Driving your vehicle
When you drive on a road havingpoor traction, such as an icy road,
and have operated your brakes
continuously, the ABS will be active
continuously and the ABS warning
light may illuminate. Pull your vehi-
cle over to a safe place and stop
the engine.
Restart the engine. If the ABS warning light goes off, then your
ABS system is normal. Otherwise,
you may have a problem with the
ABS. Contact an authorized K900
Kia dealer as soon as possible.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
When you jump start your vehicle
because of a drained battery, the
engine may not run as smoothly and
the ABS warning light may turn on at
the same time. This happens because
of low battery voltage. It does not
mean your ABS has malfunctioned.
• Do not pump your brakes!
• Have the battery recharged before
driving the vehicle.
Electronic Stability Control
(ESC) system
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
system is designed to stabilize the
vehicle during cornering maneuvers.
ESC checks where you are steering
and where the vehicle is actually
going. ESC applies the brakes on
individual wheels and intervenes
with the engine management system
to stabilize the vehicle. Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
system will not prevent accidents.
Excessive speed in turns, abrupt
maneuvers and hydroplaning on wet
surfaces can still result in serious
accidents. Only a safe and attentive
driver can prevent accidents by
avoiding maneuvers that cause the
vehicle to lose traction. Even with
ESC installed, always follow all the
normal precautions for driving -
including driving at safe speeds for
the conditions.
WARNING
For maximum protection, always
wear your seat belt. No system,
no matter how advanced, can
compensate for all driver error
and/or driving conditions.

The Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
system is an electronic system
designed to help the driver maintain
vehicle control under adverse condi-
tions. It is not a substitute for safe driv-
ing practices. Factors including speed,
road conditions and driver steering
input can all affect whether ESC will be
effective in preventing a loss of control.
It is still your responsibility to drive and
corner at reasonable speeds and to
leave a sufficient margin of safety.
When you apply your brakes under
conditions which may lock the wheels,
you may hear a “tik-tik’’ sound from the
brakes, or feel a corresponding sensa-
tion in the brake pedal. This is normal
and means your ESC is active.

NOTICE
A click sound may be heard in the
engine compartment when the vehi-
cle begins to move after the engine is
started. These conditions are normal
and indicate that the Electronic
Stability Control System is function-
ing properly.

approximately 3 seconds,
then ESC is turned on.

ESC operation off
ESC OFF stateThere are 2 types of ESC
OFF states; Traction Control
disabled and Traction &
Stability Control disabled.
If the ignition is turned off
when ESC is off, ESC
remains off.
Upon restarting the engine,
the ESC will automatically
turn on again. ESC off state 1
To cancel ESC operation, press the
ESC OFF button (ESC OFF ) short-
ly (ESC OFF indicator light (ESC OFF ) illuminates). At this state, the
engine control function does not oper-
ate. It means the traction control func-
tion does not operate. Brake control
function only operates.
To cancel ESC operation, press the
ESC OFF button (ESC OFF ) for
more than 3 seconds. ESC OFF indi-
cator light (ESC OFF ) illuminates
and ESC OFF warning chime will
sound. At this state, the engine con-
trol function and brake control func-
tion do not operate. It means the car
stability control function does not
operate any more.

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
A vehicle has the tendency to roll
back on a steep hill when it starts to
go after stopping. The Hill-start
Assist Control (HAC) prevents the
vehicle from rolling back by applying
the brakes automatically for about 2
seconds. The brakes are released
when the accelerator pedal is
depressed or after about 2 seconds.
The HAC is activated only for about 2
seconds, so when the vehicle begins
to roll, always depress the accelera-
tor pedal.
Good braking practices
Check to be sure the parking brakeis not engaged and the parking
brake indicator light is out before
driving away.
Driving through water may get the brakes wet. They can also get wet
when the vehicle is washed. Wet
brakes can be dangerous! Your
vehicle will not stop as quickly if the
brakes are wet. Wet brakes may
cause the vehicle to pull to one side.
To dry the brakes, apply the brakes
lightly until the braking action
returns to normal, taking care to
keep the vehicle under control at all
times. If the braking action does not
return to normal, stop as soon as it
is safe to do so and call an author-
ized K900 Kia dealer for assis-
tance.
Don't coast down hills with the vehicle out of gear. This is extreme-
ly hazardous. Keep the vehicle in
gear at all times, use the brakes to
slow down, then shift to a lower
gear so that engine braking will
help you maintain a safe speed.WARNING- Maintaining
Brake Pressure on Incline
HAC does not replace the need
to apply brakes while stopped on
an incline. While stopped, make
sure you maintain brake pres-
sure sufficient to prevent your
vehicle from rolling backward
and causing an accident. Don’t
release the brake pedal until you
are ready to accelerate forward.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
(FCA) system is designed to help
detect and monitor the vehicle ahead
or detect a pedestrian or cyclists in
the roadway through radar signals
and camera recognition to warn the
driver that a collision is imminent,
and if necessary, apply emergency
braking.System setting and activation
System setting
The driver can activate FCA sys-tem by pushing the start button
(engine running) and by selecting :
“AVN →Setup →Vehicle →Driver
Assistance →Forward Safety”
- If you select “Active assistance”, FCA system activates. FCA pro-
duces warning messages and
warning alarms in accordance
with the collision risk levels. Also,
it controls the brakes in accor-
dance with the collision risk lev-
els.
- If you select “Warning only”, FCA system activates and produces
only warning alarms in accor-
dance with the collision risk lev-
els. You should control the brake
directly because FCA system do
not control the brake.
- If you select “OFF”, FCA system deactivates,
FORWARD COLLISION-AVOIDANCE ASSIST (FCA) SYSTEM - SENSOR FUSION TYPE
(FRONT CAMERA + FRONT RADAR)

Take the following precautions
when using the Forward
Collision-avoidance Assist
(FCA) system:
This system is only a supple- mental system and is not
intended to, nor does it,
replace the need for extreme
care and attention of the driv-
er. The sensing range and
objects detectable by the sen-
sors are limited. Pay attention
to the road conditions at all
times.
NEVER drive too fast for the road conditions or while cor-
nering.
Always drive cautiously to prevent unexpected and sud-
den situations from occur-
ring. FCA system does not
stop the vehicle completely
and is not a collision avoid-
ance system.

Prerequisite for activation
FCA system gets ready to be activat-
ed when FCA system is selected on
the LCD display, and when the fol-
lowing prerequisites are satisfied.
- The ESC (Electronic StabilityControl) is on.
- Vehicle speed is over 6 mph (10 km/h). (FCA system is only activat-
ed within a certain speed range.)
- The system detects a pedestrian, cyclist or a vehicle in front, which
may collide with your vehicle. (FCA
system may not be activated or
may sound a warning alarm in
accordance with the driving situa-
tion or vehicle condition. If you
select "Warning only", FCA system
activates and produces only warn-
ing alarms in accordance with the
collision risk levels.)
❈ FCA system may not operate prop-
erly according to the frontal situa-
tion, the direction of pedestrian or
cyclist and speed.
FCA warning message and
system control
FCA system produces warning mes-
sages, and warning alarms, in accor-
dance with the collision risk levels,
such as abrupt stopping of the vehi-
cle in front, insufficient braking dis-
tance, pedestrian or cyclist detec-
tion. Also, it controls the brakes in
accordance with the collision risk lev-
els.
The driver can select the initial warn-
ing activation time in the Settings in
the AVN. The options for the initial
Forward Collision Warning include
Normal or Late initial warning time.
WARNING
Completely stop the vehicle
on a safe location before
operating the switch on the
steering wheel to activate/
deactivate the FCA system.
FCA system automatically activates upon placing the
Engine Start/Stop button to
the ON position. The driver
can deactivate FCA system by
canceling the system setting
on the LCD display.
FCA system automatically deactivates upon canceling
the ESC (Electronic Stability
Control). When the ESC is
canceled, FCA system cannot
be activated on the LCD dis-
play. FCA system warning
light will illuminate which is
normal.

Collision Warning (First warning)
This warning message appears on
the LCD display with a warning
chime. Additionally, the engine man-
agement system intervenes to help
decelerate the vehicle.
The Vehicle may slow down slightly.
It will operate if the vehicle speed is
greater than 5 mph (8 km/h) and
less than or equal to 110 mph (180
km/h) on a forward vehicle.
(Depending on the condition of the
vehicle ahead and the environment
surrounding it, the possible maxi-
mum operating speed may be
reduced.) For pedestrians and cyclists, the
vehicle speed is greater than or
equal to 5 mph (8 km/h) and less
than 40 mph (65 km/h).
(Depending on the condition of
pedestrians and bike riders and
the surrounding environment the
possible maximum operating
speed may be reduced.)
If you select “Warning only”, for FCA system setting, FCA system
activates and produces only warn-
ing alarms in accordance with the
collision risk levels. You should
control the brake directly because
FCA system will not control the
brake.
Emergency braking
(Second warning)
This warning message appears on
the LCD display with a warning
chime.
Additionally, the engine management
system intervenes to help decelerate
the vehicle.
The brake control is maximized just
before a collision, reducing impact
when it strikes a forward vehicle.

The system will operate normally
when such dirt, snow or debris is
removed.
FCA system may not properly oper-
ate in an area (e.g. open terrain),
where any substances are not
detected after turning ON the engine.System malfunction
Check Forward Collision Avoidance
Assist system
When FCA system is not working
properly, FCA system warning light
( ) will illuminate and the warn-
ing message will appear for a few
seconds. After the message disap-
pears, the master warning light
( ) will illuminate. If this occurs,
we recommend that you have the
vehicle inspected by an authorized
K900 Kia dealer.
FCA system warning message may appear along with the illumi-
nation of the ESC (Electronic
Stability Control) warning light.

WARNING
FCA is only a supplementalsystem for the driver's con-
venience. The driver should
hold the responsibility to con-
trol the vehicle operation. Do
not solely depend on FCA
system. Rather, maintain a
safe braking distance, and, if
necessary, depress the brake
pedal to reduce the driving
speed.
In certain instances and under certain driving condi-
tions, FCA system may acti-
vate unintentionally. This ini-
tial warning message appears
on the LCD display with a
warning chime.
Also, in certain instances the
front radar sensor or camera
recognition system may not
detect the vehicle, pedestrian
or cyclist ahead. FCA system
may not activate and the
warning message may not be
displayed.

If you press BCW/BCA button
while 'Active Assist' or 'Warning
Only' is selected the indicator on
the button extinguishes and the
system deactivates.
If you press BCW/BCA button while the system is cancelled the
indicator on the button illuminates
and the system activates. In this
case, the system returns to the
state before the engine turned off.
When the system is initially turned
on and when the engine is turned
off then on again while the system
is in activation, the warning light
will illuminate for 3 seconds on the
outside rearview mirror. If the engine is turned off then on
again, the system maintains the
last setting.
The driver can select the initial warning activation time in the AVN
by selecting “AVN →Setup →
Vehicle →Driver Assistance →
Warning Timing”
The options for the initial Blind- Spot Collision Warning includes
the following:
- Normal:
When this condition is selected,the initial Blind-Spot Collision
Warning is activated normally. If
this setting feels too sensitive
change the option to 'later'.
The warning activation time may feel late if the side/rear vehicle
abruptly accelerates. - Later:
Select this warning activation
time when the traffic is light and
you are driving in a low speed.
However, if you change the warn-
ing activation time, the warning
activation time of vehicle's other
system may also change. Check
the warning activation time before
changing it.

The Driver Attention Warning (DAW),
system is designed to warn the driv-
er of potentially hazardous driving
situations if it detects inattentive driv-
ing practices.System setting and activation
System setting
The Driver Attention Warning sys-
tem is set to the OFF position
when your vehicle is first delivered
to you from the factory.
Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system is set to be in the OFF posi-
tion, when your vehicle is first
delivered to you from the factory.
To turn ON the Driver Attention Warning system, turn on the
engine, and then select 'AVN →
Setup →Vehicle →Driver
Assistance →Driver Attention
Warning' on the AVN. The driver can select Driver
Attention Warning (DAW) system
mode.
- Off : Driver Attention Warning(DAW) system is deactivated.
- Normal Sensitivity : Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system
alerts the driver of his/her fatigue
level or inattentive driving prac-
tices.
- High sensitivity : Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system alerts the
driver of his/her fatigue level or
inattentive driving practices faster
than Normal mode.
Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system mode will be maintained,
as selected, when the engine is
restarted.
