HOW DOES ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
WORK
The all-wheel drive system is designed tocontinuously monitor and adjust powerdelivery to the front and rear wheels tooptimize both traction and handling. TheAWD system turns on when needed anddoes not require input from you.
Your all-wheel drive vehicle is not intendedfor off-road use. The AWD feature gives yourvehicle some limited off-road capabilities inwhich driving surfaces are relatively level,obstruction-free and otherwise similar tonormal on-road driving conditions. Operatingyour vehicle in conditions other than those, could subject the vehicle to excess stresswhich might result in damage which is notcovered under your warranty.
ALL-WHEEL DRIVE PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not becomeoverconfident in the ability of all-wheeldrive vehicles. Although an all-wheel drivevehicle may accelerate better than atwo-wheel drive vehicle in low tractionsituations, it won't stop any faster thantwo-wheel drive vehicles. Always drive ata safe speed.
ALL-WHEEL DRIVE LIMITATIONS
Using different size tires other than theprovided spare could cause system damageor disable the all-wheel drive system.

WHAT IS DRIVE MODE CONTROL
The system delivers a driving experiencethrough a suite of sophisticated electronicvehicle systems. These systems optimizesteering, handling and powertrain response. This provides a single location to controlmultiple systems performance settings.
Changing the drive mode automaticallychanges the functionality of the followingsystems:
•Electronically power-assisted steeringsystem adjusts steering effort and feelbased on the mode you select. See HowDoes Electric Power Steering Work(page 291).
•Electronic stability control and tractioncontrol maintains your vehicle control inadverse conditions or high performancedriving. See Stability Control (page 288).
•Electronic throttle control enhances thepowertrain response to your drivinginputs.
•Transmission controls optimize with shiftschedules tuned to each mode.
•AWD settings become optimized andtuned to each mode.
The system automatically tailors your vehicleconfiguration for each mode you select.
Note:Not all settings, or modes, may beavailable.
Note:The system has diagnostic checks thatcontinuously monitor the system for properoperation. If a mode is unavailable due to asystem fault, the mode defaults to Normal.
SELECTING A DRIVE MODE
Note:Drive mode changes may not beavailable when the ignition is off.
Rotate the drive mode dial on the centerconsole to change the drive mode.
DRIVE MODES
CONSERVE
Enables efficient driving. It helps to delivermaximum fuel efficiency and helps toincrease driving range.

RECREATIONALLY TOWING YOUR
VEHICLE - GASOLINE, AWD
You cannot recreational tow your vehiclewith all wheels on the ground becausevehicle or transmission damage could occur. You must recreational tow your vehicle withall four wheels off the ground, such as whenusing a car-hauling trailer. Otherwise, youcannot recreational tow your vehicle.
RECREATIONALLY TOWING YOUR
VEHICLE - GASOLINE, FWD
You cannot recreational tow your vehiclewith all wheels on the ground becausevehicle or transmission damage could occur.Place the front wheels on a two-wheel towdolly. If you are using a tow dolly, follow theinstructions specified by the equipmentprovider.
Note:Release the parking brake beforetowing your vehicle. See ManuallyReleasing the Electric Parking Brake (page272).
EMERGENCY TOWING - PLUG-IN
HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE
(PHEV)
If your vehicle becomes inoperable withoutaccess to wheel dollies or a vehicle transporttrailer, it can be flat-towed with all wheels onthe ground, regardless of the powertrain andtransmission configuration, under thefollowing conditions:
•Your vehicle is facing forward for towingin a forward direction.
•You switch Neutral Tow on.
•You release the parking brake.
•Maximum speed is 35 mph (55 km/h).
•Maximum distance is 50 mi (80 km).
Switching Neutral Tow On
1.Switch your vehicle on in accessorymode.
2.Press the menu button on the steeringwheel to enter the instrument clusterdisplay main menu.
3.Select Settings.
4.Select Neutral Tow.
5.Follow the instructions on the informationdisplay.
6.Fully press the brake pedal.
7.Shift into neutral (N).
8.Switch the ignition off.
Note:Failure to follow these instructionscould result in damage to the transmission.
Note:Switching neutral tow on requiresbattery power.
Note: Put your climate control system inrecirculated air mode to prevent exhaustfumes from entering your vehicle. SeeClimate Control (page 168).
Switching Neutral Tow Off
1.Switch your vehicle on in accessorymode.
2.Fully press the brake pedal.

It is recommended that the two fronttires or two rear tires generally bereplaced as a pair if the worn tires stillhave usable depth.
To avoid potential All-Wheel Drive (AWD)malfunction or (AWD) system damage,it is recommended to replace all fourtires rather than mixing significantly worntires with new tires.
The tire pressure sensors mounted inthe wheels (originally installed on yourvehicle) are not designed to be used inaftermarket wheels.
The use of wheels or tires notrecommended may affect the operationof your tire pressure monitoring system.
If the tire pressure monitoring system
indicator is flashing, your system ismalfunctioning. Your replacement tiremight be incompatible with your tirepressure monitoring system, or somecomponent of the system may bedamaged.
Age
WARNING: Tires degrade overtime depending on many factors suchas weather, storage conditions, andconditions of use (load, speed, inflationpressure) the tires experiencethroughout their lives. In general, tires should be replacedafter six years regardless of treadwear. However, heat caused by hotclimates or frequent high loadingconditions can accelerate the agingprocess and may require tires to bereplaced more frequently. You should replace your spare tirewhen you replace the road tires orafter six years due to aging even if it
has not been used.
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number
Both United States and Canada Federalregulations require tire manufacturersto place standardized information on thesidewall of all tires. This informationidentifies and describes the fundamentalcharacteristics of the tire and alsoprovides a U.S. DOT Tire IdentificationNumber for safety standard certificationand in case of a recall.
This begins with the letters DOT andindicates that the tire meets all federalstandards. The next two numbers orletters are the plant code designatingwhere it was manufactured, the next twoare the tire size code and the last fournumbers represent the week and yearthe tire was built. For example, the
numbers 317 mean the 31st week of1997. After 2000, the numbers go to fourdigits. For example, 2501 means the25th week of 2001. The numbers inbetween are identification codes usedfor traceability. This information is usedto contact customers if a tire defectrequires a recall.

Exceptions
There are several exceptions to the NormalSchedule:
Axle and PTU Maintenance
The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) and rear axle(AWD only) in your vehicle does not requireany normal scheduled maintenance unlessthe vehicle has experienced extendedperiods of extreme/severe duty cycle drivingor the PTU and/or the rear axle has beensubmerged in water. Checking the PTU andrear axle fluid is not necessary unless theunit shows signs of leakage. Contact anauthorized dealer for service.
California Fuel Filter Replacement
If you register your vehicle in California, theCalifornia Air Resources Board hasdetermined that the failure to perform thismaintenance item does not nullify theemission warranty or limit recall liabilitybefore the completion of your vehicle'suseful life. We however, urge you to have allrecommended maintenance servicesperformed at the specified intervals and torecord all vehicle service.
Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air FilterReplacement
The life of the engine air filter and cabin airfilter is dependent on exposure to dusty anddirty conditions. Vehicles operated in theseconditions require frequent inspection andreplacement of the engine air filter and cabinair filter.
