FUEL REQUIREMENTS
Gasoline engine
Unleaded
For Europe
For the optimal vehicle performance,
we recommend you to use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of RON
(Research Octane Number) 95 / AKI
(Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher.
You may use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of RON 91~94 / AKI 87~90
but it may result in slight performance
reduction of the vehicle. (Do not use methanol blended fuels.)

Your new Kia vehicle is designed to use
only unleaded fuel having an Octane

Your new vehicle is designed to obtain maximum performance with UNLEA‐
DED FUEL, as well as minimize exhaust
emissions and spark plug fouling.
CAUTION
NEVER USE LEADED FUEL. The useof leaded fuel is detrimental to thecatalytic converter and will damagethe engine control system’s oxygensensor and affect emission control.Never add any fuel system cleaningagents to the fuel tank other thanwhat has been specified. (Kia recom‐mends to consult an authorized Kiadealer/service partner for details.)
WARNING
•Do not "top off" after the nozzleautomatically shuts off when re‐fueling.
•Always check that the fuel cap isinstalled securely to prevent fuelspillage in the event of an acci‐dent.
Leaded (if equipped)
For some countries, your vehicle is de‐
signed to use leaded gasoline. When you are going to use leaded gasoline,
Kia recommends to visit an authorized
Kia dealer/service partner and ask whether leaded gasoline in your vehicle
is available or not.
Octane Rating of leaded gasoline is
same with unleaded one.
Gasoline containing alcohol andmethanol
Gasohol, a mixture of gasoline and
ethanol (also known as grain alcohol),
and gasoline or gasohol containing methanol (also known as wood alcohol)
are being marketed along with or in‐
stead of leaded or unleaded gasoline.
Do not use gasohol containing more than 10% ethanol, and do not use gas‐
oline or gasohol containing any metha‐
nol. Either of these fuels may cause drivability problems and damage to the
fuel system, engine control system and
emission control system.
Discontinue using gasohol of any kind if drivability problems occur.
Vehicle damage or drivability problems
may not be covered by the manufac‐
turer’s warranty if they result from the use of:

The pre-tensioner will activate not
only in a frontal collision but also in a
side collision, if the vehicle is equip‐
ped with a side or curtain air bag.
The seat belt pre-tensioner system
consists mainly of the following compo‐ nents. Their locations are shown in the
illustration: 1. SRS air bag warning light
2. Retractor pre-tensioner assembly
3. SRS control module
WARNING
To obtain maximum benefit from apre-tensioner seat belt:1.The seat belt must be worn cor‐rectly and adjusted to the properposition. Please read and followall of the important informationand precautions about your vehi‐cle’s occupant safety features –including seat belts and air bags– that are provided in this man‐ual.
2.Be sure you and your passen‐gers always wear seat beltsproperly.
NOTICE
•Pre-tensioners equipped at the
front and rear outboard seating
positions will be activated in cer‐
tain collisions. The pre-tensioner
seat belts can be activated, where
the collision is severe enough, to‐
gether with the air bags.
•When the pre-tensioner seat belts
are activated, a loud noise may be
heard and fine dust, which may
appear to be smoke, may be visi‐
ble in the passenger compart‐
ment. These are normal operating
conditions and are not hazardous.
•Although it is harmless, the fine
dust may cause skin irritation and
should not be breathed for pro‐
longed periods. Wash all exposed
skin areas thoroughly after an ac‐
cident in which the pre-tensioner
seat belts were activated.

•Because the sensor that activates
the SRS air bag is connected with
the pre-tensioner seat belt, the
SRS air bag warning light on
the instrument panel will illumi‐
nate for approximately 6 seconds
after the ignition switch has been
turned to the ON position, and
then it should turn off.
CAUTION
If the pre-tensioner seat belt is notworking properly, the SRS air bagwarning light will illuminate even ifthere is no malfunction of the SRSair bag. If the SRS air bag warninglight does not illuminate when theignition key is turned to ON, or if itremains illuminated after illuminat‐ing for approximately 6 seconds, orif it illuminates while the vehicle isbeing driven, have the system in‐spected by a professional workshop.Kia recommends to visit an author‐ized Kia dealer/service partner.
WARNING
•Pre-tensioners are designed to op‐erate only one time. After activa‐tion, pre-tensioner seat beltsmust be replaced. All seat belts, ofany type, should always be re‐placed after they have been wornduring a collision.
•The pre-tensioner seat belt as‐sembly mechanisms become hotduring activation. Do not touch thepre-tensioner seat belt assembliesfor several minutes after theyhave been activated.
•Do not attempt to inspect or re‐place the pre-tensioner seat beltsyourself. Have the system inspec‐ted by a professional workshop.Kia recommends to visit an au‐thorized Kia dealer/service part‐ner.
•Do not strike the pre-tensionerseat belt assemblies.
•Do not attempt to service or repairthe pre-tensioner seat belt sys‐tem in any manner.

•Improper handling of the pre-ten‐sioner seat belt assemblies, andfailure to heed the warnings not tostrike, modify, inspect, replace,service or repair the pre-tensionerseat belt assemblies may lead toimproper operation or inadvertentactivation and serious injury.
•Always wear the seat belts whendriving or riding in a motor vehicle.
•If the vehicle or pre-tensioner seatbelt must be discarded, contact aprofessional workshop. Kia recom‐mends to visit an authorized Kiadealer/service partner.

CAUTION
If the passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch malfunctions, thepassenger’s front air bag OFF indica‐tor will not illuminate (The passeng‐er's front air bag ON indicator comeson and goes off after approximately60 seconds) and the passenger’sfront air bag will inflate in a frontalimpact even if the passenger’s frontair bag ON/OFF switch is set to theOFF position.In this case, have the passenger'sfront air bag ON/OFF switch and theSRS air bag system inspected by aprofessional workshop.Kia recommends to visit an author‐ized Kia dealer/service partner.

The SRS consists of the following com‐

The SRSCM continually monitors all SRS components while the ignition switch is
ON to determine if a crash impact is se‐
vere enough to require air bag deploy‐ ment or pre-tensioner seat belt de‐
ployment.
The SRS air bag warning light "

about 6 seconds after the ignition
switch is turned to the ON position, af‐ ter which the SRS air bag warning light

" should go out.
WARNING
If any of the following conditions oc‐curs, this indicates a malfunction ofthe SRS. In this case, have the sys‐tem inspected by a professionalworkshop. Kia recommends to visitan authorized Kia dealer/servicepartner.

•The side air bag may deploy when
the rollover sensor detects the sit‐
uation as a rollover.
WARNING
•The side air bag is supplemental tothe seat belt systems and is not asubstitute for them. Thereforeyour seat belts must be worn at alltimes while the vehicle is in mo‐tion. The air bags deploy only in
certain side impact or rollover*1

•For best protection from the sideair bag system and to avoid beinginjured by the deploying side airbag, both front and all rear (ifequipped) seat occupants shouldsit in an upright position with theseat belt properly fastened.
•Do not use any accessory seatcovers.
•Use of seat covers could reduce orprevent the effectiveness of thesystem.
•To prevent unexpected deploy‐ment of the side air bag that mayresult in personal injury, avoid im‐pact to the side impact sensorwhen the ignition switch is on.

WARNING
nNo attaching objects
•Do not place any objects over theair bag or between the air bag andyourself. Also, do not attach anyobjects around the area the air baginflates such as the door, side doorglass, front and rear pillar.
•Do not place any objects betweenthe door and the seat. They maybecome dangerous projectiles ifthe side air bag inflates.
•Do not install any accessories onthe side or near the side air bags.
•Do not hang heavy items on thecoat hooks for safety reasons.

Curtain air bag (if equipped)
Curtain air bags are located along both
sides of the roof rails above the center pillar. They are designed to help protect the
heads of the front seat occupants and
the rear outboard seat occupants in certain side impact collisions.
The curtain air bags are designed to
deploy only during certain side impact
collisions, depending on the crash se‐ verity, angle, speed and impact. The
curtain air bags are not designed to de‐
ploy in all side impact situations, colli‐ sions from the front or rear of the ve‐
hicle or in most rollover situations.

•The curtain air bag may deploy
when the rollover sensor detects
the situation as a rollover.
WARNING
•In order for side and curtain airbags to provide their best protec‐tion, front seat occupants andoutboard rear occupants should sitin an upright position with the seatbelts properly fastened. Impor‐tantly, children should sit in aproper child restraint system inthe rear seat.
•When children are seated in therear outboard seats, they must beseated in the proper child restraintsystem. Make sure to position thechild restraint system as far awayfrom the door side as possible, andsecure the child restraint systemin a locked position.
•Do not allow the passengers tolean their heads or bodies ontodoors, put their arms on thedoors, stretch their arms out ofthe window, or place objects be‐tween the doors and passengerswhen they are seated on seatsequipped with side and/or curtainair bags.

Why didn’t my air bag go off in a colli‐sion? (Inflation and non-inflation condi‐tions of the air bag)There are many types of accidents inwhich the air bag would not be expec‐ted to provide additional protection.These include rear impacts, second orthird collisions in multiple impact acci‐dents, as well as low speed impacts.

•Your vehicle has been designed toabsorb impact and deploy the airbag(s) in certain collisions. Instal‐ling bumper guards or replacing abumper with non-genuine partsmay adversely affect your vehi‐cle’s collision and air bag deploy‐ment performance.
Air bag inflation conditions
Front air bags
Front air bags are designed to inflate in
a frontal collision depending on the in‐ tensity, speed or angles of impact of
the front collision.

Side and curtain air bags (if equipped)Side and curtain air bags are designed
to inflate when an impact is detected by side collision sensors depending on
the strength, speed or angles of impact
resulting from a side impact collision.
Although the front air bags (driver’s and front passenger’s air bags) are de‐
signed to inflate only in frontal colli‐
sions, they also may inflate in other types of collisions if the front impact
sensors detect a sufficient impact. Side
and curtain air bags are designed to in‐ flate only in side impact collisions, but
they may inflate in other collisions if
the side impact sensors detect a suffi‐ cient impact.
If the vehicle chassis is impacted by
bumps or objects on unimproved roads,
the air bags may deploy. Drive carefully on unimproved roads or on surfaces
not designed for vehicle traffic to pre‐
vent unintended air bag deployment.

Air bag non-inflation conditions
• In certain low-speed collisions the air bags may not deploy. The air bags
are designed not to deploy in such cases because they may not provide
benefits beyond the protection of the
seat belts in such collisions.

• Frontal air bags are not designed toinflate in rear collisions, because oc‐
cupants are moved backward by the force of the impact. In this case, in‐
flated air bags would not be able to
provide any additional benefit.• Front air bags may not inflate in side impact collisions, because occupants
move to the direction of the collision, and thus in side impacts, frontal air
bag deployment would not provide
additional occupant protection.
However, side and curtain air bags
may inflate depending on the intensi‐
ty, vehicle speed and angles of im‐ pact.• In an angled collision, the force of im‐ pact may direct the occupants in a di‐
rection where the air bags would not be able to provide any additional ben‐
efit, and thus the sensors may not
deploy any air bags.
