If you install an aftermarket HID
head lamp, your vehicle’s audio and
electronic device may malfunction.
Antenna

Your car uses a roof antenna to receive
both AM and FM broadcast signals. This
antenna is a removable type. To remove the antenna, turn it coun‐
terclockwise. To install the antenna,
turn it clockwise.
CAUTION
•Before entering a place with a lowheight clearance or a car wash, re‐move surely the antenna by rotat‐ing it counterclockwise. If not, theantenna may be damaged.
•When reinstalling your antenna, itis important that it is fully tight‐ened and adjusted to the uprightposition to ensure proper recep‐tion. But it could be folded or re‐moved when parking the vehicle orwhen loading cargo on the roofrack.
•When cargo is loaded on the roofrack, do not place the cargo nearthe antenna pole to ensure properreception.

FM broadcasts are transmitted at high
frequencies and do not bend to follow the earth's surface. Because of this, FM
broadcasts generally begin to fade at
short distances from the station. Also, FM signals are easily affected by build‐
ings, mountains, or other obstructions.
These can result in certain listening conditions which might lead you to be‐
lieve a problem exists with your radio.
The following conditions are normal and do not indicate radio trouble:• Fading - As your vehicle moves away from the radio station, the signal will
weaken and sound will begin to fade. When this occurs, we suggest that
you select another stronger station.
• Flutter/Static - Weak FM signals or large obstructions between the
transmitter and your radio can dis‐
turb the signal causing static or flut‐ tering noises to occur. Reducing the
treble level may lessen this effect un‐ til the disturbance clears.

• Station Swapping - As an FM signal
weakens, another more powerful sig‐
nal near the same frequency may be‐ gin to play. This is because your radio
is designed to lock onto the clearest
signal. If this occurs, select another
station with a stronger signal.
• Multi-Path Cancellation - Radio sig‐ nals being received from several di‐
rections can cause distortion or flut‐
tering. This can be caused by a direct
and reflected signal from the same
station, or by signals from two sta‐
tions with close frequencies. If this occurs, select another station until
the condition has passed.

The steering wheel locks to protect
against theft. The ignition key can be removed only in the LOCK position.
ACC (Accessory)
The steering wheel is unlocked and
electrical accessories are operative.
NOTICE
If difficulty is experienced turning
the ignition switch to the ACC posi‐
tion, turn the key while turning the
steering wheel right and left to re‐
lease the tension.
ON
The warning lights can be checked be‐
fore the engine is started. This is the normal running position after the en‐
gine is started.
Do not leave the ignition switch ON if
the engine is not running to prevent battery discharge.
START
Turn the ignition switch to the START
position to start the engine. The engine will crank until you release the key;
then it returns to the ON position. The
brake warning light can be checked in this position.
WARNING
nIgnition switch
•Never turn the ignition switch toLOCK or ACC while the vehicle ismoving. This would result in loss ofdirectional control and brakingfunction, which could cause an ac‐cident.

•The anti-theft steering columnlock is not a substitute for theparking brake. Before leaving thedriver’s seat, always make surethe shift lever is engaged in 1stgear for the manual transaxle or P(Park) for the automatic transaxle,set the parking brake fully andshut the engine off. Unexpectedand sudden vehicle movementmay occur if these precautions arenot taken.
•Never reach for the ignitionswitch, or any other controlsthrough the steering wheel whilethe vehicle is in motion. The pres‐ence of your hand or arm in thisarea could cause a loss of vehiclecontrol, an accident and seriousbodily injury or death.
•Do not place any movable objectsaround the driver’s seat as theymay move while driving, interferewith the driver and lead to an acci‐dent.
Starting the engine
WARNING
•Always wear appropriate shoeswhen operating your vehicle. Un‐suitable shoes (high heels, skiboots,etc.) may interfere withyour ability to use the brake andaccelerator pedal, and the clutch(if equipped).
•Do not start the vehicle with theaccelerator pedal depressed. Thevehicle can move and lead to anaccident.
•Wait until the engine rpm is nor‐mal. The vehicle may suddenlymove if the brake pedal is releasedwhen the rpm is high.

If your vehicle is equipped with a kick
down mechanism in the accelerator

pedal, it prevents you from driving
at full throttle unintentionally by
making the driver require increased
effort to depress the accelerator
pedal. However, if you depress the
pedal more than approximately 80%,
the vehicle can be at full throttle and
the accelerator pedal will be easier
to depress. This is not a malfunction
but a normal condition.
Starting the gasoline engine
1. Make sure the parking brake is ap‐plied.
2.
Manual Transaxle - Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the
clutch pedal and brake pedal de‐
pressed while turning the ignition
switch to the start position.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P (Park). De‐ press the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N (Neutral)position.

4. If the glow indicator light goes out,turn the ignition switch to the
START position and hold it there
until the engine starts (a maximum
of 10 seconds), then release the
key.
NOTICE
If the engine is not started within 10
seconds after the preheating is com‐
pleted, turn the ignition switch once
more to the LOCK position during 10
seconds, and then to the ON posi‐
tion, in order to preheat again.
Starting and stopping the engine
for turbocharger intercooler
1. Do not race or accelerate the en‐ gine immediately after starting.
If the engine is cold, idle for several
seconds before sufficient lubrica‐
tion is ensured in the turbocharger
unit. 2. After high speed or extended driv‐
ing, requiring a heavy engine load,
idle the engine about 1 minute be‐
fore turning it off.
This idle time will allow the turbo‐ charger to cool prior to shutting off
the engine.
CAUTION
Do not turn off the engine immedi‐ately after it has been subjected to aheavy load. Doing so may cause se‐vere damage to the engine or turbo‐charger unit.

ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON (IF EQUIPPED)
Illuminated ENGINE START/STOP
button
Whenever the front door is opened, the
ENGINE START/STOP button will illumi‐ nate for your convenience. The light will
go off after about 30 seconds when the
door is closed. It will also go off imme‐
diately when the theft-alarm system is
armed.
ENGINE START/STOP button

OFF
With manual transaxle
To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or ve‐
hicle power (ON position), stop the vehicle then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
With automatic transaxle
To turn off the engine (START/RUN po‐
sition) or vehicle power (ON position),
press the ENGINE START/STOP button with the shift lever in the P (Park) posi‐
tion. When you press the ENGINE
START/STOP button without the shift lever in the P (Park) position, the EN‐
GINE START/STOP button will not
change to the OFF position but to the ACC position.
Also, the steering wheel locks when the
ENGINE START/STOP button is in the
OFF position to protect you against theft. It locks when the door is opened.
Not illuminated
Vehicles equipped with anti-theftsteering column lock
The steering wheel locks when the en‐ gine start/stop button is in the OFF po‐
sition to protect you against theft. It
locks when the door is opened.
If the steering wheel is not locked prop‐ erly when you open the driver's door,
the warning chime will sound. If the
problem is not solved, have the system checked by a professional workshop.
Kia recommends to visit an authorized
Kia dealer/service partner.
In addition, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position after the
driver's door is opened, the steering
wheel will not lock and the warning chime will sound. In such a situation,
close the door. Then the steering wheel
will lock and the warning chime will stop.
NOTICE
If the steering wheel doesn't unlock
properly, the ENGINE START/STOP
button will not work. Press the EN‐

•When you turn off the engine, the
vehicle should be stopped.
CAUTION
You are able to turn off the engine(START/RUN) or vehicle power (ON),only when the vehicle is not in mo‐tion. In an emergency situation whilethe vehicle is in motion, you are ableto turn the engine off and to theACC position by pressing the enginestart/stop button for more than 2seconds or 3 times successivelywithin 3 seconds. If the vehicle is stillmoving, you can restart the engine

without depressing the brake pedalby pressing the engine start/stopbutton with the shift lever in the N(Neutral) position.
ACC (Accessory)
With manual transaxle
Press the engine start/stop button when the button is
in the OFF position without depressing the clutch pedal.
With automatic transaxle
Press the ENGINE START/STOP button
while it is in the OFF position without depressing the brake pedal.
The steering wheel unlocks and electri‐
cal accessories are operational.
If the ENGINE START/STOP button is in
the ACC position for more than 1 hour, the button is turned off automatically
to prevent battery discharge.

Press the engine start/stop button when the button is
in the ACC position without depressing the clutch pedal.

With automatic transaxle
Press the ENGINE START/STOP button
while it is in the ACC position without depressing the brake pedal.
The warning lights can be checked be‐
fore the engine is started. Do not leave
the ENGINE START/STOP button in the ON position for a long time. The bat‐
tery may discharge, because the engineis not running.
START/RUN
With manual transaxle
To start the engine, depress the clutch pedal and brake
pedal, then press the engine start/stop button with theshift lever in the N (Neutral) position.
With automatic transaxle
To start the engine, depress the brake
pedal and press the engine start/stop
button with the shift lever in the P (Park) or the N (Neutral) position. For
your safety, start the engine with the
shift lever in the P (Park) position.

NOTICE
If you press the ENGINE START/
STOP button without depressing the
clutch pedal for manual transaxle
vehicles or without depressing the
brake pedal for automatic transaxle
vehicles, the engine will not start
and the engine start/stop button
changes as follow:
OFF ➔ACC ➔ ON ➔ OFF or ACC
NOTICE
If you leave the ENGINE START/STOP
button in the ACC or ON position for
a long time, the battery will dis‐
charge.
