Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge indicates the approx-
imate amount of fuel remaining in the
fuel tank. The fuel tank capacity is
given in section 8. The fuel gauge is
supplemented by a low fuel warning
light, which will illuminate when the
fuel tank is nearly empty.
On inclines or curves, the fuel gauge
pointer may fluctuate or the low fuel
warning light may come on earlier
than usual due to the movement of
fuel in the tank.

Odometer/Tripmeter/TRIP com-
puter (if equipped)
The trip computer is a microcomput-
er-controlled driver information sys-
tem that displays information related
to driving, such as odometer, tripme-
ter, distance to empty, average
speed, driving time, average fuel
consumption, and the ECOMIN-
DER
TMIndicator (ECO ON/OFF)
mode on the display when the igni-
tion switch is in the ON position. All
stored driving information (except
odometer and distance to empty) is
reset if the battery is disconnected.
CAUTION- Low fuel
Avoid driving with an extremely low fuel level. Running out offuel could cause the engine tomisfire, damaging the catalyticconverter.

WARNING - Fuel gauge
Stop and obtain additional fuel
as soon as possible after the
warning light comes on or when
the gauge indicator comes
close to the E level. Running out
of fuel can expose vehicle occu-
pants to danger.

Charging system warn-ing light
This warning light indicates a mal-
function of either the generator or
electrical charging system.
If the warning light illuminates while
the vehicle is in motion:
1.Drive to the nearest safe location.
2.With the engine off, check the gen- erator drive belt for looseness or
breakage.
3.If the belt is adjusted properly, a problem exists somewhere in the
electrical charging system. Have
an authorized Kia dealer correct
the problem as soon as possible.

Tailgate open warning
light
This warning light illuminates when
the tailgate is not closed securely
with the ignition switch in any posi-
tion.
D150316AUN
Door ajar warning light
This warning light illuminates when a
door is not closed securely with the
ignition switch in any position.
D150318AHM
Low fuel level warninglight
This warning light indicates the fuel
tank is nearly empty. When it comes
on, you should add fuel as soon as
possible. Driving with the fuel level
warning light on or with the fuel level
below “E” can cause the engine to
misfire and damage the catalytic
converter.

Malfunction IndicatorLight (MIL) (checkengine light)
This indicator light is part of the
Engine Control System which moni-
tors various emission control system
components. If this light illuminates
while driving, it indicates that a poten-
tial malfunction has been detected
somewhere in the emission control
system.
This light will also illuminate when the
ignition switch is turned to the ON
position, and will go out in a few sec-
onds after the engine is started. If it
illuminates while driving, or does not
illuminate when the ignition switch is
turned to the ON position, take your
vehicle to the nearest authorized Kia
dealer and have the system checked.
Generally, your vehicle will continue to
be drivable, but have the system
checked by an authorized Kia dealer
promptly.

ESC (Electronic StabilityControl) indicator
The ESC indicator will illuminate
when the ignition switch is turned
ON, but should go off after approxi-
mately 3 seconds. When the ESC is
on, it monitors the driving conditions
and under normal driving conditions,
the ESC indicator will remain off.
When a slippery or low traction con-
dition is encountered, the ESC will
operate, and the ESC indicator will
blink to indicate the ESC is operat-
ing.
If this indicator illuminates and stays
on, the ESC may have malfunc-
tioned. Take your vehicle to an
authorized Kia dealer and have the
system checked.
CAUTION- Catalytic converter
damage
If the Emission Control System
Malfunction Indicator Light illumi-nates, potential catalytic convert-er damage is possible. This couldresult in loss of engine power.Have the Engine Control Systeminspected as soon as possible byan authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION- MIL illumina- tion
Prolonged driving with the
Emission Control SystemMalfunction Indicator Light illu-minated may cause damage tothe emission control systemswhich could effect drivabilityand/or fuel economy.

Maintenance
Do not operate the engine in con-fined or closed areas (such as
garages) any more than what is
necessary to move the vehicle in or
out of the area.
When the vehicle is stopped in an open area for more than a short
time with the engine running,
adjust the ventilation system (as
needed) to draw outside air into the
vehicle.
Never sit in a parked or stopped vehicle for any extended time with
the engine running.
When the engine stalls or fails to start, excessive attempts to restart
the engine may cause damage to
the emission control system.G270303AAM
Operating precautions for catalyt-
ic converters (if equipped)
WARNING- Fire
Do not park, idle or drive the vehicle over or near flamma-
ble objects, such as grass,
vegetation, paper, leaves, etc.
A hot exhaust system can
ignite flammable items under
your vehicle.
Also, do not remove the heat sink around the exhaust sys-
tem, do not seal the bottom of
the vehicle or do not coat the
vehicle for corrosion control.
It may present a fire risk under
certain conditions.
WARNING- Catalytic converter
Keep away from the catalytic
converter and exhaust system
while the vehicle is running or
immediately thereafter. The
exhaust and catalytic systems
are very hot and may burn you.

Your vehicle is equipped with a cat-
alytic converter emission control
device.
Therefore, the following precautions
must be observed:
Use only UNLEADED FUEL for
gasoline engines.
Do not operate the vehicle when there are signs of engine malfunc-
tion, such as misfire or a noticeable
loss of performance.
Do not misuse or abuse the engine. Examples of misuse are
coasting with the ignition off and
descending steep grades in gear
with the ignition off.
Do not operate the engine at high idle speed for extended periods (5
minutes or more).
Do not modify or tamper with any part of the engine or emission con-
trol system. All inspections and
adjustments must be made by an
authorized Kia dealer. Avoid driving with an extremely low
fuel level. Running out of fuel could
cause the engine to misfire, dam-
aging the catalytic converter.
Failure to observe these precautions
could result in damage to the catalyt-
ic converter and to your vehicle.
Additionally, such actions could void
your warranties.
