If the xwarning light turns on when trav-
elling (with the message on the display) stop
the car immediately and contact a Lancia
Dealership.
Brake pad wear (amber)
The warning light (or symbol on the display )
s witches on when the front brake pad s s how
s igns of wear; under thes e circumstances have
them replaced a s s oon as possible. The dis play s hows the
dedicated me ssage.
IMPORTANT Becaus e the car is equipped with a wear de-
tection system only for the front brake pad s, when thes e
are replaced the rear brake pad s s hould als o be checked
for wear.

Airbag failure (red)
When the key is turned to MAR, the warning
light switches on but it s hould switch off after
a few s econds. The warning light s tays on con-
s tantly if there is a fault in the airbag system.
The dis play will s how the dedicated me ssage.
¬
If the ¬warning light does not come on when
the key is turned to MAR or if it stays on with
the car in motion (together with the message
on the display) there could be a fault in the restraint
systems; under these circumstances, the airbags or
pretensioners may not be deployed in the event of
an impact or, more rarely, they could be deployed
accidentally. Contact a Lancia Dealership to have
the system checked immediately.
The failure of the ¬warning light is indi-
cated by the
“warning light flashing longer
than the expected 4 seconds, which signals
that the front passenger airbag is deactivated. In
addition, the airbag system automatically deacti-
vates the passenger side airbags (front airbag and
side bag). In this case, the
¬warning light may not
indicate failures in the retaining systems. Before
proceeding, contact a Lancia Dealership to have the
system checked immediately.
EBD failure
If warning lights x
(red) and>(amber) are
on at the s ame time with the engine running,
this indicates an EBD system failure or that the
system is not available. Earl y locking of the rear
wheels may occur in the event of sharp brak-
ing, possibly causing the car to s werve.
Drive very carefully to a Lancia Dealer ship to have
the system ins pected immediatel y. The dis play will s how

162SAFETY
Should it be necessary to carry a child on the
passenger side front seat in a rear facing
child restraint system, the passenger side
front airbag and side bag (for versions/markets,
where provided) must be deactivated through the
Setup menu. Deactivation should be verified by
checking whether the warning light is switched on
in the instrument panel. Move the passenger’s seat
as far back as possible to avoid contact between the
child restraint system and the dashboard.
Do not move the front or rear seat if a child
is seated on it or on the dedicated child re-
straint system.
On the sun visor there is a label with suitable
symbols to remind you that it is compulsory to
deactivate the airbag if a rear facing child re-
straint system is fitted. Always comply with the in-
structions on the passenger’s side sun visor (see the
“Front Airbags” paragraph). In Europe the characteristics of children restraint systems
are ruled by the regulation ECE-R44, dividing them into
five weight groups:
Group Weight range
Group 0 up to 10 kg
Group 0+ up to 13 kg
Group 1 9-18 kg
Group 2 15-25 kg
Group 3 22-36 kg
All restraint devices must bear the type-approval data
along with the control mark on a fixed label which must
never be removed in any circumstances. Lineaccessori
Lancia includes child restraint systems for each weight
group. These devices are recommended, having been
specifically designed for Lancia cars.

172SAFETY
Main instructions for carrying children safely:
❍Install the child restraint systems on the rear seat,
which is the most protected position in the event of
an accident.
❍ Keep children in rear facing restraint systems for as
long as possible, until 3–4 years old if possible.
❍ Should a rear facing child restraint system be installed
on the rear seats, it is advisable to position it as far for-
ward as the position of the front seat allows.
❍ If the front passenger’s airbag is deactivated always
check that the dedicated warning light is permanent-
ly switched on on the instrument panel to make sure
that it has actually been deactivated.
❍ Carefully follow the instructions supplied with the child
restraint system itself. Keep the instructions in the car
along with the other documents and this handbook.
Do not use second-hand child restraint systems with-
out instructions. ❍
Only one child is to be strapped to each retaining sys-
tem; never use it to transport two children at once.
❍ Always check that the seat belts do not interfere with
the child’s throat.
❍ Always check that the seat belt is well fastened by
pulling on it.
❍ While travelling, do not let the child sit incorrectly or
unfasten the belts.
❍ Never allow a child to put the belt’s diagonal section
under an arm or behind their back.
❍ Never carry children on your lap, even newborns. No-
one can restrain a child in the event of an accident.
❍ In the event of an accident, replace the child restraint
system with a new one.
Fit the child restraint system according to the
instructions, which must be included.

SAFETY173
2
FRONT AIRBAGS
The car is provided with front airbags for the driver and
the passenger, driver’s knee bag (for versions/markets
where provided) and front side bags (side bags - window
bags).
The front airbags (driver, passenger driver’s knee bag)
protect the occupants of the front seats in the event of
moderate to serious front impacts by positioning the bag
between the occupant and the steering wheel or the dash-
board.
Therefore non-activation in other types of collisions (side
collisions, rear shunts, roll-overs, etc.) is not a system mal-
function.
An electronic control unit will make the bag inflate in the
event of a frontal impact.
The bag will inflate instantaneously placing itself between
the front occupants body and the structures which could
cause injury. It will deflate immediately afterwards.
The front airbags (driver, passenger, driver knee bag) do
not replace but rather complement the seat belts, which
you are always advised to wear, as specified by law in Eu-
rope and most non-European countries.
In the event of an impact, someone not wearing a seat belt
could move forward and come into contact with a bag
which is still in the opening phase. The protection offered
by the bag is reduced in such a case. The front airbags may not be activated in the following sit-
uations:
❍
front collisions against highly deformable objects not
affecting the front surface of the car (e.g. bumper col-
lision against guard rail, etc.);
❍ car wedging under other vehicles or protective barri-
ers (e.g. trucks or guard rails).
Failure to activate in the conditions described above is due
to the fact that they may not provide any additional pro-
tection compared with seat belts, so their activation would
be inappropriate. In these cases, non-deployment of the
airbag does not necessarily indicate a system malfunction.
Do not apply stickers or other objects on the
steering wheel, on the dashboard in the pas-
senger side airbag area, on the side uphol-
stery on the roof and on the seats. Never put ob-
jects (e.g. mobile phones) on the passenger side of
the dashboard since they could interfere with cor-
rect inflation of the passenger airbag and also cause
serious injury to the passengers.
155-182 Delta GB 1ed 26/08/13 11.29 Pagina 173
Page 176 of 291

174SAFETY
The front airbags (driver, passenger, driver’s knee bags)
are designed and calibrated to protect front seat passen-
gers wearing seat belts.
Their volume at the moment of maximum inflation fills
most of the space between the steering wheel and the dri-
ver, between the lower post guard and the knees on pas-
senger side and between the dashboard and the passen-
ger.
The airbags are not deployed in the event of minor front
collisions (for which the restraining action of the seat belts
is sufficient). Safety belts must always be worn. In the
event of frontal impact they guarantee correct positioning
of the passenger. FRONT AIRBAG ON DRIVER’S SIDE fig. 12
This consists of an instantly inflating bag contained in a
special recess in the centre of the steering wheel.
