engine.
DO NOT use matches or a lighter and DO NOT SMOKE or leave a lit
cigarette in your vehicle while at
a gas station especially during
refueling. Automotive fuel is
highly flammable and can, when
ignited, result in fire.

screwdriver, etc. Remove the panel in the

If a fire breaks out during refuel-ing, leave the vicinity of the vehi-
cle, and immediately contact the
manager of the gas station and
then contact the local fire depart-
ment. Follow any safety instruc-
tions they provide.
CAUTION
Make sure to refuel with unleaded fuel only.
If the fuel filler cap requires replacement, use only a genuineKIA cap or the equivalent speci-fied for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap can result in a seri-ous malfunction of the fuel sys- tem or emission control system.
Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any typeof fuel spilled on painted surfaces may damage the paint.
After refueling, make sure the fuel cap is installed securely to pre-vent fuel spillage in the event ofan accident.
CAUTION
Do not pull the handle excessively, otherwise the luggage compart-ment area trim or release handle may be damaged.
