NOTICE
■When an electronic key is lost
If the electronic key remains lost, the risk of vehicle theft increases significantly. Visit any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional immediately with all remaining el ectronic keys and the card key that were provided with your vehicle.
■Handling the card key (if equipped)
●Do not apply excess force when inserting the mechanical key into the card key. Doingso may damage the card key.
●If the battery or card key terminals get wet, the battery may corrode.
If the key is dropped into wate r, or if drinking water etc. is spilled on the key, immedi- ately remove the battery cover and wipe the battery and terminals. (To remove thebattery cover, lightly grasp and pull it.) If the battery is corroded, have any authorized
Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional replace the battery.
●Do not crush the battery cover or use a screwdriver to remove the battery cover.
Forcibly removing the battery co ver may bend or damage the key.
●If the battery cover is frequently removed, the battery cover may become loose.
●When installing the battery, make sure to check the direction of the battery.
Installing the battery in the wrong direction may cause the battery to deplete rapidly.
●The surface of the card key may be damaged, or its coating may peel off in the follow- ing situations:
• The card key is carried together with hard objects, such as coins and keys. • The card key is scraped with a sharp object, such as the tip of a mechanical pencil.• The surface of the card key is wiped with thinner or benzene.

Make sure to touch the sensor on the back of the handle.

■Electronic Key Battery-Saving Function
When battery-saving mode is set, battery depl etion is minimized by stopping the elec- tronic key from receiving radio waves.
■Conditions affecting operation
The smart entry & start system uses weak ra dio waves. In the following situations, the communication between the electronic key an d the vehicle may be affected, preventing the smart entry & start system, wireless remote control and immobilizer system from
operating properly. (Ways of coping: P. 578)
●When the electronic key battery is depleted
●Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large display, airport or
other facility that gene rates strong radio waves or electrical noise
●When carrying a portable radio, cellular phone, cordless phone or other wireless com- munication device
●When the electronic key is in contact wi th, or is covered by the following metallic objects
• Cards to which aluminum foil is attached
• Cigarette boxes that have aluminum foil inside • Metallic wallets or bags•Coins
• Hand warmers made of metal • Media such as CDs and DVDs
●When other wireless keys (that emit radio waves) are being used nearby
●When carrying the electronic key together with the following devices that emit radiowaves
• Another vehicle’s electronic key or a wireless key that emits radio waves • Personal computers or personal digital assistants (PDAs)• Digital audio players
• Portable game systems
●If window tint with a metallic content or me tallic objects are attached to the rear win-
dow
●When the electronic key is placed near a battery charger or electronic devices
Press twice while pressing and holding
. Confirm that the electronic key indica-
tor flashes 4 times.
While the battery-saving mode is set, the smart entry & start system cannot be used. To cancelthe function, press any of the electronic key but-
tons.

WARNING
■Caution regarding interference with electronic devices
●People with implantable cardiac pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy- pacemakers or implantable cardioverter de fibrillators should maintain a reasonable
distance between themselves and the smart entry & start system antennas. ( P. 155) The radio waves may affect the operation of such devices. If necessary, the entryfunction can be disabled. Ask any authoriz ed Lexus dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional for details, such as the frequency of radio waves and timing of the emitted radio waves. Then, consult your doctor to see if you should disable the entry function.
●Users of any electrical medical device other than implantable cardiac pacemakers,cardiac resynchronization therapy-pacemakers or implantable cardioverterdefibrillators should consult the manufacturer of the device for information about its
operation under the influence of radio waves. Radio waves could have unexpected effects on the operation of such medicaldevices.
Ask any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional for details on disabling the entry function.

■The power windows can be operated when
The power switch is in ON mode.
■Operating the power windows after turning the hybrid system off
The power windows can be operated for approximately 45 seconds after the power
switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off. They cannot, however, be oper- ated once either door is opened.
■Jam protection function
If an object becomes jammed between the window and the window frame while the win- dow is closing, window movement is stop ped and the window is opened slightly.
■Catch protection function
If an object becomes caught between the door and window while the window is opening, window movement is stopped.
■When the window cannot be opened or closed
When the jam protection function or catch protection function operates unusually and the door window cannot be opened or closed , perform the following operations with the power window switch of that door.
●Stop the vehicle. With the power switch in ON mode, within 4 seconds of the jam pro-tection function or catch protection function activating, continuously operate thepower window switch in the one-touch clos ing direction or one-touch opening direc-
tion so that the door window can be opened and closed.
●If the door window cannot be opened and closed even when performing the above operations, perform the following pr ocedure for function initialization.
Turn the power switch to ON mode.
Pull and hold the power window switch in the one-touch closing direction and com- pletely close the door window.
Release the power window switch for a moment, resume pulling the switch in the one-touch closing direction, and hold it there for approximately 6 seconds or more.
Press and hold the power window switch in the one-touch opening direction. After
the door window is completely opened, cont inue holding the switch for an additional 1 second or more.
Release the power window switch for a mome nt, resume pushing the switch in the
one-touch opening direction, and hold it there for approximately 4 seconds or more.
Pull and hold the power window switch in the one-touch closing direction again.
After the door window is completely clos ed, continue holding the switch for a fur- ther 1 second or more.
If you release the switch while the window is moving, start again from the beginning. If the window reverses and cannot be fully closed or opened, have the vehicle inspectedby any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer , or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.

■Door lock linked window operation
●The power windows can be opened and closed using the mechanical key.* ( P. 579)
●The power windows can be opened and closed using the wireless remote control.*(P. 144)

■When the 12-volt battery is disconnected
The window lock switch is disabled. If nece ssary, press the window lock switch after reconnecting the 12-volt battery.
■Power windows open warning buzzer
The buzzer sounds and a message is shown on the multi-information display in the instru- ment cluster when the power switch is turned off and the driver’s door is opened with the power windows open.
■Customization
Settings (e.g. linked door lock operation) can be changed. (Customizable features: P. 607)

■The moon roof can be operated when
The power switch is in ON mode.
■Operating the moon roof after turning the hybrid system off
The moon roof can be operated for approximately 45 seconds after the power switch is
turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off. It cannot, however, be operated once either door is opened.
■Jam protection function
If an object is detected between the moon roof and the frame while the moon roof is clos- ing or tilting down, travel is sto pped and the moon roof opens slightly.
■Sunshade
The sunshade can be opened and closed manually. However, the sunshade will open automatically when the moon roof is opened.
■Door lock linked moon roof operation
●The moon roof can be opened and closed using the mechanical key.* ( P. 579)
●The moon roof can be opened and closed using the wireless remote control.* ( P. 144)
*: These settings must be customized at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional.
■If the moon roof does not close normally
Perform the following procedure:
Stop the vehicle.
Press and hold th e “CLOSE” switch.*The moon roof will close, reopen and pause for approximately 10 seconds. Then it will close again and stop at the completely closed position.
Check to make sure that the moon roof is completely closed and then release the switch.
*: If the switch is released at the incorrect time, the procedure will have to be performed
again from the beginning.
If the moon roof does not fully close even after performing the above procedure cor-
rectly, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

■If the moon roof does not move normally
If the moon roof does not open or close no rmally or the automatic opening function does not operate, perform the follo wing initialization procedure.
Turn the power switch to ON mode.
Operate the moon roof.
Depending on the kind of malfunctio n perform either of the following:
If the moon roof does not open when the “OPEN” switch is pressed
Press and hold the “DOWN” switch or “C LOSE” switch until the moon roof is com- pletely closed.
The moon roof will open and close a few times before it closes completely.
Confirm that the moon roof has comple tely stopped and release the switch.
If the moon roof does not open completely automatically even though it tilts up and
opens while the “OPEN” switch is being pressed and held
Press and hold the “OPEN” switch un til the moon roof opens completely.
Press and hold the “CLOSE” switch un til the moon roof closes completely.
Press and hold the “UP” switch unt il the moon roof tilts up and stops.
Press and hold the “DOWN” switch until th e moon roof tilts down and stops at the completely closed position.
If you release the switch while the moon r oof is moving, perform the procedure again from the beginning.
If, after performing the above procedures co rrectly, the moon roof still does not open or
close normally or the automatic opening func tion does not operate, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
■Moon roof open warning buzzer
The buzzer sounds and a message is shown on the multi-information display in the instru-
ment cluster when the power switch is turned off and the driver’s door is opened with the moon roof open.
■Customization
Settings (e.g. linked door lock operation) can be changed. (Customizable features: P. 607)

■When starting off on an uphill
The hill-start assist co ntrol will activate. (P. 304)
■For fuel-efficient driving
Keep in mind that hybrid vehicles are similar to conventional vehicles, and it is necessary
to refrain from activities such as sudden acceleration. ( P. 334)
■Driving in the rain
●Drive carefully when it is raining, because visibility will be reduced, the windows may
become fogged-up, and the road will be slippery.
●Drive carefully when it starts to rain, because the road surface will be especially slip- pery.
●Refrain from high speeds when driving on an expressway in the rain, because there maybe a layer of water between the tires and the road surface, preventing the steering andbrakes from operating properly.
■Restraining the hybrid system output (brake override system)
●When the accelerator and brake pedals are de pressed at the same time, the hybrid sys- tem output may be restrained.
●A warning message is displayed on the multi-information display while the system is operating. ( P. 552)
■Breaking in your new Lexus
To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:
●For the first 300 km (186 miles): Avoid sudden stops.
●For the first 1000 km (621 miles):
• Do not drive at extremely high speeds. • Avoid sudden acceleration.
• Do not drive continuously in low gears. • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.
■Drum-in-disc type parking brake system
Your vehicle has a drum-in-disc type parkin g brake system. This type of brake system needs bedding-down of the brake shoes periodically or whenever the parking brakeshoes and/or drum are replaced. Have any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional, perform the bedding down operation.
■Operating your vehicle in a foreign country
Comply with the relevant vehicle registration laws and confirm the availability of the cor-
rect fuel. ( P. 598)

WARNING
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
■When driving on slippery road surfaces
●Sudden braking, acceleration and steering may cause tire slippage and reduce your ability to control the vehicle.
●Sudden acceleration, engine braking due to shifting, or changes in engine speed
could cause the vehicle to skid.
●After driving through a puddle, lightly depress the brake pedal to make sure that the brakes are functioning properly. Wet brak e pads may prevent the brakes from func-
tioning properly. If the brakes on only one side are wet and not functioning properly, steering control may be affected.
■When shifting the shift lever
●Do not let the vehicle roll backward while the shift lever is in a driving position, or roll forward while the shift lever is in R.Doing so may result in an accident or damage to the vehicle.
●Do not shift the shift lever to P while the vehicle is moving. Doing so can damage the transmission and may result in a loss of vehicle control.
●Do not shift the shift lever to R while the vehicle is moving forward.
Doing so can damage the transmission and may result in a loss of vehicle control.
●Do not shift the shift lever to a driving position while the vehicle is moving backward. Doing so can damage the transmission and may result in a loss of vehicle control.
●Shifting the shift lever to N while the vehicle is moving will disengage the hybrid sys- tem. Engine braking is not available when N is selected.
●Be careful not to shift the shift lever with the accelerator pedal depressed. Shifting the
shift lever to any position other than P or N may lead to unexpected rapid accelera- tion of the vehicle that may cause an accident and result in death or serious injury.
■If you hear a squealing or scraping noise (brake pad wear indicators)
Have the brake pads checked and replaced by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equi pped professional as soon as possible. Rotor damage may result if the pads are not replaced when needed.
Moderate levels of the brake pad and disc wear allow enhanced braking power. As a result, the discs may wear more quickly than conventional brake discs. Therefore, when replacing the brake pads, Lexus recommends that you also have the thickness of the
discs measured. It is dangerous to drive the vehicle when th e wear limits of the brake pads and/or those of the brake discs are exceeded.
