WARNING: Adaptive cruise controlis not a crash warning or avoidancesystem.
Note:It is your responsibility to stay alert,drive safely and be in control of the vehicleat all times.
The system adjusts your vehicle speed tomaintain the set gap between you and thevehicle in front of you in the same lane. Youcan select four gap settings.
The system uses a radar sensor that projectsa beam directly in front of your vehicle.
The adaptive cruise controls are on thesteering wheel.
Switching Adaptive Cruise Control On
Press and release the button.
The indicator, current gap settingand set speed appear in theinformation display.
Setting the Adaptive Cruise Speed
Drive to your preferred speed.
Press the toggle button upward ordownward to set the currentspeed.
Take your foot off the accelerator pedal.
The indicator, current gap setting and setspeed appear in the information display.
Note:When adaptive cruise control is active,the speedometer may vary slightly from theset speed displayed in the informationdisplay.
Following a Vehicle
WARNING: When following a vehicle,your vehicle does not always deceleratequickly enough to avoid a crash withoutdriver intervention. Always apply thebrakes when necessary. Failing to do somay result in a crash, serious injury ordeath.

If the system detects that your drivingalertness is reduced below a certainthreshold, the system will alert you using achime and a message in the informationdisplay.
Using Driver Alert
Switching the system on and off
You may switch the system on or off throughthe information display. See GeneralInformation (page 105). When activated, thesystem will monitor your alertness levelbased upon your driving behavior in relationto the lane markings, and other factors.
System Warnings
Note:The system will not issue warningsbelow approximately 40 mph (64 km/h).
The warning system is in two stages. At firstthe system issues a temporary warning thatyou need to take a rest. This message willonly appear for a short time. If the systemdetects further reduction in driving alertness,another warning may be issued which willremain in the information display for a longertime. Press OK on the steering wheel controlto clear the warning.
System Display
When active the system will run automaticallyin the background and only issue a warningif required. You can view the status at anytime using the information display. SeeGeneral Information (page 105).
The alertness level is shown by six steps ina colored bar.
The current assessment of your alertness iswithin a typical range.
The current assessment of your alertnessindicates that you should rest as soon assafely possible.
The status bar will travel from left to right asthe calculated alertness level decreases. Asthe rest icon is approached the color turnsfrom green to yellow to red. The yellowposition indicates the first warning is activeand the red position indicates the secondwarning is active.
Note:If you have recently received awarning, you should consider resting, evenif the current assessment is within the typicalrange.

Note:If the camera sensor cannot track theroad lane markings or if your vehicle speeddrops below approximately 40 mph(64 km/h), the alertness level will change togrey for a short time and the informationdisplay will inform you that the system isunavailable.
Resetting the System
You can reset the system by either:
•Switching the ignition off and on.
•Stopping the vehicle and then openingand closing the driver’s door.
LANE KEEPING SYSTEM (If Equipped)
WARNING: You are responsible forcontrolling your vehicle at all times. Thesystem is designed to be an aid and doesnot relieve you of your responsibility todrive with due care and attention. Failureto follow this instruction could result in theloss of control of your vehicle, personalinjury or death.
WARNING: Always drive with duecare and attention when using andoperating the controls and features on yourvehicle.
WARNING: In cold and severeweather conditions the system may notfunction. Rain, snow and spray can all limitsensor performance.
WARNING: The system will notoperate if the sensor cannot track the roadlane markings.
WARNING: The sensor mayincorrectly track lane markings as otherstructures or objects. This can result in afalse or missed warning.
WARNING: Large contrasts in outsidelighting can limit sensor performance.
WARNING: The system may notoperate properly if the sensor is blocked.Keep the windshield free from obstruction.
WARNING: If damage occurs in theimmediate area surrounding the sensor,have your vehicle checked as soon aspossible.
WARNING: The system may notcorrectly operate if your vehicle is fittedwith a suspension kit not approved by us.
Note:The system works above 40 mph(64 km/h).
Note:The system works as long as thecamera can detect one lane marking.
Note:When aid or alert and aid modes areselected and the system detects no steeringactivity for a short period, the system alertsyou to put your hands on the steering wheel.The system may detect a light grip or touchon the steering wheel as hands off driving.
Note:The system may not function with ablocked camera, or a damaged or dirtywindshield.

When you switch the system on and itdetects an unintentional drift out of your laneis likely to occur, it notifies or assists you tostay in your lane through the steering systemand information display. Depending on thefeature operation mode you select, thesystem provides a warning by vibrating thesteering wheel or a steering assistance bygently counter steering your vehicle backinto the lane.
Switching the System On and Off
Note:The system stores the on or off settinguntil you manually change it, unless itdetects a MyKey™. If the system detects aMyKey, it defaults to on and the mode is setto alert.
Note:If the system detects a MyKey™,pressing the button does not affect the onor off status of the system.
Press the button on the centerconsole to switch the system on oroff.
System Settings
The system has optional setting menusavailable. See General Information (page105). The system stores the last-knownselection for each of these settings. You donot need to readjust your settings each timeyou switch the system on.
Mode (if equipped): This setting allows youto select which of the system features youcan enable.
Alert only – Provides a steering wheelvibration when the system detects anunintended lane departure.
Note:Some vehicles only have the alertfunction.

Aid only (if equipped) – Provides steeringassistance toward the lane center when thesystem detects an unintended lanedeparture.

Intensity (if equipped): This setting affectsthe intensity of the steering wheel vibrationused for the alert and alert + aid modes. Thissetting does not affect the aid mode.

If you switch the system on in alert mode, anoverhead graphic of a vehicle with lanemarkings appears in the information display.

System Limitations
WARNING: The collision warningsystem’s brake support can only helpreduce the speed at which a collisionoccurs if the driver applies the vehicle’sbrakes. The brake pedal must be pressedjust like any typical braking situation.
Due to the nature of radar technology, theremay be certain instances where vehicles donot provide a collision warning. Theseinclude:
•Stationary vehicles or vehicles movingbelow 6 mph (10 km/h).
•Pedestrians or objects in the roadway.
•Oncoming vehicles in the same lane.
•Severe weather conditions (see blockedsensor section).
•Debris build-up on the grille near theheadlamps (see blocked sensor section).
•Small distance to vehicle ahead.
•Steering wheel and pedal movementsare large (very active driving style).
If the front end of the vehicle is hit ordamaged, the radar sensing zone may bealtered causing missed or false collisionwarnings. See your authorized dealer to haveyour collision warning radar checked forproper coverage and operation.
DRIVE CONTROL (If Equipped)
Lincoln Drive Control
Lincoln Drive Control delivers the Lincolndriving experience through a suite ofsophisticated electronic vehicle systems.These systems continuously monitor yourdriving inputs and the road conditions tooptimize ride comfort, steering, handling,powertrain response and sound. You canpreset your preferences for these systemswithin the information display. Lincoln DriveControl will respond to your preferencesbased on what gear position you select. Thisprovides a single location to control multiplesystems performance settings.
Lincoln Drive Control consists of thefollowing systems:
•Adaptive suspension dynamically adjuststhe shock absorbers stiffness in real timeto match the road surface and driverinputs. This system continuously monitorsyour vehicle’s motion, suspensionposition, load, speed, road conditionsand steering to adjust the suspensiondamping for optimal vehicle control.
•Electronically power-assisted steeringadjusts steering effort and feel based onyour vehicle speed and your inputs.
•Active noise control utilizes your vehicleelectronics to enhance the acousticexperience.
•Electronic stability control and tractioncontrol maintain your vehicle control inadverse conditions or high performancedriving.
•Electronic throttle control enhances thepowertrain response to your inputs.

TRAILER SWAY CONTROL (If Equipped)
WARNING: Turning off trailer swaycontrol increases the risk of loss of vehiclecontrol, serious injury or death. Ford doesnot recommend disabling this featureexcept in situations where speed reductionmay be detrimental (such as hill climbing),the driver has significant trailer towingexperience, and can control trailer swayand maintain safe operation.
Note:This feature does not prevent trailersway, but reduces it when it begins.
Note:This feature cannot stop all trailersfrom swaying.
Note:In some cases, if your vehicle speedis too high, the system may turn on multipletimes, gradually reducing your vehicle speed.
The system applies the brakes to theindividual wheels and reduces engine torqueto aid vehicle stability. If the trailer beginsto sway, the stability control warning lampflashes and a message appears in theinformation display. See InformationMessages (page 112). Slow your vehicledown, pull safely to the side of the road andcheck for correct load distribution. See LoadCarrying (page 231).
You can switch this feature off in theinformation display. When you switch theignition on, the system automatically turnson.

Note:Trailer tow is not permitted on allapplications of Livery and Limousine.
Note:Do not exceed the trailer weightfor your vehicle configuration listed inthe chart below.
Note:Make sure to take intoconsideration trailer frontal area. Do notexceed 20 ft² (1.86 m²) if your vehiclecan tow a class I trailer or 40 ft² (3.72m²) if your vehicle can tow a class IIItrailer.
Note:For high altitude operation,reduce the gross combined weight by2% per 1,000 ft (300 m) starting at the1,000 ft (300 m) elevation point.

Themaximum trailer weights listed may belimited to this specified weight, as thevehicle’s electrical system may notinclude the wiring connector needed touse electric trailer brakes.

Distribute the trailer load so 10-15% of thetotal trailer weight is on the tongue.
Weight-Distributing Hitch
WARNING: Do not adjust the springbars so that your vehicle's rear bumper ishigher than before attaching the trailer.Doing so will defeat the function of theweight-distributing hitch, which may causeunpredictable handling, and could resultin serious personal injury.
When hooking-up a trailer using aweight-distributing hitch, always use thefollowing procedure:
1. Park your vehicle, without the trailer, ona level surface.
2. Measure the height of the top of yourvehicle’s front wheel opening on thefender. This is H1.
3.Attach the trailer to your vehicle withoutthe weight-distributing bars connected.
4. Measure the height of the top of yourvehicle’s front wheel opening on thefender a second time. This is H2.
5. Install and adjust the tension in theweight distributing bars so that the heightof the front fender is approximatelyhalfway between H1 and H2.
6.Check that the trailer is level. If not level,adjust the ball height accordingly andrepeat Steps 3–6.
Safety Chains
Note:Never attach safety chains to thebumper.
Always connect the safety chains to the hookretainers of your vehicle hitch.
To connect the safety chains, cross themunder the trailer tongue and allow enoughslack for turning tight corners. Do not allowthe chains to drag on the ground.
Trailer Brakes
WARNING: Do not connect a trailer'shydraulic brake system directly to yourvehicle's brake system. Your vehicle maynot have enough braking power and yourchances of having a collision greatlyincrease.
Electric brakes and manual, automatic orsurge-type trailer brakes are safe if you installthem properly and adjust them to themanufacturer's specifications. The trailerbrakes must meet local and federalregulations.
The rating for the tow vehicle's brakingsystem operation is at the gross vehicleweight rating, not the gross combinedweight rating.
Separate functioning brake systems arerequired for safe control of towed vehiclesand trailers weighing more than 1500 lb(680 kg) when loaded.

Trailer Brake Controller Connector (If
Equipped)
The connector is located under theinstrument panel above the brake pedal.
Trailer Lamps
WARNING: Never connect any trailerlamp wiring to the vehicle's tail lamp wiring;this may damage the electrical systemresulting in fire. Contact your authorizeddealer as soon as possible for assistancein proper trailer tow wiring installation.Additional electrical equipment may berequired.
Trailer lamps are required on most towedvehicles. Make sure all running lights, brakelights, turn signals and hazard lights areworking.
Before Towing a Trailer
Practice turning, stopping and backing up toget the feel of your vehicle-trailercombination before starting on a trip. Whenturning, make wider turns so the trailerwheels clear curbs and other obstacles.
When Towing a Trailer
•Do not drive faster than 70 mph(113 km/h) during the first 500 mi(800 km).
•Do not make full-throttle starts.
•Check your hitch, electrical connectionsand trailer wheel lug nuts thoroughly afteryou have traveled 50 mi (80 km).
•When stopped in congested or heavytraffic during hot weather, place thegearshift in park (P) to aid engine andtransmission cooling and to help A/Cperformance.
•Turn off the speed control with heavyloads or in hilly terrain. The speed controlmay turn off automatically when you aretowing on long, steep grades.
•Shift to a lower gear when driving downa long or steep hill. Do not apply thebrakes continuously, as they mayoverheat and become less effective.
