If your Lexus is transported by a
flatbed truck, it should be tied
down at the locations shown in the
illustration.
If you use chains or cables to tie
down your vehicle, the angles
shaded in black must be 45  .
Do not overly tighten the tie downs
or the vehicle may be damaged.

If a tow truck is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be tem-
porarily towed using a cable or chain secured to the emergency towing
hook. This should only be attempted on hard surfaced roads for 50 miles
(80 km) at low speeds.
A driver must be in the vehicle to steer and operate the brakes. The vehi-
cle’s wheels, drive train, axles, steer ing and brakes must be in good con-
dition.

Securely attach a cable or chain to the towing hook.
Take care not to damage the vehicle body.
Enter the vehicle being towed and start the engine.
If the engine does not start, turn the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch to IGNITION ON mode.
Shift the four-wheel drive control switch to “H4”. (The center dif-
ferential is unlocked.)
Change the vehicle height to N (standard) mode and press the
height control OFF button to en d the vehicle height operation.

Shift the shift lever to N and release the parking brake.

While towing
If the engine is not running, the power assist for the brakes and steering will not
function, making steering and braking more difficult. ■

While towing ●
When towing using cables or chains, avoi d sudden starts, etc. which place exces-
sive stress on the towing hook, cables or chains.
The towing hook, cables or chains may become damaged, broken debris may hit
people and cause serious damage. ●
Do not turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to the off.
There is a possibility that the steering wheel is locked and cannot be operated.■
Installing towing hook to the vehicle
Make sure that towing h ook are installed securely.
If not securely installed, towing hook may come loose during towing. Be sure to transport the vehicle with all four
wheels raised off the ground.
If the vehicle is towed with the tires contact-
ing the ground, the drivet rain or related parts
may be damaged, the vehicle may fly off the
truck.

Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear. Do not use the rear emergency towing hook.

adjustment or repair. Contact your Lexus dealer as soon as possible.
■ Visible symptoms
● Fluid leaks under the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air conditioning after use is normal.)
● Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
● Engine coolant temperature gaug e needle continually points
higher than normal
● Engine oil pressure gauge continually points lower than normal.
● Voltmeter continually points higher or lower than normal.
■ Audible symptoms
● Changes in exhaust sound
● Excessive tire squeal when cornering
● Strange noises related to the suspension system
● Pinging or other noises related to the engine
■ Operational symptoms
● Engine missing, stumbling or running rough
● Appreciable loss of power
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when driving on a level road
● Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touches
the floor

vated.
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP ” switch to ACCESSORY mode
or OFF.
Restart the engine. NOTICE■
Before starting the engine
Inspect the ground under the vehicle.
If you find that fuel has leaked on to th e ground, the fuel system has been damaged
and is in need of repair. Do not restart the engine.To minimize the risk of fuel leakage wh en the engine stalls or when an air-
bag inflates upon collision, the fuel pu mp shut off system stops the supply of

If a warning light turns on or a warning buzzer sounds...Stop the vehicle immediately. Continui ng to drive the vehicle may be
dangerous.
The following warning in dicates a possible prob lem in the brake system.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a sa fe place and contact your Lexus
dealer.
* : Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:
A buzzer sounds to indicate that the parking brake is still engaged (with the
vehicle having reached a speed of 3 mph [5 km/h]).
Stop the vehicle immediately.
The following warning indicates the po ssibility of damage to the vehicle
that may lead to an accident. Immedia tely stop the vehicle in a safe place

*•Low brake fluid
• Malfunction in the brake system
This light also comes on when the parking brake is not
released. If the light turns off after the parking brake is fully
released the system is operating normally.

Charging system warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s charging system.Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning lights turn on or
flash. If a light turns on or flashes, bu t then turns off, this does not necessar-
ily indicate a malfunction in the system. However, if this continues to occur,
have the vehicle inspecte d by your Lexus dealer.

Failing to investigate the ca use of the following warn ings may lead to the
system operating abnormally and possi bly cause an accident. Have the

Indicates a malfunction in:
• The emission control system;
• The electronic engine control system;
• The electronic throttle control system; or
• The electronic automatic transmission control system.
SRS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The SRS airbag system;
• The front passenger occupant classification system; or
• The seat belt pretensioner system.

Indicates a malfunction in:
•The ABS; or
• The brake assist system.
(Comes on or
flashes) Pre-collision system warning light (if equipped)
Indicates:
• Malfunction in the pre-collision system if the light comes on.
• The system cannot temporarily be used if the light flashes.

After taking the specified steps to co rrect the suspected problem, check
that the warning light turns off. Slip indicator light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The VSC;
• Trailer sway control;
• The Active TRAC;
• The hill-start assist control system;
• Crawl Control system; or
• Multi-terrain select.
