WARNING
â– Off-road driving precautions
Always observe the following precautions to
minimize the risk of death, serious injury
or damage to your vehicle:
â—ŹDrive carefully when off the road. Do not ta ke unnecessary risks by driving in danger-
ous places.
â—ŹDo not grip the steering wheel spokes when driving off-road. A bad bump could jerk
the wheel and injure your hands. Keep both hands and especially your thumbs on the
outside of the rim.
â—ŹAlways check your brakes for effectiveness immediately after driving in sand, mud,
water or snow.
â—ŹAfter driving through tall grass, mud, rock , sand, rivers, etc., check that there is no
grass, bush, paper, rags, stone, sand, etc. adhering or trapped on the underbody.
Clear off any such matter from the underbody. If the vehicle is used with these materi-
als trapped or adhering to the underbody, a breakdown or fire could occur.
â—ŹWhen driving off-road or in rugged terrain , do not drive at excessive speeds, jump,
make sharp turns, strike obje cts, etc. This may cause loss of control or vehicle rollover
causing death or serious injury. You are also risking expensive damage to your vehi-
cle’s suspension and chassis.

Interior features
â– Registering air conditioning settings to electronic keys
â—ŹUnlocking the vehicle using an electronic key and turning the engine switch to
IGNITION ON mode will recall that key’s registered air conditioning settings.
â—ŹWhen the engine switch is turned off, the current air conditioning settings will automat-
ically be registered to the electronic key that was used to unlock the vehicle.
The system may not operate correctly if more than one electronic key is in the vicinity or
if the smart access system with push-button start is used to unlock a passenger door.
Settings for the electronic key and th e corresponding door can be changed.
Contact your Lexus dealer.
â– Using automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically according to the temperature setting and the ambi-
ent conditions.
Therefore, the fan may stop for a while until wa rm or cool air is ready to flow immediately
after the “AUTO” button is pressed.
â– When the outside temperature exceeds 75 ď‚°F (24 ď‚°C) and the air conditioning system
is on
â—ŹIn order to reduce the air co nditioning power consumption, the air conditioning system
may switch to recirculated air mode automatically.
This may also reduce fuel consumption.
â—ŹRecirculated air mode is selected as a defaul t mode when the engine switch is turned to
IGNITION ON mode.
â—ŹIt is possible to switch to outside air mode at any time by pressing or
.
â– Fogging up of the windows
●The windows will easily fog up when the humidi ty in the vehicle is high. Touching “A/C”
on will dehumidify the air from the outl ets and defog the windshield effectively.
●If you turn “A/C” off, the windows may fog up more easily.
â—ŹThe windows may fog up if the recirculated air mode is used.
â– When driving on dusty roads
Close all windows. If dust thrown up by the ve hicle is still drawn into the vehicle after clos-
ing the windows, it is recommended that the air intake mode be set to outside air mode
and the fan speed to any setting except off.
â– Outside/recirculated air mode
â—ŹSetting to the recirculated air mode temporarily is recommended in preventing dirty air
from entering the vehicle interior and helping to cool the vehicle when the outside air
temperature is high.
â—ŹOutside/recirculated air mode may automa tically switch depending on the tempera-
ture setting or the inside temperature.

GX460_OM_OM60T19U_(U)6-1. Maintenance and care
â– Cleaning the areas with satin-finish metal accents
The metal areas use a layer of real metal for th
e surface. It is necessary to clean them reg-
ularly. If dirty areas are left uncleaned for lo ng periods of time, they may be difficult to
clean.
â– Caring for leather areas
Lexus recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year to maintain
the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
â– Shampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming-type cl eaners available. Use a sponge or brush to
apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not use water. The excellent results are
obtained when keeping the ca rpet as dry as possible.
â– Seat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also check the belts
periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
WARNING
â– Water in the vehicle
â—ŹDo not splash or spill liquid in the vehicle.
Doing so may cause electrical components etc. to malfunction or catch fire.
â—ŹDo not get any of the SRS components or wiring in the vehicle interior wet. (ď‚®P. 38)
An electrical malfunction ma y cause the airbags to deploy or not function properly,
resulting in death or serious injury.
â– Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. Th e instrument panel may reflect off the wind-
shield, obstructing the driver’s view and leading to an accident, resulting in death or
serious injury.
NOTICE
â– Cleaning detergents
â—ŹDo not use the following types of detergent, as they may discolor the vehicle interior
or cause streaks or damage to painted surfaces:
• Non-seat portions: Organic substances su ch as benzene or gasoline, alkaline or
acidic solutions, dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or acidic solutions, su ch as thinner, benzene, and alcohol
●Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument pane l’s or other interior part’s

Maintenance and care
NOTICE
â– Preventing damage to leather surfaces
Observe the following precautions to avoid damage to and deterioration of leather
surfaces:
â—ŹRemove any dust or dirt from leather surfaces immediately.
â—ŹDo not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Park the
vehicle in the shade, especially during summer.
â—ŹDo not place items made of vinyl, plastic, or containing wax on the upholstery, as they
may stick to the leather su rface if the vehicle interior heats up significantly.
â– When cleaning the inside of the windshield
Do not allow glass cleaner to contact the lens. Also, do not touch the lens. ( ď‚®P. 234)
â– Water on the floor
Do not wash the vehicle floor with water.
Vehicle systems such as the audio system ma y be damaged if water comes into contact
with electrical components such as the au dio system above or under the floor of the
vehicle. Water may also cause the body to rust.
â– Cleaning the inside of the rear window
â—ŹDo not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window, as this may cause damage to the
rear window defogger heater wires or antenna. Use a cloth dampened with luke-
warm water to gently wipe the window clean. Wipe th e window in strokes running
parallel to the heater wires or antenna.
â—ŹBe careful not to scratch or damage the heater wires or antenna.

When trouble arises
WARNING
â– Maintenance of the tires
Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be checked monthly when cold and
inflated to the inflation pressure recomm ended by the vehicle manufacturer on the
vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label (tire and load information label). (If your
vehicle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire
inflation pressure label [tire and load in formation label], you should determine the
proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle ha s been equipped with a tire pressure moni-
toring system (TPMS-tire pressure warning system) that illuminates a low tire pressure
telltale (tire pressure warning light) when on e or more of your tires is significantly
under-inflated. Accordingly, when the low ti re pressure telltale (tire pressure warning
light) illuminates, you should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate
them to the proper pressure. Driving on a si gnificantly under-inflated tire causes the
tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure . Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency
and tire tread life, and may affect the vehicle’s handling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS (tire pressure wa rning system) is not a substitute for proper
tire maintenance, and it is th e driver’s responsibility to ma intain correct tire pressure,
even if under-inflation has not reached the le vel to trigger illumination of the TPMS low
tire pressure telltale (tir e pressure warning light).
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS (tire pressure warning system) mal-
function indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The TPMS
(tire pressure warning system) malfunction indi cator is combined with the low tire pres-
sure telltale (tire pressure warning light). When the system detects a malfunction, the
telltale will flash for approximately one mi nute and then remain continuously illumi-
nated. This sequence will cont inue upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the
malfunction exists. When the malfunction in dicator is illuminated, the system may not
be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended.
TPMS (tire pressure warning system) malfun ctions may occur for a variety of reasons,
including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that
prevent the TPMS (tire pressure warning system) from functioning properly. Always
check the TPMS (tire pressure warning system) malfunction telltale after replacing one
or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate
tires and wheels allow the TPMS (tire pressu re warning system) to continue to function
properly.

When trouble arises
Start the engine of the second vehicle. Increase the engine speed slightly and
maintain at that level for approximatel y 5 minutes to recharge the battery of
your vehicle.
Open and close any of the doors of your vehicle with the engine switch off.
Maintain the engine speed of the second vehicle and start the engine of your
vehicle by turning the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode.
Once your vehicle’s engine has started, remove the jumper cables in the exact
reverse order in which they were connected.
Once the engine starts, have the vehicle checked at your Lexus dealer as soon
as possible.
â– Starting the engine when the battery is discharged
The engine cannot be started by push-starting.
â– To prevent battery discharge
â—ŹTurn off the headlights and the audio system while the engine is off.
â—ŹTurn off any unnecessary electrical components when the vehicle is running at a low
speed for an extended period , such as in heavy traffic.
â– Charging the battery
The electricity stored in the battery will disc harge gradually even when the vehicle is not
in use, due to natural discharge and the draini ng effects of certain electrical appliances. If
the vehicle is left for a long time, the battery may discharge, and the engine may be
unable to start. (The battery recharges automatically during driving.)
â– When recharging or replacing the battery
â—ŹIn some cases, it may not be possible to un lock the doors using the smart access system
with push-button start when the battery is discharged. Use the wireless remote control
or the mechanical key to lock or unlock the doors.
â—ŹThe engine may not start on the first attempt after the battery has recharged but will
start normally after the second attempt. This is not a malfunction.
â—ŹThe engine switch mode is memorized by the vehicle. When the battery is recon-
nected, the system will return to the mode it was in before the battery was discharged.
Before disconnecting the battery, turn the engine switch off. If you are unsure what
mode the engine switch was in before the battery discharged, be especially careful
when reconnecting the battery.

WARNING
â– When inspecting under the hood of your vehicle
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury such as burns.
â—ŹIf steam is seen coming from under the h ood, do not open the hood until the steam
has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot.
â—ŹKeep hands and clothing (especially a tie, a scarf or a muffler) away from the fans and
belts. Failure to do so may cause the hands or clothing to be caught, resulting in seri-
ous injury.
â—ŹDo not loosen the radiator cap or the cool ant reservoir cap while the engine and radi-
ator are hot. High temperature steam or coolant could spray out.
NOTICE
â– When adding engine coolant
Add coolant slowly after the engine has cool ed down sufficiently. Adding cool coolant
to a hot engine too quickly can cause damage to the engine.
â– To prevent damage to the cooling system
Observe the following precautions:
â—ŹAvoid contaminating the coolant with foreig n matter (such as sand or dust etc.).
â—ŹDo not use any coolant additive.

GX460_OM_OM60T19U_(U)8-1. Specifications
â– Temperature A, B, C
The temperature grades are A (the highes
t), B, and C, representing the tire’s
resistance to the generation of heat and its ability to dissipate heat when
tested under controlled conditions on a specified indoor laboratory test
wheel.
Sustained high temperature can cause the ma terial of the tire to degenerate and
reduce tire life, and excessive temperature can lead to sudden tire failure.
Grade C corresponds to a level of perfor mance which all passenger car tires must
meet under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 109.
Grades B and A represent higher levels of performance on the laboratory test
wheel than the minimum required by law.
Warning: The temperature grades of a tire assume that it is properly inflated and
not overloaded.
Excessive speed, underi nflation, or excessive loading, either separately or in com-
bination, can cause heat buildup and possible tire failure.
