Anti-lock Brake System
(ABS) Warning Light
This warning light illumi‐nates:
• Once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button to the ON
position. - It illuminates for approximately 3 seconds and then goes off.
• When there is a malfunction with theABS (the normal braking system will
still be operational without the assis‐ tance of the anti-lock brake system).
In this case, have the vehicle inspec‐
ted by a professional workshop. Kia
recommends to visit an authorized
Kia dealer/service partner.

Non-operational conditions of
rear parking assist system
The rear parking assist systemmay not operate properly when:
1. Moisture is frozen to the sensor. (Itwill operate normally when the
moisture has been cleared.)
2. The sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as snow or water, or
the sensor cover is blocked. (It will
operate normally when the materi‐
al is removed or the sensor is no
longer blocked.)
3. Driving on uneven road surfaces (unpaved roads, gravel, bumps, gra‐ dient).
4. Objects generating excessive noise (vehicle horns, loud motorcycle en‐
gines, or truck air brakes) are with‐
in range of the sensor.
5. Heavy rain or water spray exists.
6. Wireless transmitters or mobile phones are within range of the
sensor.
7. The sensor is covered with snow.
8. Trailer towing.
The detecting range may decreasewhen:
1. The sensor is stained with foreign matter such as snow or water. (The
sensing range will return to normal
when removed.)
2. Outside air temperature is ex‐ tremely hot or cold.
The following objects may not berecognized by the sensor:
1. Sharp or slim objects such as ropes,chains or small poles.
2. Objects which tend to absorb the sensor frequency such as clothes,
spongy material or snow.
3. Undetectable objects smaller than 1 m (40 in.) in height and narrower
than 14 cm (6 in.) in diameter.
Rear parking assist system
precautions
• The rear parking assist system may not sound consistently depending on
the speed and shapes of the objects detected. • The rear parking assist system may
malfunction if the vehicle bumper
height or sensor installation has been
modified or damaged. Any non-fac‐
tory installed equipment or accesso‐ ries may also interfere with the sen‐
sor performance.
• The sensor may not recognize ob‐ jects less than 30 cm (12 in.) from
the sensor, or it may sense an incor‐
rect distance. Use caution.
• When the sensor is frozen or stained with snow, dirt, or water, the sensor
may be inoperative until the stains
are removed using a soft cloth.
• Do not push, scratch or strike the sensor. Sensor damage could occur.
NOTICE
This system can only sense objects
within the range and location of the
sensors; It can not detect objects in
other areas where sensors are not
installed. Also, small or slim objects,
such as poles or objects located be‐

Daytime running light (if
equipped)
The Daytime Running Lights (DRL) can
make it easier for others to see the front of your vehicle during the day.
DRL can be helpful in many different
driving conditions, and it is especially helpful after dawn and before sunset. The DRL system turns OFF when: 1. The headlight switch is ON.
2. The engine is OFF.
3. The front fog light is on.
4. Engaging the Parking Brake
Headlight leveling device (if
equipped)

To adjust the headlight beam level ac‐
cording to the number of the passen‐ gers and loading weight in the luggage
area, turn the beam leveling switch.
The higher the number of the switch
position, the lower the headlight beam level. Always keep the headlight beam
at the proper leveling position, or head‐
lights may dazzle other road users.

BEFORE DRIVING
Before entering vehicle
• Be sure that all windows, outsidemirror(s), and outside lights are clean.
• Check the condition of the tires.
• Check under the vehicle for any sign of leaks.
• Be sure there are no obstacles behind you if you intend to back up.
Necessary inspections
Fluid levels, such as engine oil, engine
coolant, brake fluid, and washer fluid should be checked on a regular basis,
with the exact interval depending on
the fluid. Further details are provided in L

The steering wheel locks to protect
against theft. The ignition key can be removed only in the LOCK position.
ACC (Accessory)
The steering wheel is unlocked and
electrical accessories are operative.
NOTICE
If difficulty is experienced turning
the ignition switch to the ACC posi‐
tion, turn the key while turning the
steering wheel right and left to re‐
lease the tension.
ON
The warning lights can be checked be‐
fore the engine is started. This is the normal running position after the en‐
gine is started.
Do not leave the ignition switch ON if
the engine is not running to prevent battery discharge.
START
Turn the ignition switch to the START
position to start the engine. The engine will crank until you release the key;
then it returns to the ON position. The
brake warning light can be checked in this position.
WARNING
nIgnition switch
•Never turn the ignition switch toLOCK or ACC while the vehicle ismoving. This would result in loss ofdirectional control and brakingfunction, which could cause an ac‐cident.

•The anti-theft steering columnlock is not a substitute for theparking brake. Before leaving thedriver’s seat, always make surethe shift lever is engaged in 1stgear for the manual transaxle or P(Park) for the automatic transaxle,set the parking brake fully andshut the engine off. Unexpectedand sudden vehicle movementmay occur if these precautions arenot taken.
•Never reach for the ignitionswitch, or any other controlsthrough the steering wheel whilethe vehicle is in motion. The pres‐ence of your hand or arm in thisarea could cause a loss of vehiclecontrol, an accident and seriousbodily injury or death.
•Do not place any movable objectsaround the driver’s seat as theymay move while driving, interferewith the driver and lead to an acci‐dent.
Starting the engine
WARNING
•Always wear appropriate shoeswhen operating your vehicle. Un‐suitable shoes (high heels, skiboots,etc.) may interfere withyour ability to use the brake andaccelerator pedal, and the clutch(if equipped).
•Do not start the vehicle with theaccelerator pedal depressed. Thevehicle can move and lead to anaccident.
•Wait until the engine rpm is nor‐mal. The vehicle may suddenlymove if the brake pedal is releasedwhen the rpm is high.

equipped)
If your vehicle is equipped with a kick
down mechanism in the accelerator

pedal, it prevents you from driving
at full throttle unintentionally by
making the driver require increased
effort to depress the accelerator
pedal. However, if you depress the
pedal more than approximately 80%,
the vehicle can be at full throttle and
the accelerator pedal will be easier
to depress. This is not a malfunction
but a normal condition.
Starting the gasoline engine
1. Make sure the parking brake is ap‐plied.
2.
Manual Transaxle - Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the
clutch pedal and brake pedal de‐
pressed while turning the ignition
switch to the start position.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P (Park). De‐ press the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N (Neutral)position.

3. Turn the ignition switch to STARTand hold it there until the engine
starts (a maximum of 10 seconds),
then release the key.
It should be started without de‐pressing the accelerator pedal.
4. Do not wait for the engine to warm up while the vehicle remains sta‐
tionary.
Start driving at moderate engine
speeds. (Steep accelerating and de‐ celerating should be avoided.)
CAUTION
If the engine stalls while you are inmotion, do not attempt to move theshift lever to the P (Park) position. Iftraffic and road conditions permit,you may put the shift lever in the N(Neutral) position while the vehicle isstill moving and turn the ignitionswitch to the START position in anattempt to restart the engine.
CAUTION
•Do not engage the starter formore than 10 seconds. If the en‐gine stalls or fails to start, wait 5to 10 seconds before re-engagingthe starter. Improper use of thestarter may damage it.
•Do not turn the ignition switch tothe START position with the en‐gine running. It may damage thestarter.
Starting the diesel engine
To start the diesel engine when the en‐
gine is cold, it has to be pre-heated be‐ fore starting the engine and then have
to be warmed up before starting to
drive. 1. Make sure the parking brake is ap‐ plied. 2.
Manual Transaxle -
Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the
clutch pedal and brake pedal de‐ pressed while turning the ignition
switch to the start position.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P(park). De‐
press the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N(neutral) position.

3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON
position to pre-heat the engine.
Then the glow indicator light will il‐
luminate.

•When you turn off the engine, the
vehicle should be stopped.
CAUTION
You are able to turn off the engine(START/RUN) or vehicle power (ON),only when the vehicle is not in mo‐tion. In an emergency situation whilethe vehicle is in motion, you are ableto turn the engine off and to theACC position by pressing the enginestart/stop button for more than 2seconds or 3 times successivelywithin 3 seconds. If the vehicle is stillmoving, you can restart the engine

ACC (Accessory)
With manual transaxle
Press the engine start/stop button when the button is
in the OFF position without depressing the clutch pedal.
With automatic transaxle
Press the ENGINE START/STOP button
while it is in the OFF position without depressing the brake pedal.
The steering wheel unlocks and electri‐
cal accessories are operational.
If the ENGINE START/STOP button is in
the ACC position for more than 1 hour, the button is turned off automatically
to prevent battery discharge.

The warning lights can be checked be‐
fore the engine is started. Do not leave
the ENGINE START/STOP button in the ON position for a long time. The bat‐
tery may discharge, because the engineis not running.
START/RUN
With manual transaxle
To start the engine, depress the clutch pedal and brake
pedal, then press the engine start/stop button with theshift lever in the N (Neutral) position.
With automatic transaxle
To start the engine, depress the brake
pedal and press the engine start/stop
button with the shift lever in the P (Park) or the N (Neutral) position. For
your safety, start the engine with the
shift lever in the P (Park) position.
