All personal codes erase and only thefactory-set five-digit code works.
Anti-Scan Feature
The keypad goes into an anti-scan mode ifyou enter the wrong code seven times. Thismode turns off the keypad for one minuteand the keypad lamp flashes.
The anti-scan feature turns off after:
•One minute of keypad inactivity.
•You press the unlock button on theremote control.
•You switch the ignition on.
•You unlock your vehicle using intelligentaccess.
Locking and Unlocking the Doors
Locking All Doors
Press and hold 7·8 and 9·0 simultaneouslywith the driver door closed. You do not needto enter the keypad code first.
Unlocking the Driver Door
Enter the factory-set or your personalfive-digit code. You must press each numberwithin five seconds of each other. Theinterior lamps illuminate.
Note:All doors unlock if you switch on theall-door unlocking mode. See Locking andUnlocking (page 72).
Unlocking All Doors
Enter the factory-set or your personalfive-digit code, then press 3·4 within fiveseconds.
Displaying the Factory-Set Code
Note:You need to have two programmedintelligent access keys for this procedure.
1. Open the floor console storagecompartment lid.

2. With the buttons facing the rear of yourvehicle and the key ring up, place thefirst intelligent access key into thebackup slot inside the center console.
3. Press the push button ignition switchonce and wait a few seconds.
4. Press the push button ignition switchagain and remove the key.
5. Insert the second programmed key intothe backup slot, then press the pushbutton ignition switch.
The factory-set code appears in theinformation display for a few seconds.
Note:The code may not display until afterany other warning messages first display.

MANUAL LIFTGATE (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
It is extremely dangerous to ride in acargo area, inside or outside of avehicle. In a crash, people riding in theseareas are more likely to be seriously injuredor killed. Do not allow people to ride in anyarea of your vehicle that is not equipped withseats and seatbelts. Make sure everyone inyour vehicle is in a seat and properly usinga seatbelt. Failure to follow this warningcould result in serious personal injury ordeath..
Make sure to close and latch theliftgate to prevent drawing exhaustfumes into your vehicle. This will also preventpassengers and cargo from falling out. If youmust drive with the liftgate open, keep thevents or windows open so outside air comesinto your vehicle. Failure to follow thiswarning could result in serious personalinjury.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the liftgate.
Note: Do not hang anything, for example abike rack, from the glass or liftgate. Thiscould damage the liftgate and itscomponents.
Note: Do not leave the liftgate open whiledriving. This could damage the liftgate andits components.
Opening the Liftgate
Manually
1. Press the button to unlatch the liftgate.

2. Pull the liftgate upward.
With the Remote Control
Press the button twice within threeseconds, and then pull on theoutside handle.
Closing the Liftgate
A handle is located inside the liftgate to helpwith closing.
POWER LIFTGATE (If Equipped)
WARNINGS

The liftgate only operates with thetransmission in park (P).

Three warning tones sound as the liftgatebegins to power close. If there is a problemwith the open or close request, one of thefollowing may occur:
•A tone sounds if the ignition is on andthe transmission is not in park (P).
•A tone sounds if the battery voltage isbelow the minimum operating voltage.
•A tone sounds if the liftgate is not fullyclosed and your vehicle is moving at aspeed greater than 3 mph (5 km/h).
If the liftgate starts to close after it has fullyopened, this indicates there may beexcessive weight on the liftgate or a possiblestrut failure. A repetitive tone sounds andthe liftgate closes under control. Removeany excessive weight from the liftgate. If theliftgate continues to close after opening,have the system checked by an authorizeddealer.
Opening and Closing the Liftgate
WARNING
Make sure all persons are clear of thepower liftgate area before using thepower liftgate control.
Note: Make sure the area behind yourvehicle is free from obstruction and thatthere is enough room for you to operate theliftgate. Objects too close to your vehicle,for example a wall, garage door or anothervehicle may come into contact with themoving liftgate. This could damage theliftgate and its components.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the liftgate.
Note: Do not leave the liftgate open whiledriving. This could damage the liftgate andits components.
From the Instrument Panel
With the transmission in park (P),press the button on the instrumentpanel.
Remote Control
Press the button twice within threeseconds.
Outside Control Button
Opening the Liftgate
1. Unlock the liftgate with the remotecontrol or power door unlock control. Ifa passive key is within 3 ft (1 m) of theliftgate, the liftgate unlocks when youpress the liftgate release button.

2. Press the liftgate release button.
Note:Allow the power system to open theliftgate. Manually pushing or pulling theliftgate may activate the system’s obstacledetection feature and stop the poweroperation or reverse its direction, replicatea strut failure, or damage mechanicalcomponents.
Closing the Liftgate
WARNING
Keep clear of the liftgate when usingthe rear switch.
Press and release the liftgate control button.
Stopping the Liftgate Movement
Note: Do not apply sudden excessive forceto the liftgate while it is in motion. This coulddamage the power liftgate and itscomponents.
You can stop the liftgate movement by doingany of the following:
•Pressing the liftgate control button.
•Pressing the liftgate button on the remotecontrol twice.
•Pressing the liftgate button on theinstrument panel.
•Moving your foot under and away fromthe center rear bumper in a single-kickmotion.*
*This method only works for vehicles with the
hands-free liftgate feature.
Setting the Liftgate Open Height
1. Open the liftgate.
2. Stop the liftgate movement by pressingthe control button on the liftgate when itreaches the desired height.

Note:Once the liftgate has stopped moving,you can also manually move it to the desiredheight.
3.Press and hold the liftgate control buttonon the liftgate until a tone sounds,indicating programming is complete.
Note:You can only use the liftgate controlbutton to program the height.
Note:You cannot program the height if theliftgate position is too low.
The new open liftgate height is recalledwhen the power liftgate is opened. Tochange the programmed height, repeat theabove procedure. Once you open the powerliftgate, you can manually move it to adifferent height.
Note:The system recalls the newprogrammed height, even if you disconnectthe battery.
When operating the power liftgate after youhave programmed a lower height than fullyopen, you can fully open the liftgate bymanually pushing it upward to the maximumopen position.
Obstacle Detection
When Closing
The system stops when it detects anobstacle. A tone sounds and the systemreverses to open. Once you remove theobstacle, you can power close the liftgate.
Note:Entering your vehicle while the liftgateis closing can cause your vehicle to bounceand activate obstacle detection. To preventthis, let the power liftgate close completelybefore you enter your vehicle. Before drivingoff, check the instrument cluster for a liftgateor door ajar message or warning indicator.Failure to do this could result inunintentionally leaving the liftgate openwhile driving.
When Opening
The system stops when it detects anobstacle and a tone sounds. Once youremove the obstacle, you can continue tooperate the liftgate.
Hands-Free Feature (If Equipped)
Make sure you have an intelligent accesstransmitter within 3 ft (1 m) of the liftgate.
1.Move your foot under and away from therear bumper detection area in asingle-kick motion. Do not move yourfoot sideways or the sensors may notdetect the motion. Kick between theexhaust and hitch if your vehicle has ahitch.
2. The liftgate will power open or close.

Note: Splashing water may cause thehands-free liftgate to open. Keep theintelligent access key away from the rearbumper detection area when washing yourvehicle.

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
Note: The system is not compatible withnon-Ford aftermarket remote start systems. Use of these systems may result in enginestarting problems and a loss of securityprotection.
Note: Metallic objects, electronic devicesor a second coded key on the same keychain may result in vehicle starting problems,especially if they are too close to the keywhen starting your vehicle. Prevent theseobjects from touching the coded key whenstarting your vehicle. Switch the ignition off,move all objects on the key chain away fromthe coded key and restart your vehicle if aproblem occurs.
Note: Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take your keys andlock all doors when leaving your vehicle.
SecuriLock™
The system helps prevent the engine fromstarting unless you use a coded keyprogrammed to your vehicle. Using thewrong key may prevent your vehicle fromstarting. A message may appear in theinformation display.
If you are unable to start your vehicle with acoded key, it is not operating correctly. Amessage may appear in the informationdisplay.
Automatic Arming
The system arms when you switch theignition off.
Automatic Disarming
The system disarms when you switch theignition on with a coded key.
Replacement Keys
Note:Your vehicle comes with two keys.
The intelligent access key functions as aprogrammed key that operates the driverdoor lock and turns on the intelligent accesswith push button start system, as well as aremote control.
If your coded keys are lost or stolen and youdo not have an extra coded key, you needto erase the key codes from your vehicle andprogram new coded keys. Contact anauthorized dealer.
Store a spare intelligent access key awayfrom your vehicle in a safe place. You canpurchase replacement keys or remotecontrols from an authorized dealer.
Programming a Spare Intelligent AccessKey
Note:You can program a maximum of fourintelligent access keys to your vehicle.
You must have two previously programmedintelligent access keys inside your vehicleand the new unprogrammed intelligentaccess keys readily accessible. Contact anauthorized dealer to have the spare keyprogrammed if two previously programmedkeys are not available.

Make sure that the ignition is switched offbefore beginning this procedure. Make surethat you close all the doors before beginningand that they remain closed throughout theprocedure. Carry out all steps within 30seconds of starting the sequence. Stop andwait for at least one minute before startingagain if you carry out any steps out ofsequence.
Read and understand the entire procedurebefore you begin.
1. Open the floor console storagecompartment lid.
2. Insert the first programmed key in thebackup slot.
3. Press the push button ignition switch.
4. Wait five seconds and then press thepush button ignition switch again.
5. Remove the intelligent access key.
6. Within 10 seconds, place a secondprogrammed intelligent access key in thebackup slot and press the push buttonignition switch.
7. Wait five seconds and then press thepush button ignition switch again.
8. Remove the intelligent access key.
9. Wait five seconds, then place theunprogrammed intelligent access key inthe backup slot and press the pushbutton ignition switch.
10.Once complete, the information clusterdisplays a message confirming that youhave programed the key.
If programming was unsuccessful, wait 10seconds and repeat the procedure. If it stilldoes not work, take your vehicle to anauthorized dealer.
