Noise and smoke
When inflated, the air bags make a
loud noise and leave smoke and
powder in the air inside the vehicle.
This is normal and is a result of the
ignition of the air bag inflator. After
the air bag inflates, you may feel sub-
stantial discomfort in breathing due
to the contact of your chest with both
the seat belt and the air bag, as well
as from breathing the smoke and
powder.Open your doors and/or
windows as soon as possible after
impact in order to reduce discom-
fort and prevent prolonged expo-
sure to the smoke and powder.
Though smoke and powder are non-
toxic, it may cause irritation to the
skin (eyes, nose and throat, etc). If
this is the case, wash and rinse with
cold water immediately and consult a
doctor if the symptom persists.WARNING- Hot compo-
nents
Do not touch the air bag storage
area's internal components
immediately after airbag infla-
tion. The air bag related parts in
the steering wheel, instrument
panel and the roof rails above
the front and rear doors are
very hot. Hot components can
result in burn injuries.WARNING- Airbag infla-
tion
Sit as far back as possible from
the steering wheel while still
maintaining comfortable con-
trol of your vehicle. A distance
of at least 10" from your chest
to the steering wheel is recom-
mended. Failure to do so can
result in airbag inflation injuries
to the driver.
WARNING
Do not install or place any
accessories near air bag
deployment areas, such as the
instrument panel, windows, pil-
lars, and roof rails.

Operating Conditions
The system enters the ready status,
when Safe Exit Assist is selected
from the Settings menu in the
Infotainment system and when the
following conditions are satisfied:
The vehicle is stopped or the vehi-
cle speed is lower than 2 mph (3
km/h).
The system detects when the
approaching vehicle move over 3
mph (5 km/h) speed within detec-
tion range. Because the detection
range and speed may changes by
the system operation condition,
always pay attention to nearby traf-
fic condition.
This system works for ten minutes
even after the ignition is turned off.
The system will be released as
soon as the vehicle doors are
locked with the smart key.
WARNING
Safe Exit Assist may not oper-
ate normally if there is any
vehicle or obstacle at the rear
area of your vehicle.
Safe Exit Assist may not oper-
ate normally when a vehicle
two lanes next is coming rap-
idly to lane next to your vehi-
cle or a vehicle is approaching
at a fast speed from the rear in
the lane next to your vehicle.
Safe Exit Assist may be acti-
vated later than normal or
may not operate normally if a
vehicle is approaching fast
from the rear of your vehicle.
(Continued)
(Continued)
Safe Exit Assist will not oper-
ate if there is a malfunction
with Blind-Spot Collision
Warning as follows:
- When Blind-Spot Collision
Warning message appears
- When Blind-Spot Collision
Warning sensor or the sen-
sor surrounding is polluted
or covered
- When Blind-Spot Collision
Warning does not warn or
warns wrongly
For more details, refer to cau-
tions and limitations in “Blind-
Spot Collision Warning (BCW) /
Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance
Assist (BCA) “ in chapter 5.

Electric power steering (EPS)
The power steering uses a motor to
assist you in steering the vehicle. If
the engine is off or if the power steer-
ing system becomes inoperative, the
vehicle may still be steered, but it will
require increased steering effort.
The motor driven power steering is
controlled by a power steering con-
trol unit which senses the steering
wheel torque and vehicle speed to
command the motor.
The steering becomes heavier as the
vehicle’s speed increases and
becomes lighter as the vehicle’s
speed decreases for optimum steer-
ing control.
Should you notice any change in the
effort required to steer during normal
vehicle operation, have the power
steering checked by an authorized
Kia dealer. When you operate the steering
wheel in low temperature, noise
may occur. If temperature rises, the
noise will likely disappear. This is a
normal condition.
When the vehicle is stationary, and
the steering wheel is turned all the
way to the left or right continuous-
ly, the steering wheel becomes
harder to turn. The power assist is
limited to protect the motor from
overheating.
As time passes, the steering wheel
will return to its normal condition.
✽ ✽
NOTICE
The following symptoms may occur
during normal vehicle operation:
• The EPS warning light does not
illuminate.
• The steering gets heavy immedi-
ately after turning the ignition
switch on. This happens as the sys-
tem performs the EPS system
diagnostics. When the diagnostics
are completed, the steering wheel
will return to its normal condition.
• A click noise may be heard from
the EPS relay after the ENGINE
START/STOP button is turned to
the ON or OFF position.
• A motor noise may be heard when
the vehicle is at a stop or at a low
driving speed.
• If the Electric Power Steering
System does not operate normally,
the warning light will illuminate on
the instrument cluster. The power
steering system will not operate
and steering effort can increase.
Take your vehicle to an authorized
Kia dealer and have the vehicle
checked as soon as possible.

nate when the vehicle ignition is in
OFF and the smart phone is on the
wireless charging pad in below two
situations.

Check headlamp LED
This warning message illuminates if
the headlamp does not turn on nor-
mally when you attempt to turn the
head lamp on. In this case, have your
vehicle inspected by an authorized
Kia dealer.
Battery discharging due to exter-
nal electrical devices
The vehicle can detect self-dis-
charge of the battery due to over-cur-
rent that is generated by unautho-
rized electrical devices such as
dashboard camera (dash cam)
mounting during parking.
If the warning continues even after
external electrical devices are
removed, have your vehicle inspect-
ed by an authorized Kia dealer.

Battery saver function
The purpose of this feature is to
prevent the battery from being dis-
charged if the lights are left in the
ON position. The system automati-
cally shuts off the parking lights 30
seconds after the ignition key is
removed and the driver’s door is
opened and closed.

Driving your vehicle
The system detects lane markers
and controls the steering wheel by
a front view camera, therefore, if
the lane markers are hard to
detect, the system may not work
properly. Always be cautious when
using the system.
When the lane markers are hard to
detect, please refer to “DRIVER’S
ATTENTION”.
Do not remove or damage the
related parts of the front view cam-
era system.
Do not place objects on the crash
pad that reflect light such as mir-
rors, white paper, etc. it may cause
malfunction of LKA if sunlight is
reflected.
You may not hear warning sound of
LKA because of the excessive
audio sound.
If other beeps such as the seat belt
warning sound are in operation
and override LKA alarming, LKA
beeps may not occur. At high vehicle speeds, the steer-
ing torque needed for assistance
may not be sufficient to keep your
vehicle within the lane. If so, the
vehicle may move out of its lane.
Always obey the speed limit when
using LKA.
If you attach objects to the steering
wheel, the system may not assist
steering.
If you attach objects to the steering
wheel, hands off alarm may not
work properly.LKA operation
To activate/deactivate LKA :
With the ENGINE START/STOP but-
ton in the ON position, press the
Lane Safety button located on the
instrument panel on the lower left
hand side of the driver.
The indicator ( )in the cluster dis-
play will initially illuminate white.
When the indicator(white) was acti-
vated in the previous ignition cycle,
the system turns on without any con-
trol. If you press the Lane Safety but-
ton again, the indicator on the cluster
display will go off.
