Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle
There may be no engine sound or vibration even though the vehicle is able to move with
the “READY” indicator is illuminate d. For safety, make sure to shift the shift lever to P and
apply the parking brake when parked.
The following sounds or vibrations may occu r when the hybrid system is operating and
are not a malfunction: ●
Motor sounds may be heard from the engine compartment. ●
Sounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) be hind the rear seats
when the hybrid system starts or stops. ●
Relay operating sounds such as a snap or so ft clank will be emitted from the hybrid bat-
tery (traction battery), behind the rear se ats, when the hybrid system is started or
stopped. ●
Sounds from the hybrid system may be heard when the back door is open. ●
Sounds may be heard from the transmission wh en the gasoline engine starts or stops,
when driving at low spee ds, or during idling.●
Engine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply. ●
Sounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the brake pedal is depressed
or as the accelerator pedal is released. ●
Vibration may be felt when the ga soline engine starts or stops.●
Cooling fan sounds may be heard from th e air intake vents under the rear seats.■
Vehicle proximity notification system
In the following cases, the vehicle proximity notification system may be difficult for sur-
rounding people to hear. ●
In very noisy areas ●
In the wind or the rain
Also, as the vehicle proximity notification system is installed on the fr ont of the vehicle, it
may be more difficult to hear from the re ar of the vehicle compared to the front.■
Maintenance, repair, re cycling, and disposal
Contact your Lexus dealer regarding mainte nance, repair, recycling and disposal. Do
not dispose of the vehicle yourself. ■

hybrid battery (traction battery) are
located under the rear seats and in lug-
gage compartment respectively. If the
air intake vents are blocked, it could
lead to a reduction in hybrid battery
(traction battery) output.

When a certain level of impact is detect ed by the impact sensor, the emergency
shut off system blocks the high voltage current and stops the fuel pump to mini-
mize the risk of electrocution and fuel leakage. If the emergency shut off system
activates, your vehicle will not restart. To restart the hybrid system, contact your
Lexus dealer.
A message is automatically displayed wh en a malfunction occurs in the hybrid
system or an improper operation is attempted.
If a warning message is shown on the
multi-information display, read the
message and follow the instructions.

WARNING ■
To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door open ing and an occupant falling out, resulting in
death or serious injury. ●
Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked. ●
Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even if the
inside lock buttons are in locked position. ●
Set the rear door child-protector locks wh en children are seated in the rear seats.■
When opening or closing a door
Check the surroundings of the vehicle such as whether the vehicle is on an incline,
whether there is enough space for a door to open and whether a strong wind is blow-
ing. When opening or closing the door, hold the door handle tightly to prepare for any
unpredictable movement.

WARNING ■
When adjusting the seat position ●
Take care when adjusting the seat position to ensure that other passengers are not
injured by the moving seat. ●
Do not put your hands under the seat or near the moving parts to avoid injury.
Fingers or hands may become jammed in the se at mechanism.●
Make sure to leave enough space around the feet so they do not get stuck. ■
Seat adjustment
To reduce the risk of sliding under the lap be lt during a collision, do not recline the seat
more than necessary.
If the seat is too reclined, the lap belt may slide past the hips and apply restraint forces
directly to the abdomen, or your neck may contact the shou lder belt, increasing the risk
of death or serious injury in the event of an accident.
Adjustments should not be made while drivin g as the seat may unexpectedly move and
cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Before folding the rear seatbacks
Stow the center seat seat belt buckle.
Lower the rear seat head restra ints to the lowest position. ( → P. 186)■

back.

Folding the rear seatbacks (power seat)
Press and hold the fold switch until the rear seatback begins to operate.A buzzer will sound and then the operation will start. When the operation is com-
pleted, the buzzer will sound again.
To stop the operation partway, press either side of the switch for the operating seat.
Any rear seat operation switch for the op erating seat, regardless of location, can
be used to stop the operation. (A buzzer may sound depending on the position
that the rear seatback is stopped.)

Returning the rear seatbacks (manual seat)
Lift the rear seatback until it locks
in position.
Check that the plate of the seat
belt is on the front side of the seat-
back.
Using the seatback angle adjust-
ment switch
Using the switch in the luggage
compartment
When using the seatback angle adjustme nt switch: If the rear seatback is
reclined, adjust it to the most upright position and then press the switch again.1

Returning the rear seatbacks (power seat)
Press and hold the return switch until the rear seatback begins to operate.A buzzer will sound and then the operation will start. When the operation is com-
pleted, the buzzer will sound twice again.
To stop the operation partway, press either side of the switch for the operating seat.
Any rear seat operation switch for the op erating seat, regardless of location, can
be used to stop the operation. (A buzzer may sound depending on the position
that the rear seatback is stopped.)
Check that the plate of the seat

back.

Folding the rear center seatback only
Pull the lock release lever on the
back side of the seatback and fold
the center seatback. To return the rear center seatback to
its original position, li ft it until it locks
in position. 1
