WARNING
â– Child restraint precautions
â—ŹFor effective protection in automobile accidents and sudden stops, a child must be
properly restrained, using a seat belt or child restraint system depending on the age
and size of the child. Holding a child in your arms is not a substitute for a child restraint system. In an accident, the child can be crushed against the windshield, or between
you and the vehicle’s interior. This may cause death or serious injury to the child in the
event of a sudden stop, su dden swerve or accident.
â—ŹLexus strongly urges the use of a proper child restraint system that conforms to the
size of the child, installed on the rear seat. According to accident statistics, the child is
safer when properly restra ined in the rear seat than in the front seat.
â—ŹNever use a rear-facing child restraint system on the front passenger seat when the
airbag manual on-off switch is on. ( ď‚®P. 53)
In the event of an accident, the force of the rapid inflation of the front passenger air- bag can cause death or serious injury to the child.
â—ŹA forward-facing child restraint system ma y be installed on the front passenger seat
only when it is unavoidable. A child restra int system that requires a top tether strap should not be used in the front passenger seat since there is no top tether strap
anchor for the front passenger seat. Adjust the seatback as upright as possible and
always move the seat as far back as po ssible because the front passenger airbag could inflate with considerable speed and fo rce. Otherwise, the child may be killed or
seriously injured.
â—ŹDo not allow the child to lean his/her head or any part of his/her body against the door or the area of the seat, front, center an d rear pillars or roof side rails from which
the SRS side airbags or SRS curtain shield ai rbags deploy even if the child is seated in
the child restraint system. It is dangerous if the SRS side airbags and curtain shield air- bags inflate, and the impact could caus e death or serious injury to the child.
â—ŹMake sure you have complied with all installation instructions provided by the child
restraint manufacturer and that the system is properly secured. If it is not secured properly, it may cause death or serious injury to the child in the event of a sudden
stop, sudden swerve or accident.
â– When children are in the vehicle
Do not allow children to play with the seat belt. If the seat belt becomes twisted around
a child’s neck, it may lead to choking or othe r serious injuries that could result in death.
If this occurs and the buckle cannot be unfa stened, scissors should be used to cut the belt.
â– When the child restraint system is not in use
â—ŹKeep the child restraint system properly secure d on the seat even if it is not in use. Do not store the child restraint system un secured in the passenger compartment.
â—ŹIf it is necessary to detach the child restraint system, remove it from the vehicle or
store it securely in the trunk. This will prevent it from injuring passengers in the event
of a sudden stop, sudden swerve or accident.

Remove the head restraint if it inter-
feres with your child restraint system.
Secure the child restraint system
using the seat belt or ISOFIX rigid
anchors.
Open the anchor bracket cover,
latch the hook onto the anchor
bracket and tighten the top strap.
Make sure the top strap is securely latched.
â– When installing a child restraint system
You need a locking clip to in stall the child restraint system. Follow the instructions pro-
vided by the manufacturer of the system. If yo ur child restraint system does not provide a
locking clip, you can purchase the following item from any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer:

WARNING
â– When installing a child restraint system
Follow the directions given in the child rest raint system installation manual and fix the
child restraint system securely in place.
If the child restraint system is not correctly fixed in place, the child or other passengers may be seriously injured or even killed in th e event of a sudden braking, sudden swerv-
ing or an accident.
●If the driver’s seat interferes with the child restraint system and prevents it from being
attached correctly, atta ch the child restraint
system to the right-hand rear seat (left-hand drive vehicles) or the left-hand rear seat
(right-hand drive vehicles).
â—ŹAdjust the front passenger seat so that it does not interfere with the child restraint system.
â—ŹWhen installing a forward-facing child
restraint system on the front passenger seat, move the seat as far back as possible.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious
injury if the airbags deploy (inflate).

WARNING
â– When installing a child restraint system
â—ŹNever use a rear-facing child restraint system
on the front passenger seat when the airbag
manual on-off switch is on. ( ď‚®P. 53)
The force of the rapid inflation of the front
passenger airbag can cause death or serious
injury to children in the event of an accident.
There is a label(s) on the passenger side sun visor, indicating it is forbidden to attach a
rear-facing child restrain t system to the front
passenger seat.
Details of the label(s) are shown in the illus-
tration below.

WARNING
â– When installing a child restraint system
â—ŹIf child restraint system regulations exist in the country where you reside, please con-
tact any authorized Lexus retailer or Le xus authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer for the child rest raint system installation.
â—ŹWhen a junior seat is installed, always ensure that the shoulder belt is positioned
across the center of the child’s shoulder. The belt should be kept away from the child’s
neck, but not so that it could fall off the ch ild’s shoulder. Failing to do so may result in death or serious injury in the event of su dden braking, sudden swerving or an acci-
dent.
â—ŹEnsure that the belt and plate are securely locked and the seat belt is not twisted.
â—ŹShake the child restraint system left and right, and forward and backward to ensure
that it has been securely installed.
â—ŹAfter securing a child restraint system, never adjust the seat.
â—ŹFollow all installation instructions provided by the child restraint system manufacturer.
â– To correctly attach a child restraint system to the anchors
When using the lower anchors, be sure that there are no foreign objects around the anchors and that the seat belt is not caught behind the child restraint system. Make sure
the child restraint system is securely attached , or it may cause death or serious injury to
the child or other passengers in the event of a sudden braking, sudden swerve or an accident.

Exhaust gas precautions
Harmful substance to the human body is included in exhaust gases if inhaled.
WARNING
Exhaust gases include harmful carbon monoxide (CO), which is colorless and odorless. Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause exhaust gases enter the vehicle and may lead to an accident
caused by light-headedness, or may lead to death or a serious health hazard.
â– Important points while driving
â—ŹKeep the trunk lid closed.
â—ŹIf you smell exhaust gases in the vehicle even when the trunk lid is closed, open the windows and have the vehicle inspected at any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus
authorized repairer, or any reliab le repairer as soon as possible.
â– When parking
â—ŹIf the vehicle is in a poorly ventilated area or a closed area, such as a garage, stop the
hybrid system.
â—ŹDo not leave the vehicle with the hybrid system on for a long time. If such a situation cannot be avoided, park the vehicle in an open space and ensure
that exhaust fumes do not enter the vehicle interior.
â—ŹDo not leave the hybrid system operating in an area with snow build-up, or where it is snowing. If snowbanks build up around the vehicle while the hybrid system is operat-
ing, exhaust gases may collect and enter the vehicle.
â– Exhaust pipe
The exhaust system needs to be checked periodically. If there is a hole or crack caused
by corrosion, damage to a joint or abnormal exhaust noise, be sure to have the vehicle
inspected and repaired by any authorized Le xus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

â– Regenerative braking
In the following situations, ki netic energy is converted to electric energy and decelera-
tion force can be obtained in conjunction with the recharging of the hybrid battery (trac- tion battery).
â—ŹThe accelerator pedal is released while driving with the shift lever in D or S.
â—ŹThe brake pedal is depressed while driving with the shift lever in D or S.
â– EV indicator
â– Conditions in which the gasoline engine may not stop
The gasoline engine starts and stops automati cally. However, it may not stop automati- cally in the following conditions:
â—ŹDuring gasoline engine warm-up
â—ŹDuring hybrid battery (traction battery) charging
â—ŹWhen the temperature of the hybrid battery (traction battery) is high or low
â—ŹWhen the heater is switched on
â– Charging the hybrid battery (traction battery)
As the gasoline engine charges the hybrid ba ttery (traction battery), the battery does not
need to be charged from an ou tside source. However, if the vehicle is left parked for a
long time the hybrid battery (traction batter y) will slowly discharge. For this reason, be sure to drive the vehicle at least once every few months for at least 30 minutes or 16 km
(10 miles). If the hybrid battery (traction battery) becomes fully discharged and you are
unable to start the hybrid system, contact any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus autho- rized repairer, or an y reliable repairer.
â– Charging the 12-volt battery
ď‚® P. 633
The EV indicator comes on when the vehicle is driven using only the electric motor (traction
motor) or the gasoline engine is stopped.

â– After the 12-volt battery has discharged or when the terminal has been removed and
installed during exchange, etc.
The gasoline engine may not stop even if the vehicle is being driven by the hybrid battery
(traction battery). If this continues for a few days, contact any authorized Lexus retailer or
Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
â– Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle
There may be no engine sound or vibration even though the vehicle is able to move with
the “READY” indicator is illuminated. For sa fety, apply the parking brake and make sure to shift the shift lever to P when parked.
The following sounds or vibrations may occu r when the hybrid system is operating and
are not a malfunction:
â—ŹMotor sounds may be heard from under the vehicle.
â—ŹSounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) behind the rear seats
when the hybrid system starts or stops.
â—ŹRelay operating sounds such as a snap or so ft clank will be emitted from the hybrid bat-
tery (traction battery), under the rear seats, when the hybrid system is started or
stopped.
â—ŹSounds from the hybrid system may be heard when the trunk lid is open.
â—ŹSounds may be heard from the transmission when the gasoline engine starts or stops,
when driving at low speeds, or during idling.
â—ŹEngine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply.
â—ŹSounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the brake pedal is depressed
or as the accelerator pedal is released.
â—ŹVibration may be felt when the ga soline engine starts or stops.
â—ŹCooling fan sounds may be heard from the air intake vents on the both sides of the rear
seatback.
â– Maintenance, repair, re cycling, and disposal
Contact any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer regarding maintenance, repair, recycling and disposal. Do not dispose of the
vehicle yourself.
â– Customization
Settings (e.g. on/off operation of the EV indicator) can be changed.
