If the booster seat slides on the vehicle seatupon which it is being used, placing arubberized mesh sold as shelf or carpet linerunder the booster seat may improve thiscondition. Do not introduce any item thickerthan this under the booster seat. Check withthe booster seat manufacturer's instructions.
CHILD RESTRAINT POSITIONING
WARNING: Do not place a rearwardfacing child restraint in front of an activeairbag. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Properly secure children12 years old and under in a rear seatingposition whenever possible. If you areunable to properly secure all children in arear seating position, properly secure thelargest child on the front seat. If you mustuse a forward facing child restraint on thefront seat, move the seat as far back aspossible. Failure to follow theseinstructions could result in personal injuryor death.
WARNING: Always carefully followthe instructions and warnings provided bythe manufacturer of any child restraint todetermine if the restraint device isappropriate for your child's size, height,weight, or age. Follow the child restraintmanufacturer's instructions and warningsprovided for installation and use inconjunction with the instructions andwarnings provided by your vehicle
manufacturer. A safety seat that isimproperly installed or utilized, isinappropriate for your child's height, age,or weight or does not properly fit the childmay increase the risk of serious injury ordeath.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
WARNING: Always drive and ridewith your seatback upright and the lap beltsnug and low across the hips.
WARNING: Children must always beproperly restrained.
WARNING: Never let a passengerhold a child on his or her lap while thevehicle is moving. The passenger cannotprotect the child from injury in a crash.
WARNING: All occupants of yourvehicle, including the driver, should alwaysproperly wear their seatbelts, even whenan airbag supplemental restraint system isprovided. Failure to properly wear yourseatbelt could seriously increase the riskof injury or death.
WARNING: It is extremely dangerousto ride in a cargo area, inside or outside ofa vehicle. In a crash, people riding in theseareas are more likely to be seriouslyinjured or killed. Do not allow people toride in any area of your vehicle that is notequipped with seats and seatbelts. Makesure everyone in your vehicle is in a seatand properly using a seatbelt. Failure tofollow this warning could result in seriouspersonal injury or death.
WARNING: In a rollover crash, anunbelted person is significantly more likelyto die than a person wearing a seatbelt.
WARNING: Each seating position inyour vehicle has a specific seatbeltassembly made up of one buckle and onetongue designed to be used as a pair. Usethe shoulder belt on the outside shoulderonly. Never wear the shoulder belt underthe arm. Never use a single seatbelt formore than one person.
WARNING: Even with advancedrestraints systems, properly restrainchildren 12 and under in a rear seatingposition. Failure to follow this couldseriously increase the risk of injury ordeath.
WARNING: Seatbelts and seats maybe hot in a vehicle that is in the sunshine.The hot seatbelts or seats may burn a smallchild. Check seat covers and bucklesbefore you place a child anywhere nearthem.
All seating positions in your vehicle have lapand shoulder seatbelts. All occupants of thevehicle should always properly wear theirseatbelts, even when an airbag supplementalrestraint system is provided.
The seatbelt system consists of:
•Lap and shoulder seatbelts.
•Shoulder seatbelt with automatic lockingmode, (except driver seatbelt and rearinflatable seatbelt).

3.Pull the larger tongue across the lap andinsert it into the buckle to the right of thecenter seat.
Note:If in constant use, you can leave thebelt buckled in the smaller buckle. When itis not in use, or when you fold or move therear seats, you should release the belt fromthe smaller buckle. Using the tongue of theadjacent seatbelt, press the red button onthe smaller buckle.
Using Seatbelts During Pregnancy
WARNING: Always ride and drivewith your seatback upright and properlyfasten your seatbelt. Fit the lap portion ofthe seatbelt snugly and low across thehips. Position the shoulder portion of theseatbelt across your chest. Pregnantwomen must follow this practice. See thefollowing figure.
Pregnant women should always wear theirseatbelt. Position the lap belt portion of acombination lap and shoulder belt low acrossthe hips below the belly and worn as tightas comfort allows. Position the shoulder beltto cross the middle of the shoulder and thecenter of the chest.
Seatbelt Locking Modes
WARNING: If your vehicle is involvedin a crash, have the seatbelts andassociated components inspected as soonas possible. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
All safety restraints in the vehicle arecombination lap and shoulder belts. Thedriver seatbelt has the vehicle sensitivelocking mode. The front outboard passengerand rear seatbelts have both the vehiclesensitive locking mode and the automaticlocking mode.
Vehicle Sensitive Mode
This is the normal retractor mode, whichallows free shoulder belt length adjustmentto your movements and locking in responseto vehicle movement. For example, if thedriver brakes suddenly or turns a cornersharply, or the vehicle receives an impact ofabout 5 mph (8 km/h) or more, thecombination seatbelts lock to help reduceforward movement of the driver andpassengers.
In addition, the retractor is designed to lockif you pull the webbing out too quickly. If theseatbelt retractor locks, slowly lower theheight adjuster to allow the seatbelt toretract. If the retractor does not unlock, pullthe seatbelt out slowly then feed a small

How to Disengage the Automatic LockingMode
Unbuckle the combination lap and shoulderbelt and allow it to retract completely todisengage the automatic locking mode andactivate the vehicle sensitive (emergency)locking mode.
Rear Inflatable Seatbelt (If Equipped)
WARNING: Do not attempt to service,repair, or modify the supplementaryrestraint system or associated components.Failure to follow this instruction could resultin personal injury or death.
The rear inflatable seatbelts are in theshoulder portion of the seatbelts of thesecond-row outermost seating positions.
Note:The rear inflatable seatbelts arecompatible with most infant and child safetycar seats and belt positioning booster seatswhen you properly install them. This isbecause they are designed to fill with acooled gas at a lower pressure and at aslower rate than traditional airbags. Afterinflation, the shoulder portion of the seatbeltremains cool to the touch.
The rear inflatable seatbelt consists of thefollowing:
•An inflatable bag in the shoulder seatbeltwebbing.
•Lap seatbelt webbing with automaticlocking mode.
•The same warning light, electroniccontrol and diagnostic unit as used forthe front seatbelts.
•Impact sensors in various parts of thevehicle.
How does the rear inflatable seatbeltsystem work?
WARNING: If a supplementaryrestraint system component has deployed,it will not function again. Have the systemand associated components inspected assoon as possible. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
The rear inflatable seatbelts function likestandard restraints in everyday usage.

Proper Driver and Front PassengerSeating Adjustment
WARNING: National Highway TrafficSafety Administration (NHTSA)recommends a minimum distance of atleast 10 in (25 cm) between an occupant'schest and the driver airbag module.
To properly position yourself away from theairbag:
•Move your seat to the rear as far as youcan while still reaching the pedalscomfortably.
•Recline the seat slightly (one or twodegrees) from the upright position.
After all occupants have adjusted their seatsand put on seatbelts, it is very important thatthey continue to sit properly. Properly seatedoccupants sit upright, lean against the seatback, and center themselves on the seatcushion, with their feet comfortably extendedon the floor. Sitting improperly can increasethe chance of injury in a crash event. Forexample, if an occupant slouches, lies down,turns sideways, sits forward, leans forwardor sideways, or puts one or both feet up, thechance of injury during a crash greatlyincreases.
Children and Airbags
WARNING: Airbags can kill or injurea child in a child restraint. Never place arear-facing child restraint in front of anactive airbag. If you must use aforward-facing child restraint in the frontseat, move the seat upon which the childrestraint is installed all the way back.
Children must always be properly restrained.Accident statistics suggest that children aresafer when properly restrained in the rearseating positions than in the front seatingposition. Failure to follow these instructionsmay increase the risk of injury in a crash.

The front passenger sensing system workswith sensors that are part of the frontpassenger seat and seatbelt. The sensorsare designed to detect the presence of aproperly seated occupant and determine ifthe front passenger frontal airbag should beenabled.
•When the front passenger sensingsystem enables the front passengerfrontal airbag (may inflate), the passengerairbag status indicator illuminates the onlamp and remains illuminated.
If a person of adult size is sitting in the frontpassenger seat, but the passenger airbagstatus indicator off lamp is lit, it is possiblethat the person is not sitting properly in theseat. If this happens:
•Switch your vehicle off and ask theperson to place the seatback in anupright position.
•Have the person sit upright in the seat,centered on the seat cushion, with theperson's legs comfortably extended.
•Restart your vehicle and have the personremain in this position for about twominutes. This allows the system to detectthat person and enable the passengerfrontal airbag.
•If the indicator off lamp remains lit evenafter this, you should advise the personto ride in the rear seat.
Note:When the passenger airbag statusindicator off lamp illuminates, the passengerside airbag (seat mounted) may be disabledto avoid the risk of airbag deploymentissues.
After all occupants have adjusted their seatsand put on seatbelts, it is very important thatthey continue to sit properly. If you think that the state of the passengerairbag status indicator lamp is incorrect,check for the following:
•Objects lodged underneath the seat.
•Objects between the seat cushion andthe center console.
•Objects hanging off the seat backrest.
•Objects stowed in the seat backrest mappocket.
•Objects placed on the occupant's lap.
•Cargo interference with the seat
•Other passengers pushing or pulling onthe seat.
•Rear passenger feet and knees restingor pushing on the seat.
The conditions listed above may cause theweight of a properly seated occupant to beincorrectly interpreted by the front passengersensing system. The person in the frontpassenger seat may appear heavier or lighterdue to the conditions described in theprevious list.

Make sure the front passengersensing system is operatingproperly. See Crash Sensors andAirbag Indicator (page 60).
If the airbag readiness light is lit, do thefollowing:
The driver and adult passengers shouldcheck for objects lodged underneath thefront passenger seat or cargo interfering withthe seat.
If objects are lodged or cargo is interferingwith the seat, please take the following stepsto remove the obstruction:
•Pull your vehicle over.
•Switch your vehicle off.
•Driver or adult passengers should checkfor any objects lodged underneath thefront passenger seat or cargo interferingwith the seat.
•Remove the obstruction(s) (if found).
•Restart your vehicle.
•Wait at least two minutes and verify thatthe airbag readiness light in theinstrument cluster is no longerilluminated.
•If the airbag readiness light in theinstrument cluster remains illuminated,this may or may not be a problem due tothe front passenger sensing system.
Do not attempt to repair or service thesystem. Take your vehicle immediately to anauthorized dealer.
If it is necessary to modify an advanced frontairbag system to accommodate a personwith disabilities, contact your CustomerRelationship Center.
SIDE AIRBAGS
WARNING: Do not place objects ormount equipment on or near the airbagcover, on the side of the seatbacks (of thefront seats), or in front seat areas that maycome into contact with a deploying airbag.Failure to follow these instructions mayincrease the risk of personal injury in theevent of a crash.
WARNING: Do not use accessoryseat covers. The use of accessory seatcovers may prevent the deployment of theside airbags and increase the risk of injuryin an accident.
WARNING: Do not lean your headon the door. The side airbag could injureyou as it deploys from the side of theseatback.

•A label or embossed side panelindicating that side airbags are found onyour vehicle.
•Side airbags inside the seatback of thedriver and front passenger seats.
•Front passenger sensing system.
·Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with readiness indicator.See Crash Sensors and AirbagIndicator (page 60).
Note:The passenger sensing system willdeactivate the passenger seat-mounted sideairbag if it detects an empty passenger seat.
The design and development of the sideairbag system included recommendedtesting procedures that were developed bya group of automotive safety experts knownas the Side Airbag Technical Working Group.These recommended testing procedureshelp reduce the risk of injuries related to thedeployment of side airbags.
SAFETY CANOPY™
WARNING: Do not place objects ormount equipment on or near the headlinerat the siderail that may come into contactwith a deploying curtain airbag. Failure tofollow these instructions may increase therisk of personal injury in the event of acrash.

The Safety Canopy deploys during significantside crashes or when a certain likelihood ofa rollover event is detected by the rolloversensor. The Safety Canopy is mounted tothe roof side rail sheet metal, behind theheadliner, above each row of seats. In certainsideways crashes or rollover events, theSafety Canopy will be activated, regardlessof which seats are occupied. The SafetyCanopy is designed to inflate between theside window area and occupants to furtherenhance protection provided in side impactcrashes and rollover events.
The system consists of the following:
•Safety Canopy curtain airbags above thetrim panels over the front and rear sidewindows identified by a label or wordingon the headliner or roof-pillar trim.
•A flexible headliner which opens abovethe side doors to allow air curtaindeployment
· Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with a readiness indicator.See Crash Sensors and AirbagIndicator (page 60).
Properly restrain children 12 years old andunder in the rear seats. The Safety Canopywill not interfere with children restrainedusing a properly installed child or boosterseat because it is designed to inflatedownward from the headliner above thedoors along the side window opening.
